Here's a new concept in fanfic... AudioFics! I visit Mugglenet.com (Harry Potter site) fairly regularly; they have a fanfic site, which I've never gotten into because I don't read HP fanfic, but I thought this was interesting. They're starting an AudioFic service, like audio books but for fanfics.

Would you ever listen to your favorite fanfics instead of read them yourself on the computer?
-
To add my two cents... it's a little weird at first, but in all honesty, I could see the value in a well-recorded one. A big part of why I read less fanfic than I used to is simply because I don't have a laptop anymore and hate sitting at my desk reading off a computer screen for long periods of time. I would much rather lie on my bed or at least sit on the couch or a comfy chair and read a book. I've never really listened to books on tape, but it might be kinda fun to sit back and just listen to a story.
-
I have never tried books on tape but I agree, I think something like this would be fun to listen to.
-
I think I would like it, if it were well read. But, a not well written story would sound that much worse if you were hearing it out loud instead of just reading it.
Hey... maybe if they did that some of the people out there might realize just how bad their grammar is. haha. We could only hope, right?
But, I would love to hear a lot of the good stories out there. I read out loud to myself anyway, and I love books on tape. Plus Julie's right, sitting at your computer to read sucks. I would totally read more fan fic if I could listen to it from a comfortable position.
So, will this feature be coming to AC any time soon? lol.
-
I do have studios at my disposal, I'll voice an audiofic! lol Unfortunately I don't think my grammar is terrible enough to read some of the stuff out there. I'd have trouble with that.

LOL it would be funny though!
-
Well, I think for an audio book, it should be like those radio plays, where different people voice different characters, that would be cool.
But yes, as a grammar teaching tool, it would be amazing!
-
LOL would it help to have some guys, then, to voice the Backstreet Boy parts?
-
LOL I think it would be better of one person just changed their voice for all the parts.
-
If the story had a lot of characters, that could be hard. lol
-
LOL I honestly don't think I could ever record one of these... I would start giggling in the middle, and it would take forever just to get a good take, let alone record a whole story.
-
i WOULD LOVE TO DO IT! wHOA CAPS LOCK! LOL
-
OMG! When my friends and I started with the Backstreet Boy fever, we would write little skits about the boys and reread them and record on tape...that was the funniest thing, cause we just couldn't make the voices right and we would laugh when it was our turn. With exception of Nick's girlie voice back then...it was a mess, but fun. ::)

That's how all audiobooks are read though

Aww LOL. We used to do that too... not with Bsb, but just recording ourselves talking in funny voices on tape. We'd play "news" and record all our fake news reports LOL.
-
It would be fun to try it with a short story first.
-
^ Yeah, I think that's a good idea. See how long it takes to do a short story before starting in on a novel LOL.
-
lmao yes. Can you imagine doing BMS audio?
-
LOL... no.
-
For some reason I dont think I would do it, I like my fanfics read and not listened too!
-
LOL I dunno if I could imagine BSB Audiofiction. I'm not a HUGE fan of audio books to begin with. I mean I admit they did come in handy when I was in college and student teaching plus taking 15 credits plus working part time and taking an English lit course where we had to read Moby Dick. I popped that tape in everywhere I went and since I figured out that throughout the day I spent about 90 min in my car commuting to and from student teaching and school that's useful time where I could be reading. I think the audio book worked well in that case because normally reading Moby Dick I'd prolly be like eff this! after like a page cuz there are entire chapters just on a whale's anatomy. But normally I'm much to ADHD to focus on an audio book.
It would be REALLY weird to have BSB fan fic on tape. Like some stories are just yea... Pretty graphic. And I actually enjoy reading so it doesn't bother me.

LMAO I was thinking that too; the ones with sex scenes would be all kinds of awkward! I would be deeply impressed if anyone could actually record one of those seriously, and not laugh or do it in a cheesy porno voice. Cause that's what I would do, one or the other or both LOL.
-
LMAO that's what I hear anyway when I happen to get to a sex scene. I hear boom chicka wow wow.
-

How would you even know if someone was reading or listening to your fanfics?

I've read a news story about a guy whose name was HONESTLY "Snaphappy Fishsuit Mokiligon" and didn't laugh.
-

You misunderstood what I said again, I implied I'd prefer to read that fan fics that I read by OTHER people.
-
I didn't misunderstand anything, that's what you wrote.

Well, get going with recording some visuals for us then! LMAO
-

It's not that hard to understand what someone wrote!
-
I understood exactly what you wrote, that's my point. When you don't write it correctly it's not hard to see why it wouldn't be read the way you want.

Yea I mean I write sex scenes and I cringe at mine being read aloud and mine are kinda tame compared to some LOL It would be awkward to listen to. Like watching a movie with your parents and a sex scene comes on LOL
-
I don't understand why it's awkward to hear, but not awkward to read? Either way you're getting a visual.
-
I was thinking the same thing lol
-

I don't think it'd be that much more awkward to hear... I just think it would be awkward to read out loud and record LOL.
-

ah, ok, from that perspective it makes sense. Yeah, I wouldn't want to read that out loud either. *gag*
-
Oh it's gonna happen, my friends, yes it will.
-
*chants* DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
haha. no pun intended.
-
I love reading out loud. I would totally record one, if I had the proper equipment. (and I'd pick one that didn't have explicit sex of course. lol)
I'll have to ask Josh if he has a set up capable of that. I'll bet he does, if not a professional recording studio or anything, but he probably has a good mic on his computer. I know he's done some voice-over stuff in the past for his own projects...
-

I know, but I think my voice would get tired if I had to read an entire book....
