Title: 21 questions!
Post by: mare on January 06, 2007, 11:56:54 PM
Okay I can't believe I am starting this right before I go to bed lol but I felt the need to add this while I was thinking about it.

Anyway...

To get to know each other better as authors and/or readers, I figured we could start this game.

The only rules are simple:

~ You cannot answer your own question and you cannot answer more than five total.

~ Once you answer a question, you have to ask a question until we get to number 21. At that point you can start another thread or just end it lol So don't forget to number the questions as you ask and answer. So if you are answering 1) make sure you put a 1) next to your response but you shouldn't answer a question that has already been answered.

~ If two people are posting at the same time, the first person who answered the question should make the next question.

~ Whoever answers that 21st question is the person who should start the next thread.

~ When you ask your question, you can specify if you want an author to answer, or a reader. If you don't specify then anyone can answer.

Make sense?

Okay then i'll start this up  ;D

1) For writers... how important is getting feedback on your stories for you?

1) I write for me, so it's not huge for me. But I do wish that my readers would respond so that I didn't feel like I was posting to take up space. :( That and sometimes i get jealous of the people with a lot of reviews who I think ought not to get so many... ::)

2) Readers, what do you look for in a fan fic?

1) I write for me, so it's not huge for me. But I do wish that my readers would respond so that I didn't feel like I was posting to take up space. :( That and sometimes i get jealous of the people with 400 plus reviews who I think ought not to get so many... ::)

2) Readers, what do you look for in a fan fic?

I look for a good plot that will make me want to click to the next chapter or wait for an update. Good English is awesome too, I dont expect a flawless piece, just as long as i can understand what's going on in the chapter :D

3) What is the weirdest request, plot wise, have you, as a writer, received from a reader?
Title: Re: 21 questions!
Post by: Chaos on January 07, 2007, 07:29:58 AM
The weirdest request for me plotwise (in the BSB fandom...I have weirder ones elsewhere lol) was to hook Nick from Ground Zero up with Wendy (a minor character I made up that was only in one tiny scene as one of the BSB's PR staff.) Or along the same lines someone wanted me to hook him up with Kevin. The only reason I thought Wendy was weirder was that I could actually see the potential for it to go there with Kevin if I were the sort who wrote slash...or romance at all for that matter. But I'm not, so...

4) For readers: Do you check the reviews of a story before reading it or do you go soley by the title and summary (and perhaps author)?

4) For readers: Do you check the reviews of a story before reading it or do you go soley by the title and summary (and perhaps author)?

When I'm reading a fic I usually don't because I don't want the reviews to give away too much of the story I'm about to read. I usually read based on summary... the banner... if it was recently updated... etc

5) What is the most out there plot you have ever read in BSB fan fics? (This could be interesting lol)
Title: Re: 21 questions!
Post by: ryanna on January 07, 2007, 02:56:49 PM
my answer would be , boy loves a girl, some stuff they have to face some times kids involved but her don't we all love to read some of that

6) writers: have you ever felt you are to into the fiction(story) you are writing that it is actually reflecting your own life ?

I didn't know this was an "out there" plot... ??? Gosh, then what I write must be so out there that it doesn't exist. :(

I think my question was just misinterpreted . By "out there" I meant crazy, over the top, insane kind of plot that makes you scratch your head and go huh? What do we do in this case Mare? Do we just move on? Can I ask my question again?

That's what I thought you meant... Or maybe she just hasn't read any "out there" stories...

Hrmm ask it again :) why not? maybe answer the last question and ask it as a new one? Question 7? maybe? lol

6) This question could go two ways. The fiction I am most into writing would be PBox... Is it coming alive in my real life? I do doodle the characters from it often, but as to it coming alive, I hope not.... *as a demon sails through the sky* Does my real life go into my stories, particularly that one? Rarely, if ever. I try to keep reality and fiction seperate.

7) What was a story or genre you have always wanted to write, but felt you were unable to do so, and why?

There, now there's some space between it. :)

I have always wanted to try my hand at Science fiction but I can't seem to bring myself to do it. I just don't have that creative flair it takes to come up with some of the ideas you would need to write one of those and make it a believeable BSB fanfic. Maybe one day though.

8) Is there any story you have written, that you wish you could go back in time and change something to make it be drastically different (as in a plot or a character), would you? What story and why?
Title: Re: 21 questions!

