OK, I've read the first 5 chapters of Love This Pain by My Confession.  So far, so good.  I'm really enjoying it.  It's a Nick story and it starts with him being dumped and alone on his 30th birthday.  AJ sets him up with a blind date and he expects her to be a minger, but it turns out she's gorgeous and not the usual type of girl he attracts.  They have a lovely meal and plenty of conversation before going to his hotel.  They have amazing sex but when he wakes, she's gone and not left her number (she must be mad, lol).

Really well written, good detail in the story and it makes you want to carry on reading.

Aww thank you! The story is a bit different for me for the fact that it's not the typical meet and fall on love.

Finished "Stockholm Sydrome" tonight! Left comments on most chapters but will do a full post here later today!

1) Name of the story you read and the author and what you feel the genre is. Your answer might be different then the authors. "Stockholm Syndrome" by Julilly. The genre is obviously AU because they are not Backstreet Boys in it, but I could also see it listed under Drama and Suspense.

2) Would you have ever read this story if it wasn't a challenge? Eventually I think. I've wanted to read some of Julilly's stuff for a while, so this challenge kind of pushed me to it since I'm not much of a reader.

3) What was your favorite scene? I really liked the scenes where Nick stood up for himself against Brian and AJ. The scene with Nick and Brian in the guesthouse towards the end was really good. I also liked the quickie scene as well.

4) Who was your favorite character and why? Obviously Nick because he's the guy you're rooting for basically from the beginning because of how sucky his life has been and how his "friends" treat him.

5) Overall tell us one reason why you think someone else should/or shouldn't read this story. If they don't like AU stories, they won't like it because it's very AU, but I think people should read it because it's very well written and it's not what you expect from a BSB fan fiction... Nick Carter really isn't the real NIck Carter in it by any means at all.

6) Did it convert you to the genre it is? Would you be willing to read another story just like it? I think so and yes I think I would.

7) Give one piece of concrit that might help the author for future reference. This can be positive too, concrit doesn't always mean negative.
I think how the thoughts jumped from one character to the next, like from Nick to the girl, sometimes got to me, but that was really the only thing.

8) Does it suck? Stick out tongue No really, I'd like the person who reads it to tell me if, even as an AU that is pretty far out of range for typical BSB fic, if they were still able to properly picture the Boys in their new roles.
Yes, I can still see the boys in the roles and I kind of like Nick in the vulnerable role!

9) Would you recommend this story and author to another person? Why or why not yes, because I liked it!

10) Out of 10 stars what would you give this story?
9.5

11) Do you think after you are done reading what's there so far (and you only have to read however many chapters are there when the start of this challenge was given) Do you think you will continue to read the story through to the end to see what happens to the characters? Does it suck? Stick out tongue No really, I'd like the person who reads it to tell me if, even as an AU that is pretty far out of range for typical BSB fic, if they were still able to properly picture the Boys in their new roles. If there is ever a sequel, yes, I definetly would read it, but the story was complete.

------

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I kind of had a feeling that Nick would fall for the girl once the other guys made him their bitch and had him watch over her. I loved the fact that some things were thrown in, such as the girl starting her period and Nick having to improvise on that. I thought the way that the guys used Nick and then ended up stabbing him in the back by not letting him be a part of the company was really well written because for them to exclude him really came out of left field for me and took me by surprise.  I loved how at the end, Nick was the hero and because he didn't have a job with the landscapping company, he wasn't a suspect.

It was really good and didn't suck AT ALL! <3<3<3

I am SO sorry, Karah and everyone else! I came back from my holiday yesterday and I thought there'd be normal internet over there 'cause I read reviews about the campsite a week ago and everyone said the internet connection was really good. It SUCKED. It wouldn't let me post anything or let me send any emails (otherwise I would've sent Tracy an email about my sucky internet), let alone leave any reviews. The website wouldn't show up half of the time, which happened to pretty much any website. The internet sucked the most in the evening which was exactly the only moment I had time to turn on my laptop. I was able to read this thread once in a while and I wanted to tell you all that I couldn't do anything but internet wouldn't cooperate at all. It was so frustrating! :(

Again, I'm sorry that I left you all waiting, I wanted to complain at the campsite's head office but figured that there was nothing they could do about it.

I'm having a normal internet connection again so I will read & review asap!

I'm up to Chapter 10 of Love This Pain and am still loving it!  Nick has found out that the girl AJ set him up with is actually an escort.  So you can imagine how pissed off Nick was and poor AJ got a black eye, lol.

