1) Tell us one thing about your story that no one else knows?

2) How long did it take you to write this entire story?

3) Give us a summary different from the one you have posted on AC, with a few more spoilers to make people tune in.

4) If you could cast this story as a movie who would play the main roles and why?

5) Have you ever thought of giving up on the story and if you did what made you continue to work on it?

6) What was your writing process? (Outline, make it up as you go along, the characters wrote it, I am Tonja and plagerized lol)

7) Who was your favorite character in this story and why?

8 ) You had to know this was coming, who was your least favorite?

9) Are all the boys in this one? If not why did you choose to exclude them?

10) If we like this story...then we'd love what story? (Could be by you or someone else) and obviously tell us why lol

haha. I must sound like I say that a lot cause I've really enjoyed more than half of the featured fics this year. But honestly I'm pretty picky about what I read, Mare's just been good at picking awesome fics.

Congrats again Rose, you deserve it! Everyone read Just Another Day! I mean it! It's super cute and Nick is just funny. Oh, and so is AJ. AJ was fantastic in this as well. Well they were all fantastic in this, but Nick and AJ cracked me up!

1) Tell us one thing about your story that no one else knows?
Um....that no one else knows? Probably the fact that it was supposed to originally be in solely Cally's point of view, but I'd been itching to try my hand at being Nick, so I threw him in.

2) How long did it take you to write this entire story?
Yeesh *goes to look* only seven months, quickest one I ever wrote, it flowed scarily well actually.

3) Give us a summary different from the one you have posted on AC, with a few more spoilers to make people tune in.

Oh lord... um....

Meet Calypso Lynn Rayne, odd name but very normal girl, who never could manage to stand out in any crowd, living a life she herself is bored with. She wants change, yet never tries to do so. Always feeling invisible to those around her. Meet Nickolas Gene Carter, lead singer of rock group Flames of Ice, known by everyone. He lives a life of fame and fortune yet feels likes all of it is nothing, that no one can really see him.

Watch as two people from opposite worlds collide in ways no one could have ever predicted.

4) If you could cast this story as a movie who would play the main roles and why?

Well for Cally I always had Melissa Joan Hart in mind, she has that normal look I always pictured, all it'd take is a bit of a weight gain and glasses really. Or someone along that line. I'd want her to look normal, but still pretty in her unique way. I don't want omg stunning looks, it goes against the nature of the story itself.

For Nick? Gah, possibly Shane West. He could pull off the whole rockstar thing pretty well.

5) Have you ever thought of giving up on the story and if you did what made you continue to work on it?

Yes! Lord I hit I think chapter 15 and just got frustrated and wanted to throw it out the window lol. I took a small break, worked on say 00Carter, and then looked at it again, reread it, which helped renew my love for writing that one.

6) What was your writing process? (Outline, make it up as you go along, the characters wrote it, I am Tonja and plagerized lol)

I'm Tinja! Tonja's twin! lol.

I don't do major outlining (except 00Carter but hello major collab so yeah...anywho). I had my character bios, and my major ideas for the story with an idea of where and when, but the rest is in my head. I just had a mental image for how it'd all go.

7) Who was your favorite character in this story and why?

Honestly it's Nick. He's so random and just quirky, and I just adored getting in his head. Which is funny cause I thought Cally would be easier but it was Nick who was easier to write.

8 ) You had to know this was coming, who was your least favorite?
Sadly Brian, I love the boy, really. He's just so cute. But he's hard to write as a character and my struggle to write the most.

9) Are all the boys in this one? If not why did you choose to exclude them?
They make appearances, but the ones in it the most were AJ, Brian, and Nick. But I tried to at least have them in it a tiny bit.

10) If we like this story...then we'd love what story? (Could be by you or someone else) and obviously tell us why lol

Um, either the sequel, Glitz and Glamour, cause it's the sequel, but a separate story in its own right. Or....If We Were a Movie by Kelly. Just Another Day is a little fluffy and Kelly's is fluffy but it's good fluff, fun fluff with comical and a cute story to tell.

Hey Rose,

Here are a few questions for you

Where did you come up with the name Calypso for your character and how much, if any, of yourself did you put into her?

What made you decide to make Nick her love interest?

I have a question too!  ;D How come after choosing to make the guys still be famous musicians, you decided to make them not the Backstreet Boys? I think you told me that once, but I can't remember.

