I don't know if this is the right forum - if not, sorry! ???
I've been having issues when posting chapter updates. It takes forever to upload and then will give me an SQL error. I've attempted to post updates on my laptop, my PC, at school, and now today at work. All four machines are having the same issue.
Is this happening to anyone else? Sometimes I think I'm just cursed, lol.

Hmm. You seem to have SQL problems a lot. How are you uploading? A file or in the text box?

I don't know if this is related or not, but I know that when I post (I just paste text in, no tinyMCE or uploaded file), a box always pops up when I click post... I can't even remember what it's asking for now, but I've learned to just ignore it because the chapter will post anyway. If I click on the box, it doesn't upload right. I'll let you know what the box says next time I have something to update LOL.

I have a lot of problems in general a lot. LoL. I paste my HTML from notepad into the text box. I don't know...it's just the last two days it's acting up again. It's just so weird because it happened on four different computers!

I've got a problem posting too. I got that SQL error and the chapter didn't post. So I went to try again and it's there when I try to add it, but it's not showing on the recent page :crazy:
I've not had this problem before either and am using Firefox.

Actually, a couple of hours ago I had an email to say that Evergreenwrite r's story 'Only in my Dreams' had been updated, so I clicked to read and left a review, but it's not on the recent page :crazy:

The chapters are posting, but they're not coming up on the Most Recent page. All the people that are annoyed with my stories always showing on the first page must be SO loving this right now ;D

Ok, so I changed some things and it worked fine using both IE and Chrome but for some reason it's still wonky on Firefox. So if you are having those issues, try using Internet Explorer.

I've tried IE 7 and IE 8 just now...A fatal MySQL error was encountered.

I just posted on IE 8 and I had no errors, and it showed up on the Most Recent page right away. :/

:( Hope you get it working soon. I deleted my chapter and re-added it and it worked for me. But at least if people have favourited the story, they will get the email like I did :)

Yup I've tried it all. Our computers at work have deep freeze on them meaning they're wiped clean every day. And it's not even working on those. I'm clueless (which isn't really out of the ordinary, lol)

When you click on the link in the email it should take you straight to the chapter. It did for me anyway, that's how I managed to read the latest update.

Ha ha. It's all good. I'm look ooh a chapter and then no its not. :p I kind of figured that after I posted here and on your story. The angry smiley is cute.
When you click on the link in the email it should take you straight to the chapter. It did for me anyway, that's how I managed to read the latest update.
I actually get a blank page when I click the link. Yesterday it was chapter 40 and today was chapter 41. But like she said she's testing that's why were getting all these extra emails.

I logged into your account and got the SQL error. Logged back into my own account and posted with no issues.
Though I got the error, the test story still posted and showed up on the most recent page. I will need to sift through the eFiction forums for this one.

I still don't get why people are complaining. Just add the story you like to your faves, then when it gets updated you'll be notified. Simple haha.

I think I fixed it!
I just logged into Jen's account and posted an update to one of her stories and not only did I not get the error but it jumped up to the top of the most recent page like it was supposed to.
Let me know if any of you are still having problems, otherwise I will deem this case closed! :)

Case not quite closed. I had a feeling it would happen to me and indeed it did lol the story updated but I got that error message and it's not showing up on the most recent page.

That's what i keep seeing also. Random html codes. Usually they are up the top by the banner, and then everytime i update it will show loads of codes before either telling me it was successful, or giving me the error.

When you see those can you send them to me? Either a screen shot or just copy them? That's usually the key to what the problem is.

Something else i just realised though, not sure if its a fault but whenever i add the text to the box when i update i usually use the setting there to bold or italic the font, well for the past few weeks that's been missing as well. Just a heads up.

I'd try on IE, but for some reason the moment i open it on my laptop it just closes again. Tried numerous times to redownload it and it still does it.
Then again my laptop is nearing laptop heaven. Might be why lol

I can't use IE8. Pretty much the only thing I use is AOL. Everything else makes my computer freeze.

