Title: Fanfic Favorites!
Post by: mare on February 17, 2009, 09:02:32 PM
Yay to bringing back some old discussions :)

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

I'm so excited to be talking about fanfic again! ;D

Well, I have a lot of favorites.... I think the most recent one I've enjoyed a lot is Mare's "Why I'd Do It All Again." I felt like it really captured the Boys during that time period. And it was just hilarious! She just has this amazing way of bringing out the Boys' personalities so that they are sooo believable! I also really enjoyed Rose's "Born to Be" because her descriptions are so vividly fantastic! Ummmm.... Kelly's "Whitmore Lake" is one of my favorites too, because I'm in it... lol But she has this fantastic way with characters. Julie's "Broken" because she puts so much research into her writing that it was so believable! I felt like I'd read a real life account of cancer after only the first fifty chapters!

I still need to read something by Julilly.... Julilly, what would you recommend? :)

Stories I'm most proud of? Probably PBox, just because it's extremely epic... I never thought I could write anything that epic like... ever.

I feel like I'm falling into writing less and less about the Boys... I love writing about them, just every plot I've liked recently would work much better as original fiction... So I guess that's my problem right now. Is anyone else having that issue?

I have a pretty solid top four all-time favorite fanfics, so I'll gush about those yet again LOL.  The first is "Cover Me With Dreams" by Heidi, which is posted on the AC Archive now.  It's the best Nick romance I've ever read, and it's different from most of the other Nick romances.  It tells the story of this beautiful relationship between the two main characters over more than a decade, and tells the story of Nick's real career along the way, which is also fun.  It's told in a unique way, not quite in chronological order, and it's very well-written.  The characters are vivid and likeable, and man, I could just gush all night about it!  LOL

Second fav is "Where Can We Go From Here?" by Whitney, which is the classic, original bus crash fic.  What can I say... it's just an all-around great, group fic that focuses on the brotherly relationship between the Boys as they try to help each other through this horrific tragedy they went through together.  It'll make you cry and make you laugh and give you that ooey, gooey Bsb love feeling.

Third is "Signal to Noise" by Bobbi, my favorite suspense fic.  It's a spin on the stalker fic, and it adds a romance element too, without taking away from the main mystery/suspense storyline.  All the guys are in it about equally, although Nick kind of stands out, and the original characters in it are great too, very dynamic and unique.

Last is "Faceless" by Jaydee, which I love because it's got something for everyone - drama, angst, suspense, romance, and a subplot for every boy, although Nick gets the main one.  It's an easy read and almost fairy-taleish, which makes it just an all-around entertaining little story.

As far as my stories go, I have to mention Broken and its sequel BMS, because I put my heart and soul and lots of TIME into those stories for five years of my life.  They were my babies!  I'm proud of the effort I put into them and the results that came out.  And I love the overall story... it's the kind of story I would enjoy reading if someone else were to write it, which is why I wrote it myself.

Also, my recent collaborations ... namely "00Carter."  I can only take credit for 1/7 of it, and it wasn't my idea, but I'm very proud of the ideas and parts I've contributed to it, as well as how well all of us have worked as a team on it.  I'm not known for my original ideas or creativity, but that story really brings it out of me in ways I can't seem to spark on my own - I thank my crazy, random co-authors and a lot of Code Red Mountain Dew for that LOL.  Anyway, I think it's a great story, really different from other stuff that's out there, and FUNNY, and I'm proud to be a part of it!

I'm also enjoying how my new collab, a.k.a. "4.15.12," is turning out, and I'm really excited for what it is to come in that one, but it's still very early on in the writing process, so I guess I can't say too much else right now!