I love unique names, and since I wanted her to be average to the point of unnoticed, I wanted something to contrast that. So I picked Calypso cause I could shorten it to a normal sounding nickname. She has some of me, like a few of the same interests, and naturally all writers put a little of themselves in the characters. But it's not a lot.

I had her be with Nick cause honestly Nick and AJ have the worst romance history, and its always the same kind of girl. Nick is my fave though so I picked him, I honestly feel Nick needs a normal girl in real life, I think he'd be happier.

Well there's two reasons, because it originally started as original fiction, so they were a rock group. And the other reason is I wanted to make them something Cally wouldn't recognize instantly. I feel any girl of the 90's even if they hated boybands, would recognize say Nick Lachey or JC Chasez, etc. I love Linkin Park, but if I ran into say Chester Bennington, I'd never have realized it was him till later. So I made them a different group to keep the integrity and believability of the story intact.

At least I'm not late in reading this story!
I´ve started right after my previous post and am almost done..
What can I say, I read fast.. good, remember details and such, just fast!

I gotta say I love this story. I´m not really into love stories all that much, but this one is good! I´ll give you a better, longer, more detailed review later on!

Got a question first though. (I also asked in the review-part on the AC-site, but still..)

It's about chapter 17:
I'm kinda confused though.. About this:

“But you SO like him! That’s the guy who you talked about before Sebby came to town right?”

“Yeah it was him-”

<

Izzy met him right? In the living room when the whole fight with Devi was going on.. So why does she ask this question??

Is it sarcasm? Or is it because Cally never told her that the guy she talked to on the phone actually is Nick? Or.. am I just crazy and imagining things?!
Title: Re: Featured Story of the month for January 2008 - Just Another Day by Rose
Post by: Rose on January 10, 2008, 01:43:06 AM
Well she mentioned a guy she met earlier in the story when she was talking to Isabel, but never actually named him. That she liked him and all that. She never said it was actually Nick, Iz just was making sure it was the same guy :)

I was planning on leaving a huge (well, maybe not huge, just longer) review, but I just got a call that I have to go to work soon.. I will give you one later though!

Fave chapter? http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8180&chapter=18 Chapter 17, and it's cause of the stargazing scene, I had HWSS on repeat playing and I feel that chapter totally captures the mood of that song.

Fave line? Well, it's this little blurb right here, cause I totallwy feel like I showed off a randomness that could only be Nick here, in chapter 13.

She smelled of peaches and mangos. I’ve never had a mango, but you know, that shampoo-y mango smell. Yum. I wonder why the fruity smell in stuff never smells like real fruit smells? It’s like that in bath stuff, candy, liquor… Focus Nick!

Alrightie, here it goes!

I love, love, love, love this story!! (And it's sequel too! By the way, I need an update ;D )
Why?
Let me explain..

First, I like the fact that Cally rambles a LOT! It really shows her 'bubbly' personality and makes her so spontaneous, even though she's quite shy around people she just met. To us, she seems to be herself and I like her. I really do. She has her flaws, flaws I can relate to, flaws that make sense, but don't make her a bad person.

I like the fact that even though she is shy, she knows what she wants. That she doesn't always does those things, well, we can blame her parents for that! I mean, she's still young and her parents and friends can influence her pretty much, but that partly is because of her being that young. She knows what she wants (art school for example), but is scared to take that step, because of the expectations of everyone around her. It's sad, but completely understandable . (Which doesn't mean I was at times really frustrated with her because of it. Not like I was mad at her, I just wished she'd choose the path she wanted to go.)

And for Nick, well.. he's Nick. You really portray him like I think he can be at times. When he was so depressed in the beginning of the story, you kinda got me scared. Not because of how he felt, but because of how realistically you made it seem. It almost made me feel like I was reading a blog written by the 'real' Nick Carter. So you obviously did a good job on that. Not only that, he seemed to be suffering from a real depression, with thoughts of suicide.

What I also liked a lot, was the fact that things don't suddenly go fantastic overnight. Not with Nick's moodswings and feelings, and not with Cally's insecurities and fears that hold her back. In fact, especially Cally stays scared out of her mind of certain things for the most of the story, which only seems natural. They really have to 'fight for their right' (sorry, couldn't resist ;D) to be together and live their lives the way they want to.

You're brilliant for the whole "making the guys a rockband instead of a boyband". It works out perfectly fine and I love the little BSB-remarks or things that are BSB and you made them FOI.  ;D Very creative!