I hadn't been seeing any weird HTML codes or anything, but I just logged out, and when I logged out, I could see them in the top righthand corner, same thing Suzanne posted.
I use Chrome, if that makes any difference.

Which, with my little bit of knowledge is just saying in code that you're not logged in. But it's interesting that it's specific to the tinyMCE. Or is it not interesting? lol

I was posting a review to Pupura's story when the site crapped out on me i had to close IE and reopen it. I got a wierd HTML code and then when i went to refresh the page the screen went blank.

Hey guys, I just tried this in Firefox and IE8 and the site is throwing a Javascript error in IE8 when you are not logged in.

Fourth update was a charm...I actually got Murder at Backstreet Mansion to go through successfully. It took awhile though....WEIR D! lol
On a side note, I did another update to AH and got the fatal SQL error and no 'Most Recent' post.

I'm back from my training but without internet since my isp sucks for a few days. I will try to get this stuff fixed/looked asap. Anything with tinymce is because I was trying to get a spell check install and it made a few things wonky. I didn't get it fixed before I left for training. The mysql error I'll need a screenshot of if someone can send it to me.

Hi Karen - there's not really enough to do a screenshot where mine is concerned. It literally just says 'A Fatal MySQL error has occured.' No other code or anything. :(

I would send you a screen shot but the html codes show up for me when I click from home to most recent page etc.. and it shows up for a few seconds before the page changes.
When I updated what Jen said is all I see too. The fatal MYSQL message.

Ah, that is tinyMCE you're seeing in the corner there. If only the problem were that easy! The reason that code is showing is because we were trying to install a spell check and it wasn't taking.

So I had successfully posted Murder at Backstreet Mansion the past two days. It even came up on the Most Recent page. (my other three stories...no chance) So I just updated chapter four and got the fatal SQL error. It didn't show up on the MR page. I have cursed another story! LoL

Way to go... Lol the problem is being worked on and it is looking like the targets aren't completely random either. It's the people with the most favourited stories and reviewed stories that seem to be getting the errors. You are all too loved! You demand too much server space in order to send out email notifications and to hold all your reviews! It will hopefully be resolved soon! Just hang in there.

I agree with Mare - that is cool! But in a sucky way. It's like a never-ending circle. If it doesn't show up on the MR page, more people favorite the story to get e-mail updates which in return it part of the problem. Oh the irony :)

I tried to update "Remember Me This Way", and when I did, it not only took forever... but then this came up.

And when I checked the most recent page, is it there? Nope! But the chapter itself posted, like what happened to Jen and Mare.

The email updates and reviews are the problem, so that would be why. Nothing I can do until the issue is resolved, but at least they know it's been updated.

What happened to the ability to edit, for example Bold, Italics, Underline. Stuff like that?

I think the editor might be down again? I dunno, I never use it. You can still code with HTML. Just put these tags around the text you want to format:
Bold: <b>text</b>
Italics: <i>text</i>
Underline: <u>text</u>

The problem I have isn't really a huge problem or anything. It's just that I noticed my chapters look a bit different to how they should. I've been typing them in Word using Times New Roman and font size 11. But when I copy it over to AC the font size is really big and it was also showing z88 in the corner of the page.
No big deal or anything, but thought I'd mention it in case anyone wonders why I'm posting in huge text.

Just to let you guys know I fixed tinymce - the editor that lets you add bold, underlines, etc. Let me know if there are any problems with it. Between work and college classes, I'm trying to get to as many issues as I can plus finish up a new layout. I hope everybody can bear with me. I still have to respond to my long over do thread where I was featured :(

Okay, I'm trying to update one of my stories (heartbreaker) and I went to Preview Chapter 13 and it gave me a 'IE cannot display this page' error. I then went back and just clicked Add Story without previewing and it gave me this:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfigurati on and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@absolutechaos.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

UPDATE: I got it to work through Mozilla. So maybe AC only 75% hates me. :D

I just had the fatal sql error and it didn't show my Shades of Gray fic as a recent update. And I never had that issue until the tiny MCE was turned back on. So what I had to do was delete the chp because it was there and uncheck the tiny MCE options on the update page then post the chp again. And it now shows on the most recent page.
In my experience it seems it's the tiny MCE that's the issue. For those of you that it doesn't show your most recent updates, maybe try unchecking the boxes and doing one update to see if it works.