So why do I write about the Backstreet Boys?  They're my favorite music group and favorite celebrities in general.  I'm dedicated to them in a way that I'm not to many other people or things.  I enjoyed reading about them when I first got into fanfic, and quickly got addicted, and that carried over into eventually writing about them.  My fandom hasn't changed in its level of dedication over the years, just maybe in its level of teenybopper craziness.  I became a fan when I was like 13, and now I'm 23, so it's a little different now LOL, but I'm still as much of a fan as I ever was.  As far as my writing goes, I'm a lot better at it than I used to be, and I'm still as into it as I ever was; I just don't have time to do it as much as I did these days, so I don't update as often anymore.  I would like to branch out into original fiction at some point, but for now, I'm really happy writing Bsb fics.  I've been writing more AUs lately, which feels like a bridge between fanfic and original fic, so we'll see.

Nope, I'm pretty patient in waiting for conclusions. :) I know it how hard it can be to get updates out. lol

Damn I was hoping you'd say yes so I could say I have nothing to offer you lol What I would pick and what others would pick I think are different so Hawk and a Handsaw is probably your best bet

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

"The Legend" by Whitney, I actually adore this story. It does feature Nsync but it's incredibly easy to ignore that flaw, but it is AU. It's very fantasy-ish and very sci-fi. The ideas are original and fantastic and all around well written. I reread that story to this day.

"The Answer Is Yes" - Another fantastically written sci-fi. I'm a sci-fi addict at heart, what can I say? It's well known about me. Eboni was just fabulous period, I was sad when she left the fanfic world. I'd recommend any of her stories honestly. But The Answer Is Yes is just a well written completely undone in BSB land fanfiction where Nick is basically upducted by aliens, and goes to his long, difficult journey.

Total Kaos 24/7 - I think this was one of the first Mare stories I've read. Early work, but hilarious. It's Nick's POV recalling the very early days on their road to stardom, and all the amusing troubles they had to do to get there. Written in older Nick and younger Nick's POV I'd still recommend it.

And then there's Finding Brotherhood by Mersey. This story, wow, I can't describe it. But it's basically the journey the boys have to take to find themselves and their realationships again. Weak description but trust me, the story is brilliant.

Here let me just give you the direct link. It's a must read.
http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/mersey/fb.html

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?

00Carter, who knew such a random thought I had would turn into such a great collab? I mean seriously, it took a life of it's own and it's original, funny, and I adore writing it with my coauthors and am extremely proud of the idea and story.

Born To Be - This story is my current solo baby. I haven't updated it in a bit, but I mean to. I just feel it's one of my better works, the imagery, the idea, and just the way I've gone about writing it. I love that story. It's my favorite to write out of all my solo stories right now.

Just Another Day - Simply because I realized I'm capable of producing a finished fluffy romance in 1st person lmao. I never thought I could and that story was a oh what the hell idea, and I went with it for the challenge I felt came with it. Who knew it'd work? lol. Not my best writing, but it's the fact I did it better than I ever thought I would.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

Because fanfiction is a great way to grow in writing. That and Nick makes a fabulous story character. Him and AJ. My fandom's affected my writing by the fact my writing has grown beyond teenydom thank god lol. I feel I've grown as a writer, and also as a fan. I don't obsess anymore. And I think it shows in my writing as well.

Oh and *squishy hugs Dee for her love of BTB*

I love H&H Julilly, but I still say Shadow Counsul if you ever updated it has the potential to be a far better story  ;D

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?
I am going to agree with whoever mentioned "Finding Brotherhood". That is a great story. I also really love Prevailing Fate, and Broken and By My Side. (I like the medical dramas.)

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?
I actually haven't ever written anything. I think about it sometimes, but I don't know if I'd be very good, or have the determination to finish it.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?
I read about the Backstreet Boys because they're my favorite. (lol isn't that everyone's reason?) I read a lot of fiction, but sometimes it's fun to read about people or characters from shows you love, so fan fiction is a guilty pleasure of mine.

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?
Well, I've still got a hell of a lot to read, so please don't think I've missed any fab stories on purpose here.......... ..

Ray of Hope by kevmylove.  I love the way it's written, it's written in a way in which you can really get into the story and understand the characters and feel what they feel, it keeps you wanting more.  It's fantastic :)

Sinister Devotion by kevmylove.  Again, I love the way it's written, the suspense, the action and the characters, it's also something completely different.  I can picture the story as I'm reading and it makes me want to read more.

