For those who didn't get to go to LA or watch the live stream last night, OR who just want to see it again, here's the half-hour segment where the guys shared clips of their new songs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2uLzRa3YLA
I just wondered what everyone's thoughts were on the new music. Personally, I loved almost everything I heard. "Try" was the only one I was kind of "meh" about. The others were all catchy, melodic, and MEANINGFUL! I love the emotional depth and substance all these songs seem to have. For once, they're not all love songs, and I love that! The guys said they wrote 75% of the album themselves, and I'm SO excited to hear it!
P.S. I don't know how long this sub-board's been here - either it's fairly new, or I've just never noticed it before - but in any case, thanks for creating it!
-
I've just finished watching the stream thing and absolutely loved it, and loved the new music.
My favourite from what I heard was Soldier, but I have a feeling I'm going to love this new CD. So excited, can't wait to hear them all in full and see them on tour :)
I also love that they wrote most of it and have a lot more control these days.
-
It's been here for quite a while, Julie lol we just never seem to use it!
I think my favorite one was Soldier but I loved them all except for "Try" I really loved the one where Kevin sang lead but I can't remember the name of it? What I enjoyed most was how excited they all seemed to be particularly AJ who for the first time since I can remember was taking not only a really active role in what was going on but also being the leader. I also love how personal most of the songs meant to them and that there were actual stories behind them as opposed to "Well this guy wrote this one and that guy wrote this one...." Their seemed to be a real sense of pride which has been missing for a long time! I doubt i'll be able to afford to see the on tour but at least I'll be buying the CD! lol
I'm really looking forward to the album now.
-
I loved how proud they were too, and how the songs seemed to mean a lot to them. It's going to be so much better than This Is Us (which I hated about 50% of)
I loved seeing AJ take the lead. I loved Kevin and am still smiling about seeing them all there. I actually thought Brian's voice sounded better on the live bits they sang. I loved Nick's answers about flying to the moon on one of Khalessi's dragons lol.
I just love those boys!
Mare, if I win the lottery I'll pay for your ticket :)
-
I have a love/hate relationship with This Is Us, and the hate part stemmed from so many of the songs having zero substance. Some of them, like the song This Is Us, were great, but the others, like PDA, were gimmicky and stupid and not at all them. These songs are the exact opposite. There's real meaning behind them, and they are much more personal and true to who the guys are as a group. I think this is what we all hoped would happen when they finally left Jive and got some creative control, and it looks like our wish is coming true!
-
I can honestly say I have only listened to This Is Us once all the way through. I can't even remember the name of the album that came before that one. I listened to that one even less. They really were on the verge of losing me as a fan between their last two CDs and collaboration with NKOTB then Kevin came back like the musical Batman I needed him to be!
I am also looking forward to hearing this new Max Martin song!
-
I loved Unbreakable and listen to that quite often still, but the only songs I really listen to off This Is Us are Undone, Shattered, This Is Us and occasionally Straight Through My Heart.
They seem really excited about the Max Martin song, so I can't wait for that. It's great to have all this new music to look forward to, especially now that we've had a little taste of it and can tell it's good stuff!
-
Unbreakable! Why can't I ever remember the name of that CD? lol
-
There are some great songs on that CD :)
-
I think there are a few I like on that one. I can't remember which song is on which CD of those two but my favorite is Bigger lol whichever one that is on.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot about Bigger!
-
I do like Unbreakable. It's on the same level as Black & Blue for me; there are a few tracks that I don't like because they're boring, but the ones that are good are REALLY good!
I think this new album is going to sound more like Never Gone, only even better because it's more personal. I love Never Gone, but most of the songs are pretty generic. And hopefully this one will have more uptempos, not just great ballads.
-
I loved Never Gone :)
-
I am so pumped for the new album and tour! I agree with what you guys were saying about This Is Us (though I will admit, PDA is on my workout mix lol) Ever since they left Jive I've been hoping they'd actually get their act together and release a really solid album. I'm so proud of them and I'm proud now, more than ever to call them my favourites.
Oh also I can't get that Permanent Stain song out of my head and have been singing it/watching the acapella video all day lol.
-
I would love to see an a capella track on the album! I love how they were just able to sing a few of those harmonies a capella!
-
I did like how they seemed to take the harmonizing and a capella really seriously, it was kind of like back in the day when they used to do that all the time with Just To Be Close. Also how Kevin was right in there during the backstage bit, the first time they sang Permanent Stain, and explaining how they were going to do the harmonies etc.
It's like a new era of classic BSB! Love it!
-
Hrm I liked most of This is Us... Unbreakable was alright but it is my meh album.
I watched the clip and I don't know if it's just everything going on right now but I didn't feel that hyped. Maybe when I get the album and can listen to the songs all the way through it will be different, the clips just weren't enough to get me super excited. Some of the beats were catchy and I love how excited they are so I'm hoping that when I get to hear it plugged into my ears I will enjoy it more.
-
LOL Steph, I must also admit that PDA and Masquerade are workout songs of mine also!
Lore, I'm sure it's just because of all the baby stuff and the cruise money etc that you aren't feeling it yet...you will :)
-
I just watched the live stream of them getting their star and it was awesome. They were blubbering messes so I was too! lol
-

That's how I felt about their last two albums. I bet with all the cruise drama going on, it's hard to be excited about anything BSB related. I hope that all gets worked out for you!
-
I missed the live stream :( I was on the phone to my sister (as always) and got the time wrong, so annoyed! But I'm sure it was amazing to watch and also emotional too. I'm going to have to look on You Tube.
-

I know the boys and the crusie line are separate, that it's not the boys that are giving me grief about a refund but since it's for their cruise yeah it's upsetting. I am already upset about missing the cruise, sure excited for a kid but still upset I'm missing the cruise, and with all of this going on it just makes it so much more depressing.
Sorry that's for the pet peeves area not the new music post.
If I remember right I think I did like Permanant Stain and I listened to Try since so many said they didn't like it and I think I kind of liked it a little. LOL This might all change when I actually get the album though.
-
It's always different when you actually hear the album-quality full song for the first time. Sometimes I love the clips better than the song as a whole, but more often than not they can't compare to the full song. I think this album's going to be amazing!
Btw, how awesome was the Walk of Fame ceremony? It's up on http://walkoffame.com/ for anyone who didn't get to see it live. If you haven't watched it yet, WATCH IT!! Just make sure you're alone and have a box of tissues nearby!
-
I know! I cried like a fool lol
-
OMG I bawled man. Especially at Kevin's. Thank God Nick decided to talk about random people talking to themselves and scaring him as a kid. That helps lol. I'm so proud of Boys and soooo excited for the next album now that I've heard the clips.
-
Thanks for the link Julie, I missed it yesterday and so will watch now...in the dark and alone so no one can see me cry like a baby lol
-
OMG sat here crying like a fool! I was fine until Kevin's speech and then that was it. Here's to 20 more years :)
-
I saw some information on twitter and thought I'd post it here. Apparently the single will be out in June and the album in early July. They're also going to be touring in late July in the US evidently.
All of this feels very Never Gone era-ish to me. That album took forever to come out too and when it did the tour got announced fast and the concerts were only a couple months later. Hopefully we get some dates soon because in the case of touring they're really cutting it close.
-
Yay, so exciting!

OMG it so does man. Especially with the debates going on at TDS right now. The opinions on the music are so across the board. It feels like NG all over again, only this time I'm happy with the clips (or leaks as it was then lol).
-
I like when they do things in the summer. Much better than the middle of the school year.
I haven't been to TDS in ages. I'm sure some of these debates are humorous. lol
-
I'm surprised to hear that there are so many varying opinions on the music! I thought that (in general) rich harmonies and meaningful lyrics written by the boys themselves were what people wanted haha.
Maybe I will have to venture over to TDS and see what people are saying!
-
I've seen people say the lyrics are too immature, people rave about it, others say the music needs to be catchier for mainstream. The Boys can never win lol.
-
LOL You're right, some people will complain about anything! It must suck to never be satisfied LOL. I can't believe people are saying their lyrics are immature, though. The lyrics I've heard seem more meaningful than most of their songs, which to make also makes them more mature. They're definitely not bubblegum pop love songs, and while I think they are catchy, they're not trying too hard to be mainstream. That was the problem with TIU. They tried too hard to sound like other stuff that's on the radio, and they failed because even though some of the songs were good, the overall sound just wasn't them. That said, I think we need to stop hoping for mainstream success. I could see them having a hit single again, but they're never going to be as big as they were back in the day, and that's okay. Leave that to One Direction and the next generation's boybands.
-
I agree! Besides, mainstream music sucks! lol Although I do like the new direction music is going with Mumford and Sons etc... I can do without Rhianna and all that crap.
-
Same here!
-
I just watched the walk of fame ceremony last night... with my husband beside me. I was so proud of the boys when the guy host, forgot his name, was saying all the boys' accomplishment . Tears started to fall when the fan said her speech... "From happy meals to heartbreaks..." I love that line. If my husband wasn't beside me, I would have cried like a baby. But since he was there, I tried to blink back most of the tears.
-
I have loved every single song that the guys have leaked so far. I haven't listened to One Phone Call yet because I can't get that link to work for me for some reason, but I am really excited for this album!
I also love how much Kevin is featured on all of the songs! His voice blends so well with Nick's. I LOVE when they sing together! I am so glad they're finally getting that! YAY Kevin!
-
Me too! I stopped listening to the leaks after Madeleine because I still want 2/3 of the album to be brand new when I get it next week, but I love In a World Like This, Madeleine, Feels Like Home, and even Permanent Stain (okay, "like," maybe not "love" for that last one LOL). Assuming the rest of the album fits in with what we've heard, it's going to be way better than This Is Us and possibly one of their best albums ever! I'm so glad they went in a different direction from TIU. I attribute that mostly to Kevin coming back, but it could also be from the whole group taking creative control. Good for them! I'm really impressed! I'm enjoying the balance between their voices, too.
-
Okay, I admit that I've listened to all the songs leaked. LOL
But still I'm waiting for the studio version of "Breathe". That's gonna be my favorite, since I'm already loving it from the live videos.
I love the album, really, but I'm still not digging Kevin's voice. I'm sorry. LOL
-
I LOVE Madeleine! Trust Me has that same simple acoustic feel. I love Permanent Stain. I hate the name but I love the song. I also enjoyed Feels Like Home and In a World Like This. I hope they leak Show Em' What You're Made Of next!
The only full track I haven't really been all that crazy about is the bonus one, "In Your Arms" Which is okay because it's a bonus one and if something is weaker it SHOULD be the bonus track and not one on the album where other years it's been the opposite!
-
Oh yes, I'm looking forward to hearing Breathe as well. The only song I don't care about is Try. But maybe the studio version will be better and less R&B-ish. lol
-

I'm not that crazy for "In Your Arms" as well. Actually, I'm glad it's a bonus track! lol
I love, I love, I love"Trust Me". It's so summer!
Actually, "Show Em" has been leaked. They've played it while they were doing an interview:
http://mybackstreet.net/media/graham-norton/
Here is the whole interview. Which is kinda of funny, especially when they were talking about the break between B&B and Never Gone and said that Jive kinda screwed them taking Nick for his solo album while they were supposed to make the new album. And lol at Brian saying "They took my girlfriend" referring to Nick. :D :D
-
I've found the youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0a3iN_7Emk
-
Thanks!
I listened to that interview but Graham was annoying and wouldn't let them ever finish talking so I didn't hear a lot of what was being said. I could tell it was annoying Kevin too lol
-
YAY! I love that one too! I knew I would though. I LOVE the middle the do do dodo dodododoo part. Boy that's hard to type out so that you know what I'm talking about but I think you get it. LOL
-

Yep, the "do do dodo" part is really nice. And I'm glad they've worked around Brian's issues so he can still shine.
Thanks!
I listened to that interview but Graham was annoying and wouldn't let them ever finish talking so I didn't hear a lot of what was being said. I could tell it was annoying Kevin too lol
Basically it went like that:
- Boys had to make another album.
- Jive took Nick from them.
- Nick was vulnerable.
- Brian was mad as hell because Jive took his girlfriend.
Typed like that sounds like a fanfic. LOL
-
I wasn't sure if it was Brian or Kevin that sad they were mad as hell and then just when I wanted them to keep going because they were FINALLY explaining what happened, Graham cut them off and moved on!
-
It was Kevin saying that Brian was mad as hell. I've kinda listened to that part a dozen of times because I couldn't believe that Brian had said "girlfriend" while talking about Nick. :D
-
I didn't hear him say that lol
-
It was hard to heard because they were all talking together. At first I thought I made it up in my mind or that I didn't get it right (which it might happen). But then more people pointed it out so... LOL
-
Cute, in an after the fact kind of way. LOL
-
Okay I finally heard One Phone Call. I liked it but it's definitely their token "boyband" song. LOL and the article that came with it via MTV, I think they are getting Howie and AJ mixed up with the whole obsessed with selfies thing!
-
I like One Phone Call, a lot lol. Probably because it's the boyband staple. I'm a sucker. Feels Like Home is I think my favorite (so far) though. Kevin on the beginning? Holy hell. But there hasn't been a track I haven't liked yet. And that's rare! I haven't felt like that about in a BSB album in awhile.
-
Kevin was definitely getting annoyed in that Graham Norton interview! He takes forever to tell a damn story, but if people would just listen, his stories are interesting! I like hearing his take on BSB history!
That whole thing about Nick's album was interesting, too... the fact that it was really Jive that pushed Nick to do that, not just Nick wanting to go solo. I guess it serves them right that Now or Never tanked.
-
I think my favorite is Madeliene so far but I'm with you, this is the first time I have really liked everything I've heard, except for Try although I haven't heard the studio version of that and I can get through One Phone Call and it's 2gether feel lol
It seems like people in general seem to like some of the songs too. I'm happy for them and really excited for this CD. I won't be able to get it until end of August or maybe mid September but I'm still excited! LOL