Though it was still doing it even when TinyMCE wasn't installed. I think the only connection is the demand that TinyMCE has on the server, just like sending email notifications for chapter updates, and a large amount of reviews has.
That is the catalyst, not the editor on its own.

Ooh well not doing tiny MCE worked for me lol so that's what I'll be sticking with. Unless it decides one day to continue like it tried to do to me tonight.

I second Mare. I don't use tinyMCE (I code by HTML), so that's never been an issue for me - I think I only cheked it one time and then uncheked it. I wish it were that easy though!

I never had the recent update page issue. And I still don't now TinyMCE is working again. I'm glad it's working though! Having to check which words I had put in Italics or Bold in Word and then having to put those words on AC between HTML codes was a b*tch lol! I discovered it yesterday night when I was posting my tenth chapter of Ice Cold Blood. I had just decided I should put the HTML codes in Word when TinyMCE already worked. ;D

I'm with Mare and Jen, I've never once used it. I've always html encoded when I posted. I've tried deleting a chapter and reposting it too. And I still can't get an update for RMTW to show up on Most Recent lol. Blah :P

ookay this is getting even weirder. I went to post my next Lurks chapter and I got all excited because it just said action was successful. So I go to the most recent page thinking it's there but yet, it's not there. Then I go to check it on my account and the chapter isn't even showing up as being posted at all but yet when you go to chapter 22 there is a next option and when you click it you get the chapter that's not showing but on the scroll down menu it's coming up as chapter Uh...wtf? So, i'm just going to try this again. I have no friggin' idea what to even do because if I delete it i'm afrtiad i'll delete the entire story or a random chapter. THis is new. AH!

Well, I can't delete it because it's not showing up so there's no option to delete something that supposedly doesn't exist in the first place. *sigh* so the new chapter will be there twice now. Good lord this is getting old.

So I clicked on the direct link you left and all it says is "by", the page is titled and all on my tab, but there's no title or anything on the actual page. Nothing.

I tried that and got the page you were talking about. The link Mare posted in her updates thread took me to the same page, but the one she posted on Twitter went to the table of contents... but it did say Chapter 23 in the link.

I just deleted and reposted and the same exact thing happened again. It says action successful. It's showing up on my manage stories as 23 chapters but on the site it's only 22.

I don't even want to admit this to you in public Mare but...
Chapter 23 is there now. The reason being that it was *gulp* your fault.
lol See, there's this not so handy little administrator option called "Validate" and you somehow switched the validation off when you posted the chapter so it was waiting in the queue for a moderator to accept it.
Needless to say, I accepted it, it's now posted and I changed the setting on your story back to validate. :)

OK...it was there twice when I went back into manage stories so I deleted one. Doesn't show up on the Most Recent Page but does show up when you click on the story itself. Casual is a favorite of more than 20 people. Very odd.

Yeah, personally I'd rather keep favorites; at least we still get an email to let us know when stories have been updated that way. Hopefully we don't have a repeat of what happened to Mare's story last night with others, but I'm glad it's up now.

I have more than 20 people for each story. But I notice that when I post a brand new story and go to post chapter 2, I only have like 5-10 people that favorite it by them and it still doesn't work on the second chapter post. ::shrugs::

No, our server is completely overloaded. We have way too many requests happening simultaneously and it crashes the whole thing. The cause is because there are too many reviews, and too many emails being sent out when stories are updated.

So maybe it's a combination of favorites + reviews? That could be why yours are messing up so early, Jen, even before you have 20 people favoriting them.
Did the site move to a new server after the blackout?

Okay, pretty sure 20 is the magic number for favorites! I FINALLY updated Curtain Call for the first time since this has been going on, and sure enough... Fatal MySQL Error, and it's not on the Most Recent page, but the new chapter is there. It's the only one of my in-progress stories with over 20 people favoriting it, and it's the only one that hasn't posted right.

