Title: Let's ring in the new year with some praise!
Post by: RokofAges75 on December 31, 2008, 12:38:13 AM
I'm not sure what to call this thread, but basically, it's officially the last day of 2008, and I thought this would be a nice chance for us to lift ourselves and each other up with some well-deserved praise.  This thread is part Author Inquisition, part Shameless Plugs, and part survey.  Here are the questions for your consideration. ..

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

I thought of sort of a challenge to go along with this thread, but I'll wait and see how many responses it gets before I post that.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008? Um, well I'd have to say writing Being Jamie Baker was my biggest accomplishment this year. It was my first absolutely 100% original fiction, and without having the boys to draw from I was surprised at what a challenge it was. I can usually write a novel in 4-6 months, Jamie took me over 8.

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.Again I'm going to go with Jamie Baker on this one. I think my writing in Fan Friction has it's moments, but as an overall story I think Jamie pulls you in and keeps you there up until the end. (At least I really hope so!)  http://www.fictionpress.com/s/2500230/1/Being_Jamie_Baker

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008). This is super hard because I'm proud of a lot of my stories for a lot of different reasons. I guess I'd say If We Were A Movie because not only do I still just love it too pieces, it got such a great response and was nominated for a few fiction press awards. People got really attached to my characters in that one and that always makes me proud.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or under-appreciated, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.Ooh, I'd def say In The Shadows!! I am in love with this fic! My amazing co-writer Sarah just blows my socks off, and I think that the two of us together just make each other reach our potential a lot of the time. We also come up with some great stuff because two heads are better than one. This one isn't read all that much because we don't update enough, but it's soooo fun. It's Brian as Batman! But the other guys are all in it enough that it has those great "group moments" too. Anyway, it may very well be my favorite of all my stories and I think that's because Sarah's beautiful angst balances out all my sarcastic fluff rather nicely. http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8626

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.  Ooh, this is super easy!

My Mind's Eye by your_ill_july
Summary: "Lonely is a man without love."
Suffering through a seemingly loveless marriage, and a lack of friends writer Nick Carter finds himself a desperate man, alone in a crowd and looking for something to fill the voids in his life. When Alaina swings into his world, she turns it upside down.
http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8872&warning=4

This story is just written so beautifully and is extremely captivating and easy to relate to! I fell in love by the end of chapter one and will wait patiently for each and every update. It's hardly read at all because it's this authors only posted story and it's an AU about just Nick, but I promise it's so worth the read!!!

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it. This would have to be the same as the question above. Seriously, beautiful fic!!! One of my favorites!! Oh, and another one that was started this year called Call Of Darkness by Monkeyabu and Starry Eyes is off to a good start. http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewuser.php?uid=319 There's only three chapters of this one so far, but it's well written and it makes me wonder what is going to happen, so I often find myself wondering when they are going to update. Not that many stories on AC do that for me anymore.

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.Um, I'd say Erika(Kevmylove) definitely impressed me this year. I'd read some of her earlier stuff, but when I read Sinister Devotion, I was really surprised at how far she's come as a writer. I can see a ton of progress! Not to mention, that I really, really enjoy the story! It's very unique, and AJ(or I should say Jack) is such a fascinating character. Mad props to you hun, you deserve it!

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they? Well I am going to take my original fiction and do my bestest to find an agent this year. Bring on the rejection letters!! lol Keep your fingers crossed for me!  I also would like to finish at least Fan Friction this year, and I'm still in the air about this sci-fi I started when I got stuck. I may write that one too... But I don't really have any intentions to write any new fan fic, so I'd like to make the goal to finish up as much of the in-progress stories I've got going as I can. Hopefully I'll find my motivation again, but after this year, it's just not necessarily looking that way, so we'll see.

I'll have a think about what to answer for the survey though  :)

I kinda forgot you guys were writing this story... I'll have to check it out!  I wasn't so sure the superhero stuff was up my alley, but I have gotten caught up on my Batman lately, with The Dark Knight coming out, so I'm probably in the right mood for it.  Plus, who doesn't love Brian being all hot and angsty and vigilanteish, right?  LOL

LOL Julie that is a wonderful question. I don't know who wouldn't love that. Plus it's a lot about him being the Avenging Angel, but it's kind of more about The FBI lady investigating him, but falling for him at the same time, so while yes, it kind of is a super-hero story, he still doesn't have any super powers, so it isn't too much super-hero for those who don't like that kind of thing. At least I don't think it is...  But thanks hun! I'd be excited if you checked it out and I know Sarah would too!  Oh, and speaking of Sarah, I totally get to meet her today!!! YAY I'm super excited!

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

I would have to say actually finishing The Thirteenth Step. I was in such a negative fanfic writing place this year and really wanted to quit altogether and truthfully still do, but even feeling that way I decided to crack down and finish the story and I'm so glad I did. I plan on finishing off the other two I'm working on before the end of the school year.