Ground Zero by Chaos.  Only noticed this one a few days ago and finished reading last night.  What can I say, it is a fantastic story.  It had me crying, sitting on the edge of my seat in fear and suspense.  The way it's written is really descriptive and I could actually mentally picture everything that happened.

My Mind's Eye by your_ill_july.  Why do I love this one?  Well, it's the way it's written, it's so wonderfully written and the story line is a good one, the idea of Nick being trapped in this unhappy marriage and being a controlled househusband is a real turnaround from the usual kind of situation you read.

Life According To Baylee.  I'm really enjoying it, never thought I'd actually read a story centred around Baylee, but this story is something else, it's well written and has everything in it, in the right amounts.  Still not caught up yet though, but getting there.

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?
Some of mine are Patience (a Take That fanfic), Never Gone, If Tomorrow Never Comes and Rewind.  I'm proud of them because I hadn't written anything since leaving school and wasn't sure I could actually write anything decent, but I think they are OK.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?
I find myself writing about them because I love their music and them :)

Aw, thank you for the mention Steph  ;) I'm very happy you are enjoying my stories!

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

Searching For Mercy by Honey- It was a group story (although Kevin wasn't in it for too long *clears throat and gives Kelly the evil eye* J/K) It had just the right amount of detail, I was always anxious to find out what was happening next. The guys had pretty much the same personalities, but they lived totally different lives. Oh and it's full of twists...

The Thirteenth Step by Mare- From the first day I started reading this story, I was totally hooked. I was biting my nails, and even laughing out loud in the middle of the night. I was always anticipating updates and it was really well written.

Life According to Baylee- I love this story, because it's a clever storyline. I think it has a little of everything, it can make you feel sad, tear up, mad, and even have a good laugh with Baylee's adventures with his uncles and his best freinds. Another one I'm always anticipating updates from.

(I know I've read more, but these are the only ones I can think of right about now.)

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?

Sinister Devotion, I went out of my usual genre and i'm trying something new. Which I think I'm doing ok with. I haven't mastered the action parts, but I hope to get better.

Ray of Hope, I think that it's really different from the other stories that I have written. I've put a lot of work into it, and I have lived through some of the events the protagonist goes through.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

It comes easy to me, to use one of the guys as my main character in a story, as opposed to just making one up. I guess, because I've been a fan for so long they inspire me. I definately feel like my level of fandom has changed, I'm not the same, HUGE fan I was at some point, and at times I feel like I just want to quit fan fiction, but then...life would be pretty boring :drools: and I'd end up going

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

First one that stands out in my mind is Lucidity/Stupefied by Stacy, followed by Us Against the World of course. There are a lot of other great stories out there, like just about any of Mette's slash stories (never read her het stuff, but I hear it's amazing too). I lost my fic bookmarks a few years back and still haven't been able to find them all again.

Another great one is Complicate Me, by Kat B (I believe), which is AJ/Eminem and strangely enough it works!

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?
Despite it being in need of the mother of all rewrites, I still love my first real BSB slash story, which is the Nick & Brian Saga (Our Wicked Ways and What We Are, and the yet unfinished sequel Flight of the Phoenix). Other than that, The Thiery Chronicles, my Nick vampire/AU series. It's taking me forever to write it, but I love this story and universe so much, I wish I could get everything in my head out on paper (screen)! And lastly, The Truth Beneath the Rose, my Bittybang (lj challenge) story, where I proved to myself I could write 20k words in three months. It's AU again, and it's an AU I feel there will be more stories placed in, and I really want to develop the characters a whole lot more!

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?
Not really, although there are less slash writes now it seems. And it's less about BSB slash writes are popslash writes, so a whole new fandom has opened up in a way. But in general, my love for the boys and the main fandom people around me haven't changed much these past few years, and if anything, I've met new people and made new friends. And the amazing slash never ends! ;)

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

I have a lot of favorites. My first is the AJ and Tesia series Lenni wrote. My fav of that series in "Why Da SKy Boo?" Its so cute!

