Question about adding italics into text???

okay this is probably a stupid question but please bare with me. i'm still sort of new to this sort of thing...okay, i know how to put in italics into the text of my story but how do i italicize the text in parts so that it doesn't affect the rest of it? (does that make sense? lol)

i know that by placing this code <i> within my writing it will italicize the text, but then when i go back to preview it, it italicizes the text after the code. i only want to italicize one part of my story.

you need to also put a </i> After you're done.

I have a similar problem in that it doesn't italicize when I use the code, so I just use the editing tools at the bottom and highlight the part I want italicized and then click the button. Works like magic and involves less coding. lol