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

I would say A Day in the Life of a Lima Bean would probably be the best thing I have written this year even though it's almost more than a year old.

http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8674&chapter=2

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

This is a tough one because like Kelly said, for the most part I'm proud of most of my stuff for different reasons and the answer to this question will probably change from day to day. I have to say it's a tie between two of them. Season's of Change (The second story of Mel's Tree) and Shadow Woods.

Season's because I just feel like it was the best writing I've done to date. Most of that story came from my heart and overall it seemed to really touch people way more than anything I've ever written before.

Shadow Woods because it really flowed nicely and seemed to really surprise people with the twist it took at the end. I love surprising people like that.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

I don't know if any of my stuff is really undiscovered but because I started writing such a long time ago there are a lot of stories I wrote earlier on that I feel like a lot of the newer people don't even know exist. Not to sound full of myself lol but I think most of them are worthy of checking out. I feel like some of that stuff is much better than the stuff I'm writing now because I had more passion for writing fanfics at the time. But if I had to pick one...hrmm I guess I'd go with Separate Ways. It's the only time I've written a totally fictitious family around the real life boys. Nick's family was completely fabricated and in that process I fell in love with the older brother I created for him. It's probably the only story where I've had a female co-lead in as well and chapters where it was just the brother and the girl and nothing about the boys at all. I guess it's the furthest from a me story you could get but yet I think it's a very me story at the same time.

http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=692

I don't plug myself all that often but if you are looking for totally BSB centered stuff to read like the old days of fanfic, check out my earlier stuff. Okay enough about me...what do YOU think about me? lmao  :P

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

Again, this is a tough one because I haven't really read all that much lately but an oldie but a goodie that I hope people would check out is a short story called The One With Nick by Mersey. Everyone knows she's one of my favorite authors (and people) but this story kind of sums up why. It's simple with so many layers and so beautifully written. I hope you guys check it out.

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

I am very sad to say that not only has my passion for writing waned over the years but my passion for reading has as well. There aren't that many stories I've read over the past few years but I can say the one I did discover this year and found I really am enjoying when it's updated (Which isn't very often) is Thicker Than Blood by Rebellious One. Whenever I can find a summary that has me intrigued enough to actually open the story it's always a bonus but, then the plot just kind of sucked me in. It's a very unique story with a lot of action and twists and turns. Plus, I always have a soft spot for fics where the boys are brothers as long as it's well written.

http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8918

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

I would have to say Kelly has impressed me with her writing overall this year. That would be Honey. She knows I haven't read a whole lot by her because the stories she writes aren't usually the kind I will read, but what I admired most about her is how she allowed herself to step so far out of her comfort zone to try new things. She wrote original fics, different fandoms and started a suspense which showed her true talent for diversity. I think that takes guts and real passion for writing. Kudos to her!

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

I guess like I said earlier, my goal is to finish the two fanfics I'm currently working on and then to really focus my attention on my original fics. Lima has been calling my name but I've been ignoring her, mostly because I'm scared to just jump out there and do it.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

Of 2008? lol Um...Oh to start turning a fanfic into Original Fiction. It's further along than I've ever posted. It's been a long time since I've done OF so it feels good to convert a story to that just to see if I can. It's not done yet, but I'm happy with what it is so far.

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

The best? I would probably say Born To Be. I feel that idea is really one of my better ones, plus I managed to keep Nick a BSB which I don't do very often lol.
http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8954

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

00Carter. It's not completely mine, but it's totally taken on a life of it's own. It's diverse, it has interesting characters, it's got action and it's hilarious. So I'm very proud of what a random line about Nick and hot cocoa turned into.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

Of my own? I'd say Born To Be. It doesn't get a lot of attention. It's fantasy sure, but it's also an interesting story basically all about possibilities and destiny once it gets deep enough. The boys are still BSB but not in the way you'd expect them to be.

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

Someone else's story...
It hasn't been updated in awhile, but I discovered this cute story called "Calling Nick Devine". It's an original twist on a guardian angel story. Only two chapters in, but I really liked a new take on an overdone plot line.

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9200

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8904

How to Save A Life. I'm wishing this was updated more. It's inspired by a Nickelback music video, but to turn the whole thing in a story so Nick could save people to keep his own life span going? Very new fanfic concept.

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

Julie. This already awesome writer who rocks at anything romance or medical related, surprised me with ideas we came up with not only for a new project between her, me, and Dee...but with 00Carter in general. She swears she's not good with sci-fi but brainstorms a whole sci-fi episode and does her parts quite well. Then she turns around and does that horror challenge that was so well written and flowed nicely that I was really impressed. She keeps saying she's not that versatile, but from what I've seen, she doesn't realize how well rounded she really is.

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

To finish Divisions of Reality. It's getting close to the end lol, so I'd love to finish it. Finish Rehab. To post my new collab project eventually.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?
Finally finishing By My Side, my 202-chapter, 817774-word, four-years-in-the-making epic sequel LOL.  And yeah, the fact that I actually wrote a story that long from beginning to end is a source of pride for me too LOL.

