... There are actually more AJ stories on AC than Nick?
You know where you list the characters in your story? I was bored, so I clicked on Nick's name on one of them to pull up a list of all the stories that have Nick listed as a main character; there are 39 pages of stories. Then I did the same for the rest of the boys and the group; as to be expected, they all had fewer pages... except for AJ, who has 40! Go AJ, and go AJ writers!
Feel free to use this thread to post other random fanfic/AC-related observations!
-
I have been saying that forever, but no one listens to me! lol
I always say I see more AJ stories on AC than Nick ones. It also seems like there are more AJ fans on this board than NIck ones as well.
-
LOL I know there are a lot of AJ stories/fans here, but I'd never actually compared the numbers. The fandom is so Nick-dominated usually, I thought that was interesting.
-
It is, those two have always been close when it comes to fans. All of my BSB friends when I first became a fan were AJ fanatics lol
-
Is it really? I knew the numbers had to be close, there's a lot of AJ fans here... but I didn't think AJ beat him out LOL.
-
LOL Wow, that's funny. I'm actually really surprised! I thought for sure that Nick would have had more stories than AJ.
-
That is interesting, I thought there would be more Nick stories too, but knew that AJ couldn't be far behind!
-
Now if only we can do something about that list of top ten stories on AC.
-
Write more AJ stories? LOL
-

Eh, they earned their spots LOL. Don't you have a story in the top tens?
-

I meant the top ten popular and getting more non-Nick leads but I guess since I didn't say that you wouldn't know. HEH. I forgot there are lots of top ten lists lol.
-
I honestly didn't even think anyone paid attention to those top ten lists LOL
-
I don't think so either, I was just making conversation ;)
-
Really? More AJ than Nick stories? :o
Heh, as an AJ-fan I'm "yay-ing" in here. ;D
-
I'm gonna throw out into the universe that I included AJ on the characters list for one of the "saving the Day for Blondes" stories, and that was technically a Nick story, but AJ was heavily featured...
lol I actually am not shocked AJ's got more stories on here than Nick. This is a heavily AJ dominated community.
-
I could tell that AJ was popular. My AJ story has done just as well as my Nick stories whereas my Kevin one did...so-so. Of course, I also found out in the process that it's REALLY fun to write AJ. LoL
-
Yeah AJ's a blast to write...you can be so blunt. LOL
-
AJ is easy to write for me as well. lol
-
I don't mind writing AJ either because you can make him do anything and it's just so him! lol
BTW Jen, I loved your Kevin story just as much as your others. Kev was always my favourite :)
-
I like writing AJ too; he makes a good supporting character, though I have written stories with him in the lead role, too. He and Nick are fun because you can mold them in so many different ways.
-
They are both the Play-Dough of Backstreet! lol
-
LOL! Good metaphor.
-
Spanks! lol
-
I have found that I can mold Nick the easiest. My A.J. story probably had about as much "fame" as my Kevin story.
-
My AJ stories never do as well as my Nick stories either. But who knows, it could just be the story LOL.
-
I don't think i've written an AJ story. lol Maybe I wrote a short one once.
-
I don't think I've ever tried writing a Nick story before! Mine are almost always about AJ, and sometimes Brian. Not that my stories count though, since I haven't written in forever and never post LOL
-
Yeah AJ and Nick are easiest because you can write them without using real-life situations, like Brian's always got to include Leighanne and Baylee or it feels unrealistic now... But I find it fun trying to make Brian interact with Leighanne and Bay in stories, too. It just makes the work cut out for ya if you try to include them into the story with the main character. Therefore, I think that's part of why Nick and AJ work so well because their lives aren't as "in stone" as the other guys are. Although AJ with Rochelle is becoming more and more the norm in the fics I've noticed - even I've been including her lately, since seeing them post together on Twitter...
-
I absolutely agree with that! That's why, even though Brian is my favorite, I've written more about Nick the last few years.
I just wrote my first part with Rochelle the other day. She and AJ make such a cute couple, I actually enjoyed writing about her.
-
Personally, fanfic is completely fiction to me, so it doesn't matter to me whether the wives and kids are in it or not. It's fiction. Doesn't mean I don't like the wives or kids, just means that other things can happen. That's why I like fiction, lol. :)
-
I get too anal about staying as close to reality as I can in a fanfic, unless it's an AU. Like, obviously my storyline is fiction, but I want all the other details to be realistic so the story as a whole seems realistic, if that makes sense. I don't have a problem writing out the girlfriends, but it's harder to do that with wives and children. I don't like to kill them off, nor do I like to deny their existence (if I'm going to do that, I just make it an AU), so it's all about finding situational ways to explain their absence if I don't want them there LOL. But I don't see myself ever writing another Brian romance, for example, unless it's AU.
-
Agreed. I haven't actually tried writing WITH Rochelle yet. She seems very sweet and they're a cute couple, but I went with AJ's history and had him divorced from her in my most recent story. Eventually I want to try writing with her in a future group story.
I always feel weird writing the wives. I don't know why. So usually they're in there but it's a smaller role, or just in mentions. But with Nick and AJ, their characters translate really well into fanfiction and if you don't wanna do AU, those two are the easiest two to work with in terms of staying true to life.