My other favorites include:
Ray of Hope and Sinister Devotion. They are both so well written and detailed. But I'm still waiting to see what happens in Ray of Hope. *hint hint*

My newest favorites are Looking for a Love Story and Once in a Blue Moon. Summer does an incredible job with description and they are both beautifully written.

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?
I'm most proud of Plus Size and Plus Size Part 2 as they were the first stories I ever wrote. When I posted the first chapter of Plus Size I was shocked and excited about the feedback I had received and continued to as I posted. I'm very proud of my lastest work, Mistakes Made .. Lessons Learned. I've really enjoyed writing this story and I love the reviews I've been receiving. Lastly the short story Understand, which was inspired by one of my favorite Christina Aguilera's Songs.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

I write about the boys because I've always enjoyed reading fanfiction for years and I've always had ideas swirling around in my head. So one day I decided what the hell, Let's see what happens when I post something. It hasn't affected my fandom. My age has. I still love them and listen to the music but I'm not as obsessed as I used to be. I guess you could say I've mellowed out. But I love writing and reading. I never was much of a writer in school, so to have people tell me they like what I've written means a lot to me.

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fan fics and what made them so special to you?

Time by Amanda. It was on bsbblvd.com years ago & by some small miracle, someone finally found it for me again. :) I just loved it, because it was a song fic & I could totally see it happening, & it made my heart wrench. :)

The Importance of Fly Fishing by Mare. I just love, love, LOVE this stories to pieces! [I'm sure the world knows this by now, as I've said it enough-lol] I love it because it seems so real, & so, I don't know, casual or something. It just - it makes me picture it all perfectly, & it jerks at my heart-strings, yet makes me laugh all at the same time. :)

The Day I Fall by Honey. I love it! This one seems super real too, & I totally feel for Nick! :) I just - totally LOVE it!!!!!!!

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?
Um....
Left Behind - I love this story, because I thought up an amazing plot-line for Hannah Montana & get to play with it all I want, since it's all mine. The fic idea, not the show - lol. God, I wish I owned the show - I could totally afford Disneyland then! Anyways, back on topic, I am also proud of this fic, because I write Jackson different than how he's portrayed in the show - I don't make him the dirty, bumbling idiot they make him out to be. I make him smart, & decent, insightful, & always ready to help his sisters [Riley at least] out whenever they need him to help.

A Forgotten Nightmare - I love this fic, because of how Daydream & I wrote it. To me, it's just a beautiful piece of TMNT fiction. Though, I am biased, since I co-wrote it & all - lol. But, I also am proud because we actually finished this one! We've so many fics on the go, & this is the only  finished piece. We haven't even finished the prequel or started the sequel to this fic - lol.

No Matter What - I'm proud of this story, because ForeverRebel & I have stuck with it, no matter what, just like the title says. No matter if we'd writer's block, or no one was reviewing, or whatever - we still stuck with it, & we're so close to the finish, we can smell it! Er - see it. I can't smell - lol. :)

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

I find I write them better now. I don't take fifty zillion cracks at Nick just for a laugh [though, I still manage to put a few in there - it's like breathing, I swear!] & my writing is so much better than what it used to be. :) And these days, I try to come up with something creative, & hopefully never been done. If it's been done already, well, maybe I can hopefully give it a different vibe or twist or whatever then - lol.

Really, Lenni? I didn't know that. Thanks though, I'm glad you like that one, I'm just surprised. Of all the fic of mine you've reviewed I didn't even realize you'd read The Day I Fall. Not many have. Nice to know it has a fan. (And makes me fell bad for never updating it.)  Thanks Lenni, that's sweet of you!

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

Geez, there are SOOO many!!! Hmmm...

