This is a thread for all the angst-lovers on the board. If you love to physically and/or mentally torture, maim, and harm the Backstreet Boys in your, join the club!
In angst we trust!
-
Join our club. We've got cookies! :D :D
-
Cookies laced with razor blades that will rip through your throat on the way down, leaving a trail of torn esophageal tissue that will remind you of the pain we've put our Boys through by symbolically (or sometimes literally) ripping out their hearts and shredding their souls. You can dunk them in a cocktail of Backstreet Boy blood and tears (and then, presumably, vomit up your own blood to replenish the stock).
-
You need an angsty avatar that represents your writing, Cinzia. I'm picturing a bleeding heart that has been split in two and some play on the word slash... a double meaning, since you write slash and also like to break Brian's heart LOL.

I know! I'm trying to find a perfect angsty avatar! The broken heart is an amazing idea!

(Seriously, no pressure to use it; I just wanted to make one LOL. Btw, that is really 16-year-old Nick's arm, because that's just how anal I am about details.)
-
Wow that's a whole lot of MINE lol
Thanks!
-
I have to confess that I prefer emotional hurt and torture over the physical one. lol
-
You're welcome!
I like both kinds of torture... my favorite is to hurt them physically and then watch them deal with the emotional pain that goes with that.
-
Join the party, Rose! Sad Panda Power!
-
Does this mean I gotta upload my Nearly Mindless Nick avy? I'm still fond of Sad Panda LOL.
Unless we find a Sad Zombie Panda...
ANGST + TORTURE = Happy Rose
-
LOL! I was just posting :P

I wouldn't mind seeing Nearly Mindless Nick back, but I do love your sad panda avy too - and hey, Sad Panda is the epitome of angst, so he totally fits!
I have a sad zombie pandaskunk as my avy on Twitter, remember? LOL There's pretty much no creature more epic than that.
-
LOL sadly, this is true. Unless we find a way to incorporate a platypus.
-
*sigh* this is really a happy place to be! lol

I'm not happy unless my characters are unhappy!

-
Welcome!
The more, the better!!! :D Not for the boys, though!

I love a good angst filled with drama. Those stories are my favorite :)
-
Hey, Can I join? LOL
-
Yup, all can enter, just make sure you have your own box of tissues! lol
-
Anyone can join, as long as doesn't mind a little bit of blood. And tears. And pain. Lot of pain. LOL
-
Welcome, angst-lovers!

Some of those same artists, like Linkin Park, Evanescence, and James Blunt, have lots of angsty songs I love, but I didn't want to make the list even longer by naming them all.
Usually when I'm actually writing angsty stuff, I listen to instrumental music, mostly movie scores. My favorite angsty instrumental music is from Braveheart and Requiem for a Dream. I listened to this particular track from the Braveheart soundtrack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv3Kxg56Dak) so many times as I was writing the choppage part of Broken that I can no longer watch that part of the without thinking of poor one-legged Nick LOL.

-
I enjoy Glee covers too, Cinzia!
-
Songs that make you cry... that'd be another good list. Mine would overlap with the angsty list - Gone Without Goodbye is a prime example - but there are other songs that I didn't even put on the list that make me cry for strange reasons.
The song "There Goes My Life" by Kenny Chesney makes me cry because it makes me think of my dad, and when I was in college and it came out, it made me homesick. I don't even like country music, but I love that song.
The song "Baby Mine" from Dumbo makes me bawl like a baby as I picture that scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CORf1liT9cE), and I'm not even sure why because, in the scheme of Disney movies, it shouldn't be THAT sad. It's not like Dumbo's mom dies. But it's so sad! Like I literally just looked it up on YouTube so I could put the link here, and I'm sitting here with big fat tears rolling down my cheeks. Every time!
A related one that I rediscovered as I was writing Curtain Call is the "Mother Earth and Father Time" song from Charlotte's Web (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHMaiQimSYU). I like to make mix CDs, and I made one for Curtain Call as I was writing it to keep me inspired, and I was playing it in my car one time, and this song came on, and I was like, OMG, why did I put this on here?! Totally made me cry. I am kind of a masochist as well as a sadist, though, so I like stuff that makes me cry; it's cathartic.
-
There is one song that makes me cry everytime and it's "Come What May".
Others... well, it depends on the mood I am.
-
I don't think a song has ever made me cry...books and films however are a different matter!
-
There are quite a few that make me boohoo!
Mainly because they remind me of things and people. I included links to songs even though I'm sure you have heard them all, if you guys want to cry! LOL
"For Good" from Wicked because it's the song Maria, Mersey and I have adopted as our song!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQJaZO2nfGg
"Goodbye My Friend" Sang this at my friend Jackie's funeral after she died from cancer. Friggin' cancer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBHcUv_42zI
"If These Walls" Amy Grant reminds me of when I moved away from Boston after college
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVf4ge1DX3s
"You'll be in My Heart" the song and video I made for Jean's last birthday before she died of cancer. Friggin' cancer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCk3QJ11HEw
"Wild Horses" just in case you have never heard it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f11ZV7I7n4
Now if this post wasn't loaded with angst I don't know what more I could do! LOL

Insomnia is a great help for plotting angsty stories.
Which lead me to a question: Did you ever use a illness or a situation happened to you to torture the Boys?
-
Nope... thankfully, nothing that bad has ever happened to me. I've never had a serious illness, never had surgery, never been in a car accident or anything like that... *knock on wood* So I don't draw on a lot of real-life inspiration for that aspect of my stories, which is a good thing!
-
lol of course it's a good thing!
I admit that the only ispiration that I've used was more on the emotional side of suffering and pain. Which, in a way, is kinda therapeutic for me.lol
