Ready your mouse, it's time to vote!
Sorry for the delay, real life got in the way of the good stuff. So here's the run down...
Go to http://bit.ly/FelixAwards and cast your vote. There are only two categories that you have to vote for and they are Best Author and Best New Author. You have the option to skip others because not everyone will be familiar with the stories.
You will only be able to vote ONCE, I will be able to see multiple entries and they will be deleted. Also, don't vote for yourself. There's no way to keep people from doing it, but it's incredibly tacky, just don't do it.
Voting will end at 11:59:59PM AST on November 30, 2010. Best of luck to all the nominees, and please encourage everyone who may not be on the forums but is on the site to vote. Feel free to put the voting link in the authors notes of your stories, but please keep it out of your summaries.
Any questions, ask away!

I'm using firefox i'm going to try in IE but i can't access the Voting page i've tryed clicking on the link and typing it in the address bar.

Whoops! Thanks for that!

If you're typing the address manually into your address bar you have to make sure Felix Awards is written with the capitals. If you write felixawards it won't work.
I tried it Chrome, Firefox, and Safari and it worked.
-
Whoops! Thanks for that!
You're quite welcome, dear!
-
i have tried everything and i even downloaded Chrome and nothing
-
Ok, well try going directly to the site: http://www.esurveyspro.com/Survey.aspx?id=f9eed5db-55d4-416a-b544-7ea3f7859d80
If that doesn't work, I really don't know what to tell you.
-
I have no idea what is going on with my web browsers. I have all three of them open and iIget an arror every single time. I guess I am not destined to vote. Curse the voting gods. (Just kidding my hubby is helping me look into it too)
-
I just finished voting! I could have actually tried to write/finish some stories this year, but life's just been too busy. I've really enjoyed reading some of these stories though and look foward to checking out those I haven't looked into yet and hopefully getting back into writing soon. Good luck everyone!!!
-
I just voted but realized after that I probably shouldve waited til I read more. I had to guess on new author. Whoops.
-
Voted :)
-
Voted!
-
Me too!
-
I just voted... ;D good luck to all.
-
Voted.
Skipped over the categories where I couldn't choose and/or hadn't read any of 'em - lol.
~Lenni~
-
Yay, I voted too! Some categories it was really hard, but I finally figured out some choices. Good luck to everyone! :)
-
I've voted :)
It was tough in some of the categories though.
-
Voted! Oh gee, this is exciting! ;D
-
I voted! WOO HOO!
-
;D I voted!! Good luck everyone!! :)
-
I voted, good luck everyone. :)
-
i am very sad to say that i am not able to vote, but good luck to everyone (reason is I have no idea why the site won't show up on my browser for any of the web browsers i have) I tried everything deleting the cookies, history and have tried using my husbands laptop and still nothing. I still want to wish everyone luck and i can't wait to see the results.
-
That's weird that it won't show up for you at all. Maybe you could PM your votes to a mod and have them add your votes.
-
I was just about to edit my post when my computer started to acte really glitchy. The good news is that i was able to Vote all thanks to my wonderful cell phone. So, for the next awards i know i can use my cell phone lol. Good luck to all the wonderful writers who were nominated.
-
WOW... I didn't think I would have to say this a day into voting.
Don't try and stuff the ballot box!
Congrats on knowing how to delete your cookies, but you can't delete your IP address. I can, and WILL, be deleting duplicate votes!
I am also able to see the time, so if say... 9 identical votes come in within moments of each other I'm going to consider it suspect, and I can cross reference the IP on the ballots to your AC account.
If you get caught stuffing the ballot box your AbsoluteChaos account will be locked. It's unacceptable, and I doubt the author you're trying to cheat for would appreciate winning like that.
Last and only warning. Thanks.
-
Wow. Who would seriously try and stuff the ballot box? They're just fanfic awards, and as awesome as it is to be nominated, doing that is just lame LOL.
-
Seriously? Lame! If it's an author doing that to vote for themselves, that's uber-lame, but even if it's a reader doing that for their favorite author... don't! I'm sure any of us would want to win on our own merits, not because someone wants to cheat on our behalf.
-
I was giving the link to someone and brought up the voting page and it didn't even load the nominees, it just said I had already completed the survey. So is it possible for people to vote multiple times?
-
Apparently you can clear your cookies and vote again. What a hassle to go through just to cheat. And like Julilly said, you can't change your IP, so she can see when people are doing that and figure out who they are by comparing their IPs to here. The votes just get deleted anyway, so not only will it not do anyone any good, but then you get the reputation of being a cheater.
-