Yeah! I was getting so annoyed because I think Kevin was going to tell us the whole story finally but he kept getting interrupted so we never heard it! Except that Nick was vulnerable. We got that part! lol
-
Screw you Graham! We've been dying to get that story for ages. Blah. I know Kevin takes ages but he's the most honest out of all of them. I like hearing him talk now LOL.
-
I have always loved Kevin's story telling! Hopefully someone else will ask them about that. I mean enough with the stupid advice for 1D question already, move on to the juicy stuff fans want to know! LOL
-
I can understand why interviewers would ask questions about 1Direction, though they must be sick and tired about it. But... fans? Why fans keep asking them this question?
-
Fans ask? I've only ever seen interviewers ask that one. Fans have been asking some dumb questions though! I hate how all the interviewers ask the same damn questions. It's like they all have a generic interview sheet or something.
-
Last week Brian and Howie did a live chat through VH1 and not only the interviewer asked them about 1Direction, but even one of the fan. Really? You have the chance to ask a question and you ask them about new boybands?
-
Oh that interview was the WORST! lol
-
Yes, it was horrible.
Another song (since the album isnow out in Japan), "Light On":
http://www.4shared.com/mp3/fJ24CMmV/Light_On.html
-
Thanks! I like this one too!
-
I really love this bonus track, much better than "In Your Arms".
-
So, okay I want to make sure I'm not missing any leaked songs now lol
We have:
Permanent Stain
In A World Like This
Madelaine - So far my favorite
Show Em' What You're Made Of
Trust Me
Feels Like Home
Love Somebody
One Phone Call - so far my least favorite but still like it. Not a skip song.
Light On
In Your Arms
Soldier
Wow, that's a lot! LOL
-
Exactly.
And I think that we will have all the songs within days since the album is officially out in Japan.
So far, my favorite is "Trust Me" (though I know it will be replace by Breathe).
Least favorite? "Love Somebody". Sorry but I can't get past the "you're the reason why cavemen drew on the walls". Someone better ask Nick what he wanted to say with that! Is it supposed to be romantic? lol
-
LOL
-
:D It sounds like a line from the worst fanfiction ever. :D
-
But yet, it's a very Nick thing to say. LOL
-
:D :D Yes, it is. The wonders of how his mind work....
-

So 10 songs off an album that has 12 tracks? I know some of those are just bonus tracks, but still, that is crazy!!! I get the Boys wanting to build hype and maybe to release it on their own terms instead of waiting for it to leak, but it wouldn't have leaked if they'd kept it under wraps. Why release SO many songs in advance? It annoys me! I only gave into temptation with two songs, Feels Like Home and Madeleine, and then I stopped listening. I want the majority of the album to be new when it comes out; it's not as much fun if I've already heard all the songs. At this rate, I've already heard a third of them.
-
Exactly.

LMAO! Nick comes up with some interesting lyrics. At least it's not "Shorty don't know who I am..." Seriously, is there a BSB song worse than She's a Dream?
-

I'm tempted to use that line for a Brian/Nick story. :D :D :D
Well, Shorty didn't have a radio so maybe that's why Nick came up with the line of the cavemen. LOL
-
I was just looking at the tracklisting and who wrote what on Wikipedia, and Nick wrote a lot for this album! I'm impressed. He's come so far from the days of "Nicky Writes a Song" (http://www.dreamers-sanctuary.com/dwlyn/nickyhumor.html) LOL.
-

LMAO!! Yeah, Shorty didn't have cable either.
-
She's A Dream is pretty bad but almost everything on that cd is bad lol

I am so proud of him. All of them seem to have grown by leaps & bounds! Writing wise!
-
She's A Dream is pretty bad but almost everything on that cd is bad lol
From TIU I only save Shattered and Undone. Though most of the songs were so much better live, especially All Of Your Life. My mom still loves that song!
LMAO!! Yeah, Shorty didn't have cable either.
So now we know that Shorty was a cavewoman!

Yeah, I'm not sure why they are doing this either. I think they did the same thing for Never Gone. I feel like that was another album where I heard almost all the songs before they were released. I am kind of happy they are doing it since I can't really get the CD until a few weeks after it's released. I have been cheating with everything this time around. I plan on watching all the tour stuff too since I won't be able to do that either.
-

I can honestly say I have only ever listened to that CD once in it's entirety lol I HATED it! I did like Shattered though.

I liked All of Your Life a lot better after seeing it live, too! I never disliked it; it was just kind of a generic pop song (as most of the songs on TIU are), but it was so cute live!
I like most of TIU, but the songs I don't like, I REALLY don't like, and there are more of those than on other albums. But I still love Straight Through My Heart, If I Knew Then, This Is Us, and Masquerade.
Shorty being a cavewoman gives me greater appreciation for that song LOL.
-

Never Gone was weird because they did that club tour months before it came out and sang some of the new songs, so we'd heard about half of them through that - Beautiful Woman, Poster Girl, Weird World, Climbing the Walls, Incomplete of course, and maybe I Still? I still think half of NG was new to me when it came out, though, and I don't remember going out of my way to avoid leaks - I pretty much watched and listened to everything during that era.
I know a few songs off Unbreakable leaked, and because of that, I know I avoided the leaks like the plague for TIU. The only song I'd heard when that came out was Straight Through My Heart.
-

My mom loves so much "Straight Through my heart" that I made that song her ringtone. LOL Mine, for awhile, was Brian's version "Straight through my throat, I love coffee so much and I can't wait to drink it".
But even Shorty was so much better live!
-
I can understand listening to all the leaks if you're not going to get the album right away; that way you're not missing out.
-

I'm listening to all the leaks and I've already pre-ordered the album. I don't know if I'll be able to buy the physical one because I don't have a music store nearby. But, really, I'm loving this album. It's really amazing.
-

Nooo, not another one! So if Mare's list is right, this means the only songs that haven't leaked fully are Breathe and Try, and we've heard clips of those. So basically, if you've been listening to all of the leaks, you've already heard the whole album LOL. Fail!
I didn't even like Shorty better live. I did like PDA better live, and Bye Bye Love didn't make my ears bleed in concert as much as it does on the album, so most of the bad songs were better that way.
-

BSB are about the only group I'll still buy a physical CD for. I can't remember the last time I actually walked into a story and purchased a CD - actually, yes I do; it was probably TIU LOL. But I will be first in line when Target opens on Tuesday! I was going to get it at Walmart at midnight, but since the Target version here has bonus tracks, I guess I can wait a few more hours.
-
Nooo, not another one!
Actually, BSB China has already all the songs. LOL And I couldn't help but listen to "Breathe". Oh My God. It's amazing.

I'm like you. Not only I still buy the physical album but I search for the special edition and things like that.
-
I loved the clip of Breathe I heard. I did not like Try. And after seeing everyone tweet about Soldier, I need to stay off Twitter for the next week.
-
I admit. I was worried I'd be disappointed because of Brian's voice. But his adilibs in every song make up for the lack of solos.
"Breathe" is definetely up there with Siberia and Shattered.
-
I like Soldier too!
YAY!!
I must modify my post and add this one to my list now! lol
-
Never Gone was weird because they did that club tour months before it came out and sang some of the new songs, so we'd heard about half of them through that - Beautiful Woman, Poster Girl, Weird World, Climbing the Walls, Incomplete of course, and maybe I Still? I still think half of NG was new to me when it came out, though, and I don't remember going out of my way to avoid leaks - I pretty much watched and listened to everything during that era.
I know a few songs off Unbreakable leaked, and because of that, I know I avoided the leaks like the plague for TIU. The only song I'd heard when that came out was Straight Through My Heart.
They also had all those unreleased songs for Never Gone which I ended up loving as much if not even more than some of the ones that made the album.
Never Gone was my first real experience as a full fledged BSB fan. That little club tour was the first time I ever saw them in concert.
I listened to maybe one of the leaked songs from Unbreakable but then decided I wanted to be surprised. For This Is Us, I listened to one or two but then disliked them so much I was kind of afraid to listen to the rest.
-
Okay I am going from liking this song to really really liking this one! LOL It might be my second favorite.
-

I agree. "Forces Of Nature" is still my favorite.
Okay I am going from liking this song to really really liking this one! LOL It might be my second favorite.
The only one I'm not really digging is "Love Somebody". This album is just amazing. And there still another bonus track that we have to hear, it's called "Take Care" and it's bonus track for Target.
-

Bring it on boys! LOL
-
They should release a song each day. As bonus bonus bonus track. LOL
-
I agree!
Seems like that's what they are doing but they shouldn't stop. They should release a song a day even after the CD comes out! All the ones that didn't make the album! lol
-
Exactly.
I'm sure they can probably make three or four album with all the songs they've recorded for this album.
-
LMAO!! Yeah, Shorty didn't have cable either.
Clearly, she needed to make a few more pesos and buy some damn stuff.
-
LOL I agree with that! Bring on the rejects!
-
Clearly, she needed to make a few more pesos and buy some damn stuff.
I think Cinzia's interpretation makes sense... Shorty clearly lived in a cave, to not know Nick's pedigree!
-
I'd have happily listened to songs they leaked themselves if they were b-sides. Releasing all of the album cuts as "exclusives" to every media outlet in the US is ridiculous. Sure, you may catch the interest of some people who would have otherwise listened to the single and thought "boring!" but it could go the other way too and people who were intrigued by the single and may have taken a chance on buying the record have now potentially heard all the songs they don't like.
I get that they're trying to capitalize on it being a single-heavy industry right now but I think there's much better ways to create buzz than showing all your cards.
-

She had to live in caves for not knowing who Nick Carter was. LOL
But really, another question to ask the guys should be: "Why did you call her Shorty?"

Because Nick wishes he was African-American sometimes? lol

I agree. They should have left it at two songs - the single and the bonus song, Permanent Stain. Although why they picked PS to release first when they have all these other songs that are so much better is beyond me. Maybe they just care more about publicity than making money because, as you pointed out on Twitter, the fair-weather fans aren't going to pay money for an album they can just get for free, whereas we die-hards would buy it even if we'd heard nothing from it.
-

LOL
Dolla dolla bills, yo!
-
LOL
Dolla dolla bills, yo!
:D :D :D :D
Well, cavemen and cavewomen were short. LOL

That is true, but then again besides the die hard Backstreet fans, is anyone even bothering to listen anyway? I mean to one or two of the tracks maybe if they just happen upon them, but I can't see people searching them out like we are. I know I see things all the time about other artists new songs and I have yet to click on one at all. I can't really see people clicking for BSB.
If they do, I think the eclectic mix might be a good thing for them. This album does seem to have a little bit of everything which is what 'i find most exciting!

I love Permanent Stain. I like it more than In A World Like This actually LOL
And on behalf of the poor BSB fans. Not buying an album because you get it for free may not be a choice for some. Doesn't make us all fair weather fans. LOL Just very very poor ones!
-
I like eclectic albums too! That is why I liked Unbreakable better than TIU - it's not my favorite album either, but it has a little bit of everything. A lot of it is good, some of it's just okay, but none of it is horrible. I think that's the best way to please the majority of fans.
-
^ yes, that's what this album is to me. I mean if you listen to Madelaine and then One Phone Call you might think you're listening to two different bands! I love that!
-
I love Permanent Stain. I like it more than In A World Like This actually LOL
And on behalf of the poor BSB fans. Not buying an album because you get it for free may not be a choice for some. Doesn't make us all fair weather fans. LOL Just very very poor ones!
Well, there ya go! Maybe PS wasn't a bad choice. I like it, but I don't LOVE it. It sounds too much like It's Christmas Time Again without being an awesome Christmas song with a pandaskunk video.
In a World Like This, on the other hand, seems like a perfect first single choice to me. It's catchy, and it sounds like a BSB song without sounding dated or trying too hard to sound current. It's just effortless. Max Martin has still got it!
I didn't mean that anyone who's not going to buy the album is a fair-weather fan. I just meant that there ARE fair-weather fans out there who might have considered buying the album otherwise, but won't if they realize they can listen to it for free. There are artists I like whose albums I haven't bought after they put them online to preview because I listened to them and didn't think they were worth paying money for. Otherwise, I might have bought the albums without hearing anything just because I liked their previous albums.

I admit that I'm addicted to download music. First of all, I'm jobless so I don't have too much money to spend on music. If it were for me, I would own every kind of album. lol Second, I live in a small town without a record store so it's a little bit difficult to find the album. BSB should be proud because they are one of the few artist I'd go at every corner to find and buy their album. LOL
That being said, I don't love Permanent Stain and, really, "Light On" should have been on the album instead.
-
I think In A World Like This was a much better choice for the single too. I just prefer Permanent Stain, sans panda skunks lol
Most people don't even invest in entire albums anymore. I did a survey with my 5 - 8 graders at the end of the year and one of the questions I asked them is when they buy music do they buy the entire album or just singles and they pretty much all said singles. Some bought entire albums (specifically Taylor Swift, Adele and 1D) but for the most part, thanks to I tunes people just kind of pick and choose what they want to hear now. I kind of miss the old days when you never knew what you were getting until you got it.
I just get hyper sensitive about being a fan versus how much you're willing to spend on them. Sometimes I think all we tend to be is dollar signs to the guys and if you don't go on things like the cruise or see a bunch of tour dates and spend money on VIPS, you aren't as great of a fan as someone who does those things. You never see them say "All you people who maybe can't go to a show, how about a tweet and we'll follow you!" #poorBSBfansrock! LOL
Random thing here: To me, the best part of the whole buying a real CD is reading the liner notes! That's the one thing I won't cheat on until
I get to see them in person! LOL
-
^^^ I think that's the best thing too. It's why even when I spoil myself by listening to tracks (especially now that the entire thing leaked in HQ), I won't read liner notes. I leave that for when I have the album in my hands.
-
I love reading the liner notes too! That is part of that whole experience of listening to the album for the first time - the actual album, not just the leaked/downloaded tracks. And BSB are the only group I even bother to read the liner notes for.
-

I love following along with the lyrics when they're included! LOL
-
Me too!! I wish they included the lyrics more often.
-
I know! It seems like that's a dying art. Way back when, all the lyrics to all the songs used to be included in the album jacket. Now we're lucky if we get one or two of them, if even.
-

That's the position of their publicity right now though. They're clearly trying to engage people who thought they were long gone by giving the BuzzFeeds and Entertainment Tonights of the world "exclusives" in return for what is ultimately free advertising.
They want someone who watches ET or reads BuzzFeed who otherwise would have never sought them out (fans that fell off the wagon years ago, or new ones) to hear the track and then try and find more. And when they do... they'll find all of it lol and not have to buy the CD. (or, considering most people only buy single songs. They won't have to buy a single song)
We can't assume that everyone is like you and isn't clicking on new music that they aren't familiar with because otherwise the YouTube sensations that have taken over the charts wouldn't be there lol
-

Confession. I don't read liner notes. Ever.
It took me years to figure out wtf people were talking about with the Nick talking in telephone code thing. I don't know why but I guess I don't really care about the 40 people I don't know that artists feel compelled to thank? lol
I'll edit this to add that yes, I do skim through to look at the pictures. I just don't read the messages.
-

Everyone should be like me. The world would be a much better and organized place! lol
-

This is a fact.
-
She had to live in caves for not knowing who Nick Carter was. LOL
But really, another question to ask the guys should be: "Why did you call her Shorty?"
OMG I'm dying! My parents have a cleaning lady that comes on Wednesday mornings. She's German and speaks very poor English so for a long time she couldn't remember what our dog's name is. I overheard her just now call the dog Shorty as she was petting him and I DIED laughing!
-

So Shorty wasn't a girl or a cavewoman but a dog! :D :D :D :D
-
That... also makes sense. Whoa... mind blown!
-
:D :D :D
Multiple interpretation s. :D :D
-
Makes sense now why she was living under a rock. Because she's such a dog.
-
I would probably get all these jokes if I had listened to that song more than once but I don't think that shall ever happen so... lol
-
I have finally just listened to the entire album and I love it! Seriously, it's way up there with Millennium and bypassed Never Gone! This is the first time I can honestly say there is not a single song I want to skip. I thought Try was going to be that song because I HATED the clip I heard of it, but the studio version is so much better and it's not as flat out R&B like I thought it was going to be.
Without a doubt, Madelaine is my favorite song but coming in a close second would be Show Em' What Your Made of, Soldier, Trust Me and Breathe! Yes all of those tied for second! That says something right there! The only song I really didn't like and can see myself skipping down the road might be One Phone Call but even that I liked more than some of the songs I claim to really like on Unbreakable and This Is Us. lol
YAY boys! They really have something special with this CD. I really do believe that. I can feel like it's different, a huge growth. Anyone else who has listened, do you feel the same way?
This is what made me fall in love with them in the first place. I remember hearing Millennium and being so impressed with their vocals, I had to find out everything there was to know about them. I think if this was my introduction to BSB, I would be feeling the same way all over again! :)
I'm' so proud of them! LOL
-
I was trying to resist listening to the new stuff, other than IAWLT and Permanent Stain, but I have given up and needed to see for myself how good the songs are lol.