Alright, so that makes my review for the most part.
Now for some random thoughts:

- Tracy is a bitch
- I love the way Cally answers her phone!
- I did think it was kinda strange that Brian gave Calypso his number just like that though. Especially because there was no damage to her bike or herself.. and the fact they have quite the age difference. I can see why you did it that way though, it just seemed a bit odd.
- Sebastian has no right to call himself a good friend. Even though he was trying to protect her, telling her parents everything was just.. ugh.. awful would be an understatement . It was just.. 'hella frustrating' to read him act like that.
- The incident at the Grove was sweet, until the paparazzi showed up ofcourse. But before that, the whole thing just made me smile.

That's about it.. lol.. Long enough?  ;)

Now for some questions..(If any of these were already asked, I'm sorry, and just ignore those questions lol)

How did you come up with the title for this story? I mean, did you already have the title and sorta built a story around it? Or did it at first have another title? Or maybe (a lot of 'or's lol) did you have the storyline and couldn't come up with a title then?

Why did you decide to keep the other guys (mostly Howie, Kevin and AJ) out of the story for the most part? Special reason or didn't they belong/fit in JAD?

Ugh.. and another question popped in my head yesterday while I was at work.. but I can't think of it right now..

Owh, and by the way.. I love the Nickname Cally gave Nick! And I love his thoughts about it lol..
Title: Re: Featured Story of the month for January 2008 - Just Another Day by Rose

Now for my fave chapter and why:

It's chapter... drumroll please..

Well, actually, it's the second part of chapter 6 (Damn) and then chapter 7 (Us? Babysitting?).

Why?
I mean, we must all agree that it is funny as hell that the two of them get stuck. I could see it happen and it really made me laugh out loud (very loud, I might add). It's just so Nickish AND Cally-ish to end up in that situation.

But what I liked about it, was the fact that it terrificly shows how people can misinterpret signals. When Nick sees her standing in front of the Littrell's door, he's thinking about how good she looks in her own way and how he lost his tongue because he's in awe. Cally on the other hand is absolutely convinced that Nick is annoyed by her standing there and that she's everything he considers ugly.

It's a perfect illustration of misinterpretat ing the situation. I love it! I mean, who doesn't think for the other in some situation? Everyone does, don't we? And this shows how wrong we might be. I love it!

Now I also have a fav line, I just can't seem to find it right now.. When I have, I'll post it! >
Got it! It's more than one line though.. It's the moment Nick realises Brian was right. I especially love the part I painted black. Chapter 18: Blind but now I see. >

Thinking back I guess this girl stood out to me from the get go. She was everything I know the world wasn’t supposed to be. I was dating the kind of girl who the world expected me to date. Legs that go on forever, sex when she walks, cocky, and knows exactly who’s she’s dating and what she knows she “should” get from me because of it.

“And Cally ran because fame scared her along with expensive gifts?”

I blinked, surprised. Fuck. He had a point. Damn that Brian. Gets me every damn time. “Yeah...guess so...”

“Nick, not telling you how to live your life, but here is a free piece of advice. Keep this friend, she’s rare. I’ll see you at the studio.”

Wow I have a lot to reply to lol.

I'm so glad you love Cally, cause honestly I tried to make her as real as possible. But I wanted her to still be likable with her issues intact. She's more apt to go for what she wants in say the sequel but it is obvious that issue is there, just not as much. But yes a lot of that has to do with the fact she is only eighteen years old.

Nick, I portrayed him the way I saw him in the year 2004/2005, cause that's the Nick I was going for. Hence why he does have a "recent" ex called London lol. I seriously think he was in a dark place and needed someone to help pull him out bit by bit, which Cally happened to be that person.

As for Brian and Cally, I myself have had moments where I met someone, realized I needed to keep contact even if there isn't a real reason as to why, and got a number. Knowing it seemed odd lol. For me, that moment plays off as a meant to be moment since that's how Nick gets the number, calls Cally and sets off the whole chain.

-Yes Tracy is evil, but every man has a gf who is someone you know is just so he can get the booty.
- The way Cally answers her phone is the way my friend answers his phone lol, thats where I got the idea from.
- Sebastian although misguided, had the best intentions. (LOL I hate defending him but even I know this). He's the good friend who would even have them hate him if it meant she was protected, he thought he was protecting her.
- I love the Grove incident, to me at that point of the story, it's "what could be" in the sweetness of it, and in the paparazzi attack cause both come with Nick.