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.
At first I was thinking 00Carter, cause my creativity is always piqued by that story and it's easy to give each scene 110% when you're only responsible for a few of them.  But I have to go back to the end of BMS.  I had had the ending of that story planned out for almost four years before I actually got to write it, and after that long, I was afraid I would disappoint myself, that even my best attempt at writing what had been playing out in my head just wouldn't do it justice.  It happens a lot.  But I am really happy with how the last few chapters of that story turned out.  They may be cheesy, but they're also powerful, to me at least.  At this point, I wouldn't change a thing.  http://accidentalchaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8030

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).
00Carter.  It's not my own story; it's just a collaboration I'm lucky enough to be part of, but I am proud of the writing I've contributed to it and even prouder of the work we've done together as a team.  I was hesitant to join that team at first because the basic premise, in the beginning, was "Nick as James Bond," and at the time, I'd only seen one Bond fic and still find it hard to get into them.  Come to find out, most of the other ten writers who joined in the beginning were the same way, and so two years later, the product of our collective random minds has become so much more than a James Bond spoof.  I think it's the most creative, brilliant, hilarious story I've ever been a part of, and I'm proud to have a hand in it.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.
I wrote a short story called "The World Will Know Your Name" back in April, the first short I'd done in a loooong time.  The idea had been in my head for a few months, but because I was hell bent on finishing BMS before I started anything new, I had put it in the backseat for awhile.  I finally brought it to life and was (and still am) really happy with how it turned out.  It only got two reviews on AC... I'm not sure if that's because it fell through the cracks, being a one-shot, or the summary just didn't hook people, or because it was an AJ fic, not Nick, or people just didn't like it, but I like it because it's something different from me, being a short story and narrated in first person, so I'll throw it out there again.  http://accidentalchaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8970

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.
In scrolling through my AC favorites, I noticed quite a few of the stories I love only have a few reviews, but for most of them, I figure it's because they were posted on other websites a long time ago, and the authors have other readers who left them feedback through their own sites.  But I was surprised by the lack of response to this one... http://accidentalchaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=6563  "Satin and Silk" by Julilly.  We know her as a suspense/supernatural writer, thanks to her brilliant "Hawk and a Handsaw," but this is a very sweet, historical romance from her, AND it's already finished, which means no waiting for updates.  It's something different from all the other Nick romances that are out there, and it's a quick read, only 15 chapters.  I definitely think it's more deserving than than the five reviews it got, two of which are from Mare and me.  Check it out!

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.
I'm torn between two:  "How to Save a Life" by Pengi and "Fan Friction" by Honey.  They're both excellent suspense fics with interesting, different premises.  My only complaint with both of them is that they don't get updated often enough.  Especially your fic, Pengi!  Here are the links:
How to Save a Life - http://accidentalchaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8904
Fan Friction - http://accidentalchaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8964

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.
I'm impressed with Jen, aka FrickFrackGirl .  After years of being one of the best readers any writer could ask for (she sends awesome feedback and gushes about the stories she likes all over LD LOL), she decided to give writing a try this year, and now, at the end of 2008, she already has seven stories to her name on AC.  She's done challenges, songfics, and even started a novel, so I think she deserves some love back!  http://accidentalchaos.net/viewuser.php?uid=961

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?
I want to get back to writing more often than I have been lately.  I want to continue my new story, "Secrets of the Heart," and really get into it.  I would love us to write more than three episodes a year of 00Carter, but I don't have much control over that LOL.  I would like to read more fanfic too.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

Just writing anything. My muse was dormant for a looong time (okay so I had an awfully good excuse for a while, but then after that...just couldn't seem to make myself write anything. So, my biggest writing accomplishment this year was simply to get my pen on the paper and writing something. (Or okay, putting my fingers on the keyboard and typing, but you get the idea...)

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

This year...I'm really partial to "His Holiday", but perhaps that's because it's the first solo story I did this year. It does need a little polishing up (I re-read it and am a bit embarassed at a few things a beta reader surely would have called me on, but overall I like how it turned out) I thought it was a bit more original than a lot of my other stuff (I admit that I tend to have a very similar theme to a lot of my stories, and this one was a bit different...)

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9460 (http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9460)

Quote
"Oh joy. It’s that special time of year again, and all the little hospital ‘elves’ are scurrying about in ridiculous outfits and planning some grand Sacred Heart Holiday--not party, oh no, not a party according to the fliers that are posted every two feet along the corridor walls in case someone somewhere somehow misses the seven or eight posted at every single nurses’ station or the twelve in the cafeteria, so no, not a party--Fiesta!

I don’t want to sound cliché or anything, but Bah Humbug."

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

Of all my stories, I'm probably most proud of "Well...Maybe One Power". This will probably surprise a lot of people because well...I think it's the one story I've ever written that got only one "review" on the multiple sites that it was posted on. People either didn't read it, or for whatever reason didn't like it, BUT to me I thought it was one of my better ones. It was a more "original" story, and I thought it was one of the funnier stories I've ever written (with some amusing "angst" thrown in).

