We're going to play a game, but I need your participation! The game is called "Guess Who Wrote It," and the goal is to see if we can match up authors to excerpts from their stories.
If you want to be included as one of the authors featured in the game, PM me with an excerpt from one of your stories. (Short... like a parapraph or a few lines.) Try to make the excerpt something generic, so it won't give away what story it's from, or something from one of your most obscure stories that you think no one has read. You can change names or other give-aways if you want to; just don't change anything else. The goal is to see if we can recognize your writing style.
When I get enough submissions, we'll start Round 1. I'll post maybe five pieces of writing and five names, and you guys will try to correctly match them up.

"Here.” A.J. tossed his key to her.
“Are you kidding?” she asked as she caught the keys, “Nick said you are anal about letting people drive your vehicles. He said that your girlfriends aren’t even that privileged, unless you’re drunk. Of course, referring to when you USED to get drunk.”
“Yeah, well,” he shrugged, “it has full coverage. I trust you.”
“WOOOOOOOOO! I GET TO DRIVE AN ESCALADE! I GET TO DRIVE AN ESCALADE!” she sang as she started dancing in circles.
B.
In fact, if he could have, Nick would have skipped the awards all together, but the guys were presenting tonight and they needed him. No matter what was going on in his personal life, Nick always did what was best for the group, so he would attend the awards. But he’d be damned if he was going with some Mary fucking Sue that Brian plucked straight from the congregation at church on Sunday, with hopes of reforming poor messed up Nick. And those were the exact words that followed the “Hell no,” he’d given Brian.
C.
The boys are having an album launch party right now. I was invited but I called them up and told them I couldn’t come. Today is their day, their album, their new beginning.
We promised to do lunch once their schedule settled down a little. For now, I’m just happy to be where I am. In the middle of our past (I still can’t believe Nick let me step on his back and have it stilled forever in this picture!) while surrounded by the sound of the new Backstreet Boys.
I picked up the CD sleeve and browsed through.
Some things just never change though. Typical Backstreet Boys, would it kill them to print out the lyrics?

The thick, dark cold tried to smoother her as she fought to take a breath and break free of the haze that surrounded her, forcing her into a submissive, lifeless state, at the mercy of her unconscious mind. Her face broke into a look of concentration and pain as she fought to wake up from her endless sleep. The faintest moan of displeasure escaped her lips as her body began to regain feeling and motion.
The room was silent as the other three occupants continued to sleep through their friend’s internal struggle, having been guests in the ICU wing of the hospital for the last week while waiting for their friend to wake up. Unbeknownst to all of them, the woman they had come to support was fighting an inner battle with herself, trying to clear the cobwebs that had taken up residence in her mind. Due to the stress caused by the loss of her family, her body had shut down in an attempt to heal itself, forcing the devastated woman into a self-induced coma that ended up lasting a week.
E.
“Oh, yeah… What did you want to tell me?” Lucia turned to Sarah.
Sarah hit her head, “I can’t believe I almost forgot!” She stopped and grabbed Lucia’s shoulders, “The Backstreet Boys are finally releasing a new album! Can you believe it? After five years, they’re releasing a new album!”
Lucia cocked her head, “It’s not an internet rumor?”
Sarah gave her a small glare, “Since when do I partake in internet rumors? I’m a member of the BSBNRA!”
“The Backstreet Boys have a sect of the national rifle association?”
“No Rumors Alliance!!” Sarah shook Lucia’s shoulders.
“You think you would come up with a better acronym….”
“Well, that’s what it is! We’re an alliance that stops rumors from spreading!!” Sarah continued to shake Lucia’s shoulders.
Lucia laughed, “I get it, I get it…”
Sarah released her grip on Lucia’s shoulders and composed herself, “I heard the new song this morning on Z100! It’s amazing! And I heard the Boys were coming here to promote it!” She gave Lucia a smile again, “Want to go to TRL again? They have to be on it!”
Lucia shook her head, “You know… the way you talk about them like they’re your own family is a little twisted….”
Sarah shook her head, “I’m serious, we’ll go to all their promotional events! We’ll get their autographs and have lunch with them!”
“Since when do they have lunch with their fans?”
Sarah clenched her fist excitedly, “How could they not have lunch with us?”
Lucia put her hands on Sarah’s shoulders, “What about the standardized exams coming up? Don’t you care about them? You’re the one that wants to go to an Ivy League school!”
“Hey… The Boys haven’t released an album in five years! We have to support them!”
“What about the exams?”
Sarah raised an eyebrow, “I study every day… I don’t need to cram for the exams… And since we’ve been studying together for the past five years, neither should you…”
Lucia lowered her head, “You know, I think I’m going to write a strongly worded letter of complaint to them.”
Sarah took in a gasp, “AJ would hate me! And then he won’t eat lunch with me!”
Lucia spread out her hands and laughed a little, “Dear Backstreet Boys, Next time you want to go on hiatus, please send me a monthly check for the medical bills I incur when my best friend sends me to the hospital from too much studying. Please include a demo tape with your first monthly check to keep her quiet…. In the event that your hiatus extends past a year, I will raise the amount of that monthly check by double the original value…”
Sarah grabbed Lucia’s hands, “They’ll think I’m weird if you send that! Lucia! They’ll think I’m weird, Lucia!”
Lucia laughed, “I won’t, I won’t….”
Sarah laughed a little too, “You’re lying, you’re lying!”
“Writing takes too much effort, Sarah, and they’ll never read it… Do they really have time to read letters like that? They’d laugh at it….” Lucia continued to laugh.
“You’d make them read it just so you could spite me!”
“Look, if I knew the Backstreet Boys, I’d have set you up with AJ a long time ago.”
Sarah stopped and tightened her grip on Lucia’s hands, “Really?”
Lucia laughed, “Of course, of course!”