I'm so proud too. The only song that I'm always skipping is Permanent Stain, after awhile I start singing the Christmas song. lol
But, really, I'm amazed by this album. It's amazing.

Welcome to our side. We always have the cookies. LOL

I love your review, Mare. I'm glad you love the album so much, and I'm sure I'm going to love it too! I can't wait till Tuesday (except I'm going to, damn it! LOL).
-
I've listened to about half so far and really loving it, can't wait for my CD to play in the car :)
-
I love Make Believe, and basically the whole CD! Don't think there's any I'd skip, unlike TIU where I skipped a few.
-

Only a few more days! I'll be curious if you feel the same because we tend to have the same taste with most of their songs.
-

I like that one too. I also love how the songs are all kind of long. No 2 and half-ers! LOL

I love everything I've heard from this album already, including the clips of a lot of the songs from the fan event - I'm sure I'm going to love it!
-

Just to throw it out there, I feel the same as you do about this album. It's incredible.
-

Excellent!
-
I'm addicted to "Light On". Seriously. I love that song!
-
I seriously can't get enough of this album. I think I listened to it 4 times in a row yesterday which might not seem like much, but believe me, for me it's a big deal! I never ever listen to entire CD's more than once in one sitting. I don't care how good it is. When I listen to music for a long period of time it gives ma headache because I can't do much else but concentrate on the music. LOL I know, weird.
It's Soldier that I found myself singing when I woke up this morning. LOL
-
It's a perfect album. It's perfect for when I'm doing houseworks. And I can't wait tonight to put it in my car and blasting while driving.
-
I won't be able to do that since I don't have a CD player in there but I will still sing them! LOL
-
LOL
-
I've been playing it in my car today, nice and loud with the windows down LOL.
My favourites at the moment are Make Believe, Light On and Soldier, but I love them all.
-
I just listened to Soldier! LOL
-
It was past midnight and yet I blasted "Light On" on my way home.
I think other drivers had thought I was crazy because I was dancing while driving but... who cares? lol
-
I love the bridge of that song.
-
I finally figured out that "Make Believe" reminds me of the song "Fireflies!" ever since I heard that song, it's been bugging me why I felt like it was so familiar to me! I feel so much better now! LOL
-
LOL aww. I love Make Believe, it's just got this vibe I can't get enough of.
-
I've been playing it over and over, it's my favourite off the CD :)
-
It's not mine, but it has always reminded me of a song but I could never place it. I can't get enough of Madelaine. I play it like a thousand times a day!
I also smile throughout Love Somebody because you just know Nick wrote that as a love letter to Lauren and hearing how happy he is on that song makes me happy for some reason. You know one day he accidentally spilled her beer and she didn't get mad! Now that is love! LMAO
-
Though I've already listened to the album (for the past days... on repeat...) I'm happy because tomorrow it's gonna be released here in Italy!
-
I had my email from Amazon yesterday to say it had been sent, so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the actual CD :)
-
Yay! Mine is only the Itunes version, I'm waiting for all the different versions of the physical album so I can chose which one to buy.
-
I should've shopped around I suppose, but I ordered it from Amazon because it had the MP3 version free too, which doesn't really matter now because I downloaded it a few days ago LOL
-
Woot!
-
Okay I have NO Idea how I feel about "Hot Hot Hot" now that I've heard it in full lmao.
-
My first reaction was: WTF? O.o
My second: were they drunk when they wrote and recorded this song? lol
Third: well, it's fun to dance with. lol
-
My reaction was, Glad it's a bonus track! LOL Yup, think I found my skip song on this one! But to their credit, at least it's a fun one? Sadly with the crap that's on the radio these days, that song would probably blend in nicely.
-
lol It's definetely better than some crap on the radio. Still... Someone better ask them what the hell were they thinking when they were writing it. LOL
-
lol It's definetely better than some crap on the radio. Still... Someone better ask them what the hell were they thinking when they were writing it. LOL
my guess is there was not much thinking going around at all.
Howie: Hey guys what do you think the chorus should be?
Kevin: How about we use the word hot
Nick: Hot?
Brian: Hot?
AJ: Hot?
Howie: Hot? HOT! Got it hot hot hot hot hot hot! Excellent...mo ving on...
-
LMAO Okay, someone needs to send me this song, as well as all other bonus tracks that will NOT be on the Target album I'm buying tomorrow. It's not cheating if they're not on the CD. :)
-

I just tried emailing it to you but for some reason it came back to me and said the address wasn't correct. If you PM me your email address I'll forward you the epic song! LOL
-
It's rokofages75@dreamers-sanctuary.com. Thanks!!
-
It's really epic.
An epic WTF! XD But that's we love them so much.
-
Better or worse than Hologram? Cause Hologram was my big "WTF" b-side of TIU, but it's also probably my favorite one! It's so bad, it's good! LOL
-
Better or worse than Hologram? Cause Hologram was my big "WTF" b-side of TIU, but it's also probably my favorite one! It's so bad, it's good! LOL
I love Hologram! lol
Let's say that it's still way better than Shorty! lol
-
Well that's good! LOL Not that anything could be worse than Shorty!
-
Just sent it to you! LOL
I don't even remember Halogram but it's very random!
-
Got it - thanks, Mare! I'm listening to it right now, and I actually like it, but I may have laughed hysterically at the chorus! Granted, I have not heard most of the album yet, so I don't have a lot of other new music to compare this to! LOL
-
Here's Hologram - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ8IEfila9k "Bang, bang, choo-choo train..."
I did not realize until I went to YouTube that song that Chris Brown recorded it too. It fits his style more, but BSB sing it better!

What I love most in Hologram is that I can make up words and not feeling stupid. Choo - choo train? lol

LOL "Choo-choo train" is like a little kid nickname for a train here, just like you'd call a dog a "doggie" or something. But it has no business being in a Backstreet Boys song. But that is what makes Hologram so awesomely bad, it's awesome! LOL That and Brian singing ghetto, going, "Bom bom chicka bom bom!" Classic!
-

I can totally see him having so much fun singing that song! lol
-
Does he get any good solos on the new album, or is it all just ad-libby stuff like in In a World Like This?
-
Okay I have never heard that song before and I will never listen to it ever again! LOL
Love the aeiou's going through the whole thing! LOL
-

Are you talking about Brian?
Brian is the new Kevin on this album. He's there but he doesn't really have that many solos at all.
-
This is a horrible horrible song! Hallogram! LOL

He has some good solos but they really let him shine with ad-libby. Though I'm not that disappointed, I guess I'm more pissed about the reason why he doesn't have many solos.
Are you talking about Brian?
Brian is the new Kevin on this album. He's there but he doesn't really have that many solos at all.
Oh Gosh...I've just had this terrible image of Brian with the devil eyebrows. O.o
-
Sorry lol
-
My friend sent me Hot Hot Hot as it's on the iTunes version but not the Amazon one which I bought. I have to admit it's the one I'll be skipping. It's crap!! lol
I actually loved Hologram though, even though the words are a bit WTF :)
-

That is kind of what I figured would happen. That's okay, though... it's nice to hear Kevin's voice again, and all the other guys are sounding so good, you can't blame them for taking all of Brian's solos! :-[
-
He does great with the ad libs. Playing to his strengths I'm sure will help his confidence too.
-
Hologram is my jam!!! It's stupid, but I like it way better than some of the stuff on TIU. If they had put Hologram, Figured You Out, and Funny Face on that album in place of Bye Bye Love, PDA, and She's a Dream, I would like the album a whole lot more!
-
I don't know if I have heard any of those either, except for Funny Face. Like I said with This Is Us, I hated the tidbits of things I heard so much (like Funny Face) I was afraid if I listened to entire songs I wouldn't buy the album. LOL
-
Here's Figured You Out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDa91pqFZng
Aww, you didn't like Funny Face either? No one I've talked to likes Funny Face! I LOVE Funny Face; it's so freaking cute! It renews my crush on Nick every time I hear it.
-
I pretty much hated everything associated with that album except for Bigger and Shattered, both of which I loved.
-

Fallen Angel. I'm still mad that they chose "Masquerade" over "Fallen Angel". I blame it on Nick. LOL

What's with them having to repeat words over and over again? LOL
I don't like this one either!
-

I could do without Bigger, and that's probably the only Max Martin BSB song I'd ever say that about! I don't dislike it, and it's fairly catchy, but it's far from my favorite song on the album.
I do like Shattered, though... especially when sung Michael McDonald style. I finally had to make an mp3 of that YouTube video to play in my car because I sing it that way even when I listen to the regular song now!
-
^ I think that's why I like it too! LOL
-

Aww... I like Fallen Angel, but I love Masquerade! I don't know why, because that song is kind of dumb too, but it's always been one of my favorites on the album. I guess I like the dumb songs! Except for PDA and She's a Dream.
-

Aww, boo! LOL They were not super creative with the choruses of the songs from that era, were they?
The worst is Funny Face, the verse that goes, "I know you wanna laugh, c'mon... I know you wanna laugh, c'mon... I know you wanna laugh, c'mon, laugh with me, c'mon..." What! LMAO But I still love it; that just adds to its charm.
-
LMAO!!
-
Maybe Hot hot hot was a reject from This Is Us? LOL
-
I loved Shattered, Undone, This Is Us, Masquerade but could quite happily pretend the rest of that CD doesn't exist! I thought Straight Through My Heart and Bigger were OK though.
I would've liked some of the songs that didn't make it to be there instead, like Fallen Angel, Figured You Out and Hologram
-
I did it too. LOL
Love it!
When I saw them at soundcheck in Cincinnati that tour, way after they'd done that the first time, they sang Shattered, and Nick did the Michael McDonald voice, but no one else did. It was so funny. My friend Laureen who was with me hadn't seen that video, and she was just like, WTF is he doing?? But I loved that I was able to get my own video of it! It's not nearly as funny as the original when they were all doing it, though.
-

That video and mp3 is the only way to go through that song. At least, to me because it seriously kills me everytime so much that when I tell my friend that I'm listening to it she always asks me if I am okay.

I know! I have found that watching the video is still funnier than just listening to it, because when Nick starts singing and Brian starts cracking up, that is what gets me every time!
-
In case there is anyone who hasn't seen this thing, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wI8SDPg1FA Must watch!!!

Frick and Frack at their best! LOL
-
Frick and Frack at their best! LOL
Absolutely!
-
I loved that video! LOL
-
I love how happy Brian is when Howie started singing as Micheal McDonald. :D :D :D :D
-
I know! He's like, "YES!" with the hands over his head. I love that they got Howie to do that! It'll be interesting to see what soundchecks are like with Kevin this tour; I wonder if he'll get goofy and play along with stuff like that. I could see him doing it; he really does have a good sense of humor, and he seems to be more relaxed nowadays LOL.

I never put too much attention before at Kevin but, seriously, I'm shocked by how much he seems to be relaxed. Especially, how much him and Brian joke around.

I think it helps that they're all older now, more on the same level as far as maturity goes (especially Nick). They can all goof off together without Nick and Brian being the annoying ones LOL. Although I still notice him slipping into that "Dad" role, like in that People video we were tweeting about. "Hey, guys, let's not talk over each other! We've still got time left." LOL I love him for that stuff, though, because it's true! We want to be able to hear them individually! I love when he tells the fans to stop screaming so they can get a word out, too, because I'm always thinking the same thing. Shut up and listen!!!

They're having so much fun this time, that's really true.
-
^ Me too! Him yelling at the fans was always one of my favorite things! LOL
-
I think this might be the best BSB era ever! From the sound of all your reviews, it's one of their best (if not THE best) albums, and I just love how all five of them seem so happy, both in their individual lives and with being together. I think it's the best time to be a fan, anyway. I do still love watching things from the Millennium era and everything before that and remembering those early days, even though they seemed untouchable at the time.
-
I think fans now, at least the most sane and normal ones, appreciate them now more than years ago.
And one thing that I'm loving is how tight they seems to be. They look out for each other.
-
I loved that video of Shattered, although have no idea who Michael McDonald is lol

I agree! It just seems like they are all excited and legitimately happy and proud of what they have done! And like you said, Cinzia, they seem super tight all over again and looking out for each other. Love them!
-
I think I might google him :D
:D I did and I still don't know who he is. From now he will be "the guy who Brian and Nick imitated during Shattered".

Never heard of them before.

So, "Take Care", the other bonus track from Target, is gonna be a ballad and it's written by Howie and Brian. I can't wait to hear it.

