Title: Help Posting?
Post by: FricksBabyGurl on July 23, 2010, 04:37:20 AM
I know where I have to go to post a story and all that jazz but when i try to put the chapter in it screws up. It never keeps it in paragraphs, it always gets changed into one big block. Does anyone have any clue what I'm doing wrong?

There's been an issue with tinyMCE so you need to have your html codes in your chapter to ensure it shows up right.

What I've been doing since the new site is to save my file as a .html and then add the file instead of copying and pasting.  It keeps your format then :)

Good thinking!

I reinstalled TinyMCE today but it still didn't take. :/

Yup I do the same thing usually Steph. The only thing I find when I do that is for some reason the italics parts of my chapters get messed up. I don't know why that is! So, i've been just copy and pasting.

If you have your story indented, with no spaces between paragraphs (correct formatting for something you would print out, instead of post online), it won't keep your indents when you paste it in.  It also won't keep double spacing or anything like that.  Basically, it takes away all your formatting.  What you might need to do is go through and hit enter after every paragraph so at least you get a line of white space to break up the paragraphs.

:D I thought we had to format with HTML anyway.

I tried hitting enter between paragraghs and it didn't work for me. And now I feel stupid because I have no idea what html is. But thanks for the suggestions, even  don't have any clue what yall mean. lol

If you put < p > without the spaces before the start of each paragraph, it will add a space for you.

She shouldn't have to do that, though...

FricksBabyGurl, what program do you write in?

I write in Microsoft Word. Should I use something different? Because every single time I try to post it turns into a block and I know nobody wants to take the time to read that. I sure don't.

Hm...  I use Microsoft Word, and it works fine if I just copy and paste it WITHOUT using the tinyMCE editor (which now works again).  Word and tinyMCE do not seem to get along, so I just paste it as plain text and add in my own formatting if I want something italicized, bolded, or centered.  It keeps my paragraphs, though.  I don't indent my fanfics; I just put a line of white space between each paragraph, and it keeps that.

Try this...
1. Go to Account Info on AC and click Edit Preferences
2. Make sure "Use tinyMCE WYSWYG editor" is not checked.
3. Open your story in Word and make sure you have a line of white space (enter) between each paragraph.
4. Copy and paste your chapter into AC.  It should paste as plain text, with no formatting.
5. Post it and see if it keeps your paragraphs.

I can't imagine why that wouldn't work, but let us know if you're still having problems.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try it out and let you know how it works for me.

Wierd, I use Word for mine too. I copy and paste and everything turns out fine, even the Italics. The only thing I ever have to fix using TinyMCE is centering.

Glad it worked!

I haven't tried using tinyMCE in forever, but I remember it not posting my stuff the way I wanted it to.  It might have just been the fact that it posts extra spaces between paragraphs; that drives me nuts.

I thought I was so stupid for not being able to figure it out. The odd thing is it used to work for me then all of a sudden it starting screwing up my spacing and crap. But it's all good now, thank goodness there are so many nice people on AC who are willing to help. :) I always come here when I have crappy days and it's like a freaking family. I just have to read a story or one of these boards and I smile.

Aww!  I feel the same way about this board.  I'd be lost without it!

Glad you got it working!

Copy and paste still doesn't work for me.  I use word, but have tried typing in microsoft works too, but still no luck.  And that tinyMCE hasn't worked for me since the AC blackout :(

So I'm saving my document as a .html file and adding the document rather than copy and paste.  That works for me and keeps all the formatting.  Just means I have to have my chapters as singele files rather than all in the same file.  But that's no big deal.

Aww!  I feel the same way about this board.  I'd be lost without it!

When it went down I seriously cried. My mom thought something seriously bad had happened like someone had died. Although in a way, it was just as bad. I freaked when I thought about all my favorite stories not being there anymore. I cried again when it came back up, I love this place.  :bighug:

Glad it's working now!

Heh, I remember my moment of frustration and how freaked out I was when I noticed the black out. Until I saw the message that it would come back. This place is my sanctuary! Also 'cause it helps me improve my way of writing and my English!  ;D

But there are times (like these) I don't visit AC or this board that much, simply 'cause I have to focus more while reading an English story, 'cause it's not my native language. If I focus too much, I get headaches, so that's why.  :-[ (well, that's also because I have concentration problems) These days I just have a tiny break. Although I started reading a bit more lately 'cause I need a lot to catch up on. I reaaaaally have to admit that atm I'm only reading the Coaster Series by evergreenwrite r (forgot the number that's usually in the nickname and forgot your real name lol) 'cause of the reason I mentioned above. I think I have at least 4 or 5 other stories that I haven't read in ages. I feel bad 'cause I'm abandoning them while the stories are so good! But planning to start reading the others real soon. :)