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

My Perfect Day http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9336 (http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9336) is one I'm co-writing, and I think it's largely undiscovered because it's in a small fandom (Scrubs). I think it's got a lot of the elements that people like(d) about my BSB fic Ground Zero (suspence, angst, and yet mixed with quite a bit of humor), so I think that if given the chance it, too, would be appreciated.

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

I'm not sure that I'd say it's undiscovered exactly, but I do think underappreciat ed is Honey's No Such Thing as the Boogeyman http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8549 (http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8549). I think, again, it's a matter of it being in a not-much-represented fandom on this site (though the Supernatural section of the site does appear to be getting a little bit more popular of late. Yay Supernatural!) I'm not a big fanfic reader these days (sorry ya'll) but this one grabbed my attention and kept me reading through the whole story (which with my attention span--or lack thereof--is pretty impressive). There's a lot of twists, lots of suspence. It keeps you guessing without ever doing anything unbelievable (for the fandom). Plus, one of my favorite features, is that it has bits of humor strewn throughout. And she does an excellent job keeping the Winchester boys in character.

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Again I'll admit that I haven't read a whole lot this year. On this site, I'd go with the aforementioned story by Honey. Counting other sites, I really enjoyed My Rescue Blues by SkyPad (written in 2006-7, but I only discovered it in late 2008...as always I'm late to the party!) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3281868/1/My_Rescue_Blues (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3281868/1/My_Rescue_Blues)

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

Once again I have to admit I didn't really read much here on AC this year, but I'll say that Mare and Julilly highly impress me with the way they've kept this site running rather smoothly and keeping the discussions flowing, etc, here on the boards. And their writing, of course, always impresses me as well! So thanks you two!

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

I do. It's to write at least a little bit every single day--even if it's just a paragraph or two. While the end-goal is to finish all my in-progress fics and to finish my original novel, I've discovered this year that trying to force myself to work on a story just because I haven't updated it in a while just doesn't work. It's not until I let myself start writing new things that I started being able to work on my in-progress things again, so...my resolution is just to write and let the rest of it come as it does. (Very zen, I know...)

Aww, shucks you guys, is there a blushing smiley? There is a lot of Honey love in this thread. Thank you so much, Julie, Mare and Chaos! That just made my day.

Julie, I really do have to apologize for the lack of updates! But I'm done with Jamie (well practically) so hopefully they will be more frequent. I also need to go read How TOo Save A Life, because I've onl ever heard the BEST things about this story and Pengi...

And Mare, you just made me feel all warm and fuzzy, but honestly I sort of have to blame you for my diversity, because it started with all of your monthly challenges (this months looks super hard, btw. thanks. :P) And then I only ever started a few of the stories because of you and all your romance hating talk. It always made me think I needed to broaden my horizons, and then it was like I just had to see if I could do it. For some reason, even though I haven't read much of your stuff, you always manage to push me in my own writing. Can't really explain why, but you do... So thank you for that.

And YAY Chaos!!! Thank you so much for reading my story and I'm happy that you enjoyed it! All of your praise honestly made me blush. *I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!* Especially because coming from you it means a lot because I just love your writing. I'm seriously so happy to see you updating again and have made it my mission to read your SN stories this week while things are still kind of slow for me. (HAHA I need a Supernatural fix BAD!)

Also, I have to agree with Chaos that Mare and Julilly ROCK! they impress me all the time with the amount of time and effort that spend keeping this site going! WOOT for the mods!

Oh, and Rose is right about Julie! Every time I read anything of Julie's (which I'm ashamed to admit who little that is) I'm always impressed! I should go check out The World Will Know Your Name.

Looks like I've got some reading to do!

Btw, thank you, Rose and Kelly!  I'm flattered by what Rose said and Kelly agreed with.  :)  I think 2008 gave me a lot of opportunities to break out of the "Nick medical drama" mold people saw me in (because that's what I had been writing for five years straight LOL), which was both challenging and fun.  I didn't write as much last year as I'm used to writing in a year, but I am really proud of what I did write.  Quality over quantity, right? LOL  I'm really excited about the projects I have going on for 2009!
Title: Re: Let's ring in the new year with some praise!
Post by: Rose on January 01, 2009, 11:47:38 PM
It's been great seeing you break free of that mold. Because of CB and then of course Broken and BMS, when we first started 00Carter, I was wondering how you'd do. And this year you just shattered any thought of you not being able to do something that I had.

Kelly, I recommend Julie's challenge story for...August? I just know I made her to a horror and it's fabulous...tho ugh very UNFINISHED! lol.
Title: Re: Let's ring in the new year with some praise!
Post by: RokofAges75 on January 01, 2009, 11:54:01 PM
LOL I was wondering too.  That, along with the fact that I had no real interest in James Bond, was why I was hesitent to sign up for 00Carter in the first place, aside from making graphics and Flash movies, if you'll remember LOL.  So I kinda proved it to myself that I am capable of more than drama LOL.