8 ) All my early work. Mainly because the characterizati on is poor and the plot is not much better, but deep down, the idea was a good one. I'm actually in the process of reworking one, which I had posted on AC, right now. :)

9) What is the most out there plot you have ever read in BSB fan fics? (This could be interesting lol)~On behalf of Mel. :)

Yay! I get to answer my own question lol How cool is that? On second thought though I wanna hear from someone else on this cuz I have a feeling there are some crazier ones out there

I could answer since it was technically yours. ;) But my answer just involves OOCness, not crazyness, so.... Besides, I've already answered three questions before we've hit ten! :o So I'll wait a while. :)

LMAO I am kind of avoiding that one too only because when I start reading a story and it's out there I usually stop. I am curious to see what others have to say though.

I'd answer, but the most out there are some of my own (from what I've seen LOL), so I'm choosing not to and waiting to see. Cause I'm curious.

Oh, Mare, I saw your other post if you ever wanted to try scifi, I'd love it. I adore writing scifi, and you're a good author so I'd love to see it. Or if I ever finished one of my other projects..(I am on overload right now)I wouldn't mind helping you in that genre (or collabing if you ever wanted...which I dunno since you said you don't do it often lol).

i think i can answer this one lol, if ya mean out there as in a crazy fic i have read.....id hafta say....5 Backstreet Boys in search of a plot.....becau se there are so many plots, but in a way it all relates back to one, the boys being not to happy with their authors lol.

10) what kind of reviewer are you? do you like to review every single chapter or once you get caught up? and do you like to do short and sweet reviews or longwinded ones?

LMAO aww after all the waiting, you picked one of mine? I had forgotten how out there that one was.

Hasn't anyone read anything like Nick is part frog/part human and has an alien baby with Brian the warthog? *thinks about including that in the next story she works on*

Mine was one where the plot about the environment, but all Nick wanted to do was have sex. Female lead: Nick, there's an oil spill in the ocean! Nick: Forget it baby, the oil will still be there when we're done having sex.

Right... ::)

Mine are pretty weird.... I mean, Nick is a demon... horns, wings, tail, fangs, everything! Actually, they all look like that, but still... :P

10) what kind of reviewer are you? do you like to review every single chapter or once you get caught up? and do you like to do short and sweet reviews or longwinded ones?

Usually when I get caught up. The length depends on the story and/or author. I often like to give a little constructive criticism along with the positives (not that I would expect anything different for my own stories), but I know some authors don't always care for that, so in that case, they're short. I just like to help people out with their stories at times... I find it fun for some reason. *lol*

11) As a writer, you're bound to have a million and one story ideas flooding in your mind at any given moment. What makes you choose one over the others?

How well I can picture it and how different it is for me. Like with 00Carter, when I had that brainstorm, I almost didn't want to do it. School starting, time issues. But I kept picturing all these ideas, I could seriously see it in my head, and ideas for it kept flowing. If its what I think is just a brilliant idea, and I can picture almost EVERYTHING about it, and hwo it'll go, that pretty much confirms it.

12) What helps you make the characters more real/indepth to you and your readers? (I'm a freak about in depth characters so I want to see others POV on this)

12) What helps you make the characters more real/indepth to you and your readers? (I'm a freak about in depth characters so I want to see others POV on this)

I think every character needs some kind of back story, even if it's not something you actually come right out and spill to the readers. But I know for me, I always create a history for my characters, especially the boys. I really make sure I try to 'channel' them before I write as them and once again I read it back out loud to see if when I do, I can actually hear one of the guys saying what i'm saying. Sometimes it works and I keep it. Sometimes it doesn't and I scrap it. My biggest fear when writing as the boys is that I make one of them sound too much like a girl, since you know...I am one and all lol

13) What in your mind makes the perfect villian? What kind of qualities should this villian posess to make him/her not a big cliche?
Title: Re: 21 questions!
Post by: LenniluvsBrian on January 10, 2007, 10:33:24 PM
13) Big bad villians??? I dunno how to not make 'em cliche or whatever (haha-I think I've forgotten the meaning to that really), but they MUST have an evil laugh! They gotta always have a sinister plot with a back-up plan to follow in case things go wrong with Plan A. They always gotta be up to something - though, they hafta sometimes be the one you least expect, yanno? [Am I even making any sense?]  Just - stuff like that.