Well, I am completely in love with Sinister Devotion. It an amazing storyline, and totally diferent than any other fan fic romance that I have read. I mean come on...how many romances have you read, where the guy falls in love with the girl, because he was hired to kill her, but didn't know she was the one he was supposed to kill...therefo re getting himself (and others) into majorly deep doo, because he broke one of the main rules about being an assasin? *sigh* Good story...gooooo ooood story!

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?

Erm...Life According to Baylee (LATB). This is, by far, the most complicated story I have written and it actually seems to be turning out ok. I'm proud, of it, because it's sort of an original storyline and also because of it's complexity. (There is so much going on that I lose track, sometimes, which is odd because my readers always seem to know what's going on, LOL.) I have also, somehow (no clue how), been able to halfway descently, create and support a seperate sub-story, within the main story, too - Brian's journal. The main plot is about Baylee dealing, with living under Nick's care, but, just like real life, there are so many other things going on, at the same time, that affect the relationship between them. It's sorta like an on-going daytime soap. LOL.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

I write about the Boys, just because I get a kick out of it. Being able to take them and twist their personalities, is so much fun! LOL. Um...as far as my fandom changing how I write...I guess a little. I mean, like someone else said...I'm not the same obsessed teen, with their posters covering my walls...I used to just write little stories with my friends and it was always the same thing...I ended up with AJ and they ended up with the Boy of their choice. Now, I'm not as much of a romance writer. I'm more into drama. *shrug*

"Anywhere For You" was the first BSB fan fic I ever read.  Actually, I didn't know fan fiction existed until I found that site and that story.  I'm sure I'd find flaws in it now, but my 14 year old self loved every word, that's my favorite BSB song, and it'll always be special for being the story that pulled me into the BSB FF world.

Also a story called "The Answer To Our Life."  This story was never finished (which killed me, because it stopped right at a crucial point in the story) and is nowhere to be found now... But I love the way Brian was portrayed.  His characteristic s seemed so realistic and the writing was great.  Also, the storyline sucked me in.

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?

"As Time Goes" was my first longer BSB fan fiction story.  I wrote it in high school, so there are typos and numerous flaws.  But it had my friends and I as characters (leading ladies for the BSB, of course. Ha), and the ones who are in it all read it.  I love it for the memories, and whenever I re-read it, the story always makes me smile.

More recently, I'm proud of "As Long As You Love Me," whichnI started writing it years ago with a different name.  I pulled out the notebook last year, typed and edited what I had, and got a cute story out of it.  It's what got me back into writing fan fiction writing again, since I didn't have the time in college.

And then I'm currently writing "The Frack and Frick Switch."  It's the first story that I've written as mainly a comedy genre; it's a nice challenge, and I'm just having a lot of fun with it.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

I can't picture myself writing any other kind of fan fiction besides BSB.  They are my favorite group, and I first started writing it to get used to having an audience.  I was completely shy about sharing any of my stories with anyone I knew.  I started writing the BSB ones, and it was less intimidating to have... random people over the internet read my work, if that makes sense.

As for my fandom, it's matured over the years, but it's also only grown.  I"ve been listening to their music for half my life, and the Boys, the fans, and Backstreet Land in general have become a huge part of my life.  I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Been reading it all along - even before you began the re-write! I remember how the first version was in the girl's point of view, & then you went back & decided to write it all in Nick's instead or something. :) I read pretty much all your stories! :) Sometimes, I just forget to review or can't remember if I have already or not - lol.

Hello I thought i would give my input :)

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

Well I have so many but I will my top four:

1: You'll never walk alone by Rokofages75 I remember I began to read this one and I couldn't stop till I finished so it instantly became a fave of mine.

2: Plus Size by Sapphire I just loved the new perspective on the type of girl AJ fell for in this story.

3: Little velvet box by Rokofages75 I just got shocked by its ending and to think I was mad at AJ at first till I read the ending.

4:Looking for a love story by summer I love the detail in this story and I can actually picture it happening as I read it...its good.

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?