Actually at first I was going to name it "Happenstance" because of how the story does start off because of a chance of fate. But it didn't sit well with me. Then, I heard this kinda cheesy song by Jesse McCartney on some movie that was on, called "Best Day of My Life", and the chorus goes:
just another day, it started out like any other, just another day, she took my breath, then she turned around, she took me down...just another day I had the best day of my life. I guess it goes to show you never really know when everything's about to change...And it basically said the theme of the story I had in mind, how everything can change on Just Another Day. And the title was born lol

Why did you decide to keep the other guys (mostly Howie, Kevin and AJ) out of the story for the most part? Special reason or didn't they belong/fit in JAD?
They just didn't fit in the way I would have liked. AJ started popping in more, and will be in more the sequel. Howie and Kevin I'm also trying to fit in more, but yeah, it's mainly always going to be Nick and Brian. No special reason to it though.

Ugh.. and another question popped in my head yesterday while I was at work.. but I can't think of it right now..

Owh, and by the way.. I love the Nickname Cally gave Nick! And I love his thoughts about it lol..
LOL Oh you mean Squishy! lmfao honestly the way Nick can be when he's hyper (in the fic or real life lol), is adorable. And it's from Finding Nemo, and just, seems to fit Cally's own brand of randomness and Nick's. I think it's cute lol.

The babysitting chapters, those were fun to write honestly. I was cracking up the entire time. I was originally going to try to squeeze it all in one but figured it deserved two lol. I'm glad you saw I was going for the idea that people misread signals so badly all the time. It was my first chance to really face their POVs against each other since I was using both and it had them both there thinking about the other lol. And with as clumsy as they both can be, getting stuck isn't a huge stretch of the imagination lol.

And chapter 18, I had a hard time with that one, cause Nick finally opened his eyes to what's been there all along. I wasn't sure how to go about it without making it bad lol. So I'm glad you liked that scene as well.  ;D

Oh side note cause I forgot to put this in my earlier post, I'm glad you liked how I snuck in all this BSB stuff to make it FOI. I wanted the transition to be smooth and still have the group we're all fans of in essence be there somehow.

How did you come up with the idea of the painting they at the end use for the album cover? (How it looks, I mean)

I actually am not all that sure. It's first mention comes when Nick sees it in her bedroom, and I was thinking of using it as a way to describe both her and Nick through that in a way. Both were depressed and frustrated with their lives, controlled by someone to a point, hence the spirit in the painting trying to  possess the figure. But something changes, or they think something will, which is why that ray of light is there, a small beam of hope. I was just putting their situation into another metaphor through the painting. It kinda just came to me. And "Haunted" (the name of the album) came through a Kelly Clarkson song that came on, and it fit, cause I already knew from that first mention that'd be the cover. Because to me, it's Cally's huge step forward into controlling her own life.

So it totally just hit me that I never left you a formal congratulation s on this thread. I'm REALLY sorry about that!  :-[

Anyway hmmm... What can I say about JAD? I must admit that I was really pleasently surprised by it. My expectations for it were not very high at first because based on first glance it seems like a typical romance. But once I started reading and heard the distinctive voices of both Cally and Nick I changed my mind. It's so hard as an author to give characters such distinct personalities and tones, but you do it fabulously.

It's been a while since I've read JAD and I need to catch up on G&G so I'm a lil rusy on specifics right now, but its refreshing to see Nick in a relationship with Cally cuz she's SO opposite of the Tracy's and the London's of the world. (Which by the way whenever I hear London Mifftin I think of London Tipton from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody lol) I see so much potential in Cally for G&G and lots of issues that you can delve into with her and Nick's relationship so I'm excited to see where you go with it. Cally is a very interesting character in the fact that she's SO normal all of a sudden living in a world that is so crazy. And yea moving in w/ your brand new b/f so early on in the relationship is bound to cause lots of awkward moments. I love it!

Well you told me in an IM so that was fine lol. But thankies all the same hehe. I have to admit the biggest challenge of this story was to have the voices be very distinct from each other, especially bouncing back and forth between the two. And with G&G yes, the obsticle is this normal average girl thrown into this world that's so "perfect and fabulous" because she wants to be with Nick. I've been looking forward to what will be delved into with that one :)

Yay since I see you online Rose, I'll bother you some more with questions lol

Of course once I actually think of these questions you'll probably be offline but hey, at least they'll be waiting for you :)

I know that currently you are working on the sequel to this story, what made you decide to write Glitz and Glamour and do you think there will be a part three?

