Okay guys! Here's the idea for the September challenge.
A back in the day old school fic.
It has to include all the band members and be kept as authentic as possible as an added element to the challenge. Which means no made up wives, girlfriends babies etc... only the real deal.
You have the entire month to come up with the story
No word limit
Short story only (one chapter/ one shot) if you want to elaborate on it and make it longer that's fine too but for the purpose of this challenge, your first chapter should be able to read as a stand alone.
No banners!
The story has to take place anytime between 1998 -1999
Good luck and happy writing. Just like last month's challenge, as they are posted i'll add them to this first post with a link. Don't forget to post your link to your story in this thread otherwise we won't know about it!

Yay! I did 1998-1999, too! Those were their first years really making it big in the US, and Millenium came out then, too :) I have fond memories of that era :P

I wasn't a fan back then so it'll be a real challenge for me but I agree if we're doing old school it should be like real old school lol So I hope the older years wins.

What if everyone just picked their own era to write in, instead of voting on a common year? The challenge would still be to write a "historical" fanfic LOL. Just a thought!

I like that idea, but I kinda like the idea of us all doing the same years, too, cos that adds to the challenge and the "what will everyone do with them 'then'" of it, yanno? Like if we can all pick our own years it won't feel as... "collected" or whatever. Like we can't compare them as easily or... I know what I'm saying, the question is if it's coming out of my mouth anytime this year or not, and I'm guessing 'no' so hopefully YOU know what I'm saying.
Phew.
Wow that paragraph is totally something I'd have Nick say in a fic.
But it would be accompanied by the other guys all looking at him like "say whuh?"

Yeah exactly, just picking your own year wouldn't really make it that much of a challenge. I like the idea of everyone sticking to the same year. Besides, you're not even going to participate! :P

If I remember right, the last challenge you did left us at a very very very mean cut off. (okay part of that was mine and Mare's fault but that's not the point! LOL). Not sure if I want you to do a challenge! :P

I'm working on the August challenges and I don't know if I'm going to vote on this one since I don't have a preference - I will attempt to write whatever year is picked.
On a side note, I was looking around for a post where we could throw out ideas for a future challenge but didn't see one. I don't want to create my own challenge and have others do the same, I like the idea of there being a limited number a month in hopes that more will participate in just that one.
While at work today I was kind of day dreaming and thought it'd be cool if people wrote an AU where one (or more) of the guys worked in their career field. I know we have a few teachers, so you guys would write the guys as teachers, or just one. Julilly would do radio DJ. It would carry on with that. If someone was unemployed, the guy(s) would be unemployed. Same thing if someone was a student. Just a thought I figured I'd throw out there. I know some aren't into AUs. I guess if someone absolutely hated their job, didn't want to write about it, then they could do their dream job but I'd try to shy away from that - just write an "I hate my job" fic.

I like that idea! I love AU's so this is something I'd definitely have a go at if it was a challenge.

That's a challenge I would probably participate in! I love the idea! But, I just quit school and looking for a job so unemployed. But my dreamjob is what the Boys are now lmfao! But I will also start a musical theather class soon, so would that count too? It's a step to my dreamjob, heh.
Now, for this current challenge I'm not sure if I'm gonna participate. I'm still a newbie fan so I have noooo idea what was going on back in those days. I guess I have to do a LOT of research for this, but if I'm being really honest, I prefer doing as less research as possible for a fanfic. :hidesface: I will see! But I do hope the idea of Karen will be a challenge someday though LOL!

Anyone can start any kind of thread about challenges. We can have a challenge idea thread. Just like anyone can issue a challenge at any time. I used to do one a month but no one was writing anything so I stopped. lol

You don't have to actually participate if you come up with the idea. I mean it would be nice but it's not something that has to be done. For me personally, I would only issue a challenge that I knew I would want to read all the submitted stories because I think if you issue a challenge you should read them.
I think the AU idea is a great one but I wouldn't issue it because I know it's not something i'd be interested in reading. I'm not really an AU kind of girl, but if one of you wanted to post it as an october challenge, feel free. It would probably fit really well for October with Halloween and the whole pretend to be someone else thing. :)

Although I think an actual Halloween challenge would be fun too. We should come up with horror movie elements and do a challenge similar to the fear of flying one where it had to have element 1, 2 and 3 and be __ many chapters or less. It'd be fun. :D

I've done a suspense challenge before where you had to end with a cliffy. That's the one that Rose was talking about actually lol

I wouldn't mind pushing it back till November or having a longer challenge so it's more than one chapter. Say make it from September till end of the year. I'm not entirely sure. I'm throwing out ideas to see what people think.

I didn't know you could start a new challenge at any time. I thought there was a certain limit each month so I never made up a challenge myself lol. Will think of one sometime now. :)

Oh snap, I'm too early with my fanfic then 'cause it's about vampires. :D (I'm kinda stuck atm but I'm slowly on getting on the writer's road again). I gotta admit, Twilight has some influence in this one but it's not that much. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Vampire Diaries probably have much more influence in this story. I'm not really into sparkling vampires LOL! ('cause it doesn't look badass)

We'll come up with a good idea for an October challenge. It won't be about vampires (if I make it anyway lol) but i'm sure you could get vampires into it if you really wanted to.
In the meantime, don't forget to vote for the years above. I'm going to close the poll on Friday! So everyone can get started on this challenge for September!

I was exactly trying to imagine the same thing when I was writing that post! Nick... maybe. Brian... definitely. Howie... hmm, not sure. (thinks about the Everybody vid) But AJ? NO WAY! How are those tattoos able to spark anyway? LOL! There's one scene from Twilight that I copied a bit but if I think about it... that's probably the only thing Twilight-related that I put in my fanfic. *gasp* Go me! :o (I promised myself to put as less Twilight as possible in it 'cause lots of people do it already and I was afraid I would break my promise... but I think I won't! ;D)