Ok on this one I have to say I am most proud of:

1: My Mona Lisa because I really put my heart into that one not that I don't in the others but...I think I just really put so much into this one.

2: My Muse because I wanted it to be different and I think I actually accomplished that.

3: Seduction because I ventured out of only using AJ as my main character and I'm liking it so far.

and finally

5: Summer Romance because it's my first AU and I am having fun writing it because its different to all my other work.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

I began reading only and I enjoyed so many of the FF I read that I just had to try it. I really didn't like the whole posting it so other people could read it but now I like it and my writing hasn't really had any changes because I barely started so...maybe in a few years it will.  :)

I have a lot of favorites. My first is the AJ and Tesia series Lenni wrote. My fave of that series in "Why Da Sky Boo?" Its so cute!

Dude! I just caught this! I didn't think anyone even remembered my fics anymore, since I haven't updated anything in forever-lol. This totally just made my night!!!! And I swear, there IS more to that series, I just hafta figure it all out & write it yet. Oye vey.  Lol.

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

There are far too many to name so I will go with the one I remember the best,

Chances Are by Karah - I used to go on my confession all the time (I remembered she recently resurrected it hehe!) But this was one of my favorites just because it took the concept of online dating and kismet and all that fun stuff. It was interesting like You've Got Mail between a bsb'er and a country singer.

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?

I don't know if I'm most proud of any story I've written. The series (that I need to finish) is so complex and wasn't when I first started writing it and then evolved into this monster lol that has ten chapters left. If I really had to choose I would probably choose Will You Be.... Because, it's different than most stories I've written. I could have chosen any of the boys to use as the main character, but I thought with all the massive amounts of Nick fics out there he seems to be pigeonholed into certain scenarios and personality flaws. And with WYB I wanted and older, maturer, experienced character who was gentler and kinder than alot of people paint him as.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

I think my fan level has tapered off quite a bit, (hence the lack of updates I'm sure). I find myself wanting to write them as people than as the celebrity but with that side woven in marginally as well. I still read my old chapters to get caught up and sometimes cringe at the horrible writing. I've definitely grown as a writer. Grown into what exactly I do not know lol. (Probably am still horrendous but I am at least okay with that). And if Darby gets her wishes she can kick my ass into updating more often so I can finish the unfinished stories I have up. Which I would love to finish them it's finding time and inspiration that's hard.

First I have to say Teri...You avy rocks!!! All Hail puppet Angel.. I just watched Smile Time last night.  Hubby loves the Episode too. All night he kept yelling from the kitchen.."You're a bloody puppet!"  "They're looking at the wee pupper man!" lol

ok on subject!

So, what are some of your all time  favorite BSB fanfics and what made them so special to you?

There's really just one.  And Then What by Chandrah.  It has been around for a while but I just read it a month ago. I'm so glad I did to because the site Speaking In Tongue is offline now.  It was an amazing AJ story.  The portrayal of him at that time (I'm assuming) was pretty spot on.  The Characters were great. I hated that poor Professor that Shy fell for in the beginning.  I think he's name was David? no I can't remember. lol Anyways I hated him from the very get go.  The way she wrote him he just kind of pissed you off. lol

What are some of the stories you have written that you are the most proud of and why?

I have two.  TGC/Aurona.   I'm proud of them because those stories have turned a lot of NON AU readers into TGC/Aurona readers.  I play WOW lots of WOW. lol I love middle Earth and anything that's related to that.  So writing a story about Magic and Backstreet has been so much fun.

Why do you find yourself writing about the Backstreet Boys and as your level of fandom has changed over the years, has it affected your writing of the boys?

I write about the boys because it's what I know.  Maybe some day I'll write a real story, make real character oulines and all that but right now.  I just want to write when I have the time so, making up one Character or two is cool because I have 5 guys where the characters are basically laid out for everyone.

