Title: What are some good stories to read?
Post by: DaniGiggles on February 16, 2008, 11:05:32 PM
So, as you all know, I'm relatively new to AC, and when I first made an account I just went through and added a bunch of stories to my favorites that seemed interesting, but I haven't really had time to go through them, except for a select few.

So I was just wondering, since most of you are veterans, what are some really good stories that I should read?

You can even recommend your own! I just want to catch up on the favorites out there that everyone loves.

lol I know the feeling. I never can catch up with all the stuff I want to read. But a great place to start would be the featured stories of the month thread on this board. There are a dozen or so stories there and most all of them excellent. There is a good mixture of genres there as well. My personal favorites would be

"Children Like Me" by Mersey, that's a great BSB Supernatural crossover.

and then this months feature "Learning To Trust" by sweet18_2003 is a great drama and

just_marina's "Yesterday's Blue Skies" is an awesome si-fi.

If you're a romance lover go with Rose's "Just Another Day".

Or anything by Starbeamz2 my personal fave of hers is "Once Upon A Time" and her new one "A Queens Decent" is going to be fabulous!

Those are just some of my faves. But pretty much anything by Mare or Rokofages will be  more wonderful than words as well!

hope that's enough to get you started looking.

lol I guess it depends on what type of genres you like.....

I love ya for that, but seeing that still makes me kinda LOL since I'm such a hard core AU/Action/sci-fi person, it's still sometimes odd to see my name associated to romance haha.

whatever... you're an action/si-fi/closet romance writer and you know it.  :P

:p romance is growing on me, I admit it lol. "Rehab" definitely is proof of that.

Which, if I had to recommend any of my romances, it'd be "Rehab" (since Kelly already said JAD), and if you like Sci-fi, Yesterday's Blue Skies by Marina...or an old story of mine that's still going, Divisions of Reality. If you love and adore fluff, go for "If We Were a Movie" by Kelly. It's adorable.

Broken and By My Side by Julie/RokofAges75 are both wonderfully written.  I adore them.  Broken deals with Nick getting cancer and dealing with that.  By My Side is the sequel, which is more on the romance side of things, but is very character driven.  They're incredible.

Under My Skin and A Little Taste of Sin are a couple of other good ones, written by MellzBellz.  Really awesome angsty dramatic romance.  You'll love them.

Oooh yes those awesome choices, I love all 4 of those stories.

Another great one by Sweet18_2003 is "Not So Bad". I definitely recommend you go check that one out.

And of course, a little shameless plugging for my own benefit, you could also check out my Brian drama, "If Tomorrow Never Comes". I'd say it's pretty decent. ;D

Ooh, and yeah, FOR SURE check out Kelly's (Honey) "If We Were A Movie". It's amazing fluff and so darn adorable and entertaining that you will absolutely fall in love with it and I don't think I could ever stop saying good things about it! So check it out!

aww. you guys... you almost make me want to update... haha. I need to do that. only 7 chapters left till its done! Yay!  Thanks ladies! Good to know people like that one. it's one of my faves ever! (lol is it not cool for you to be mostly in love with your own stories?)

If it is, then I'm the most uncool person ever. lol
Title: Re: What are some good stories to read?

Well I'm in love with "Rehab". Cause to me there's a writing growth from JAD to that... so yeah its cool to be in love with your own story lol. If you hated it, it'd be hard to write it.
Title: Re: What are some good stories to read?

I agree with Rose.

It's cool to be uncool for being so in love with your own stories.
Title: Re: What are some good stories to read?

lol. well at least I'm not the only one then, because I am totally in love with both "If We Were A Movie" and "Not Your Average Cinderella Story."

lol I stole it on purpose silly because it was such a good line and all. (Didn't you know I'm also in the I heart Tonja fan club?) LMAO  Tonja sucks!
Title: Re: What are some good stories to read?
Post by: MonkeyAbu on February 17, 2008, 02:48:15 AM
LMAO! I didn't even know who Tonja was before I came to this board months and months ago and I STILL don't know who she is, but what I do know is that I hate her along with the rest of ya. LoL.
Title: Re: What are some good stories to read?

lol. Um she is the girl who takes awesome fan fics from awesome really well known people and then posts them as her own stories and doesn't even bother to change them at all. she's basically the devil. Or she would be if she were a little smarter.
Title: Re: What are some good stories to read?

So does the fact that you me and Dee basically taking over this topic from Dani make us Tonja Wannabes?

Great minds think alike Kelly.

Um, yeah, another story to read...Mare's 13th Step. Give her enough reviews and she might actually update again! ;D
Title: Re: What are some good stories to read?
Post by: honey on February 17, 2008, 02:58:49 AM
lol I just realized how much I suck. I call myself a Mare fan yet the only one I've ever read of hers is "It Stays With You"...   which is another excellent story... you could read that one.  ;D

No, because it's common knowledge that I hijack threads.

Like how Mare likes groundhogs. lol

and I write fluff, and julilly is Canadian, and Lenni yells at characters, and Mel licks Nick...

there's a whole thread about what is common knowledge around here. lol

What in the world...? lol! You all are flippin crazy and I adore it. I got on here to see if anyone replied and I was shocked to see the response, and then I started reading it and well... freaking hijackers indeed! But entertaining nonetheless  ;)

Thanks for the tips in between your rambling. I will definitely check 'em out!

And this groundhog thing is EVERYWHERE. I was reading one of Sakabelle's responses to a challenge and I didn't know the rules for it, so obviously I didn't know the groundhog thing, but when I was reading the story, out of everything I noticed the groundhog comment the most and went wtf mate? Hilarious and genius.

aww we're sorry Dani! We simply can't help ourselves... but we did give you quite a few reading assignments. All of which are excellent and Julies two alone will take you a year to read. (worth every page though!  ;) I heart you too Julie)   and in all fairness, I'm pretty sure you were warned about the strangeness around here in the welcome thread. Maybe you didn't believe us, but we were completely serious. We're insane around here.

oh, and go look at the felix awards thread... awesome story after awesome story nominated for awards... you can definitely find a good read from that list...

oh and Dani, you can't go wrong if you go to the  featured story thread and read any of those.

These you can find on the AC site, but if you want an even bigger list let me know because most of the stories I love aren't on the AC site.

I am trying to mention fics that haven't been mentioned yet.

Action/adventure/suspense
Seven Days by Refuse
Fear Factor by Mersey
(Pretty much anything by Mersey)
You should check out her short stories. She writes the best short stories ever!
Children like Me By Honey

Drama wise
Inner Hell by Jenna
Swollen Issues by Jenna and Swenglish (Even though I highly recommend the second story not so much the first or third. It's worth the read)
Happenstance by Bianca (The only romance I was ever able to read in entirety lol)

That's about all I can think of right now. :)

I'll add on later, it's just hit me that it's not even 9 am on a Sunday morning and i'm wide awake so I must remedy that immediately! lol

I'd recommend something, but I think everyone pretty much recommended everything lol. I LOVE Broken and By My Side by Julie. It's a REALLY long read, but it hooks you from every second. If We Were a Movie is really cute! And if you like UMS you may like the Nothing's Impossible Series by Teri. It's a lil edgier than UMS, but a good read with plenty of relationship drama.

Children like Me By Honey

Actually I'm not that clever. Mersey rocks my world, and she's the one who wrote "Children Like Me" Mare probably mixed it up because I am constantly gushing about that story. I wish I were as cool as Mers!
