Fic Talk > I Challenge You....
For the August challenge (thinking ahead) Part 2 for the readers!
mare:
Okay here is the time all you readers have your say in what happens in August. Obviously that means writers who also read, including people on this list.
This is going to be kind of a long explanation so hang on with me for a few minutes.
You may challenge one, a few, or all of these writers to write a story that is out of their comfort zone.
This is how it works: Let's say there is a person named oodie shmoodie and she only writes romances about Nick and this mysterious girl called oodie shmoodie. You can say something like this...
A level One challenge: I challenge oodie shmoodie to write a romance revolving around AJ and someone OTHER then oodie shmoodie.
A level Two challenge: I challenge oodie shmoodie to write drama with a little romance, but the romance has to be in the background and not the main plot.
A Level Three challenge: I challenge oodie shmooide to write a sci fi story that has NO romance in it at all. She can't even have a female lead anywhere in the story.
So there are your three different levels of challenge for this one.
A few rules you have to follow as challengers:
1. Once you challenge an author, you cannot challenge them again. Meaning you can come up with as many challenges as you like but they can't all be for the same person.
2. Be realistic and know that the authors are busy. It's one thing to ask to write out of your comfort zone and it's another to write on something you know they really really hate. Keep that in mind.
3. If an author is challenged by more than one person, they can decide which challenge to write. They aren't expected to write ten stories if they are challenged by ten different people.
4. Any author can try any of the stories even if they aren't the ones who were challenged. Obviously if the story is already in your comfort zone you shouldn't bother.
5. Be clear in explaining what you want your author to write. Because if I'm challenged to write a romance but that's all I'm given, the female lead will be dead by the second sentence. That will not be my fault, that will be the challengers fault lol
6. If a writer can get around the technicalities of writing out of their comfort zone and still pull it off, then go for it lol
7. Be aware that if you challenge someone and they come through, your name will be put on a list for another challenge coming soon which you will have to take part in. Whether you are a writer or not! lol (seems fair to me)
8. You can choose a word count but none of these stories should exceed 3,000. Most challenges I find are working best with a smaller word count.
9. You can be specific to a plot or an idea but the author as the right to change it around or not use your total suggestion if they feel it will not fit with their story.
10. I would hope you'd review the story that was written for you. Whether you liked it or not.
NO BANNERS! For any of these stories!
Okay, I'm sure you'll have a ton of questions so feel free to ask away and hopefully i'll be able to help you out.
If not then let the challenging begin! :)

RokofAges75:
Sounds good, Mare! Minus the word count limit, but meh LOL.
mare:
You don't want a limit? Or do you think that's too many words?
RokofAges75:
I would prefer there not be a limit, unless that's part of the challenger's specific guidelines for the story.