I can't wait either, I'm just listening to In Your Arms on You Tube, I think that's a bonus for USA too, unless I'm wrong and it's somewhere else. We got the crappy bonus LOL
-

Yep, Target gets two bonus tracks, "In Your Arms" and "Take Care".
I'm not that thrilled with IYA.
-
It's better than Hot Hot Hot :D
-
:D :D :D
-
Just listened to "Take Care". Wow. I think it's gonna be one of my favorite. And, in my mind, it's totally a FrickNFrack song. U.U
-
I haven't listened to that yet. Gonna do it when I buy the CD today.
-
Yeah, I'm not liking Take Care either. Once again I'm glad it was only a bonus track. It's all over the place. There are parts I like but overall it's kind of just really confusing. LOL
-
:( I'm sad. I had so much build up for this record and I was so excited to listen to it but to be honest I know Mare's tastes well enough to know that if she loved it, I wouldn't love it as much. When I put my headphones on I made a pledge to listen all the way through a couple times but I'm having a really hard time with that. I'm hoping it grows on me but.... I was on board totally for IAWLT and PS but then Breathe started a run of skip songs. I probably will only listen to Breathe one or two more times because I thought it was so boring. As I write this Make Believe is on and it's a bit better but... :/

You'll probably love Hot hot hot then LOL
I dunno I haven't really been crazy about anything yet. This seriously has me bummed out, I really can't vocalize how mad I am at myself that I can't just be madly in love with every track!
-
Maybe it'll grow on you. Give it time. lol
-
Maybe it'll grow on you. Give it time. lol
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I was really disappointed with Never Gone when it came out but I listened a few more times and songs grew on me. Strangely, I find listening in the car to an album better for the first time than through headphones so I'm going to listen again on my way to and from the gym :)
-

Excellent! :)
I also find sometimes it's a matter of which Backstreet Boys do you like best?
The straight up pop, the more R&B, The trying to be "in" or the simple acoustic versions of the guys. I enjoy the latter which is probably why I loved this album and "Never Gone" so much. I tend to also enjoy their straight up simple pop songs like the stuff on "Millennium" and some of "Black and Blue," but I hate when they try too hard with studio tricks and looping and care more about production than the songs themselves which is why I hated "This is Us" and some of the songs off of "Black and Blue."
Just a matter of taste I guess.
If it makes you feel better, I really hated the beginning of Breathe at first but then it grew on me. I also remember HATING Siberia but now it's one of my favorites. It took a while for that to happen though. LOL
-
Unbreakable is just so high up on a pedestal that nothing can top it, it seems. I had skip songs on that album, too though. I dont think theres a single BSB album that I dont have at least one. I did like most of This Is Us, too - Bigger is one of my favourite BSB songs.
I didn't like Trouble ls at first but now if it comes on I have no urge to skip it :) I have the same hopes for tracks 3-7. Except maybe 7. I really did not like Try lol
-

I couldn't remember which bonus track you said this about when I was listening, but when I got to Take Care, I was like, "Okay, this is the song Mare was talking about!" I can see what you mean, but overall I really like it. I wasn't sure at first, but it grew on me as the song went on. It's just kind of weird sounding! LOL
-
I've not heard Take Care yet as it's not on my version.

I have a feeling this one will eventually grow on my too. I like some of the elements of it but it seems just kind of thrown together. The Frankenstein of songs or perhaps the Scrapple if you are from Eastern Pennsylvania! LOL

See, I don't even remember Unbreakable was released half the time! But I did just recently re listen to that one and it's not bad, just kind of forgettable I guess since I always forget about it. LOL
-
I've not heard Take Care yet as it's not on my version.
Would you like me to email it to you? If you pm me your email address I will gladly do that! or for anyone else who is looking for that.
I am missing IN Your Arms, I think. The bonus one from Target?
-

I love the lyrics of "Take Care", especially the line "You don't need someone to take care of you". It's so me!!!
-
Funny thing about "Love Somebody" and its epic line "you're the reason why cavemen drew on the walls."
Here in North Italy, not too far from my little town, there is this place, called Val Camonica, really famous because there are caves with prehistoric drawings on their walls. So now, me and my friend have called "Love Somebody" the "Val Camonica's song"
-
Well there you go! Maybe he has been there or something! LOL
I actually love that line in the song harmony wise and the next line that really makes no sense. After every summer we fall? LMAO Love it though!
Ooh let's make our fav songs in order list! YAY!!
Like oh my god I am being such a teeny bopper right now! LMAO Squee!
-
Okay, here's my official review now that I've heard the whole thing once and am on my second listen! First of all, I LOVE this album! The whole thing! There's only one potential skip song, and even that one isn't bad like the skip songs I have on TIU, all of which are just horrible songs LOL. Like I just tweeted, this album is LIGHT YEARS away from TIU and a bazillion times better!!! It may be the best BSB album ever, but I won't decide that until the newness wears off so I can see how it holds up to the others. I think it's definitely going to be up there with Never Gone, Millennium, and Backstreet's Back for me though!
I've already talked about IAWTS and PS enough on here, so here's my song by song review for the rest of the tracks that are new.
Breathe - I knew I would like this one just from what we heard at the fan event, and I was right! It's smooth, beautiful, and just the right amount of catchy.
Madeleine - I caved and have been listening to this one ever since it was leaked, but it still stands out as being one of the best on the album. Simple and absolutely beautiful! I'm glad they went acoustic and didn't over-produce this one.
Show 'Em (What You're Made Of) - This is probably the track I was most excited to hear in full, and I was not disappointed! It brought tears to my eyes. One thing I love about this album that is so different from the rest of their albums is how personal it is! Not every song on the album has that feel, but this one definitely does. This is what I've been waiting years for!
Make Believe - This was the first one that really had that feel of trying hard to sound current, but that's okay because, unlike some of the songs on TIU, they didn't have to sacrifice anything, like good melodies/harmonies or meaningful lyrics, to accomplish that. I like this song!
Try - This was the only song they previewed at the fan event that I didn't like, so I was prepared not to like it on the album either. But after listening to the whole thing, while I don't LOVE it, I don't hate it or even dislike it, either. It may end up being my only skip song, but it may not - too early to tell. It's not a bad song at all; it's just not my style of music. I think it would have been better as an AJ solo track, since he basically sings the whole thing anyway and sounds great doing so!
Trust Me - This song is cute and will be fun to sing along to once I learn all the lyrics. Speaking of which, I was SO excited to see they put the lyrics to all the songs in the liner notes!!! That is going to help me out so much because I have three days to memorize the whole album before the first show on Friday! "Making sweet sexy babies" made me giggle!
Love Somebody - I knew that Nick must have had a hand in writing this song before I double checked. It just has Nick written all over it, from the sound of it to the lyrics. Is this the one someone (Mare?) said sounds like it could have started as a love letter to Lauren? That was what I thought, that Nick wrote it with Lauren in mind. The line about her wearing the jersey of his favorite team made me smile. Cute song!
One Phone Call - Like with the last song, it did not surprise me one bit to see that Howie had helped write this song because its so cheesy, but I LOVE IT!!! I think I saw someone say that this was their one old-school boyband track, and I agree. I started giggling when it got to the chorus with "leave a message at the tone," but like I said, I LOVE IT! It's cute and catchy, and hey, what would be a Backstreet Boys song without at least one cheesy analogy song?
Feels Like Home - This was the other leaked track that I caved on and have been dancing around my apartment to for like two weeks, but I still got up and danced around my living room when it came on - one of my favorites! Such a fun song and, again, I love that it's personal. Kevin's voice cracks me up!
Soldier - Like a lot of people, I think this is my favorite of the new tracks so far, although it's hard to choose because there are so many good ones! I just love this one because it's so incredibly catchy and upbeat!
In Your Arms - This was a good choice as a bonus track. I don't like it better than the tracks on the regular album, but I do like it! I forgot how many of these songs we had already heard clips of until I listened to the album and was like, "Oh yeah, I've heard this!" I stopped playing those clips months ago so I wouldn't wear them out, so I forgot what most of the songs sounded like!
Take Care - As I said in my last post, I can see what Mare was saying about this one being all over the place. I was kind of "WTF?" over it at first, but once it got into the chorus, I started to get into it. Overall, I really like it, I think because it's so different sounding. Siberia was that way for me; I hated it for the first five seconds of the first listen, and by the chorus, it was my instant favorite song.
So my overall impression of this album is that it really shows how much they've grown, not only as musicians but as people too. Ironically, I think it's way more "them" than This Is Us was. LOL I think it strikes the perfect balance between the more "organic" Never Gone and the more modern-sounding Unbreakable and TIU. And yet, it still has some great, catchy boyband pop songs that harken back to Black & Blue and Millennium. It doesn't sound dated, and yet, it doesn't have that feel of trying too hard to sound current, either. It's not over-produced, but I like that there is a nice blend of songs that are more simple and acoustic-sounding along with songs that have had more production put into them. There's a little something for everyone on it!
This is the album I was hoping they would make, and I think it was the perfect one to release for their 20th anniversary! Love!!! :)
-
If someone could help me out, what other bonus tracks were released in other countries? I have Hot Hot Hot, but am I missing any others? If so, could someone send them my way, pretty please? I'd be happy to share In Your Arms and Take Care if anyone needs them!
-
Well there you go! Maybe he has been there or something! LOL
I actually love that line in the song harmony wise and the next line that really makes no sense. After every summer we fall? LMAO Love it though!

LOL I can't understand it either. Maybe he wanted to say "after every summer there is the fall" but didn't sound right? LOL
-
I love the lyrics of "Take Care", especially the line "You don't need someone to take care of you". It's so me!!!
I thought of you as I was listening to it, Cinzia! Such a great hurt/comfort song! I always smile at songs with lyrics that I can see myself using in a fanfic someday LOL.

Every summer we fall? LOL That is actually quite clever when you think about it! Since fall comes after summer and all. It's cute!
I may need another listen or to before I can rank the songs, but I am so right there with you! I'm glad I finally have this thing so I can participate in this conversation; you guys have been killing me the last few days!!!
-
OOH I need In Your Arms please!
I think the only ones out there are hot hot hot and Take Care. At least that I know of.
-

-

I need all the lyrics, my ear isn't that good at catching all of the words with only listening. But, yeah, this song has the potential to be used in a fanfic. And... I don't know, since Brian wrote it, I kinda can relate it to what he's going through. I'm weird, I know.
So far, all of the songs are amazing. The only one I'm only skipping is Permanent Stain, Love Somebody I laugh everytime and Feels Like Home makes me shake my head because... guys, why don't you sing about Italy too? LOL
But, hands down, my favorite is Breath.
OOH I need In Your Arms please!
I think the only ones out there are hot hot hot and Take Care. At least that I know of.
"Light On", which is the Japanese bonus track.
-
Oh! I have that one as well if anyone needs it. I thought it was just part of the album "Light On." LOL
-

Give me a minute to rip the CD, and I'll send it your way!
-

Nope.
The guys have mentioned another song that could be a bonus track in the future (or who knows) which is "London Lights". But no one knows about this song, though.
-
I would love Light On if someone could send that to me! rokofages75@dreamers-sanctuary.com
Besides Mare, who else needs me to send them In Your Arms and/or Take Care? Give me your email if I don't have it already. (I have yours, Mare.)

I'm liking Light On! Much better than Hot Hot Hot LOL. I like it better than In Your Arms too.
-
I've just sent it, but just seen that Mare's sent it too lol
-
Thanks, Steph! Did you get both In Your Arms and Take Care, or do you need me to send one or both of them?
-
Are you working on your rankings, Mare? LOL
-
I just need In Your Arms please, thanks :)