How different do you think the story would have turned out if you had made the BSB the actual BSB? Or do you think it would have ended up going in the same direction?

If you decided not to write a sequel to this one, how would you have ended it?

:) lol

And here's another question from me!

Have you ever thought of deleting the whole thing? If so, why? And why did you decide against it?

Did you already have an outline for the sequel or did you go and think: "you know what, I'm gonna write a sequel and I'll see where it takes me!"

Oh, and I have a question about the sequel title.. Now I know it's official the JAD-thread, but still.. I gotta knowwwwwwwwwww www! How did you come up with the title? Especially the 'glitz' instead of 'glitter'. (Now, this might seem to be a dumb question if you live in the US, I dunno.. but to me, it really is a big question.. lol)

And about JAD. (Which by the way, is NOT a cheesy song lol. I have it on my iPod!) Have the characters ever 'decided' on doing something that you hadn't planned for them?

Originally, I wasn't going to, it was supposed to be one fic, but then I realized it turns into a completely different story around the place where I ended it. And because to me it is, I decided to cut the first one off there and tell the second story, and yes there is a part three :)

How different do you think the story would have turned out if you had made the BSB the actual BSB? Or do you think it would have ended up going in the same direction? I don't think it would have worked as well. Because to keep Cally Cally, she would have recognized Brian immediately and it would have changed the entire story.

If you decided not to write a sequel to this one, how would you have ended it?  It would have been a lot longer to tie up every single end I wanted to lol.

Have you ever thought of deleting the whole thing? If so, why? And why did you decide against it?  Quitting? Sure, deleting? No cause still enjoyed what I wrote and wanted to share. I have old stuff from 03 up, so why delete this? lol.

Did you already have an outline for the sequel or did you go and think: "you know what, I'm gonna write a sequel and I'll see where it takes me!"  I'm not big on outlines, but about halfway through I decided it needed a separate story and not a long continuation.

Oh, and I have a question about the sequel title.. Now I know it's official the JAD-thread, but still.. I gotta knowwwwwwwwwww www! How did you come up with the title? Especially the 'glitz' instead of 'glitter'. (Now, this might seem to be a dumb question if you live in the US, I dunno.. but to me, it really is a big question.. lol) People call hollywood a world of glitz and glamour, and thats really what this story is focusing on, which is why that became the title :)

And about JAD. (Which by the way, is NOT a cheesy song lol. I have it on my iPod!) Have the characters ever 'decided' on doing something that you hadn't planned for them?lol it's cheesy but I like cheesy. And yes they have, Nick was supposed to kiss Cally far sooner than he did, he just kept putting it off, the brat. :)

Wow! I can't believe we are already entering the last week of January.

Are there anymore questions for Rose? Or Rose is there anything else you can tell us about your stories? Something you would like your readers to know? A sneak peak of the third story perhaps?

I know! It's crazy. I wanna say thank you again, honestly I'm just all squeee about this. So thankies again to everyone who commented or read the stories. I love ya all :).

I can't give away the third story, cause yeah. But I can put up the banner I have for it cause it reveals nada lol, since I list my summaries below my banners anyway. It's more a tease hehe. Especially since when I finally do start on it, I may change it. It was when I first heard the song Downpour that I finally got the idea for the title (i've had the concept lol)

*raises hand*  I haven't. Not just with my husband, but ever. I've never broken up with anyone. I married my first actual boyfriend. And since we got married less than 3 months after we met there was no time for us to break up.  :D  Maybe that's why I can always stay fluffy? because my life in real life is kind of fluffy. Well the relationship part anyway, I do have PLENTY of other issues. (I'd probably make you all sick if you knew the whole story lol so I won't bore you with it.)

But YAY for the third story, not that I've actually read the second one yet, but hey. I will eventually. And I must apologize because I've had a really rough month and have been pretty scarce around here. I didn't really get the chance to be as vocal about this story as I planned on being. But I wanted to pop in and say again that I LOVE THIS STORY!!! Congrats again Rose and I hope you loved your month! Everyone (you know I have to say it) GO READ IT! ROSE ROCKS!!!