Yes, but no. When you vote it creates a cookie in your browser telling it to remember that you voted. The next time you go back it won't let you vote a second time. But, if you delete that cookie your browser will forget that you voted already and will bring up the list again.
It all seems like a great plan except I can see every submission, and it sends me an alert when there's multiple IP addresses, and I can delete the multiples. So it's a lot of work wasted because they'll just get deleted.
-
of which I will gladly add Cheaty cheaterson to anyone's name under their SN :) lol
-
Cheaters never prosper. I always tell my dance students that when they try to copy dance steps.
-
and they almost ALWAYS get caught lol
-

LMAO please do this!
-
You know I will lol

This is true. How would you even feel good about yourself if you voted for yourself multiple times, or if you knew that your readers had? It ruins the legitimacy of your win.
It's just like people who create alter egos just to leave themselves reviews. What's the point?? Even if you were that desperate for feedback, how could it possibly give you any satisfaction when you know it's coming from YOU? LOL Just look in the mirror and tell yourself, "I'm awesome" - much quicker and easier!
-
"I'm good enough, i'm strong enough and gosh darnit, people like me! Well, no they don't which is why I have to like me even more to compensate!" LMAO
-

My thoughts exactly lol. I mean how do you even validate yourself that way? You know the truth, deep down, even if you pretend otherwise. I can't see why stuffing the box would make anyone feel better. You cheated a win, whoopie doo.
As for the review thing, that's another tangent but SUCH a pet peeve of mine. I mean you know it's not real praise, its just you faking it. Faking it still won't help you make it LOL. It won't help people think you're better, cause all anyone has to do is click and see for themselves. And having a high review count means nothing if you faked the reviews yourself.
Makes no sense to me at all. It's nice to get praise and compliments and all, but if you want it that bad, the best you can do is work on your craft. Cheating doesn't make you better, if anything, it makes you worse.
-

:D
That's crazy that people are voting multiple times... You might as well just find someone with photoshop and have them create an award for your story in the category of your choice. It would be the same as cheating for a win: meaningless.
-
Now the "I voted" sticker I'm wearing makes double sense.
-
:D

LMAO love it!
And yeah LOL, double voting all the way!

IDEA!!! ;)
-
IDEA!!! ;)
Haha I would die laughing if anyone actually did that, truth be told. 'OMG I WON EVERYTHING!' lol
-
It's like, "I know voting hasn't ended yet, but I've already been announced the winner for the Most Creative Action-packed Dramedy Short Story turned Novella featuring Collaborated Male and Female written by the Best New Author... And after getting that award, I was eligible for Best Author and won!!!" ;D

Haha! I laughed so hard at that my eyes watered. That's great!
-
Wow, that really is terrible to vote for your own stuff and to multiple vote. I have photoshop, lol :)
-

How did you know that's what I was getting!
What's even better is if you throw in "I know voting hasn't ended yet and I wasn't even nominated, but..." :)
-