14) Everyone - Have you read any none BSB related fan fics & if so, which ones??? [No, they don't hafta be any of mine-lol]

~Lenni~

P.S. I'm gonna answer for 9 though Felicia already answered. My answer is 'For The Fans' - some psycho guy is going around killing fans & leaving them for BSB to find, then he interrupts a concert & shoots people & tells them nobody is leaving because he's planted bombs all over the arena & they're all gonna die with him & stuff. Though, one little girl stands up to him, after he shoots her sister [who if I remember correctly, lives] & she's stuck picking people who can go free & stuff. And eventually, I think his daughter stops him. He'd cone psychotic because his daughter was a BSB fan. *shakes head*

I have to say I have tried to read some non related fanfics, but the only one I could actually find myself getting into is one of Chaos' Supernatural fics. Again, I think my problem is i'm not a big enough fan of anything else to actually read a fanfic about that thing. I used to love Highlander the series but still couldn't bring myself to read fanfics about it. I'm weird like that. Maybe i'd try a Numb3rs fic if it was really really really well written. lol

15) What is the best short story you have ever read and why? (fanfic of course lol)

There was a fanfic on ff.net called A Widow Before a Bride. It's a Road to Avonlea fanfic and I can't tell you why it was so wonderful. I think this author has a great way with description and words.  It was just ... wow.

16.) What is your "fave" villian? and by that I mean what villian really creeped you out?

16.) What is your "fave" villian? and by that I mean what villian really creeped you out?

I really love how Ninjtje portrays Debra in her fic Memories. She's totally obsessed over Kevin and ready to rip apart anyone that stands in her way. Who doesn't love an obsessed fan? lol And she's so delusional. I mean she's like reading bridal magazines and telling everyone she's getting married when Kevin's barely spoke to her... She's definitely one of my favorite villans from a fic.

I also liked how Anstacia and shrinkingviole t portrayed Nick in Bring me to Life if you would really consider him a villian. After Chey decided to work things out w/ Howie, Nick got really pretty scary there and did some pretty messed up things, but the whole time you felt bad for him and kind of just wished he'd find himself a nice girl to help him clean up his act and move on.

17) What really turns you off of a story?
Title: Re: 21 questions!
Post by: nicksgal on January 12, 2007, 01:08:29 AM
17) Really cliche plots, characters, or events. I mean, yes, sometimes it's the cliche stuff that's the most popular, but everybody's been around fan fiction long enough, at least in reading, to know what's been done. And if it will be a cliche idea, people ought to at least put a fresh spin on it. That and poor spelling or grammar, since it's so easily fixed, yet a lot of authors refuse to fix it.

18) Off the top of your head, what was the most cliche event/plot/character you've ever seen and how would you twist it to make it interesting?

Oh I think its the girl band touring for BSB bit. Thats been done so many times I have that plot burned into my poor abandoned teeny portion of my brain that shall never be used again. What would I do? I wouldn't even let that be the drive for the story, oh sure it'd start out that way, until news of a new species inavding the world came in, and only a few people remain in what seems to be armagaddon. The war and destruction comes slow and sneaky like while the BSB and said girl band tour, until it finally strikes america and the boys are among those who try to stand strong ala Independence day.

But that's just me lol.

19. What is the freshest story idea you've seen that inspired a story of yours? (Not fresh as in OUT there, but just really interesting and creative)

I once read a story - sadly I've forgotten the name of it - where a fan is standing outside the arena hoping to catch a glimpse of the Boys [yes, yes, I know - the usual, but I'm getting there] & Brian waves at her when he spots her & stuff. Then eventually she's let inside & all these wonderful things happen. I believe it was snowing out too. So anyway, all these wonderful things happen & then suddenly she hears someone rapping on a window & she blinks & she's back to reality, where Brian is standing on the otherside of the window. He asks her if she's cold & she says no, so she doesn't get let in or anything - it turned out she'd daydreamed the whole thing!

That fic inspired me to write one very similar to it - I put my own twist on things, I believe in mine it was rainging. Of course, mine has the happier ending - but it's still similar - I just am not sure how similar - but I did give her credit for it [as best I could-I'm not one to remember authors-just fic titles-lol] in an author's note. And no, that fic is not on absolutechaos - it's on my Dream Boys site - so feel free to check it out if yah want. And if you remember what one it's like, pelase tell me.

Most of my fics though, are usually based on dreams or are something I cooked up when I'd too much time on my hands [which is pretty much always-lol]

20) [we're almost there people!] What kind of BSB crossovers do you enjoying reading? Like BSB/TMNT or BSB/N*SYNC or whatever.

Whew that was a long quote! Heh, it's all good.

21) Hmm... I'd have to say BSB and... I don't like this one because I don't read too many crossovers. Probably BSB/N*SYNC or something like that. I know it's a weak answer... sorry! (Moves on to make a new thread)