Well I'm on my third listen of Take Care and it's a bit of a weird song, that's for sure. It's got it's really good parts and then some of it just seems like it should be in another song!
-
I just need In Your Arms please, thanks :)
Sure! What's your email?
-
Never mind, I got your email, Steph! Sending it now!
-
Are you working on your rankings, Mare? LOL
Yup lol
-
I'm trying to make my list in order, but it's hard! This may change too as my taste varies from day to day lol
1. Make Believe
2. Soldier
3. Try
4. Light On
5. In A World Like This
6. Show Em What You're Made Of
7. Love Somebody
8. Take Care
9. Feels Like Home
10. One Phone Call
11. Trust Me
12. Permanent Stain
13. Breathe
14. Madeleine
15. Hot Hot Hot
-
I'm quite liking In Your Arms and I'm only halfway through it so far :)
-
You all know how much I love this album. It's seriously the one I've been waiting for ever since I became a full fledged fan. I loved Never Gone and Millennium (way after the fact lol) but this one just seems like them. Maybe it's because they wrote most of the songs themselves, but it just does have a very personal feel.
1) Madeleine - Okay seriously! This is the song I have been trying to will them to write since I fell in love with them. Something simple, acoustic and harmonic. No flashy stupid loopy tracks, nothing to dance to. Just them being them! LOVE!!! I hope they release this as a single!
2) Soldier - This song is just catchy and bouncy. A great little pop song, but not overly cheesy pop.
3) Breathe - I really didn't like this one at first. I hated the beginning. But on second listen, I became a fan (Except the beginning. I still don't like the beginning LOL) Love the harmonies in this one! Also mega enjoy the chorus!
3) Show 'Em - I admit I think I love this one more because of the back story than the actual song. Call me sentimental but yeah. I do absolutely love the do do doos in this one! It reminds me of the classic song, "Sing a song." I wonder if they used that as their inspiration. I'm sure Kevin knew that one!
3) Trust Me - How can anyone not like this song? It's just fun!! Again I love how simple it is. Nothing flashy at all.
4) Make Believe - This was another one I didn't really enjoy on first listen but I love it now. It reminds me of that song Fireflies. Another great, simple pop song!
4) Love Somebody - I know a lot of people don't like this one but it just reads like a love letter to Lauren and I can't help but love that! Maybe because Nick's happiness is infectious but who knows. I just smile the whole time I'm listening to it.
5) Permanent Stain - Talked about it a lot but you can really tell how much I love this album if this one is way down here and I LOVE this song! LOL
5) In a World Like This - ditto!
6) Feels Like Home - This one is a bit hokey for my taste. I love the chorus but I'm not a big fan of the 'let's just list things' songs and I don't really like the country vibe, but still I do like the song! LOL It's catchy! I really don't like the beginning at all though. Whoever is singing the beginning (Kevin maybe?) Is trying too hard to sound country!
7) Try - Like I said before I hated this one when I heard the initial snippet. Gladly it wasn't quite as R&B as I thought it was going to be. I do like the simplicity of it, but it was missing something...ye ah the other four! LOL I felt the same way about the one only Nick sang on Millennium. If they were in Try a little more and there were more harmonies, I would really love it.
8) Light on - This one is a good pop song but it does remind me of that song they did with NKOTB which I was not a fan of.
8) In Your Arms - I liked this one but I have to hear it a little more before I really judge it.
9) One Phone Call - This one is their old school pop song, which is why I don't like it. I hated their earlier stuff to the point where I used to make fun of them! This is definitely the kind of song I would be mocking if I weren't a fan. Howie... *shakes head* LOL
9) Take Care - I have only listened to it twice but it's already growing on me. In a weird way. I like the I's but think the you's are dumb! LOL!! It's really all over the place. The bipolar song.
10) hot hot hot (mess!) That's pretty much all I have to say about that one!
So there ya go! That's my take!
I love them and am so very happy with this! I can't wait until I can buy it and read the liner notes and read the lyrics as I listen!
-
I'm still waiting for my actual CD to arrive :( I'm not impressed with Amazon at all! Usually when I pre-order stuff from them, it's here the day of release, so I don't know what's happening with my CD. They've done this to me once before with one of the Twilight DVDs. I'm tempted to just pop down to my local supermarket and pick it up, but I know it'll arrive from Amazon and I'll have two then, grrrrrrrrr!
So glad I've got the download version though, but I really want my CD to read the notes and see the pictures :)
-
That sucks, Steph! Usually Amazon is pretty reliable! I would have pre-ordered through them, but I wanted to be able to go out and get it myself instead of having to wait for the package to come. Believe me, I was tempted to run out to Walmart at midnight so I could get it 8 hours earlier, but I made myself wait until Target opened in the morning.
I like the look of the album jacket. The picture on the back of the CD of them lying in the middle of the road like roadkill cracks me up... I can't wait for an excuse to photoshop it with lots of blood and gore! Need a banner for your bus crash story, Tracy? LOL
-
I have only listened to it all the way through twice (and one of those times I was working so only half listening) so my opinions might change!
I think it might have been a mistake to listen to this on my way to work though, because I usually need to listen to very upbeat music in the morning to wake me up LOL.
In A World Like This - Love it, have loved it the whole time. The chorus has that "Backstreet hook" that I feel has been missing from their music ever since Black and Blue.
Permanent Stain - So upbeat, such high energy. I have played this one to death because I had it from the Ticketmaster download.
Breathe - I like this song but I'm not in love with it. The chorus is catchy but that's about all for me.
Madeline - I love the lyrics to this song and I love the way Nick sounds in it. It comes from such a real, raw place but I didn't find it overly catchy.
Show 'Em What You're Made Of - Like with Madeline I love the lyrics to this and the boys sound wonderful on it. I found the chorus a bit more catchy than Madeline and I think it will grow on me more in future listens!
Make Believe - This song didn't hook me at first but I went back and listened to it a few more times and it's definitely becoming a favourite! Also, it's giving me the writing push that I was hoping to get from this album, lol.
Try - I listened to this song twice and I can't even remember how it goes lol. Will need to give it a few more tries but I think I'm going with the majority on this one, it'll likely become a skip song.
Trust Me - I loved the clip of this I heard at the fan event and I still really enjoy it!
Love Somebody - This is really classy and more the type of song that I think of when I think of BSB. Aside from the whole silly caveman line LOL. However, BSB would not be BSB without some kind of cheesy line so I can forgive it and even appreciate it a little :P
One Phone Call - I liked this on the first listen but it didn't grow on me. I'll probably need to give it another chance.
Feels Like Home - Fully admitting that I was laughing to myself the first time I heard this one. It gets catchier as the song goes on, but that first verse... talk about country twang LOL Kevin! Good lord. I do really like it though.
Solider - LOVE! Love love love love. I love it. I knew I would love it from the fan event clip, but I love it even more. It's so catchy and I've been singing it in my head all day.
Hot, Hot, Hot - The first verse is okay, and I was sort of wondering why everyone was making fun of it so much. Then I got to the chorus... mocking warranted. LOL this song is ridiculous. It's like the PDA of this album.
As a whole I really appreciate what they did with this album and you can tell that they really put a lot of themselves into it. It's anything but generic and finally they've had a chance to create something that is truly them. Whether I liked all of the songs is irrelevant in that regard - this album was their baby and it shows.
(Also I haven't heard In Your Arms, Take Care and Light On, so if anyone has them and wouldn't mind sending them over to sakabelle@gmail.com I would be eternally grateful :) )
-
I'm sending them to you right now, Steph!
Make Believe - This song didn't hook me at first but I went back and listened to it a few more times and it's definitely becoming a favourite! Also, it's giving me the writing push that I was hoping to get from this album, lol.
I am the same way with this song! I liked it on the first listen, but didn't LOVE it, but now that I've listened to it a few more times and looked at the lyrics, I can see why so many people are putting it as one of their favorites. I'm liking it more and more! And it struck a fanfic chord in me as well! I really like the lyrics.
-
Would you like me to email it to you? If you pm me your email address I will gladly do that! or for anyone else who is looking for that.
I am missing IN Your Arms, I think. The bonus one from Target?
You can send me Take Care or whatever others you have if you don't mind :)
-
I think my biggest issue with this album is that it's so mellow. I don't listen to any of their ballads and those parts during the shows are painfully boring for me. I'm really not a ballad person, I do most of my music listening when I'm at the gym or driving so I prefer things more upbeat and this album is lacking a lot of that for me. I'll do a proper song-by-song review once I'm not on my iPad!
-
There are a couple that will be OK for the gym :) I need upbeat stuff for the gym too, it makes me work harder.

Yes for sure! The songs that I enjoy, I really love - which is good! :)

That makes sense. I like a good mix of upbeat songs and ballads, but while the good uptempos are the ones I tend to get addicted to, the good ballads are the ones that tend to become my long-time favorites. The quality of the ballads on a BSB album is really what determines how much I like the album. I tend to favor the ones with lots of good ballads over the ones without. I love the ballads on this album; some of them are pretty mellow, but with the exception of Try, I don't think they're boring.
That said, there won't be as many songs off this album that make my workout playlist as, say, I'm Taking Off.

I'm a ballad fan too. While I love the uptempos for when I'm doing houseworks and such, ballads are the ones that I keep listening to over and over again. Like "Take Care".
-
I might be ready to try ranking them now. Let's see!
1. Soldier
2. Show 'Em What You're Made Of
3. In a World Like This
4. Madeleine
5. Take Care
6. Make Believe
7. One Phone Call
8. Love Somebody
9. Breathe
10. Feels Like Home
11. Trust Me
12. Light On
13. Permanent Stain
14. In Your Arms
15. Hot, Hot, Hot
16. Try
Okay, when I started making this list, I had the first seven songs tied for first place LMAO. It was so hard to rank them! Much easier to start at the bottom and work my way up. And the fact that Feels Like Home, which I've been in love with for the last two weeks, is only in 10th place just shows how much I LOVE this album!
-
I'm a ballad fan too. While I love the uptempos for when I'm doing houseworks and such, ballads are the ones that I keep listening to over and over again. Like "Take Care".
I'm looking forward to cleaning my apartment sometime today or tomorrow now that I've got some good cleaning music! I already did some baking with the bananas that were rotting on my counter while I was listening.
-
I think we should probably do this like every week because I think they will change.
For now mine is:
1. Take Care
2. Breathe
3. Soldier
4. One Phone Call
5. Light On
6. In A World Like This
7. Trust Me
8. Show Them
9. Try
10. Madeline
11. Make Believe
12. Feels Like Home
13. Love Somebody
14. Hot, Hot, Hot
15. In Your Arms
16. Permanent Stain
-
LOL I agree, they probably will!
I'm enjoying reading everyone's rankings; it's interesting to see which songs are near the top or bottom of everyone's list and which are completely different!
-
I already moved Take Care up above One Phone Call! LOL
I like the vibe of it. The lyrics are nice but they don't go with the rhythm of the song. I hate when songs do that but what I do love is the music under the repeat of the chorus. It feels like the song is a reject from Prince of Egypt! LOL it has that should be in a musical type feel to it.
I think you are right though, Cinzia. I can see my list morphing a bit the more I listen and songs get more defined instead of having a bunch of 2nd places and third places etc...
-
I know I'm having fun seeing that too. It does make sense that the people who like to work out also like the faster stuff where my sloth like self loves the mellow, acoustic stuff.
I am looking forward to cleaning to it tomorrow. I have already played lots of Candy Crush while listening! LOL
-
The album is not released here yet and I'm trying not to listen in you tube. But I might give up and try cause I'm curious now. I have no idea what the whole fandom is talking about.

Take Care does sound like something from a movie! There's just a certain drama to it, and the fact that it's so different from verse to chorus, I could see it changing to accompany what's happening in the scene. I am already imagining some for fanfics LOL.

Aww, when does it come out there? Here I thought I was one of the last to get it! I feel your frustration; that's how I've felt for the last week!

As I said on Twitter, I'm in loop with it and I've already written two pages of a story.
-
I can't focus enough to write anything yet, but it might actually fit very nicely with this Nowie story I've got going.
-
Why was AJ sitting on a floor of a store eating like a king? LOL
-
^a friend called Virgin Megastore to check and they said they have no info about the album in their system. They advised to call back again in TWO DAYS! Ugh! I still have to wait two freaking days, and that's no guarantee. :(
-
This would be a good challenge, finding some of the sillier lyrics on this album and having to come up with a ficlet about it. LOL
-

-
LOL
hot hot hot hot hot hot hot
-
I wish they would release One Phone Call as a single if only so they could make a cheesy boyband-style music video with them singing in a jail in prison stripes. I can just picture it now, and it's fantastically cheesy in my mind.
-
LOL
hot hot hot hot hot hot hot
You know, that song really isn't bad until it gets to that part. Every time it comes on, I find myself kinda grooving to it, and then I'm like, "Oh wait, this is Hot Hot Hot." Did they really have to go there? Ugh, boys!
-
LOL
hot hot hot hot hot hot hot
This calls Brian and Nick for me. LOL
-

I think I can download it from itunes. I just want the physical album. It sucks being here, I'm pretty sure friends back home has their copies already.
-
This calls Brian and Nick for me. LOL
They are definitely hot hot hot hot HOT!
-
I'm in love with the lyrics to Love Somebody LOL. Nick comes up with such CUTE lyrics! I heart him.
-
Aww! :( Can you order it online, or is the shipping too expensive?
I think the shipping fee is reasonable. I just havent ordered an album online before. I think I'll just wait patiently for the release of the album here.
Take Care is not on you tube. Made me feel more depressed.
-

I agree. Hot hot hot also bypassed One Phone Call which is sitting firmly on the bottom now all alone. LOL
And please no to that as a single! Maybe they can just make a cheesy video of that for our enjoyment alone!
-
Also, I still can't get over hearing Kevin's voice on this album. Every time he has a solo, I squee a little inside. I have never been more of a Kevin fan than I am now; Kevin used to be my least favorite!
-
They are definitely hot hot hot hot HOT!
Brian: "Nick, you're hot."
Nick: "Brian, you're hot too."
Brian: "No, Nick, you're really hot hot."
Nick: "I know, you are really hot hot too."
LOL

If you're able to order through Amazon, they are very reliable and usually ship fast, but that's here in the States - I'm not sure how long it would take to get to you. Hopefully the stores will have it soon!
I can send you Take Care if you want!
-

Aww, poor One Phone Call!
I was thinking after I posted that, even if they DID make it a single, the video would probably just be them standing alone in a field. Because that's what they did with Helpless When She Smiles, which had SUCH potential to be a great, dramatic video! Ugh, I'm still pissed about that. I only watched that video a total of once.
-
I sent it to you, Ritz!

This album just shows how completely under utilized he has been all these years! I give him credit just sitting back for all the albums he did. He sounds fantastic! Yay Kevin!

Yes he does! He originally was one of the leads until Brian joined, and then he got pushed into the back... so I guess it's kind of fitting now that the roles have reversed, as much as it kills me to say so. At least Brian can play guitar? LOL :(
-
I sent it to you, Ritz!
Thank you very much, Julie!

yes, how they say pork is the new white meat. Kevin is the new Brian. LOL
But Brian still rocks his ad libs though, so good for him! And yes, there always is the guitar too which I am also loving. I think I'm smelling an acoustic set for this tour I will not get to see! :(
-
Thank you very much, Julie!

That's why I'm not disappointed by this album. They let him shine with his ad libs so I'm happy.

I am pleased with Brian's parts on this album. I set my expectations low, so I was happy to hear him sing a few solos, and he sounds great with the ad libs. And he will still be eye candy on the stage, whether he's singing or not. :)
Aww, I wish you could go! I wish tickets weren't so ridiculously expensive for this tour. I wish EVERYTHING wasn't so ridiculously expensive for this tour! No one outside of the fandom can ever know how much I have spent on the freaking Backstreet Boys this summer!