Can I use Paintshop Pro instead? haha j/k
-
What even is an IP address?
-
What even is an IP address?
An IP address is basically a little series of numbers that refers to your location and internet provider and account. It's unique to each person. So say, if someone here has another account and is posing as someone else, the mods would be able to tell. Why? Because the IP address would be exactly the same for both accounts.
So when people try to stuff the ballot box, the mods can tell cause the same nine sets of votes all have the same IP number.
When you post here, it's that little set of numbers next to the "report to moderator" link at the bottom of your post.
-
Forgot to add...
And if the mods wanted to find out who it was, they could just compare the IP that tried to cheat on the voting to the IPs of posters here on the forum, or of those on the actual site of AC. Cause they can look up IPs there as well. :)
-
Well said Rose, it's exactly that.
-
Voted ;)
-
Ok, this is starting to piss me off now...
STOP TRYING TO STUFF THE BALLOT BOX.
I'm going to start calling out people who vote multiple times publicly. It's against the rules. In fact, one of the people who just did it has commented in this thread since I posted the warning yesterday. Not only that but it was multiple votes for THEIR OWN STORIES.
Stop it.
-
Wow.
Not only did someone vote several times but they did it for their own stories?
How freaking shameless can you get? And really, it's not winning if you try to cheat.
-
call them out!
-
Agreed, just call them out. The fact someone did that AFTER seeing your warning shows they don't care. Say who it was. Maybe then they'll learn.
-
Seriously, is sucks the fun right out of even having an awards if people cheat. The whole purpose behind these stupid things in the first place is to allow readers and writers to reward people for their hard work. What good is it if YOU reward yourself? How can you feel good about that?
I mean, okay voting for yourself once I get, I guess? If you honestly feel like out of the pack of people you are nominated against don't hold up to your own story. It's your right to vote for yourself, but to vote more than once? That is douche baggery at it's finest!
Rant over for now!
-
^That is exactly how I feel, Mare. The Felix awards are so fun and I think it's mostly because we have such a supportive and fun community here, we all appriciate and respect each others works. To stuff the ballot box by voting for your own stuff multiple times just ruins the whole point of the awards. Ugh.
-

Seriously, I thought we were all mature and honest enough to be okay with a voting system. Clearly not. Next year (and y'all can quote me on this) I'll find the time to help judge myself so we can just not do the voting thing lol.
-
Wow, even after the warning it's still happening? I have a question concerning the people who are stuffing the ballot: I know the duplicate votes get deleted, but do their original votes get taken off, as well? Maybe it's just me, but if they are trying to put in a ton of votes and are caught, I don't think that even their first should count.
-

Same here, Rose! I'll gladly find time to judge next year as well if needed.

You make a good point, and I think you're right.

I will so remember you guys saying this, fyi lol

Like I said, quote me LOL. Just make sure judging happens during the summer, will you? :)