Yeah, it was August, and I do still need to do the continuation of that, but I have to be in the right mindset to do it, that very dark, gory place, and I haven't gotten myself to that place since then LOL.  I guess I need to bust out the Saw DVD sometime.

Anything with very graphic killings right lol.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

Just writing at all. There were many times that I thought my well had dried up, and that I would have no more ideas but they still came. They came few and far between but they came.

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

I honestly don't believe that anything I wrote this year was really that noteworthy. Like I said, it's been a tough year. I feel like a lot of what I wrote lacked substance.

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

As You Are is probably my favourite, followed by Hawk and a Handsaw.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

I think the things I've written have recieved more praise than I expected they would. They all have the praise they deserve... so I'll just link to all of them http://accidentalchaos.net/viewuser.php?uid=56 (http://accidentalchaos.net/viewuser.php?uid=56)

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

I honestly haven't read much new stuff this year. I've been kind of reliving the past through my fanfic. There is though, a returning author that has caught my attention because of her original ideas.

Everyone knows I love AU - it's my thing, really. What I love most is when someone really tries to come up with an original way of presenting the past, and FiliKlepto does that with On The Rails. I love the concept and I think there's great potential there.

http://accidentalchaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9453 (http://accidentalchaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9453)

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

I guess I've already done that, so see above!

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

Although it was late in the year -- Chaos. He jumped back on the bandwagon with a vigor that I only wish I could emulate.

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

Hawk and a Handsaw is going to be finished in early 2009.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

I started writing again.  Thanks to Reb and Sel I found out Fan Fics were still really popular.  I missed writing period so I figured what a better way to get back into it than BSB Fan Fics.

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

My Breathless Mistress http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8953&warning=4

I love the concept of the story and how it turned out. Coming from the view of AJ and his diary.

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

That would be Pixcadia - http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8878

it's an AU story and I'm really proud of the way it's turned out and the fact I've pulled in Non AU readers with it. Au's can be hard to write and you can get lost in the details.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

Pixcadia - http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8878

I think people see AU and turn away from it but I tried to keep my writing simple so people don't get caught in small details and get lost or confused. I put in many unexpected twists and turns. ;)

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

Monkey_Abu's A Second Chance. http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8776&warning=5

I love how this story is written, there's a lot of emotion in it, good, bad, hot n heavy. lol  I really like it and I think you will too.

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Obscure Smiles - http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8588

and its' sequels, they're about AJ and him becoming a Dad.  Very sad but very well written stories.

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

I would say Monkey Abu - http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewuser.php?uid=319

I love her writing, the detail and emotion she puts into her stories.  It keeps you wanting to read even when you have to stop and wait for updates. lol

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

I would say that I would like to try and write a horror story but I don't like scary movies and I've always had trouble scaring people through my writing. lol So it would be something new and interesting.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

Well, I'm still pretty new to fanfics and writing so I think to have written the few I've done is quite something for me.

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

I think Never Gone is the best story I've written so far http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9381&warning=4

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

Patience, this is a Take That fic and is the first one I ever wrote and over on a Take That site the readers seemed to enjoy it.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

Never Gone.  I don't think it's under appreciated or anything, but I think it's not a bad story.

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9381&warning=4

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

I've not had a chance to read as much as I'd like yet, so I can't really answer this one.  I've loved everything I've read.

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Without a doubt it's Sinister Devotion by kevmylove.  What I like about it is the way that it's different to anything I've ever read before.  I love the way it's written, I love the main character Jack, the detail that's gone into writing it, and the way I'm always left wanting more!!

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9374

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

Rachel (BSBSavedMyLife) because she seems to have a never ending supply of ideas for her fics and I like the way she writes about the boys.  Also because she introduced me to this place  :)

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

To carry on writing!

So, I'm back. I was in an accident and broke two of my fingers. Of course I come back with a survey, because I'm love them... ha.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

Well, I only finished one story, which was Illusions of Deceit. I guess it was a pretty big accomplishment for me though, because I'd been playing with the idea for a while and because it was my first time writing in third person.

Here's the link to the story: http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9214&warning=4

I have one other story posted, but it isn't very good yet. I'm re-vamping now.

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

Wow... I have to think... especially since I only finished one story.

My favorite chapter in Illusions is when Brian finally joins the group again, which is a spoiler, but it's an obvious one... the beginning of the chapter begins with my female lead (a Backstreet acquaintance, but not necessarily fan) listening to old Backstreet Boys songs because she's about to accompany Brian to the other four Boys' concert. Brian walks in and teasing ensues.

Here's the link: http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9214&chapter=20

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

I only wrote one that I'm proud of at all... well, that's not really true because I've had good ideas, but whatever. I'm just going to skip over this question instead of sounding repetitive.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

Once again, the link to Illusions. I guess taking the first half of this survey was kind of lame for me, but whatever. I think that it was a good, solid romance with a different kind of idea. It wasn't necessarily Boy-meets-girl and a whirlwind romance ensues. It had a different kind of direction.