I know! They are a bit ridiculous but even if I had money, they aren't really going to be all that close to me anyway. Well yeah they are but we'll pretend since technically I'd have to travel to Jersey I think. LOL
-
Julie and Mare, Thank you very, very much! It's 12:46 am here and if I don't post on the next hour, the boys put me to sleep! I love you, Ladies. :)
-
You're welcome! just sending the last part now! :)
-
One of the greatest things about this album is that I'm having trouble picking a clear favorite! I've never had that happen with a BSB album before! I put this one up there with Millennium. If they were as mainstream today as they were when that album was released, I think this one would be HUGE. So, to join in on the fun, here are (approximate) rankings, and a few comments on the ones I feel like commenting on :)
1.) Trust Me- This is the first song I heard from the anniversary event that I went around singing all the time. I think it's just so classic and catchy, and other than the whole "sweet sexy babies" thing, I love the lyrics. WTF is a sexy baby, anyway? If it weren't for that, this one might be a very clear favorte.
2.) Madeleine- I really didn't care for this one at all the first time I heard it, and here I am ranking it #2. I like how simplistic it is, and I think we've all been Madeleine at one point or another. Oh, and Nick is just awesome in this one.
3.) Breathe- I like the 80's power ballad vibe it has going on. Kind of sounds like the type of song you might have heard on the soundtrack of The Wedding Singer or something. I'm really a ballad girl at heart.
4.) Feels Like Home- It's a little hokey, but well, I LOVE that the first verse is about Kentucky girls...lol.
5.) Love Somebody- fun track.
6.) Show 'Em What You're Made Of- so sweet. Every time I hear this song, I think of Kevin crying.
7.) Soldier
8.) Make Believe
9.) Permanent Stain- I've made fun of the title (apparently that was a big "Let's tell a story" fail), but I actually really like the song. I can't imagine the words any other way, either.
10.) In A World Like This- I like this one, too, but I don't LOVE it. I think it's a good first single choice, but their single releases have almost never been in my top three or so favorite songs from an album.
11.) One Phone Call
12.) Try
13.) Take Care
14.) In Your Arms
15.) Hot, hot, hot- This may be the first time ever that I agree with the songs that made it on the actual track listing vs. those that didn't. Don't particularly care for any of the bonus tracks, though I can kind of see Take Care growing on me.
-

LMAO Emily, "sweet sexy babies" made me laugh so hard! Think about that, AJ... are you calling your daughter sexy??
-
One of the greatest things about this album is that I'm having trouble picking a clear favorite! I've never had that happen with a BSB album before! I put this one up there with Millennium.
I know, right?! I don't always have one clear favorite right away, but I usually have a group of maybe 3-4 standouts. On this one, like I said, I had SEVEN! Half the album! And the other half of the album isn't bad by any means. It is definitely going to be along the lines of Millennium and Never Gone, both of which I can listen to all the way through without skipping any songs (okay, sometimes Poster Girl on NG). I don't love every track on either of those albums, but they're all at least likable, whereas the other albums all have songs I really love and songs I skip every time. Only time will tell how it actually compares to my other favorite albums. I have a certain amount of nostalgia attached to Millennium and Never Gone because those were also two of my favorite eras in the Boys' career, but I think I'm going to feel the same way about this one.
-
LMAO Emily, "sweet sexy babies" made me laugh so hard! Think about that, AJ... are you calling your daughter sexy??
I hope not! lol
-
Ditto to what you both said, Julie and Emily! All I've done is listen to this album nonstop today and like I said before I NEVER do that! Like EVER! Just for the first time all day I skipped two songs. Try and One Phone Call but that's only after about the tenth listen! LOL
-
I'm approaching my 8th hour of listening to it. I did bake some banana brownies, cleaned my kitchen, and vacuumed, but otherwise I have basically been sitting here on my computer listening and talking about it all day LOL.
-
Same here but only substitute baking for grocery shopping. :)
I did just finally shut it off though. I might take a little Breaking Bad break since I only have two episodes left to be all caught up! LOL
-
Okay revised after listening to this thing all day long! LOL
1)Madeline
2) Soldier
3) Breathe
4) Trust Me
5) Show Em'
6) Take Care
7) Love Somebody
8) Make Believe
9) Permanent Stain
10) In a World Like This
11) Feels Like Home
12) Light On
13) In Your Arms
14) Hot Hot Hot
15) Try (Have skipped the last few listens)
16) One Phone Call (same!)
-
Yay! I love all the love in here!
God, I have no idea how to rank them but I'll try LOL.
1. Make Believe - I don't know why I love this song so much but there's just this feeling to it that I can't get enough of. I see myself someday writing some out there story because of this song LOL.
2. Try - I wish it wasn't just AJ but I can sort of see why it was. They said themselves he did so amazing they let him just keep going lol. Which is good! I love the soulful vibe to it.
3. Breathe - Kevin man, just...where has he been? Because I love him on this record.
4. Love Somebody - This song is adorable. Like you Mare I have a feeling this song is totally for Lauren and it's so freaking happy and cute. Even with the caveman line lol.
5. Feels Like Home - This song gets me dancing around the house lol. And I love southern Kevin!
6. Show Em What You're Made Of - this song is just...epic. The subject matter especially, I love that they got so personal.
7. In A World Like This - classic Backstreet.
8. Madeleine - This song is incredibly touching. I'll be honest from rank 3-8 they were all tying and I was having a hard time separating them.
9. Soilder - I'm addicted to this song. How is this number 9? LOL. See signs I'm in love with this record. It's catchy and upbeat.
10. Permanent Stain - I always got a Beach Boys vibe from this (especially the acapella performances) but it always reminded me too much of ICTA lol. But it's still good.
11. Trust Me - I love the folksy feeling and it's definitely a song that stays in my head. But it reminds me a lot of Evergreen too lol.
12. Light On - I don't get why this song is a bonus. The others I agreed with but not this one. This is one of those instantly addictive songs and it's got a weird lil 80s vibe for it I like. But even so it's towards the bottom so.... lol
13. One Phone Call - It's good but this ranking may change later.
14. Take Care - It's weird but in a good way? This might change too.
15. Hot Hot Hot - simply put it deserves ALL the mocking it gets.
-
One Phone Call is still at the bottom, huh Mare? LOL I love that song!! I thought about moving it higher on my list, but then whenever one of the ones above it comes on, I'm like, "No, I love this song too much!" I love them all! Even Try makes me bob my head along to it, even if it's boring. There are no ear-bleeders for me on this album.
-
^ If I could remove it from the list entirely I would LOL
-
I have been listening to it all evening! Here are my rankings, subject to change of course.
1. Soldier
2. Feels Like Home
3. Make Believe
4. Show 'Em What You're Made Of
5. In A World Like This
6. In Your Arms
7. Love Somebody
8. Trust Me
9. Madeline
10. Breathe
11. Light On
12. One Phone Call
13. Hot, Hot, Hot
14. Take Care
15. Try
That was really difficult! Honestly all of the songs are really growing on my with every listen. Except for Try. My brain doesn't even register that song when it's playing LOL
-
Seriously! I wanna change up my rankings already cause too many of them tie. There's seriously no skip songs for me.
-
My top five right now are:
1. Soldier
2. Show 'Em
3. Take Care
4. Make Believe
5. One Phone Call
I do think In a World Like This and Madeleine will rank somewhere up there when the novelty wears off of the songs I hadn't heard before today, which is why I put them so high in my original ranking, but I'm not really listening to them anymore today. I'm not listening to the actual CD anymore; I made a playlist of it plus the bonus tracks so I could rearrange them into this order.
-
I got distracted and haven't listened since this morning. I'm about to put it on again so I can compile my list in the morning :)
-
Woke up with still "Take Care" in my mind. Let's see today how many times I will listen to it. LOL
-
Take Care wasn't on my list before because I hadn't heard it, now I'd have to say it's near the top :)
-
Yay! Everyone's jumping on the Take Care bandwagon! :)
I woke up with Love Somebody in my head this morning.
-
LOL funny you should say that Julie because it was in my head when I woke up too!!
Oh, and my CD finally arrived from Amazon, two days late but at least I have it now :)
-
Funny! Whenever I would stop playing the album yesterday, the songs that would get in my head were not the ones I ranked at the top of my list, but songs like Trust Me and In Your Arms. I guess that just goes to show how catchy the whole album is!
I'm glad your CD finally came!
-
I love Love Somebody! And Take Care is so odd I enjoy that one too! I had a feeling I would. For me though, if I listen to the lyrics I like it less! It's more the weirdness of the chorus and production that I enjoy. I still feel like the words do not go with the melody they wrote. LOL
-
Take Care is just amazing. LOL
Can I ask if someone could write me down the lyrics? I still can't understand what Howie says aside the "I take care of you". ;D
-
I would probably get the lyrics wrong Cinzia :D
-

:D :D I don't think Howie is singing "I know that in your delicate..."

I've got them! I went through the liner notes and tried to type them all up yesterday because the text is super small in the liner notes and it was hard to read! Apologies for any typos.
I, I’ve waited all my life
To step out from the light
And see the shadows fading
You, you’ve always stood so tall
I never thought you’d fall
But now it’s you that’s fading
I know that inside you’re delicate
Though you say that
You don’t need someone
To take care of you
But I…
Take care of
You…
Take care of
I…
Take care of you
You…
Take care of me
So you run
There’s no need to run
Stand up face to face
The stakes are high, but
We’ll reach higher
I won’t tell a soul if you cry
I can hold you while you cry, you know
I know that inside you’re delicate
Though you say that
You don’t need someone
To take care of you
But I…
Take care of
You…
Take care of
I…
Take care of you
You…
Take care of you
Take care of you
I know that inside you’re delicate
And I…
Take care of you
You…
Baby, baby
I… (I take care of you)
Take care of you
You… (I take care of, I take care of)
Take care of you

The songs lyrics aren't in my CD notes :(

OK I'M MAKING MY LIST. Everyone wait with baited breath.

The suspense is killing me!

The suspense is killing me!
Me too!

Alright, here goes my review of In A World Like This. Yesterday I was pretty hesitant about this album but I am happy to report that it's really starting to grow on me. There are songs that I really didn't care for on the first listen that now I'm starting to appreciate a bit more. I was telling Mare this morning that I really was upset when I didn't turn it on and think 'omg this is the single greatest record I've ever heard!' because I really had built it up that big in my head while waiting to hear it.
Now that I've listened a few times I realize that some of my lack of enthusiasm has less to do with the songs themselves and more to do with the order in which they play on the CD. My old boss used to always say I'd make a great radio program director because I'm really particular about the way songs flow into one another and I'm always the first to point out when songs just don't sound good next to one another. This morning, I intentionally listened to the album on random and liked some songs better. Weird, eh? Anyway, enough about my idiosyncrasies and on with the music!
In A World Like This - Perfect choice to open the album with. Aside from being the title track, it really is one of the strongest songs on the record. Super catchy, really fun and for the first time in a while... a really great choice for first single!
Permanent Stain - Admittedly, I always hear that Christmas song whenever PS starts and the title is questionable but I forget all that pretty quickly because it's such a great song. Really, any song that uses tubular bells ranks pretty high with me lol This is my #1 song on the album.
Breathe - This is one of the songs that I've changed my mind about it in the last 24 hours. I'm not big on the beginning, a production effect right off the top reminds me of bad 90's R&B... like most BSB ballads on the first record lol To make matters work the first verse is Kevin and... sigh... sorry... I just really don't like his voice. It's just so zzzzzzz.... sorry, did you say something? I was listening to Kevin sing and passed out. The chorus is absolutely lovely though and that quality has literally saved this song for me.
Madeleine - This song is trying really hard to be Coldplay's Green Eyes in my mind but falls short. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. It's nothing special to me, like something someone would perform at a high school coffee house. It's good though. I won't skip it.... too often. lol I don't feel like it belongs in the track 4 slot though, I think it would be better suited for closer to the end of the album.
Show 'Em (What You're Made Of) - Another song that I'm pretty neutral on. This is where I find I struggle with the song order. Tracks 3-7 are nearly all the same tempo, so I start to get bored when Breathe comes on and it just stretches through. I like this song well enough but I'll never go out of my way to put it on.
Make Believe - This song sounds exactly like something Nick would have written for himself. Stylistically, it's very similar to other songs he's written complete with stupid space references. I like it well enough, but I still find myself in the midst of a stretch of mid-tempo songs that are really not grabbing me at this point. I also find this song to be about a minute too long - did it really need to be 4:47 long?
Try - It's just not funny anymore and I want to take a nap. Eric Clapton rip-off, much? The guitar track couldn't be closer to Change The World without an accompanying lawsuit. AJ sounds great though and none of them would have sounded as good singing that track.
Trust Me - Trust Me was the perfect choice to come out of a song like Try. It really starts to bring the energy back up without being overwhelming. I just love this song and the guys sound great! Even Kevin, this song really suits his voice - I find I like him a lot more in this track - and Nick's falsetto is perfect.
Love Somebody - Now I'm right back into the record because again, perfect lineup choice because now the level/tempo of the album is building again at a really great pace. This is another song that I am a big fan of. It's a really cute song, lyrics-wise, despite it's touch of cheesiness.
One Phone Call - I wasn't sure about this song at first but I figured since Mare hates it then I should give it a chance because it was probably going to be my favourite. LOL Kidding. Seriously though, this was another song where the chorus totally saved it for me. It's such an ear worm. I've had it stuck in my head a couple of times now. I can see myself singing along with this song for a while to come.
Feels Like Home - Seriously? Yes, let's write another version of that stupid Girls in the USA song that Nick did for Now or Never and have AJ Kevin sing in a stupid southern accent right off the top. I really hate this song - it's all over the place. WOW, I hate songs that list of random rhyming cities/countries. I gave it a few tries but I really can't get through it anymore without glaring at my iPod lol
Soldier - This album needed a strong finish and Soldier delivers. What a great track - it's super fun and catchy. I can see myself putting this song on repeat, which is the ultimate compliment from me LOL
BONUS TRACKS
Hot Hot Hot - LOL Did anyone read the lyrics to this song before they decided to sing it? Every single time the song starts I don't recognize it and I think that I don't mind it so much and then the chorus starts and I remember how friggen RIDICULOUS it is! What the hell. Seriously. There was no better b-side to use as an iTunes bonus? Seriously? They can't use the word ass but Howie can say "you're the dessert I want to taste"? UGH. Kill me now.
In Your Arms - Why isn't this on the album? I seriously LOVE this song. It's what I would consider a "me song". It's exactly how I like my BSB - uptempo and fun. I will listen to this song a lot.
Light On - This is just a straight-up fun pop song. I like it! It's not going to change the fabric of the music industry but it's catchy enough. It's a good choice for a bonus track.
Take Care - This one took me a couple of listens before I was on board (quelle surprise!). It has bit of an alt-pop feel to it, very One Republic with a touch of Arcade Fire, and I genuinely enjoy the harmonies on this track. (lol I blame Steph for the fact that TWICE I typed Direction instead of Republic)
Next record they should release 100 songs and let the fans build their own record LOL Now for my rankings!
1. Permanent Stain
2. Soldier
3. Trust Me
4. In Your Arms
5. In A World Like This
6. Take Care
7. Love Somebody
8. One Phone Call
9. Light On
10. Show 'Em (What You're Made Of)
11. Make Believe
12. Breathe
13. Madeleine
14. Hot Hot Hot
15. Feels Like Home
16. Try

