Basically we're writing what we do from day to day so to speak. If you are a student, you write that. If you have a job, you write that. If you are unemployed, you write that. I hope that makes sense :)
I did mention dream job but I want to shy away from that as much as possible. If everybody is doing a dream job, then it defeats the purpose. Does anybody have any thoughts on this issue? Perhaps if you wanted to write a short story about your real life day to day and a second about your dream job that would work also. I'm up for discussion on this.
Also, if you are both going to school and unemployed or working, I don't see why you couldn't write both - have one guy doing one and another doing the other.
As mentioned in the previous thread, the idea is to go from September 1 - December 31st. It can be as long as you wish as long as it's finished by the end of the year. Any objections to that?
I would like it to be longer than one chapter. A short story will definitely work if that's what you want.
Oh, another thing I just thought of. While we're writing the boys into our jobs, schools, etc, I don't want you to feel like you have to make the guys you. I think that'd be weird. Like with your personalities, does that make sense? Also, you can change the location or make up one. You do not have to use your own city unless you want to. I would like you to use the same kind of area however. For example, I live in a somewhat small town. I don't mind telling people the area and all that but I don't want to specifics so I will probably do a made up town, with a company that is the same with a different name. So if you're a nurse at a small hospital, same thing. Or if you teach in a big city and have inner city issues, I'd hope you'd be writing about that.
And I think I'm done with my ramble for now. :-X

I can make a participation list but I didn't plan on having a form to fill out or anything. The challenge starts on September 1 and as long as it is posted by the end of the year you are good.

I didn't even think about that so I don't see an issue with it. If you were formerly employed somewhere that you want to write about, that sounds perfectly fine with me. What I was thinking about if someone was unemployed, non-student would be the struggles of finding a job, making money, etc. You wouldn't have to have it exactly how your life is, maybe they are making their money some other way such as illegal activity but still claim unemployment. I'm not a real stickler on that one.

I'm really glad you guys like the idea and I can't wait to see what you come up with. I don't know if we need a list of people who are wanting to participate. I think as long as you guys come back here with a link to your story, I can make a list of those.

I figured that we've had a few short story type challenges that the option to write a longer one with more time would work out just fine. I hope that people don't forget about it :(

I do sometimes see a few interesting things when I log on to customers computers, so I could write that into it. But my job isn't all that interesting either, lol. I'll have to make some stuff up to make it sound better.

I'm already making notes about mine. It's gonna be fun. I'm going to use one of my old jobs and my current school. I think it's gonna be an interesting combo. I'm torn between using Nick or AJ though.

I'm going to be writing about stuff that could happen or has happened at my job. If I wrote about the day to day stuff, I think it'd be pretty boring though everybody tells me "Being a 911 dispatcher must be pretty interesting" all the time.

I was thinking more of writing the characters in my environments, but not me persay...does that make sense? And, is that what you are looking for?

Not necessarily... but creating a totally fictional story around places and faces I know...incorpo rating personality types, etc. I was just going to add A LOT of imagination...

I think the point is the guys are supposed to live like you do and work your job... not necessarily BE you, but be in your situation.

Pengi is right. My thought process was that you were going to write someone having your job and/or lifestyle ie student, unemployed, etc.
For example, I work at a 911 center. We dispatch all the fire and law enforcement agencies for my county as well as take all the business calls for each one plus the 911 calls that come in. I also take online classes. So while I may write about a fire department or police station, my main focus is going to be the main character managing working at a dispatch center as well as take classes - though I could opt out of having my character being a student because that isn't top priority at the moment.
Does that make sense?

For mine, I'll have a couple main characters as the dispatchers then the rest would be side characters that the dispatchers run into from time to time or work with in other departments.

Question: what if you have a job and you have been a student? Can you also use e.g. AJ for the job and Nick as a student?
'Cause I do got a job atm. Well, it's not like an actual job. More like... I have to deliver brochures and newspapers in a certain neighborhood here in my hometown. I have to fold them in first ('cause I have to pick up different kinds of brochures seperately) and then deliver them on my bike. I can TOTALLY imagine AJ stumbling with the bike and heavy packages balancing on his arm, swearing, while he tries to find his way to the mailboxes. Oh yeaaaah. :D (Especially when it's winter. Then the job's a bitch) I could have Nick study as an executive secretary LMFAO! 'Cause that's what I used to study but I quit in the middle of the semester. Oh all the ideas I get now. (: *fantasy goes crazy*

I asked that too and she said that using multiple boys for multiple aspects of your life was ok. I'm pumped. LOL

Pengi's right. I don't mind if you're doing several activities and want to use more than one guy to do it. You can give them their own personalities, the goal isn't to write you - just write your job/school experience/unemployment troubles or all with one or more of the guys.

I'll see if I can make a decent banner with Paint LOL. I recently installed Paint Shop Pro 8 but haven't had the time to figure out how it works. I'm not even sure if I'll even get it. :D
I'm gonna love writing this especially 'cause the location will be my homecountry: The Netherlands! And as far as I know there hasn't been a fanfic here where that has been the main location. ;D

I've written a prologue and 3 chapters. My God, this is so much fun to write. :D
Maybe I should participate in challenges more often, it motivates me to write. So I'll stay motivated for my own fanfics too. ;D

This challenge doesn't have a limit on how long or short it has to be. That is all completely up to the author to decide. The only catch is that it has to be done by the end of the year.

Yeah I know. I was just curious what people would consider a short story. I've only done 2 stories before and they were one chapter challenges. This one will be longer but I was just wondering. It's not going to be that long anyway.

If you wanted to be super technical a short story, by definition, is usually no longer than 9,000 words and focuses on a single plot line. Anything 10,000 - 50,000 words would be considered a novella, and anything above 50,000 is a novel. Random factoids! lol

I love this challenge and can't wait to start writing. I am excited to write about 1 or more boys in a kindergarten class. This will be so much fun.

Do you have to have your story finished by the end of the year and then post chapter by chapter, or have all the chapters up by the end of the year?

This is a cool idea. The thought of them as college students is pretty funny to me. I can just imagine them in dorms, those poor other people in the building. I'd love to write this and I might since we have until the end of the year.

Oh wee! Good to know 'cause I just couldn't wait to post mine. I've written quite a bit now, so I won't run out of chapters anytime soon.

I haven't finished mine yet. I am going to but it may take ten years. LOL. Sometimes I find it hard to write about teaching when I spend five days a week doing it. That is why I only have like 5 chapters. Maybe in the summer when I am away from school I will finish it with full force. Hopefully there will be a few updates before that.