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9214&warning=4

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

Unsuspecting Sunday Afternoon by Dani:
http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8728

Casual By Cabybakes: (Which I have reviewed yet and I'm sorry!)
http://www.absolutechaos.net/search.php

Both are well written stories that have kept me interested. I get obsessive over things, so if you can get me interested, I'll more or less read the whole thing in an entire day, which I did with both of these.

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Either of the above stories. I read them both this (well, now LAST) year.

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

I think that everyone that posts here regularly is definitely a good writer. I haven't really kept up with anything-- which I feel bad about, especially since my fingers were broken. I guess that I should have caught up on my fanfic reading, but instead I got caught up in Twilight, which I said I would never do. That, of course, is for another time.

I'm going to go with Caby. I think that she's an excellent writer with a new spin on a old idea. (Hopefully, that didn't sound insulting... if I did, I didn't mean it that way.)

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

Write more. Write better. Edit the second story that I have posted to make it better.

I'm pretty new to writing but thought I'd give this a shot.

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?
Plus Size and Plus Size Part 2. It was the first story I ever posted online and a story that means a lot to me.
2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

Going to say Plus Size. I think for a first attempt it wasn't that bad.

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

Probably Plus Size. I sometimes feel my writing isn't as good as that story. But I'm still new to all this.

http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9063

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

Possibly SHMILY. http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9227

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

Lenni's Christmas Challenge story. Her writing of the relationship between Tesia and AJ is amazing. She very good at showing the dynamic between the siblings and how AJ is more of a father figure to Tesia than a brother.
http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9456

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Sinister Devotion and Ray of Hope both by kevmylove. Both are incredibly written with great detail and character development.
http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9205&warning=5
http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9374&warning=4

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

kevmylove. For reasons I wrote in #6

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

To write more, I have a lot of ideas swirling in my head. And to definetly write BETTER!! I want to be able to develope my characters more and to have more detail to things.

I have been lurking in this thread and I am just now getting around to answering this survey.  Here goes...happy new year, everyone!

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?
The fact that I started writing again alone is a huge accomplishment .  Casual is the first thing I have written since 2002!!!

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

I can't think of a particular part, but Casual in general, I guess...it is all I've written this year!

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

Probably Casual...I think I have grown quite a bit as a writer since I started writing again in 2008...

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

The only story I will currently cop to is Casual, and it is the only one on AC.

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8947&warning=5

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

I adore "All Hail the Heartbreaker" by TantalisinTeas er.  I'm not sure if it is under read or under appreciated, but it is one of my favorites currently being updated.

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9068&warning=4

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Probably "Unsuspecting Sunday Afternoon" by DaniGiggles... love the premise and it is just so so so good...a must read...

http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8728

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

I think Mel...she worked so hard to show growth in Alyssa's character from UMS to ALTOS...I am really proud of her and I think she did a fantastic job handling delicate subject manner with class.

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

I would like to finish Casual...I am in the home stretch.  Of course, I think we all say we would like to write more.  Once I finish Casual I may start another one, not sure.  I am more of a reader by nature, and the reason I usually start writing is when I have ran out of things to read that peak my interest, so we shall see!

I started two new stories that I’m mostly proud of, and I’ve put a lot of work into. Ray of Hope and Sinister Devotion…which are getting good responses.

2. What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year? It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene. Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.
Wow, it’s a tie between the two mentioned in #1. Ray of Hope-I started due to personal experiences, it’s not always easy to be a big girl and sometimes you really underestimate yourself and ruin relationships with people, cause you don’t believe that others can like or love you just the way you are. http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9205&warning=5

Sinister Devotion-I decided to try something out of my element...Here is a paragraph: Since I have a odd feeling about this job, I will give you the details. Only because I have the oddest feeling about it. I think my fate is going to catch up with me. His name is Kevin Richardson, I don’t know why he’s been chosen, I just know that I have to give him a visit. I have special instructions, it’s something I’ve never done before, but I was highly recommended and I shouldn’t let down those that believe in what I can do. The special instructions are that on my mission I must include Mr. Richardson’s first born. http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9374&warning=4

3. Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why? (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008). Same answer as #2.

4. Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.
Hum...I would have to say 'All You Wanted' I don't think it's an awful story and if so I would like to know what I could do to make it better.

5. Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed. Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.
I haven't really read much lately, and the stories that I have read, seem to be well appreciated and discovered. *Shrug* I'll do more reading this year.

6. What was the best story you discovered in 2008? Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.
It's definately ‘Life According to Baylee’ by Kristal (alota_cookin) I just love that story and the concept of it. She makes Baylee as a teen so real (I mean we know he’s real, but we have no idea what he’ll be like at that age.) Plus she made Kevin so different than most of us make him in our stories, the one that causes most of the problems. She’s a great writer, and I’m so happy she got Featured Story of the Month. Yay!

7. Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.
I would have to say Kelly (Honey) cause even though she disappeared from updating her fan fiction, she has taken the plunge to write an original fiction AND it’s supernatural something a lot of us can’t pull off, I think. I just started reading it and it’s a great read. It’s really well written and I’m loving it…I’m hooked actually.

8. Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009? If so, what are they?
Oh yes, to finish one or two of my stories. To read more and hopefully also start an original fiction at some point before the year is over.

By the way thank you to Kelly, Steph and Krystal I have put a lot more time and effort to my new stories, I'm honored to be mentioned. Thank you once again. *Squee*

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

I honestly don't think there really was one.. I just couldn't seem to get myself to writing anymore

2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

I am proud though of "Fireflies". For me, it's been an awfully dificult story to write (hence the lack of updates), but still I'm proud of where (I know) it's going (cause hopefully a lot of you have no idea yet).  Below is an excerpt from chapter 3.

Quote
Great,’ I muttered. “Just the one place I planned on avoiding today.” I threw my hands up in the sky, and being the drama king I am, I yelled “Why?!” I decided that wasn’t working either (I knew it wouldn't, but hey, it felt good), so I turned around and ran in the opposite direction.

I kept running like an idiot, not wanting to know if things would happen again if I stayed in that area. The surroundings changed a bit, which almost made me jump for joy. But five minutes later, I had absolutely NO reason to be happy about anything. Why? Because I ended up in the exact same spot AGAIN! Crazy, right? You can’t do that unless you run in circles. Well, I can tell you, I did NOT run in circles!! The path was couldn’t be any more straight if it wanted to. I did NOT turn around or took a wrong turn, because I only ran straight forward!

I stood still for a moment, with my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath. Then I lifted my head, kept my eyes closed and said to myself: “This is not happening. This is not happening. This is NOT real. THIS IS NOT REAL.”

When I opened my eyes, I could only admit it was really happening. I WAS in the same spot, with the same rocks and the same carved tree. This time I just screamed out of frustration and a hint of fear as well. I felt like I had gone crazy, no, I was certain that I had. And there was nobody there to convince me I was not. I can tell you, I have never felt more lonely. But things were about to get even worse before they got better.

After a moment of feeling sorry for myself, I realized I had two options. One was to wallow in self-pity and stay put. The other was to try to get out of there. It didn’t feel like I had much of a choice, so off I ran. AGAIN.
I ran and I ran and I ran. Only to find myself in the goddamn same spot for another three times. By then, I was ready to dig myself a pity hole, crawl into it and wait for the unevitable, whatever that may be.

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

The story I'm definitely most proud of is (obviously?) "Prevailing Fate" (co-written with A-rok Obsession). Why? Because we finished it  :D and the story seemed to have touched a lot of readers.

I'm also very proud of "She's gone. And so am I." because I tried a very different writing style and I think I did okay.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

I'm not sure there is one that fits that category. I think I may have a group of readers or people just seem to evenly read all of them. But since I'm in love with "She's gone. And so am I.", I'd love it if more people would read (and review?) it.

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

Sadly I haven't been reading a lot of fanfic either this year. But I really like Satan's Playground by Rebellious_One . http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8556
It's definitely worth reading because it's scary but you just can't stop reading even though a part of you doesn't want to know what's about to happen. And second, it's different from a lot of other fanfics which always is a big plus in my eyes.

I'm also in love with "In the shadows" by Honey and Starbeamz2. http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8626 Partly because they tell a great story about a darker Brian, (and they make you understand why he's that way now)but also because of the cute way they portray Baylee  :D

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Can I choose two?

"It's your party, Howie, you can cry if you want to" by Honey. http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9211
It's just hilarious and she did an amazing job at writing a "Choose your own adventure"-story. I know it's very difficult, but she made it seem easy.

"A million little things" by Mare. http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9114
Because she again writes this story in such a way that I could easily believe all this happened in real life.

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

Sorry to say that I'm not that sure other than the authors who always impress me with their writing skills (Honey, Mare, Rebellious_One, etc etc).

Wait! I know! Sapphire impressed me because she chose to write about a subject that's been fairly untouched by BSB-fan fic writers (at least to my knowledge). The subject being a Backstreet Boy falling in love with a plus-sized girl. If I remember correctly she's new to writing, so I think it's brave to already think outside the fanfic-paths that lead to ' Mary-Sue-like-romance-stories'.

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

I wanna write more! (And try to improve my writing skills as well!)

Oh, and as always, thanks for all the Honey love!  I love that you love In The Shadows! You're totally our biggest fan! And LMAO that you love "It's your party, Howie"!

Aww, thanks Erika! I got all giddy when I found your Jamie reviews! I always get so excited when people give my original stuff a chance. (And I'm sorry about dropping the ball on the fan fic, but like I said that's going to be something I'm going to work on this year.)

And, you're totally welcome. Like I said, I can tell that you've worked really hard on your writing this year. I love to see people making so much progress, and I'm glad that you're getting the recognition for it! You've earned it!