Exactly, like with Leighanne, I have her elsewhere, or doing a Wylee party. Or having the Boys in places the wives wouldn't be. Like touring, the wives/girlfriends are there sometimes but not all the time, so it's totally plausible to have them at home cause you want them to be. It's all about creatively finding ways around it LOL.
-
^^ Exactly.
As awful as this sounds, they make great "filler" characters. lmao When you have something that needs to be said but you dunno who the hell to have say it.. suddenly one of the wives calls or shows up for a random "guest appearance" on the tour.. then POOF they're gone again and life rolls on... haha
-
I am the same way and agree. I feel like to keep things realistic they need to be with the real deal, that's also why i'm choosing to write old school because I don't really enjoy writing about the older versions of them. lol There's only so much laundry Leighanne can go do, you know?

I love old school stories though, there's not enough of those anymore. You're filling my void lol.
-
LOL *kicks Kevin again*

At least you don't kill him lmao. Or ya know, put him in a coma.
-
Leaving him hanging (for a VERY long time now) in a coma while some poor blonde kid is stuck in the middle of Amish country? Nope, never done that before lol
-

Now, who would do that?
LMFAO FAIL!
-
LMAO Mare. And good job, Julie.
Yeah, I really like the old school stories too. I guess the Brian stories that don't have Leighanne are usually old school stories or they just don't talk about Brian's age, so you just assume that it's old school.
-

Yeah that'd be a pretty mean thing to do. Especially when the other three have no idea that the blonde kid is even alive, they think he's probably dead in a ditch somewhere. Poor guys, worrying about him for SO long without a clue...
-
^ I know! And it's summer in Amish country. No air conditioning and those really hot clothes and all the farm animals! It must STINK! lol
-
Psh! Brian was in surgery for like a year in Secrets, so Kevin being in a coma while the guys think Nick is dead for two months isn't THAT bad... (okay, I suck, sorry!!) :-[
-

Nick's naked in the part I have started. ;D
-
No wonder, The guy is probably melting! LOL And yay for using the word "started" that's always a good thing. Does guilt ever help anyone to write? I guess that's another good debate topic.
-

Awww you don't suck...I mean if you updated this, Nick would stuck forever dealing with cancer...
Nick's naked?
19 year old naked Nick. That feels wrong now LMFAO. Damn the fact it's not 1999 anymore!
-

Heh... I probably shouldn't mention that I started it before I started Curtain Call.
Honestly, guilt does help me write; that's the only reason I updated Secrets a couple weeks ago, cause Sarah talked me into it. But I knew exactly what I needed to write on that one; I just hadn't felt like doing it. Guilty Roads I'm more stuck-ish on. Not totally stuck... just stuck-ish and not very motivated to get myself unstuck because I have so much other stuff to write.

LOL at least he's legal?
Truth be told, even though I love how Mare writes old-school Nick, I like writing adult Nick a lot better. I think it's cause I was not a fan of Nick back when he was a teenager, and I heart Nick now.
-

Good point. Legal is good! LOL. I like both adult and young Nick, but I haven't really tried to actually write young Nick since I was a teenybopper myself. I might need to try that at some point.

He's still older than Taylor Lautner. ;) LOL
-
Oooo so glad you're writing Guilty Roads :) I was watching the last part of this Amish programme on TV the other night and thought of your story :)
As for using real wives/girlfriends, I just don't feel right writing them. I don't know why, maybe it's because I think they deserve their privacy or something, I don't know! (I'm weird). But I have no problem with reading stories others have written.
-
*blink*
There's legit a story with Nick stuck in Amish country while Kevin's in a coma?
lmao... *stares around*
This is like that game where you sum up a movie in like one line. Like ever think about the one-liner summary of some really great movies/books? Check it:
Titanic: "Two people fall in love on a big ship that sinks in Atlantic ocean after hitting an iceberg."
Stand By Me: "Four delinquent preteen boys bond while searching for a dead body in the woods."
Good Will Hunting: "Math genius from the streets is psychoanalyzed by an old guy and also discovers true love."
Breakfast at Tiffanys: "High end hooker guy meets a bizarre woman who eats bagels at famed jewelry store."
Seriously I could do that forever.
Sorry, the amish/coma summary on what is probably a great story made me think of that. LOL
*dances out of the thread*
Oh and guilt doesn't always work, but random reviews or seeing people talk about how they like a fic will help motivate me. I usually stop writing a story because I stop feelin' it and if a person mentions it, I'm apt to go back and reread a couple chapters and the next thing ya know.. BOOM I'm on it again.
*dances away for realz now*

Honestly, I prefer older Nick to younger Nick in real life but it's much easier to write younger Nick because of the other guys and their dynamics at the time. LOL
-
You should do an old school Fic Rose! Everyone should! LOL maybe that should be the next challenge. We pick a random year and go for it!
-
^^^ LOVES IT!! ;D
-
Picking a random year sounds good!
-
^ That does sound like a good challenge! (I always say that and then never participate, but I do love the idea!)
-
I like that idea, though I need to finish up the August challenge :'(
-
My votes for 2000! Is that old school enough? My three favs were lookin GOOD back then lol. Howie looked like a girl and Kev had the snoop dogg thing going on, but I can ignore that fact :)
-
Yeah! Like late 1999 going into 2000..While they were taping Black & Blue and the pressure for greatness was on! ;D
-
I am going to start a new thread in the challenge section and put up a poll about the years.
-
whoop whoop! I'm so pumped for this.
-
I think I am having a hard time writing the stories now because I am trying to stay too realistic. I think I need to just write as them as characters to get moving again.
I usually don't have the gf's/wives in my stories... latest example, in my new unamed, unposted story, I kill Leighanne before it starts... Kevin and Kristin are only mentioned and well Howie and his wife, well his wife I might make her up and not use his real wife ...
oooh old school. that would be a good challenge.
-
If I write this challenge, I won't even have them in there at all. LOL You don't have to include them just if you do it needs to be them and not made up people.