My Fandom has, I wasn't around the fandom much between the end of B&B and Nevergone, and I really didn't jump back into the Fandom until just before Unbreakable.  So when I realized Fan Fics were still around and realized people my age were still writing them it made me excited.  I knew stories would have gotten so much better (not that they weren't before The AJ short Story End Of The Road, still hits me to this day) and they have.  Plus...the sex is way better now :)

Ok I've taken awhile to answer this because I had some thinking to do. One thing you'll notice is a lot of Mare's stories...I pretty much love all of them but listed my favorites. If any of you readers haven't read her stories, read them! I have so many favorite stories but I had to narrow them down so here you go.

And Then What by Chandrah-This story isn't on AC but I have a link for anyone interested. It's not really my type of story that I would look for but it's so well written. It is almost all AJ and a female lead but not a Mary Sue or anything. It's written in both perspectives and is post rehab about him struggling to get back into the real world. This story had me awake for about a week straight.

Why I'd Do It All Again by Mare-About the guys reuniting for Never Gone. I love how she adds in some things that really happened around that time and puts them in the story (such as the whole Paris cake fiasco with the ET cameras). lol. This story is so well written and had me cracking up.

Song for The Undead by Rose and Julie-I took note of this story and it's catchy banner when I kept seeing the updates but for some reason, never checked it out. I didn't think it was my thing. Since I'm a fan of both their writing I decided to give it a try and I was (and still am) HOOKED. I lost a lot of sleep and was so depressed when I couldn't click "Next" anymore. LOL. This story is amazing. Seems really well thought out and planned and has amazing character development.

Incomplete (and Empty Spaces) by rebellious_one-What can I say, I'm a fan of the bus crash genre and I love Reb's writing. Full of suspense and love the action.

It Stays With You by Mare-Another story full of suspense...rig ht up my alley. I love the mix between the "flashbacks" and real life and the confusion about what is real. Ok, hope that makes sense. LOL

Something Beautiful by Pengi-This story is well...just amazing. So well written and beautiful. Get the kleenex ready if you're gonna check it out!

Snapshots by Jennifer-This one is on the Backstreet Bauhaus Classic Archive. Written from each guys' perspectives when something happens to Nick after a show one night. It's awesome.

To Protect and Serve (and it's sequels) by Mare-These stories were the first AU ones that I've read. I remember when Reb explained to me what AU was I was thinking, "Well, that's odd...why wouldn't they be the BSB in the stories?" lol. Well, I gave this story a try and I LOVED it.

So yeah, I told ya'll this was my short list, right? If you haven't checked these out, you should. And there's more where these came form.  :D

You recommended some great stories Sel :)

(My answers have totally changed in the past year LOL...that's kinda funny).

Thank you SO much for all your praise for Undead! I mean seriously, it surprises me all the time. Cause really, while I feel it's good...zombies aren't for everyone. So hearing compliments and praise and stuff for that story makes me feel really happy. :) So thank you.

Thanks for the Why and It Stays mentions as well.  You are making me feel all special and  warn and fuzzy. You rock! :)

Ooh I have so many favorites!

Fighting for Survival and End of the Road by Julie. A couple of the first fanfics I ever read and really sucked me into finding more. I love the relationships in her stories and the bond between the boys is always evident. I guess I'm a sucker for bus crash/wilderness stories too. DS was also the first BSB fanfiction website I discovered that had a huge amount of quality written stories.

Mind Games by Amanda. A great, intense Brian story and I just felt for him the whole time I was reading it.

Diary Full of Memories and Devil Haunts Deals with tough storylines but I love Brian's voice in it and Brian and Nick's relationship.

On the Run by Mersey Another really good survival story

Seven Days by Refuse2Lose Bus crash, being controlled by a mad woman, fighting for survival in the wilderness. The usual  She has a really unique writing style and I enjoy almost all of her stories.

Time's Enemy, Time's Revenge, and Lies by Stephanie. Unfortunately the links for these stories are no longer available but I love the sci-fi time travel stories and Lies was a great Backstreet Project fic.