I only ever listen to an album once in order than I go random play! I always love not knowing what's coming next. It must be the suspense girl in me! LOL
-
I only ever listen to an album once in order than I go random play! I always love not knowing what's coming next. It must be the suspense girl in me! LOL
I will actually make my "random" playlists so that songs go well together LOL I can't handle a ballad going into a fast song or vice-versa :P My iPod is overflowing with playlists.
I even have a BSB playlist that I have sorted the songs from every album into the order I like them best.
-
I love how much love "Take Care" is getting. ;) ;)
-
I loved your review, Julilly! I think that is so interesting what you said about the order of songs affecting your opinion of it. I was going to ask you guys if anyone else had either rearranged the order on a playlist or just found themselves starting the CD on a track other than #1.
I made a playlist pretty quickly yesterday after ranking the songs so that the ones I like best play first... so that by the end of the playlist, if I'm getting bored with the songs I don't like as much, I can just skip right back up to the top! LOL
Today I put the actual CD back on, first in my bathroom so I could listen to it while I was in the shower, and then in my car. Both times, I decided to start on track #9, Love Somebody, and go through the end of the album first. I was the same way with Never Gone; I would always start at #8, Climbing the Walls, and listen to the end first because my three favorites, CtW, Beautiful Woman, and Siberia, were all at the end. This album reminds me a lot of NG in that way. The beginning is pretty good, the end is amazing, and the middle is kind of a snoozefest. I agree with Julilly that they probably should have moved the uptempos to the beginning and the slower songs to the end, more like the order of Millennium. Pretty much all of the boring songs on Millennium are at the end, as they should be LOL.
That said, the only snoozefest song for me on this album is Try; I adore all of the other slow songs, as well as the uptempos, so it doesn't really matter... I just find that I'm liking the end of the album the best right now.
-
Am I the only one who loves Try?
-
I think Rose liked it too, Steph LOL
-
Rose does love Try.
I think if Try had been on TIU, I might have liked it more. Compared to Bye Bye Love, PDA, and She's a Dream, it's a beautiful song! But on an album full of beautiful songs that are more pop and my speed, it falls short. Like I've said before, I think it would have fit better on AJ's solo album, and I might have liked it better on there, too. I wish he had saved it for himself. If they had put Just Kids on in place of Try, this album would be absolutely perfect for me.
-
Yes, I agree! It would be a stand out song if it was on TIU but so would hot hot hot! LOL
-
LMAO! Sad as it is, Hot Hot Hot is a less annoying song than the three TUI tracks I mentioned. Eh, maybe not PDA... it's about on the same level of PDA for me. PDA I could tolerate if I wasn't thinking and let it play on after Masquerade, whereas the other two, my finger would shoot out like a reflex to change the song on my car stereo LOL. I can listen to Hot Hot Hot without getting annoyed until it gets to the chorus, and then I'm like, "Oh yeah..."
-
I know, same here. I just start laughing at the hot hot hots now. I picture them playing a game of hot potato or something.
-
LMAO!!! Well, at least we have a new song to mock. Poor Shorty's gonna get jealous!
-
I think I've only listened to She's A Dream a few times, it's one of the worst songs ever!
-
LMAO!!! Well, at least we have a new song to mock. Poor Shorty's gonna get jealous!
I'm still mocking Nick and his cavemen. U.U
-
I can listen to Hot Hot Hot without getting annoyed until it gets to the chorus, and then I'm like, "Oh yeah..."
LOL Both Saka-Steph and I keep saying the same thing. I keep forgetting how stupid it is until the chorus starts.
-
She's A Dream isn't as bad as Treat Me Right. That's the one song on Unbreakable that I actually removed from my iPod so it wouldn't accidentally come on LOL
-
I don't remember that one!
I swear I don't know what it is about me and Unbreakable! lol
-
I don't mind Treat Me Right, it's one of my workout songs at the gym lol
-
I can honest to God say I can't name one single song off of Unbreakable unless I look at the CD LOL
-
I am the same way, Mare! The only ones on that one that stand out to me are Inconsolable and Unsuspecting Sunday Afternoon (my fave from that album, I believe). I don't even remember the rest of what's on there! Granted, this was around the time I left the fandom for a while. If music wasn't on the radio, I basically wasn't listening to it at the time. I'm so pumped to be back! ;D
-
More for me then! MUAHAHAH!
Does music work like that? :P
-
Feels Like Home - Seriously? Yes, let's write another version of that stupid Girls in the USA song that Nick did for Now or Never and have AJ sing in a stupid southern accent right off the top. I really hate this song - it's all over the place. WOW, I hate songs that list of random rhyming cities/countries. LOL it's funny you say that about AJ and the stupid southern accent because I hated that on my first listen and now I find myself really enjoying that part to the point where it bumps the song up on my list. I blame this on being raised in a very pro-country music family!
-

It's not that I even dislike that album. I loved Unsuspecting Sunday Afternoon! In fact I was hoping that would be this album's Madeline! But they only gave us like ten seconds of an a capella! I'm looking at the track listing and I really enjoyed most of the songs on that album except for Inconsolable, Helpless When She Smiles and Love Will Keep You Up all Night. Some of them I honestly don't remember like Treat Me Right and You Can Let Go lol Just for whatever reason, I forget that album even existed! Maybe that was my way of dealing with Kevin leaving? It was all a dream! Never happened!
-
I didn't even realize that was AJ at the beginning. I thought it was Kevin! LOL
-
I didn't even realize that was AJ at the beginning. I thought it was Kevin! LOL
I'm almost positive that's Kevin!
-
I felt like it was AJ but my judgement was biased by the fact that I read a review of the song that mentioned that it was AJ. It could be Kevin though... which REALLY does not help the song win any brownie points with me LOL
-
LOL. I read that article, and I was like "That's Kevin! Not AJ! Get your facts straight." At least he's not trying so hard on the twang if it's Kevin :D
-
They seem to keep getting all the guys wrong in those articles!
-
I totally can't pick out Kevin's voice and do it solely on process of elimination LOL not gonna lie.
-
I don't hear Kevin at all. Then again, I'd prefer to never hear it again so I'm cool for it to be anyone really LOL It's Steve, the forgotten sixth Backstreet Boy.
-
Well, in my story (see question of the day thread), it's Kevin :) They'll have to sing it live one day and solve the mystery.
-

haha yes!

So it's only been a few hours and I already feel like my list is changing lol Show 'Em is creeping its way into higher standing.

LOL that's what I love about this album, my songs keep changing order as well. I'm getting quite fond of Lights On now.
-
Light On is so freaking catchy lol.
-
Yes, it is!
-
I love the bridge of that song!
-
Well, in my story (see question of the day thread), it's Kevin :) They'll have to sing it live one day and solve the mystery.
I just listened through a pair of really good headphones and you Kevin lovers are some smart, it's totally Kevin! :)
-
I'm still mocking Nick and his cavemen. U.U
You know, the more I listen to that song, the more I love that line! I actually think there's something deep about it... I don't know if I'll be able to explain it in words, but to me it shows how timeless true love is. Love is such a basic human emotion that has been around since the dawn of mankind... and now that he truly "loves somebody," he gets it. He gets why people have been writing (or, you know, drawing LOL) about relationships and love forever. I don't think that was a very good explanation, but that's my take on it. Whether I'm overthinking it or not, it's a cute, creative lyric, and it makes me smile every time. :)
-
She's A Dream isn't as bad as Treat Me Right. That's the one song on Unbreakable that I actually removed from my iPod so it wouldn't accidentally come on LOL
Really?! OMG, I was OBSESSED with Treat Me Right when Unbreakable came out! That was one of my four favorites, for sure. I wouldn't put it in my top ten BSB songs now, but I still like it.
-
Yeah, that is totally Kevin singing at the beginning of Feels Like Home. It just sounds like a different Kevin from what we're used to because of that crazy Southern accent! I laughed so hard the first time I heard it, but I LOVE it!!! Say what you will about songs that just list things that rhyme, but I freaking love that song LOL. It's just fun!
-
So it's only been a few hours and I already feel like my list is changing lol Show 'Em is creeping its way into higher standing.
Yay Show 'Em!
I am still doing the thing where half the songs make me think they are my favorite thing ever while I'm listening to them, and then I move on to the next song and think the same thing about that one. I just LOVE this whole album!!! I know I'm in that honeymoon phase with it, but I don't remember any of the other albums being that way, where there were no clear cut favorites because every track was equally great. I mean, I do have my favorites, but there are like nine of them now, as opposed to three or four like normal LOL.
-
So what are some of your favorite moments of the album - not whole songs, but specific parts of songs? Like I tweeted yesterday, I love love LOVE AJ's part in Take Care that goes "I won't tell a soul if you cry. I can hold you while you cry, you know!" That whole second verse is epic.
I'm going to compile a list of my other favorite parts as I listen, because I know I will miss some otherwise!
-
Waiting for the day, I can run away with you...with you...
Like angels on fire we burn the sky
One kiss and we say goodbye
I just love that verse.
-
I love Howie singing about sipping Margaritas in Feels like Home, and I love the entire song of Trust Me :)
-
I'm going track by track with my favorite parts...
1. In a World Like This - It's hard to pick a favorite part of this song because I adore every moment of it, but my two favorite parts are the "free falling, free falling" parts and Brian's long high note that he holds over the chorus toward the end. ("In a world like THIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIS...")
2. Permanent Stain - Kevin's solo! "Wash away the tide..." Beautiful!!!
3. Breathe - This song is like In a World Like This, in that the whole thing is catchy, but I love Brian's ad libs at the end!
4. Madeleine - AJ's verse, especially "And wonder where the ships would go..." That part is just fun to sing! The fanfic writer in me also likes the part after that about writing it in a notebook, saying it would someday be a story to tell.
5. Show 'Em (What You're Made Of) - Kevin's verse! I like it lyrically, but I also love the passion you can hear in his voice. I think that is the point I started tearing up the first time I heard this. I just remember him tearing up as he talked about the inspiration behind this song at the fan event.
6. Make Believe - The whole "If we close our eyes, let our hearts collide, leave the world outside, leave it all behind" part that builds and adds in the harmonies. That is goosebumps-worthy beautiful!!!
7. Try - Right now my favorite part of this song is when it's over LOL.
8. Trust Me - My favorite parts of this song are the funny lines. "Take me to the disco, make me dance" and "Makin' sweet sexy babies." They make me giggle every time!
9. Love Somebody - I love the cavemen part, not only lyrically but harmonically as well. I also love the stanza about wearing his favorite jersey and knocking over her beer, especially when Nick adds, "You know I love you baby!"
10. One Phone Call - I love so many parts in this song, but the one I'm enjoying singing along to most right now would be "I'm gonna leave a message at the tone... begging pretty baby, please come home." I really love the subchorus (the "twenty-five to life" part) and Nick's part in the bridge, especially "But if you do... at least you knew..."
11. Feels Like Home - I love the first two verses of this song, both the Kentucky and Mexican parts - I couldn't wait until I had the lyrics down so I could sing along! My other favorite part is shouting "FREAK!" after the "dancing like a freak" line LOL.
12. Soldier - This whole song is catchy, but my favorite part is "But somebody shot you down, right in the middle of a war outside..."
And then, of course, there's the part from Take Care that I mentioned in my last post, which may be my favorite part of the entire CD! "I won't tell a soul if you cry; I can hold you while you cry, you know!" I love Kevin's verse before that part, too. "The stakes are high, but we'll reach higher!" And when they repeat the chorus with all the harmony added in underneath, it gives me goosebumps! LOVE!!!
-
I love Howie singing about sipping Margaritas in Feels like Home, and I love the entire song of Trust Me :)
The margaritas part is absolutely my favorite part of that song to sing along to!
-
Waiting for the day, I can run away with you...with you...
Like angels on fire we burn the sky
One kiss and we say goodbye
I just love that verse.
I'm so in love with the lyrics of that song!
-

That part is just amazing. It gets me every time. :( Another one is Nick's verse: "You've always stood so tall, never thought you'd fall but now it's you that's fading."
-
And Nick going "I take care of... I take care of..." (listening to that right now). I always love their adlibs over the chorus at the end of songs!

It's 8 am here... if I start listening to that song, I'll reach 100 times of listening by tonight. LOL
-
LMAO
-
LOL But, hey, I've almost finished a chapter so, at least, it is an inspirational song. LOL
-
I don't have Take Care....I was so lost til i figured out it must be a bonus song. Lol
-
Another mine favorite lyrics is from "Breathe":
And I never knew alone, wherever you are is home
-
You know, the more I listen to that song, the more I love that line! :)
I love that line, it's never bothered me! He probably just thinks cavemen are cool! Seriously, I think he's deeper than we give him credit for. Well then there's hot hot hot so... LOL
-
So what are some of your favorite moments of the album - not whole songs, but specific parts of songs? Like I tweeted yesterday, I love love LOVE AJ's part in Take Care that goes "I won't tell a soul if you cry. I can hold you while you cry, you know!" That whole second verse is epic.
I'm going to compile a list of my other favorite parts as I listen, because I know I will miss some otherwise!
I don't think I will be able to do this until I have the actual lyrics in front of me.
-
I do love the angels on fire part of Make Believe. Now there's a fanfic waiting to happen!
I'm sure I'll be able to come up with some upon one of the multiple listens I will have today! Except for Try and One Phone Call which should meld together on the CD since they meld together so well in this sentence: I will "Try" to make it through "One Phone Call" But If not I'l just "Make Believe!" LOL
-

That's amazing! :D :D
-
I don't know if I can come up with favourite parts for every song, but I'll name a few!
Make Believe - Like a lot of you, I'm in love with the angels on fire part. That lyric inspired me enough to start writing again. Literally as soon as I heard it my brain was like "Hey, remember that BSB fic you were working on? You should probably start writing it again as soon as you get to work." So I did lol
In A World Like This - The beginning of the chorus when they sing "In a world like this where some back down." Specifically the way they sing the word "back." The harmonies sound very classic BSB to me and it has a very Backstreet's Back/ Millennium vibe.
Feels Like Home - The southern beginning, which is apparently Kevin LOL. Whoever it is I'm in love with it! It's silly, but it's also something they've never done before which I appreciate. I also like Nick's part in the second verse where he sings "Where the party don't stop." He has so much power behind it and I picture him dancing like a fool every time I hear it LOL
Soldier - Like Julie said, the part where Nick sings "But somebody shot you down, right in the middle of a war outside..." is amaze! Love it.
Love Somebody - "I'm so in love I could die right now." just makes me giddy and grin every single time because I can just picture Nick being so happy while writing it. Also the silly caveman line LOL.
Hot, Hot, Hot - That "Brrr!" part after they talk about the ice cold bath or ice cold shower or whatever it is LOL. It's so ridiculous.
Show 'em - Nick singing "You find the truth in a child’s eyes when the only limit is the sky" Guh he's just so good, you guys! I cannot.
There are more but those are the ones that jumped to my mind right away. Also not surprisingly they are mostly Nick. Clearly I am a Nick whore, but you guys already knew this LOL. He just sounds so amazing on the album!!
-
I don't have Take Care....I was so lost til i figured out it must be a bonus song. Lol
I can send it to you; what's your email? You need to hear this song!