I love that it's not the typical romance story and Natalie isn't falling all over every word Nick says.  She's a good strong character with plenty to say for herself, unlike the date Nick just took out in chapter 9 who only wanted freebies from him.

I would just like to say once again that I am so proud of all of you for taking part in this challenge. It's says a lot about your characters to be willing to step outside of your comfort zones and try something new. Too bad more of you didn't participate, maybe next time.

Of course I am saying this before I call out those of you that haven't lived up to your goals this week so for now soak it in. LOL

I'm still on chapter 20 of It Stays With You but I'm looking forward to hopefully finishing it tomorrow. This is the first time I have read something by Mare (except one shot challenge responses) and I'm really glad I took the challenge.

Thus far i find her writing easy to follow...I'm only confused when it seems like that's what she wants. This story is SO far out of my normal reading and I'm highly surprised that I've been enjoying it. I can picture everything that's going on...I feel the emotions of the characters...I find the characters very realistic...an d I think everything flows very well.

I shall be back with a full report tomorrow or Tuesday, once I finish reading.

I remember it being hard to tell what was Brian's dreams/hallucinations and what was reality in It Stays sometimes, but I think, like you said, that was intentional on Mare's part.  She sure likes to keep us guessing! :)

Aww thanks! When I wrote this I wanted the readers to feel as confused and unresolved as Brian if that makes any sense? I like to do that in my stories, have a few chapters where you leave going WTF is going on? lmao

Yeah, it was like that, but in a way that still made enough sense to enjoy.  I loved it!

Happy August everyone! Just doing my weekly check in to let everyone know how we are doing.

So far these people have completely rocked the challenge and have finished their assigned stories:

Julie
Julilly - still needs to fill out her survey
Karah
Krystle (Sapphire)
Lore
Steph (Carter - Orange)
Tracy

I will be making a final survey for the authors to fill out towards the end of the month saying how they felt overall about taking part in the challenge. Thanks to all of you!

Some of you haven't quite stepped up and did not reach your goal of the week.

Imke - has yet to start (I know you were on vacation)
Summer03 - only reviewed the first chapter
Saka Steph - Only reviewed up to chapter 2
Darby - only reviewed up to chapter 3
Carterkid - only reviewed up to chapter 6

4 out of 5 of you have had your stories fully reviewed by your assigned readers already. You made a commitment, please live up to it and get moving!

Everyone else, kudos to you! Because you have acheived your goal of the week you have no homewrok this week! Just continue to read and review :)

The people above I have broken up what should be read by next Monday based on how many chapters your stories have.

By next Monday 8/8

Imke - chapter 6
Summer03 - chapter 15
Saka Steph - chapter 20
Darby - chapter 10
Carterkid - chapter 10

Happy Reading!

Also, don't forget to post in this thread and let us know how you are enjoying your stories.

One other thing, please take the time to respond to people's reviews. I know some of you don't think it's important but it really comes off as douchey to not say anything especially when people are taking the time to give you critical feedback on the story YOU wanted them to read in the first place. I know it's a giant turn off for me to the point where i'll actually stop reading people's stuff if they don't show common courtesy to the people who take the time to review them.

Ok, so far I've read till chapter 4 of Love This Pain and I like the story a lot! It's well-detailed, flows well and it makes me want to read more. I'm really curious about Natalie and her secrets. I think Natalie does like Nick but because of whatever she is or does, can't continue seeing him. Don't have any constructive criticism. All I will say now is that I will definitely continue to read more. :)

Read till chapter 10 and I'm totally into the story. Avery still has a hard time letting Nick in because she thinks her fiance who died seven years ago was the love of her life. They're now on a date at Johnny Rockets (never heard of that before but I'm having an idea about what kind of restaurant it is lol) which is totally different from the fancy places they've been before. Also, on this date Avery is herself and even though Nick wants to give her $100,000 for it, it's different than when she's being paid to be Natalie. I'm curious to how the date will go and if Nick will be able to break through her walls soon.

It's really easy to read and I like Avery. I also like how they don't get into a relationship after 4 chapters. They're actually getting to know eachother instead.

Even though I've done my homework for next Monday, I'm not gonna stop reading. I want to know more. ;D

Oh and I want to say that I like the bits of Kelly Clarkson lyrics at the beginning of some chapters. It reminds me of the time when I was about 14 years old (which wasn't that long ago for me lol). I listened to that cd tons of times so I immediately recognized the lyrics. In fact, I'm going to look up her songs. :)