I've been a BSB fan since I was like 12 and I'm 22 now. i still think the guys are just as amazing if not more so. I still buy every album and request their songs on the radio. I love reading fanfiction about them because they seemed so untouchable in their heyday and fanfic was a way to kinda relate or make a connection. I don't know if I'm explaining it right

One new-ish one on AC you should check out is last month's featured story, "Last Christmas" by rebellious_one .  It has an old-school suspense/survival vibe.  It's not done yet, but almost (although it hasn't been updated in awhile).  http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9961

I also love One in a Million by Forever Frick...Hawk and A Handsaw by Julilly...ther e are too many to mention LOL. My favorite ones of mine are Figured You Out and Always With You. My absolute favorite fanfic is The Ta'oth Trilogy. I wish by some miracle of god she'd update it but it wont happen.   :( But that's ok. I love all her fic though.  My second favorite fic is Cover Me With Dreams. I can remember the exact day I finished that fic. I was bawling my eyes out and I had to take a walk to clear my head because it affected me so much. I can't read it again because it kills me. Lol My third one is Broken/By My Side. Another series that hit me hard. There is another that wasn't as well known and it wasn't finished either but loved it all the same. Its With This Ring by Mary. You're typical Nick gets drunk and marries someone and doesn't remember but I love the way she wrote it.

Right now I really don't remember titles of stories...well I remember names of stories but I'm not 100% sure I'm not confusing them in my head and could end up mixing things so I'm just gonna name the authors of said stories i.e. Izzy, Jennifer Stevens, Cecilia and J-Kat oh and I know I really enjoyed something by Bobbie but not the story that everybody loved (of course I don't remember the name) but something that I think she never completed.

And then there are ones from way in the past too but that I can name because are from my Ms and the names of her stories are engraved in my memory lol Finding Brotherhood by Mersey and The Long Road Home by Mare OMG I think there was a time when every other mail I would send to mare would have me gushing about The Long Road Home. And I could read Finding Brotherhood over and over again.

But right now I feel like reading The Apartment again because someone mentioned it here hehe  ;)

I'm really late to the show on this one!  But I've been getting back into the swing of reading again here lately so I thought I'd do what some others are doing and update with some newer(ish) stories.

So here goes in no particular order;

Song For the Undead --  There are few fanfic stories that I feel can stand alone - meaning without the BSB as characters - (most of my own included), but this one totally could.  I love the characters, I love the story, I love the writing.  This story never fails to draw me in.  Each chapter is new and different, and with each chapter I find myself wanting to know what happens next.  Which btw -- what the hell happens next!?!

Curtain Call --  I already told Julie this when her story was featured, but I started reading this story just as I was going through my melanoma diagnosis in March.  I'm doing fine, but it was a very emotional few weeks and I just really feel like Julie has done an amazing job portraying the emotions of the characters (especially Nick) in her story.  really can't wait to read more!

And then there's

Something Beautiful -- I read this story a while back and absolutely loved it!  Hannah did such an amazing job with the characters and the locations and all of the "something beautifuls" in her story.  I make it my goal now to find something beautiful in every single day and I have her to thank for that!

Wow thank you! That's a huge compliment for you to say you think it could stand alone as an original fiction. We work so hard at trying to keep it fresh and interesting, and again, I just am so flattered that you feel that way about it. :)

Thanks, Rachel! :)  We've had so much fun writing Undead!  Hopefully it will be updated soon; Rose has been working on the next chapter.  We've worked really hard on trying to develop the characters, so your compliment is much appreciated!!

Thanks for mentioning CC again too!  Your posts in the Featured thread back in April meant a lot to me.  I find Nick's POV really hard to write in that story, which is why it hasn't been updated in the last few days, so I'm glad you think his emotions have been portrayed realistically.

Something Beautiful is an amazing story!  I read it last summer as Hannah was writing it and absolutely loved it too.

Yes, Something Beautiful is amazing. It's the first one last summer to make me tear up in a long time. Absolutely adore it.

I gush about CC to Julie all the time, but simply put, that story is fantastic lol.