aww, see I have a couple guesses, but I didn't want to guess cause I'm one of the people up there. Sadly though, I suck and two of them I've never read any of their stuff. But the other two I think I know which are theirs.

That's a good idea. I already deleted their PMs last night so I could figure out which entries I hadn't used yet, and I don't remember all of the stories. I know Dee's (nicksgal) was from Pandora's Box (right, Dee?). The others, I don't remember for sure... they'll have to post and tell you.

oh, poop. well, I was close so yay! Actually, I think I had the most trouble figuring it out between Sinara and Dee, for whatever reason. Yay fun!

oh and p.s. I was getting your responses on yahoo, julie...i think. unless there were sometimes when i didn't respond at all. i think my yahoo's been screwy lately cuz i haven't been able to talk to kelly on it lately *kicks yahoo*

For me, it was nice to just get a glimpse of people's writing styles especially since I suck so badly when it comes to actually reading fanfiction.

Yup. :) I changed the names to be sneaky though. Since keeping "Minako" and "Renee" as the names would have given it away. ;)
I won't tell you which fake name is Minako and which fake name is Renee though, you'll just have to read and find out. lol
And if it makes anyone feel better, I picked a generic part on purpose so it would be tricky. lol

I think that's a good thing - it means either everyone has read that story, or has read enough of your writing to know your writing style. Or they were just lucky guesses LOL.

haha I don't think many have read that story. In fact it's not even posted on AC anymore because I'm not sure if I'll ever finish it. I should though. I like it, I just never work on it for some reason.
I guess it just sounds like me. whatever that is.

That's why this game is interesting... we can see if it's possible to tell someone's writing just by their "voice" or whatever.

Yup, in which case you have to wonder if it's better for people to not guess right or to guess right. lol I guess it depends on the author's view on things. On the one hand it could be awesome if no one guesses because it just shows you have versatility? or if you can tell it means you have a difinitive style.
Or they could just be unlucky or lucky guesses lol
Either way, it's a fun game.
and Kelly, don't feel bad. The only one I got right was Mersey and it's because I sent it in. lol

actually I kind of giggled when you were the only one who got me wrong cause I was definite sure you've never read this one. haha. It's my attempt at a Nick drama. which is probably why I never update and why it's obscure. I'm not exactly known for my Nick drama.
yeah, I also wonder if it's a good thing or not. I think it could be and yet it might get tiresome. you know what I mean? I mean I think I have some versatility as a writer as being able to write in different genres. Like I was nominated for 5 different stories, at the felix awards, all in different genres, which I feel is quite the accomplishment, yet I think when you read my stuff, you can always tell that Kelly wrote it. I feel I have a very distinct voice as a writer. But is that good or bad? I think it can work both ways. Having people recognize me can be good, but will they eventually get tired of it, and do I sound repetitive. That's where my major concern would be.

LOL I think almost everyone knew it was her. I was kind if hoping that her and I would be in the same game because so many times people get us confused. I wanted to see if it would happen again or not.

haha but I got a lot busier than I expected... And like I said, that SN one was way too much story for a challenge and too good an idea to try and sum up. haha I really must write that story. all I can say is demonic syphilis. good times!

