The nomination period will last for one month! You have until September 30, 2010 at 12:00am EDT to send in your noms!
In order for a category to make it through the nomination round it must have at least three (3) nominees to a maximum of (10) ten.
Nominations MUST be sent via personal message to "FelixAwards"! Any nominations sent to Julilly, Mare, or Chaos won't be counted. Well, maybe the first time but definitely not the second! :P Please make sure you fill out all of the information, last time many nominations came without links and we will not search for the story for you! If it comes without links, it’s going in the virtual recycle bin.
Don’t forget to fill out why you believe the story deserves a nomination! It’s a lot more meaningful to say why something should be on the list than just plunking a bunch into a form.
YOU MAY NOT NOMINATE YOURSELF! Also, don't think you can make a fake account to try and do it either, new accounts must be mod approved and we can see if you're using the same computer as another account.
There will be no judges this year; we’re doing it reader’s choice so you will have the opportunity to vote for your favourites! Also, don't forget about the 'for your consideration' thread, the only place you can pimp your work!
Lastly, take a look at the winners from the past two years before you nominate a story. If an author has already won an award in that category for the same fic, they cannot be nominated again! You can only win one time in one category.
PS - If you don't fill out a category you don't need to send it back to us. Just send along the ones you're filling out.

quick question, do they have to be complete, or just far enough along to get the idea where the story is headed? Please forgive me if I missed where I should ask this or missed the answer to this.

They don't have to be completed. Just far enough that the plot has been established. After judging the last few years I can tell you that it's reallyhard to judge a story when there's not very much written, especially in comparison to a completed one. So, I guess just use your judgement?

In reference to something Rose asked me...
You cannot be nominated for both Best Author and Best New Author. If the author you're nominating has never won an award they would qualify for Best New Author... if they have won awards before they qualify for Best Author. You can't be nominated for both!

We usually have a big ceremony in which we announce all the winners. It's going to be awhile. We still need noms and if a category doesn't fill up, it will go away. Then the voting process will begin.

Let's go over something really quick... I'm noticing a trend in some of the nominations that are coming through.
Alternate Universe = type or form of fan fiction in which canonical (or "real") facts of setting or characterizati on in the universe being explored or written about are deliberately changed. (That means it's not "real")
Canon = the material accepted as "official", in a fictional universe's fan base. (Just like real life)
For example, if Howie is the main character in the story and Howie is or was ever a Backstreet Boy, and you are using bits of real life to describe the setting that is considered canon.
If Howie is the main character in the story and he is a Quaker (google it) who sells magic apples (that's a fruit) on the side of the road in the year 1874 (the year before 1875), that is considered alternate universe.
Don't nominate stories for Best AU that are written as canon. Even if the plot is kind of zany, or different, so long as the Backstreet Boys are Backstreet Boys... it's canon.

I'm not a mod, but yes. You just can't nominate say...2 of an author's stories for the same category. Like you can't nominate both Julie's "Broken" and "By My Side" in Best Drama/Angst. But if you wanted to nominate Broken for Best Drama, and then for Best Novel, you could.

Well, no, you can't LOL. But say you nominated one story by Julie, and someone nominated a different story by Julie for the same category, one nomination would end up being tossed, I'm pretty sure.

Can u nominate the story of a coauthor if it is one of the ones u r not involved in? Just not sure if that would be looked at as not ok. Just cause u have or are working with her.

If you're not part of that story, then sure. But if you're listed as coauthor at all and help write it, then you can't nominate it.

Two people CAN be nominated for two different stories in the same category. If I nominate Rose for Thriller/Suspense for a story, and someone else nominates her in the same category for a different story both nominations stand. It's not really up to me to decide which nomination deserves to be there more.

And to answer the co-author question. If you co-authored the actual story then you can't nominate it, but if it's someone you write with but you have nothing at all to do with the story then yes, you can nominate it. I don't think that question was answered. LOL

There's other things that there's no categories for and not because no one writes it but because not enough people write it. As it is, we won't be able to fill the categories we have now. The more categories there are, the harder it is to fill all of them.
We don't do any awards categories for visuals or slash specifically because it's a PG-13 awards, but that's not to say they can't be nominated in other categories.

Yes, exactly! Slash isn't the genre, it's the content. You can have romance, suspense, etc and have it still be slash.

Exactly. Slash is not it's own genre. It's just a type of romance. So it shouldn't get it's own category.

I agree. Looking at the comments I totally see what you guys mean. Its nice to know that even people who don't like slash still think it can fit into other categories. It's almost a compliment to those of us who right it.

I'm not sure if this was answered or not but no, it doesn't have to be stories written this year. You can go as far back as the site goes as long as the story didn't win the category you are nominating it for already. :)

There is no next round. The nomination period closes on September 30th. After that, as long as there are at least three stories nominated in any given category, those stories will be posted for you to vote on. It probably won't happen right on the 30th though. We need to get them all organized and set up the voting first.

Speaking of which ... If you have already sent in your noms don't keep sending in more sheets! Everyone gets one nomination sheet not 12! Anything beyond one entry for each category won't be accepted ... It's not fair to everyone else

Oops - I only nominated in a few categories, but I think I nominated more than one entry for a couple of categories. I didn't know that was a rule. How do you decide which story gets the nomination? Is there a limit to how many can be nominated in a category?

Yes, there is a maximum of 10 stories per category. Otherwise it ends up being a couple categories with 20+ entries and others with 3. So, just like in past years, we cap it at 10. Which is why we don't take multiple nomination sheets so that everyone gets a chance to put their favourites in, not just one person :)
If it's close like 13 or 14 in a category we'll let it slide, but when one person sends in 15 sheets all nominating different stories in the same category we can't take them all so we'll take the first one submitted, two if there's not many submissions in that category.

You can still fill in the blanks.
I don't care if it takes you 15 emails to send in all of your noms because you haven't decided yet, but some people were sending 15 emails all nominating things in the same category and that we can't really have. But if you want to save some for later, feel free.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on sending in my nomination form until like... September 30th or close to it. LoL I've been trying to take a look at some of the stories people suggested in the For Your Consideration thread as well as finish up a few stories I've been reading for awhile.

A lot of people are sending in nominations for one or two categories, but not others so there are some categories in danger of being cut! And some of them may surprise you...

BEST AUTHOR (seriously people... best author doesn't have enough noms)
Also be cautious in determining between Best Author and Best NEW Author. If the author has never won an award before they automatically go into the new author category, if they have won an award they go into best author.
So if you want to see these categories move on into the voting round make sure you nominate and get your friends to send in nominations!

what constitutes historical? does a story taking place in the beginning years count or does it have to be another era (i.e. Victorian)?