I'm a little late here, but my work schedule's finally slowing so I'm hoping to be able to be around a whole lot more and get back into reading and writing  ;D

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

Wow... well probably finishing my first ever story (Unsaid Goodbyes) and following up with a whole bunch of others.  That's been really fun and exciting!
2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?

Hmm... I think my best piece of writing from this year would have to be either "For the Rest of My Life" or "Someone's Miracle" -- my favorite quote from a story would be from SM;

"His words were soft, his voice not quite perfect, but the intent with which he sang his song was absolutely beautiful.  He held her hand and sang her soul right out of her body and up into the heavens, where he hoped she could hear his voice... where he hoped she knew he loved her."

3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

Someone's Miracle -- because it was probably the most difficult story I've ever written and because there is so much meaning behind it.  It is emotional, sad and uplifting all at the same time... and I love the characters.

4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

For the Rest of My Life
http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9113

The story is based upon stories I've been told by couples overcoming the struggle of living while their loved one dies from cancer.  I still can't read it without crying... and I wrote it...

5.  Switching over to praise for other writers, give us a link to someone ELSE'S story that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed.  Again, tell us why you think this story is worthy of being read.

The World Will Know Your Name (RockofAges75) -- I have read this short story so many times and I absolutely LOVE it.  It's touching and beautiful and so worthy of praise.

6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Children Like Me -- Mersey
http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=8302

I've gotta give her props for bringing the Winchesters into a BSB fanfic and I must say, even though I'm not typically a sci-fi fan, she had me hooked from the first sentence!

7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

Mare -- of course I'm newer to the AC and therefore newer to the older stories but I have read and loved more stories of Mares than I count.  She's an amazing writer... the stories could be about anyone and I'd read them.

8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?

Get back to writing.  Working 60-70 hours/week over the holidays really threw a wedge in the writing thing. I'm looking forward to having time off again to just relax and write.

Well yeah, I do! And that you should be proud of, cause I ain't that much of a Howie-kinda-girl lol..

About the posting thing, I knoooooooooooo w!

First off, both your stories I included in my quote piqued my interest from the description you gave, so I will definitely have to check them out!  This is why I love this thread... I'm not sure I've ever read anything by you, so I'm curious to read these stories I may not have found on my own!

Second, thanks! ;D  I remember the review you left for my story came as such an unexpected surprise to me!

1.  What was your biggest writing- or fanfic-related accomplishment of 2008?

For me I think my biggest writing accomplishment is the fact that I had the chance to post several stories of mine on here and completed them. (lol usually it takes me a while to finish a story)
2.  What do you feel was the best piece of writing you did this year?  It can be a whole story or just a certain chapter or scene.  Give us a link or, if it's a really short excerpt (like a paragraph), post it here.

My best piece of writing this year would have to be my response to the October challenge "A Halloween Tale With A Backstreet Twist." This was the first story that I wrote and have completed. The other would be the story "Authorized Personnel Only: Safest Place to Hide" which I am currently still updating and have not completed. This particular story has been going on in my head for sometime and I have written different versions of it but I'm glad to say that I was satisfied with what I came up with so far for that story.

"A Halloween Tale With a Backstreet Twist"
http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9261

"APO: Safest Place To Hide"
http://www.absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=9124
3.  Which of your own stories are you most proud of, and why?  (This doesn't have to be one written in 2008).

I would say "Authorized Personnel Only: Safest Place To Hide" would be one. I've worked hard on it for so many years. It's my most challenging to write so far.
4.  Give us a link to one of your own stories that you feel is undiscovered or underappreciat ed, and tell us why you think it's worthy of being read.

Well, I have a story that I posted on AC that haven't gotten reviews. So I sort of gave up on it. I guess if I get more reviews on it, maybe I would be willing to work on finishing it. This story is an alternate universe story that involves the Backstreet Boys and some members of NSYNC as rival mafia families. The Boys are given their "mafia" or "Italianized" names as well as Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez and Joey Fatone. I only have the first three chapters posted and have not updated it since. here is the link if you would like to preview it:

I would have to say the "Monarchy Series" written by scarlett. She is an amazing writer and her stories on the Monarchy series are interesting to read. I don't think it's undiscovered or unappreciated but I recommend it to anyone who enjoy fantasy, adventure, romance and action.
6.  What was the best story you discovered in 2008?  Provide a link, and tell why you liked it.

Besides the Monarchy series and 00Carter, I really like "All Hail the Heartbreaker" by Tantilisinteas er. She does an amazing job at this story.
7.  Name an AC author who impressed you this year (with their writing, their updating, whatever it may be LOL), and tell us why.

I would say "scarlett" because she is working on several stories that are interesting and engaging.
8.  Do you have any writing- or fanfic-related resolutions for 2009?  If so, what are they?
Try to set a timeframe/due date for updates, although I get busy with school work and studying. Luckily i don't have a job yet so I can try to manage my time and find the time to write. I have so many new fanfics I want to write, i still only have an idea for some that I hope is different from others so i hope to be able to write those and post it here.