I agree with this too, you wanna cheat, you get no vote at all.
-
I agree on both counts - don't count their votes at all, and call them out!
I used to have a yearly awards through my site (back when everyone did), and this is exactly why I stopped doing it. The last year I did, there was this group of three or four Nick romance writers who were friends, and they all nominated each other in as many categories as possible, and then they all voted for each other multiple times so that they'd win in the polls. Like seriously, all the other stories nominated had under 20 votes, and the stories by this clique of authors all had hundreds. I thought the polls I had set up were cheat-proof, but it turned out you could vote multiple times by resetting cookies, just like on here, except I didn't have the power to see the same IPs and delete those votes. It just ruined the whole thing.
So... those of you who are out to rig and ruin the Felix Awards, screw you!!
I did like that we were simplifying things by just voting this year because, even with a rubric, judging can be subjective, and it takes so long (and I know last year there was a big problem with judges bailing and leaving Mare and Julilly to finish it all). It's too bad that a few are messing that up for everyone else.
-
No kidding. Delete their votes completely. If you don't adhere to the rules, you shouldn't get to participate!
-
I agree, if someone is cheating then delete all their votes! If someone were to cheat in the Olympic games for example, they'd be disqualified :) How can they get any satisfaction when they haven't won honestly?
And if you ever need a hand with judging for future awards, then I'll be happy to help too.
-
I used to have an Awards site and that was one of the reasons I stopped as well. Unike you guys, I couldn't see IP addresses and the clique thing was growing to ridiculous high school proportions. :/ Then I decided to judge everything with a small committee and had people bail on me. It realy takes the fun out of it and it's not fair.
I agree with the others....if there's stuffage (it's a word--er, at 4:30 in the morning it is, at least) of the ballot boxes, I think it would be a good lesson to just ban that person and dismiss ALL votes.
Way too much drama four days into this d*** thing!
-
I agree, the votes should be deleted if they can't follow the rules. I have a friend who teaches 10th grade English. I helped her look up certain paragraphs of the essays on the internet and you can imagine that 4 students received zeros for using easy essay websites. even though parents would hate this I would have separated the class from those who actually wanted to go to college and have a career to those who don't give a shit and just teach the kids that want to learn. If you are going to cheat your way through life whats the point of going to school if you aren't going to put the effort into it.
I know this is just an award for fun but it sucks all the fun out when people who probably cheated their way through school are doing this.
-
The people have spoken! Your will be done! ;D
-
The people have spoken! Your will be done! ;D
It's only fair :)
-
The people have spoken! Your will be done! ;D
I suddenly had an image of you as Jim Carrey from Bruce Almighty! lol
-
It's annoying! It almost wants you to take their stuff off as nominees as well
I always though just a voted on awards even though SO much easier isn't really as good as a judged awards. The hardest part is getting the judges to fully commit to what they signed up for.
It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't type thing. lol
-
It really is. Both systems hold pros and cons. I guess that's why we've done a bit of both in the past.
-
Yeah, I think the combination is the fairest way to go, when possible. That way it's not totally a popularity contest, but neither can anyone complain that it's totally subjective and biased, either. But it is hard when the judges are flaky.
-
Could you possible do the voting the way you did nominations? Have people send them in to the felix account. You would see mulitiple votes from one person and be able to track the ip address for random new accounts.
-
I'm able to do that now though. Voting by having people send in PMs only leaves room for human error. Emails not going through, or being missed, that kind of thing. Which only leaves more room to say the voting was fixed. With it out of our hands it covers our butts.
The way it is right now I'm able to see and track IP addresses and delete multiple votes.
-
Cheating, really? This is not high school, people.
I am still thrilled over the fact I am nominated! I don't care if I win, the nomination is a huge compliment for me. ;D I don't think I can compete to the stories that are nominated in the same category as mine, but even then I don't wanna cheat. It feels like betrayal towards the people who take the time to organize this AND towards the other nominees. I'd feel totally pissed and sad if someone voted multiple times in Best Fantasy/Supernatural (which is the category my story is nominated for) for their own story but also if someone voted multiple times for MY story. If I win, I want to win fair and square.
So, in case people are trying to vote multiple times for my story (I don't want to sound cocky or anything, but just in case people do lol) DO NOT DO THAT. It doesn't make me happy!
For now, I wish everyone good luck and I do hope these cheaters will quit and get a fair job. ;)
-
I think a lot of people forget that being nominated is an honour in and of itself.
There are nearly 2500 stories on Absolute Chaos, so for your story to be picked out of all of them is pretty big.
-
^That's why.
And as someone who doesn't got English as a native language, this is like a super huge mountain-high compliment and honour for me. ;D I actually squealed when I saw my story and name on the voting page. It was like an extra cofirmation it was true lol! But I didn't vote for myself because I do think the other nominated stories are better than mine. That would mean I would be lying to myself.
-
I agree, being nominated was enough to put a smile on my face! There are so many fantastic stories on AC that it's a suprise to even see my stories in the nominations.
-

or people could just stop voting for themselves multiple times. That would help too. ;)

I was thinking the same thing at first, but if you think about it, that would create a lot more work for Mare, Julilly, and Chaos - they would have to go through each and every PM, verify that it was by a unique user (not the same person with several alter egos - cause we all know people do that ;)), and then tabulate the votes by hand. Not only would there be room for human error, but it would be very time-consuming. Polls are a much quicker and easier option, if only people would just follow the rules and play fair.
-

That's so true. And when everyone can only nominate one story per category, and there are SO many good stories to choose from, it's easy to assume you'll get overlooked in favor of better, more popular stories. It IS an honor just to be nominated!
-
OK I'm really late and apparently I missed all the fun,but Mare you should totally do that! Hilarious! :D
of which I will gladly add Cheaty cheaterson to anyone's name under their SN :) lol