So cheesy lyrics aside, you really don't find One Phone Call irresistibly catchy?

I so hope they sing this song in concert just so Nick will do his Burning Up dance during that part! That is what I picture when he sings "Dancing like a freak" (FREAK!) LOL.
-
Not in the least! LOL
-
Confession: I love One Phone Call. ;D
-
I've decided the chorus to Love Somebody perfectly fits my reaction to this album and the great mood I've been in all week because of it. "You know that I... (whoo-hoo!) love somebody, love somebody. I'm so in love, I could die right now and be fine; I need you tonight." That somebody is the Backstreet Boys, and I love them and their album so much right now!!!
-
Confession: I love One Phone Call. ;D
I love it SO MUCH! If I were to re-do my rankings right now, I'd probably put it and Take Care at the top.
-
I agree about Love Somebody! That song represents the overall joy I feel about their album and them in general at the moment! Woohoo! lmao
-
I love it SO MUCH! If I were to re-do my rankings right now, I'd probably put it and Take Care at the top.
My top3 right now is:
1) Take Care
2) Breathe
3) One Phone Call/IAWLT
-
I have not listened to the album at all yet today! LOL
-
I can send it to you; what's your email? You need to hear this song!

-
I'll send it to you right now, Tracy since I'm here lol Just Take Care, right?
-
Today I'm in love with Soldier, Love Somebody and Take Care. I'm taking a little Madeline break LOL
-
...I actually have a new idea thanks to Make Believe but I'm not letting myself write it just yet LOL.
-
I'll send it to you right now, Tracy since I'm here lol Just Take Care, right?
Thanks, Mare - sorry, Tracy, I offered and then disappeared all day!
-
Kind of confused that iTunes has Hot hot hot and that it says Album only, but I bought the cd at Target and it doesn't have it on there. So does anyone have it? Anyone know why it's not on the cd?
-
I've just seen the new CD advertised on TV, I'm so happy to see that because I'm sure I never saw This Is Us advertised :)
-

LOL you're welcome. It didn't work for her though. Hopefully when she gets her internet back and running again.

"Hot, Hot, Hot" is the bonus track only for the Itunes Version. USA physical album has "In Your Arms" and "Take Care" as bonus track while Japan has "Light On".
-
I have to admit that hot hot hot is kind of growing on me. I really like everything except the hot hot hot part! LOL
-
Can I say that I'm so loving "hot, hot, hot"? :D Yes, they were drunk when they wrote it but it's fun, it makes me laugh and that's always a plus!
-
Yes, it's just a fun, silly song. Those hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hots though LOL
-
Also you'll be pleased to know that one Phone Call managed to claw its way past Try. So now Try is my least favorite! LOL

Every time it starts I like it. I like the kind of laid-back vibe it's got and then I start listening to the lyrics and they make me smile because they're so ridiculous. Hot Hot Hot is my new If You Want It To Be Good Girl LOL
-
LOL yes, the token stupid, but not overly horrible song.
-
There's bad and then there's so bad it's good LOL
-
I like Hot Hot Hot until the Hot Hot Hot part lol
-
I was watching the video of Madeline that Julie posted and my sister said she liked the song so I played her the album version and she really loved it. That's huge because my sister will purposely hate them because I like them! I also played her Hot Hot Hot and she liked it but when the chorus came on she said, and I have to quote this because it had me in tears from laughing, "Why the fuck are they panting?" LMAO
I love her!
-
The dog just laid down in the middle of the floor and I asked him, "Are you hot?" and couldn't stop myself from adding "hothothothotho t" afterwards lol
-
LOL

LMAO!
My friend Laureen's cousin came with us to the show in Chicago on Friday. She is not really a fan and only knows their old hits, so she hadn't heard any of the new stuff, but she loved Madeleine too! We need to spread the word about that song!
-

:bananapower: This is the perfect emoticon to describe how I feel about that LOL. I don't know why but that's such a perfect song for the cruise.
-
I have a confession to make...Hot Hot Hot has grown on me!
-
Me too! I get it stuck in my head often lol

Same here Steph lol, I found myself singing it earlier!

You know my twisted self has figured out a way to listen to One Phone Call without skipping it and that's all thanks to Brian and his line about carrying her head on his shoulders! It's clear he has decapitated someone and now he's in jail because of it and now he needs his one phone call! He wants her to come home but she can't because he hacked her to bits. LOL
-
yes, now I know a bunch of you are going to go listen to that song now to see if you hear it too! LOL

You should write it!!!!!!!

LMFAO!!!!! OMG, I love it! I agree with Cinzia; this needs to be a fanfic! Too bad that was Brian's solo and not Nick's; it would have made a great kill for Revenge of the Slaughtered.
-
LOL! You're welcome! Not my thing though!
Even though it's Brian's line they are all singing as one person, right? LOL
-
yes, now I know a bunch of you are going to go listen to that song now to see if you hear it too! LOL
I'm listening to it right now, and the image in my mind is disturbingly awesome.
I bet he LITERALLY went and broke her heart, too... as in stabbed her multiple times in the chest until it stopped working.
Why is the thought of the Backstreet Boys as homicidal maniacs so hot?? We are weird!
-
LOL! You're welcome! Not my thing though!
Even though it's Brian's line they are all singing as one person, right? LOL
True. Maybe they all took part in her murder.
-
I'm saying this for a long time, Brian is the perfect serial killer. No one would ever suspect about him. :D :D
-
This is true; he's too holy! He could think he's hearing the voice of God in his head, telling him to kill... This would fit well with our story about Brian being possessed by the devil, too.
-

LOL
Imagine his alibi for killing his girlfriend: "But it was God who told me to do it! She was evil!"
-
And maybe she was! If this was about, say, Nick and Paris Hilton, no one would blame him!
-
LOL Brian killed Paris Hilton because she was bad to Nick.
See? Perfect!
-

See? LOL It's about murder and their secret desire to kill people!
-
LMAO someone should bring that up at the sound check!
-
Congrats, Mare, I now can't listen to the beginning of One Phone Call without picturing Brian carrying a decapitated head dripping blood on his shoulder.
:bsb:
-
Then my job here is done! lmao
-
It just makes me love that song even more! Now I just need to see them sing it live, and my life will be complete.
-
I can now listen to the song because it has taken on a whole new meaning.
Maybe Howie has homicidal tendencies! I mean he's the one that wrote it! LOL cheesy, homicidal Howie!
-
Homicidal Howie is the best! He kind of has those crazy eyes; I'd believe it!
-
Okay after living with this album for over a week I am ready to say that I really like Hot Hot Hot now LOL
In fact the only song I still don't like at all is Try. It's the only one I'll hit skip for, but even then not always. Madeline is still my favorite.
-
LMAO! I am the same way... maybe not about liking Hot Hot Hot (but I don't hate it; it's entertaining), but I honestly love all of the songs, including bonus songs, except for Try. Try is still my skip, but I don't hate it either.
My mom and I roadtripped to IKEA yesterday (a 2+ hour drive), and I brought the CD along to listen to in the car. My mom is not a BSB fan, she's just tolerated them over the years out of love for me, but even she thought the album was good and showed a lot of growth. We listened to it three times before she took it out! I wish the guys would get more radio play because I think this is the kind of album that could get a lot of people on the BSB bandwagon. I actually did hear In a World Like This (the song) in Target tonight, AND they had the album re-stocked!
-
My sister liked most of the songs she heard as well! She even made it a point of telling me that without even asking her. LOL
I agree, I think this is one of those albums that if it was played for people without them knowing it was BSB, they would enjoy it. of course when they found out, the obligatory hating would have to occur! ::)
-
That is so sad, but true!
-
Okay after living with this album for over a week I am ready to say that I really like Hot Hot Hot now LOL
In fact the only song I still don't like at all is Try. It's the only one I'll hit skip for, but even then not always. Madeline is still my favorite.
Shockingly... ME TOO! I listened to the album over and over on the way to Ontario then on the drive through Detroit and the only song I skipped consistently was Try. I skipped Feels Like Home after the first couple of listens bc I was tired of it by then lol
-
Try = fail lol kind of ironic!
-
LMAO!
Try has become my only skip song at this point as well. Although I do only listen to the more upbeat ones on my walk to work, because otherwise it'll take me double the amount of time to get there lol.
I feel like you guys are right about this album, in that people would like it if they gave it a chance. Of course lots of people won't because of the BSB stigma, which is really sad because so many of the songs don't sound like what your "typical BSB" sounds like at all.
That being said, I did catch my boyfriend singing Soldier to himself the other day LOL.
-
Aww! He sounds like a keeper! LOL
-
I love Try, I must be the only one!
-
Now that the album's been out for a month, have your favorites changed?
Mare's going to roll her eyes at me, but my current favorite album track is One Phone Call! And of course Take Care is still right up there too. I literally have not listened to anything else but this album in my car in the last month, other than when I have a passenger who does not want to be tortured by Backstreet Boys on repeat; then I turn on the radio LOL.
-
::)
Just kidding lol I am still not a fan of One Phone Call but I don't hate it either. I'll even sing along with it now. The only one I still am not crazy about is Try, but even that one I'll sing along to (when I don't skip it)
I pretty much only listen to this album as well but not as frequently as I used to. It is my go to music. I love Madeline, it's the one song I tend to listen to more than once. I also enjoy Take Care. I know I never associate a song with fanfic but I picture the one I'm writing when I hear that song. Almost like it's a movie and that's the title track lol I'm also really loving Soldier, Trust Me, Love Somebody, Hot Hot Hot, yeah, pretty much everything.
-
I don't listen to the whole album, I've mixed it up with some other songs in a playlist but my favorities haven't changed in a month. "Breathe", "Take Care" and "Light On" are still in my top list and, I'm sorry Nick, "Love Somebody" is still the one that I change everytime it comes up. LOL I try but when the famous line comes, I start laughing and I have to stop it. :D :D
-
It's still playing daily in my car too, I don't skip any songs and my favourites are still the same, Make Believe, Soldier, Take Care, Try and In A World Like This. In the beginning I hated Hot Hot Hot, but now I love it :D
-
Don't throw tomatoes, but I'm getting a little burned out on this album-- simply because I've played it SO much, though! I will say that Take Care has definitely moved up the list for me, and love Somebody is my go-to "dance while I'm doing the dishes" song. Something I'm doing that's really fun right now is playing ALL my BSB albums. When some old high school friends and I went to the concert in Cincy, I got them all out, and that's all we listened to on the way there and back (a 3-hour drive one way). My faves are the "For the Fans" CDs from Burger King. My new car has a hard drive in it, so now all those songs are burned onto the hard drive. Now, all I have to do when I'm driving is go into the hard drive, select "Backstreet Boys" and randomize all the tracks. Fun! Oddly, IAWLT is listed under "No title," however. I wonder if that's because they're Indie for this album?
-
I'm the same way with listening to ALL the BSB albums, Emily! My new car has a USB port, so I can play my music off a flashdrive instead of having to use an mp3 player with a cord and whatnot. So I have all the BSB songs in a folder on a flash drive and can play them on random that way too - I love it!
-
My car isn't so fancy :( I have a 6 CD changer in the boot of the car which has a couple of BSB CDs and then some mixed stuff. So if I want to listen to all my BSB on shuffle, I have to use one of those crappy tape things with the wire on it and plug my ipod in that way.
-
I don't even have a CD player in my car. I have a cassette player lol
-
A few weeks ago, there was a little debate on the forum somewhere about who sings the first verse of "Feels Like Home". Answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5iVaUSF2zA I was right about the first verse, but for some reason I thought it was Nick on the second verse! I think this is the first time I've mixed those two up!
-
Aww I always knew that was Kevin and Howie. Brian doesn't sing on this one? LOL
Loved the Nick and Kevin bonding going on in that performance. More of that please! I love when they sing something new every once in awhile.
-
LOL I thought you were talking about the "Rock out in Bangkok..." part for a minute, and I was like, "What?! There is no way that is not Nick!!" But yeah, I could always tell that was Howie singing the "Farther South, where the sweet tequila flows..." part. I am usually pretty good at picking out their voices, although this song was definitely a stretch for them!
I'm glad they sang something different at soundcheck! Has anyone seen a video of them doing One Phone Call yet?
-
I was like "Man, sings a lot in this song!" Poor Howie....lol. Poor, forgotten Howie. I love him so much, though!
-
In honor of the third anniversary of In a World Like This, I'm resurrecting this thread from 2013 to ask your thoughts about the album that it's not "new" anymore.
How do you think IAWLT has held up over time? Where does it rank for you, compared to the Boys' other albums?
What are your favorite tracks now, and are they the same as your favorites when you first heard the album?
Feel free to discuss anything else too!
-
It's funny you mention this. On my six hour drive up to Buffalo, I listened to all my BSB albums minus the red one which I don't own. Just as an FYI, that got me within about twenty minutes to Buffalo! Anyway...liste ning to all of the songs, IAWLT and Millenium were still the two I found myself singing along to the most. All the songs I loved when it came out, I still loved and the only two songs I didn't really sing along to were Try and One Phone Call.
I also realized that my least favorite album is actually Black and Blue. I thought it was the one with that horrid PDA song. lol
-
BSB music is the best for road trips!
IAWLT is still my favorite of their albums, with Millennium as a close second, like you. I used to put Never Gone up there too, but I don't think its songs have stood the test of time as well as Millennium's for me. I think my least favorite album is still This is Us (with that horrid PDA song and the one about Shorty LOL). Black & Blue is in the bottom half of my list too, though. For as many good songs as there are on that album, there are also a lot of duds. That's how I feel about This is Us and Unbreakable, too.
Anyway, going back to IAWLT, the only skip song I have is still Try. I still love the rest of the songs, although I think my favorites have changed a little. I found my original rankings on p. 20 of this thread, and I had originally put Soldier and Show 'Em as my top 2. I still love both those songs, but now I'd probably say One Phone Call (sorry, Mare) and Take Care. The song In a World Like This would still be way up there; it will probably always be one of my favorite singles. Love Somebody would be higher on my list now than it was then; I think seeing them perform that one in concert made me love it twice as much.
I am ready for new music, though! Even though Nick has released two albums in two years, the last couple years have been pretty slow in terms of BSB. I'm feeling the lack of a tour this summer. I know they're working on it; I just wish they'd work a little faster!
