For the first challenge, you get to choose a challenge or do BOTH! I liked my first idea so much, but I know that not everyone has the equipment they need to pull it off.
Challenge #1 runs from Sunday, July 24 to Saturday, July 30. Participants will post their results in this thread. Two people (winner of Challenge A and winner of Challenge B) will each get a one pound loss deduction for their team for Weigh-in #3. If the same person wins both challenges - you get a TWO pound loss for your team.
Good luck!
CHALLENGE #1 (A): 10,000 Promises
It is recommended that an average person walk at least 10,000 steps a day. Keep this promise by keeping track of your daily walking patterns! The easiest way to do this is to get a pedometer; however, if you figure out another method you're welcome to use that too. (Just explain it here on the board, lol)
What you want to do is to log the EXACT number of steps you've taken right before bed each night. :) Then total up all of your steps taken for the week.
CHALLENGE #1 (B): One in a Million
This challenge is a ratio competition. Here's how it works:
Write down the number of calories you ate in a day
Write down the number of calories you burned by exercise in a day
Divide the number of calories burned by exercise by the number of calories you ate in a day.
(Example: 1500 calories eaten; 350 calories burned. 350/1500=.23 rounded)
This number will give you a decimal number (aka percentage). Write it down.
Here's the tricky part -- at the end of the challenge, whoever's percentage comes closest to the whole number 1 will win. So, if you're exercise crazy, you'll probably go over (but you might lose more weight than someone who purposely keeps close to 1)

I'll do 2 even though I am one of the workout crazies bc I don't have a pedometer..
-
I'm gonna pick #1 I wanna see how many steps I do at work each day because I know it's waaayyy over 10,000.
-
I don't have a pedometre so #2 for me! :)
-
Since I have to work all day tomorrow and am heading to bed now I'm gonna post my results.
I chose 10,000 Promises
Sunday - 19,324 Worked 9+ hours M,T,W walked everywhere around the store!
Monday - 15,590
Tuesday- 17,271
Wednesday- 5,609 was off this day so didn’t do much
Thursday- 12,478
Friday- 11,344
Saturday 6,784 Off this day too
Total: 88,400
Crazy how much I walk and run around at work I'm always on my feet! Now wonder they are killing me by the end of my shifts

By default, Steph has won the challenge!
Question for everyone else:
Was it just the challenges themselves that made it hard to do?
And/or
Do you think because of the time of year, that we should have challenges at all?
-
I would have done the pedometer challenge if it weren't summer. When I'm working, I'm on my feet all day, so I would racked up steps with no problem. Now that it's summer, eh, I pretty much sit on my ass all day when I'm home, besides when I'm working out - which I don't do ALL day.
I didn't think I had any shot of doing well in the other challenge because I don't burn anywhere close to the number of calories I eat just through exercising. That doesn't even sound healthy! LOL

I can say for myself that the time frame for the challenge was my vacation, so I simply forgot about everything :S
But basee on how quiet things have been around here, I guess a lot of people are like that too.
My suggestion is to make the next challenge based on nutrition until summer ends. The 'quit playing games with my heart challenge' from round one was very good. So maybe one like that is a good option for now. ;)

I walked a bit, I don't walk a bunch for work anyway but I thought I was keeping track of my steps and then halfway through the week I noticed my IPOD did not have the pedometer setting turned on like I thought it did, so I didn't know what I'd done for half a week. :(
As for the other challenge, I've been horrible about keeping track of my calories in.

Yay for winning, sucks that I was the only one who was able to do this! Hopefully we can get everyone to do the next challenge!!
-
Congrats on your win; good for you for doing it!

Congratulation!!!
And please, don't say it sucks what you did! It's awesome that you're commited to this, while a lot of us are now sorry we didn't do it or at least try (like myself!).
So, once again, awesome job!!!! :D

I know for me I had every intention of doing this challenge but I got super busy and was away for the week so it just didn't happen. :/ Maybe it's the time of year though, everyone has stuff on the go!

Well done Steph!
I didn't even get a chance to do this as was away last week and this week has just flown by!