-
or people could just stop voting for themselves multiple times. That would help too. ;)
For real lmao. If people could stop cheating, that'd be awesome!
Especially since the mods are on the verge of outing you. And seriously, could you imagine how embarrassing that would be? LMAO.
-
Buahaha.. This whole thread made me laugh sooo hard. Seriously somebody's that desperate to win? Good God people, be fair. ::) Like everyone else has said, I don't wanna win because of someone cheating, either! Lame!! I'm happy with just the nom too! Everyone's gotta chill out... lol
Loving some of the comments in this thread tho! LOL And Mare -- you sooo should change that person's display text, that'd teach'em. lol :D
-
That is why I didn't vote at all for the category I'm in. I'm not going to vote for myself, but I don't wanna help the competition either - lol.
I doubt I'll win anyway, considering who I'm up against. But it was really nice to see my A.J./Tesia series in the nominations - especially since I haven't updated it in forever.
I think I voted for all the other categories though. :)
Good luck to everybody! (*starts singing Backstreet's Back*)
~Lenni~
-
I see nothing wrong for voting for you competitors if you don't wanna vote for yourself. I know for me, they have stories just as good, if not better than mine, plus it's just friendly competition. But that's just me.
-
Yes, If you truly feel your story was better than the others, than you should have just voted for yourself. Not voting for someone just so they won't beat you is about the same in my book anyway lol
-
I voted in my category. I don't think mine was the best anyway. LOL. Totally happy about the nom though. ;D
-
I voted in all the categories, not for myself though obviously because where's the fun in voting for yourself!
-
I voted in all the categories that I submitted nominations for... I didn't have any clue about a couple of the categories so I didn't vote for random stories. One I admit I guessed on, but only cos I know the quality of the author's other work and if its up to caliber with that then it deserved a vote. LOL :P
-
I left a lot of categories blank because I didn't want to just blindly vote for a story I have never read.
I at first I wasn't going to vote unless I had read ALL the stories in that category because that's the most fair way to do it, but then I realized I wouldn't be voting at all that way lol
-
LOL I know; I was the same way, Mare. I had read at least two or three of the stories in almost every category, it seemed, and plenty of my favorites were nominated, so I just voted for good stories that I like, plain and simple.
-
Same here. I've not read all the stories in each category either and just voted for my favourites.
-
I voted in my category because I think the other nominees in there are better than mine LOL.
Btw, do you still get votes sent in? And do people still cheat, even when we are discussing it in here?
(I still raise my hand for Mare's idea about the display text LOL. Like Pengi said, that'll teach them!)
-
No one has cheated since the last warning I am happy to report! And actually this weekend there was a big wave of people voting, I think about 40 new votes came in.
-
Awesome! Can't wait for the results and see if my favorites won.
-
Just reminding everyone that voting is coming to an end for the Felix awards. You have until the 30th! So if you haven't voted yet, go do it now! :)
-
I can't remember if this has been mentioned or not... Is there going to be an awards ceremony like there was for last year's awards?
-
Yup, of course!
It might not be quite as dramatic lol but there will be one!
BTW... One week of voting left!
-
Yup, of course!

Awww it should be bigger and more dramatic LOL :)

BTW... One week of voting left!
YAY! I couldn't do the last one, I had something going on the same night, so hopefully my schedule will work out this time. It sounded like it was a lot of fun!
-
lol I'm hoping its not one of the nights I have classes... *prays for a thursday/friday* LOL
-
I'll probably miss it because of the time difference, but look forward to it anyway :)
-
JUST OVER 24 HOURS LEFT TO VOTE!
-
I don't think I'm going to win anyway. I'm pretty sure I know who is, even without me voting. And I do hope they do.
~Lenni~
-
Voting is now closed. Thanks everyone! Stay tuned for the big reveal!
-
can't wait.
-
So excited! When are the winners announced?
-
We'll let you know!
-
Squee! This is so exciting! ;D
Uhm... what does the award ceremony mean exactly? Will it be a chat or something else? I hope I can be there. I have all days off for now, but I'm going to work (not exactly work, more like, getting work experience at the company that helps me to get work) soon, so I hope my work schedule will match with the ceremony lol. I know I will work part-time so there's a chance I can be there. ;D My job interview is next Tuesday, so then I'll know more. :)
-
We're still working that all out but really we just kind of announce the winners live and then we make threads so you can congratulate them and make speeches etc... lol
We're trying to get the keyboard cat to play but his people are not easy tpo get in t9ouch with! :P