A.
Time crawled by, and soon Howie joined Nick in pacing. All sorts of terrible things were going through their minds at the moment, wondering what ‘method’ would be used on their friend. Just when they thought they could take no more, the door slid open again. Kael was leading AJ inside, a firm and secure grip on his arm. A gasp was heard, although no one could say who had made the sound. AJ looked more… subdued than before he was taken. What had happened? He wasn’t looking at anyone, not even at Kael.
B.
I stood there with the phone in my hand thinking about what had just happened. Part of me was still mad at him but it wasn’t every day Kevin Richardson would apologize and tell you that he was wrong. And the fact that he was worried made me smile. Things didn’t change, no matter how bad the fight was, the minute he knew I wasn’t feeling okay he would run to make sure everything was fine. It hadn’t even been anything specific he had told me but that short talk was a reminder that to him I would always be the little brother he needed to take care of. Sometimes that bothered me, sometimes it made me feel loved and special.
C.
I stop and sign autographs and that's when I see her.
Standing all alone, amongst a crowd of people screeching my name. She sticks out because everyone else is smiling. She is not. Everyone else is screaming, she is quiet, everyone else is jumping up and down, she stands still. Her head bowed down, looking uncomfortable and out of place. I am drawn to the place where she is standing. The yells and cheers diminish into a dull roar and all I see is her and I.
I walk up to her and say hello. She looks at me and then turns around thinking I must be talking to someone else. She slowly turns her head back my way when she sees that she is the person I have greeted.
"Hello.." She says hesitantly and looks back down at the floor. I delicately lift her chin up and have her eyes meet mine.
"My name is Nick"
"Yes, I know that. I'm Michelle" She seems confused. I don't mean to make her uncomfortable.
"Would you like to go for a walk with me?" I ask her as I hold out my hand to grab hers. She smiles. What a beautiful smile I think as we walk together. We don't speak for a few minutes before she asks me with a slight crack in her voice,
"Why me? You could have picked any of the girls that were all over you. Look at me Nick" When she says that I do. I gaze into her perfect green eyes and don't understand what she is talking about. She makes eye contact with me and then breaks it to look back down at the floor.
D.
Grateful for the distraction, Nick inconspicuousl y released the Tootsie Roll blob into the water and gave it a nudge so that it started to float away from him. After Leighanne had led a sniffling Baylee inside, Nick waited a few minutes, then let out a loud gasp of mock horror. “Uh… Brian??” he called loudly, his voice filled with a tone of disgust. “I think your son left a little something behind in the pool.” He pointed to the clump of Tootsie Rolls bobbing in the water a few feet away from him.
When Brian swam over to investigate, AJ, Howie, and Kevin followed. “Holy shit!” AJ exclaimed first. “Rok, there’s… there’s shit in here!” Looking nauseated, he quickly backstroked away from the floating log of Tootsie Rolls, which Nick had masterfully sculpted into a perfect replica of a nice solid turd.
Nick saw Kevin glance over at him with suspicion in his eyes, but Brian groaned and said, “Oh man… he’s been potty-trained for a year, but sometimes he gets distracted when he’s having too much fun and forgets… you know. Sorry, guys.” He offered a sheepish grin and added, with the calmness of a dad who had gotten used to dealing with his kid’s poop, “Hang on, I’ll take care of it.”
E.
"So this is where you ran off to? If I didn't know any better I'd say you were trying to hide from someone."
I nearly groaned towards the gruff tone as I hastily shut the faucet off and turned. But I withheld my show of displeasure for being bothered when I noticed AJ appeared just as weathered as I did. "Had to take a leak," I answered simply with a small shrug. AJ was correct about one thing though. I was on a mission to avoid Kevin at all costs and Kevin was seemingly on a mission to find me and squish me like a bug. I think I shall rename Kevin "Mr. Scrooge" this year. The title rather befits him I believe. Although I think I will keep that to myself for the time being.
"Oh, so that's what this room is for?" AJ chortled as he walked right past me. He made a bee line for the only urinal next to the only stall, unzipped his pants, and began to do his business without regards to the fact that I was still present in the room. And on top of it all he was whistling some rediculously off key tune that resembled one the songs Brian had burst onto the plane singing earlier. I swear that man has no shame and if he even begins to sing a single word of that song, I may just go find Kevin and allow him to squish me like a bug after all. A moment later AJ turned back around, his horrific tune halting as he made his way over to the sink. "Still avoiding Kev?"
"Maybe."
"Planning on staying in this shit hole the entire time?"
"Considering it...why?"
"Because I find it funny that after all these years you are still afraid of Kevin."
He laughed as he said it and I looked at him incredulously. Afraid of Kevin? Hardly! I was not afraid of Kevin. I just didn't feel like listening to his bitching as he blamed me for this whole disaster. If anybody was afraid of Kevin it was AJ and why the Hell was he still laughing? If he really thought he was that funny then maybe he should go tell someone who cared, like the wall for instance. I'm sure the wall would listen. AJ was a freaking lunatic sometimes and yet I somehow always managed to have to take the downfall for being the not so sane one of the group. "...Shut up!"
Ok, so that wasn't exactly the reply I was looking to produce and AJ only laughed harder. "You're an idiot," I grumbled and side stepped towards the door, moving back out into the main lobby of the airport, which wasn't saying much. It was damn small and very distasteful in appearance. I wanted to bend down, rip off a piece of the brown colored carpeting, find Kevin, and shove it in his face. You think you feel like crud Scrooge? Well this is what I feel like- shit-toned carpet! I know I was just blowing off steam but I wasn't going to forget his lack of sympathy for everyone else, especially when he blamed it all on me and in front of the eyes of everyone else who were stranded right along with us. And great, now my stomach was growling something awful just to make matters worse. I think I'll blame my hunger on Kevin since he was so Hell bent on blaming everything on me. If I die from starvation then I will so come back to haunt him.

I suck. I should read more. But I also have the most horrible memory on the planet, so I i've read more than I realize. If I go back and look through my review history, I see reviews I've left for things I had no idea I've ever read.

What threw me off is that I was thinking okay, so I've only read Mare and Julie so if it's familiar it's going to be one of them -- and I got Julie's off the bat BUT I forgot about all the stuff I'd read for the Felix Awards so I couldn't figure out why more of them were familiar, and that's how I figured yours was Mare's lol