I'm not sure if you guys turned them off because of the problems, but when I try to go to the "Manage Favourites" section, I get a screen that says "You are not authorized to access that function." Also, I was curious so I went to my statistics and I can no longer see how many favourites my stories have.

No, it didn't. I don't think it has been for anyone this has happened to. It's basically acting like the story wasn't updated at all, except for that the new chapters are there.

According to Sel, it said my story wasn't updated since the middle of September but i've been updating every single Saturday since i started posting. As far as the favorites, i'm pretty sure we didn't turn that function off.

I guess that also answers the question as to whether or not things wil show up as most recent without the favorites feature because Julie, not sure how long that has been off but if you still weren't able to post, then that can't be the main problem. :( balls!

I went poking around and saw a button about most recent updates and pushed it lol i'm sure it wasn't that simple but let me know if it did anything for anyone who had trouble updating before. LOL

Yeah, this is really weird LOL. Your stories both have a lot of reviews too, Summer, so I'd think if it had to do with favorites and reviews, yours would both be messed up too. There must be another factor involved in it.

Do any of you use AOL? That's how I post everything and I know sometimes AOL can be a pain in the ass.

No, I have Comcast internet and use Chrome. I doubt it's the service provider or browser, though, or it would be doing it to all our updates. I've been able to update Song for the Undead and Guilty Roads just fine while other people were having issues. The only difference between those and Curtain Call is the number of people who favorited them; CC has more than 20, and the others have less.

Yeah, I've thought the review thing too.
And I use Firefox. I think I remember reading people were having problems with IE. Maybe it's a mix of the browser and the site being compatible or something. *shrugs* Who knows.

I'll be updating in the next hour or so. I will say that I just posted a brand new story about an hour ago and it had a fatal MySQL error...same as before. So I'm going to put in a guess that this isn't going to solve the problem...
By disabling favorites does that also disable favorite author or just favorite stories?

I agree, it's gotta be something in the fave story/review thing. Undead shows up okay, and it has less than 20 people favoriting it, same with my other story Walked Out Of My Dreams, and that one shows up okay. It's only RMTW that doesn't wanna play nice lol.

Any new stories always appear the first time on the Most Recent page even after giving me an SQL error. Also, Mare thought you might want to know that I just added a chapter of Heartbreaker and got a fatal SQL error. So even with Favorites disabled it's happening. :(

Yeah for example I posted Fallen Angel on Sept. 22. It says it was last updated Sept. 22 even though I update once or twice daily. The poor site. We're killing it...lol

Okay, observation:
Since Chaos turned off the favorites, no one was able to favorite my new story. Since it has under 20 favorites, it's appearing on the main page.
Even with the favorites turned off I still have over 20 people favoriting (I know that's not a word, lol) the old stories and it's still doing the SQL error thing.
I'm thinking turning off favorites only stops new people from favoriting but keeps the old ones so any stories published before the turn-off are still going to have the issue.

I think they're still working. People are still finding out about my updates to Heartbreaker and Fallen Angel even though they don't show up on the main page. Sometimes it only takes five minutes after posting for a review to appear. Maybe I'll ask someone to let me know the next time I post...

I don't have a problem with the updating date, at least not with my own stories. It says that Ice Cold Blood has been updated since October 20th and that's correct.
As for Out of the Ordinary, it's correct as well (holy guacamole, October 14th? Seriously? *slaps herself*)
I haven't updated in a while *shame* but I'll keep an eye on anything weird stuff happening if I do update.
Btw, I also noticed the not being able to favorite a story. I wanted to favorite Great Divide but I couldn't find the button. I thought it was just me lol! Now my review to Jen isn't correct because I said I would favorite the story before I actually did it (because I thought the button would be there lol). Oh snap.

You don't visit the home page often, do you? lol Favourites are turned off right now, it's nothing to do with the glitches. It's part of the process of trying to figure out what all the glitches are.

i had some trouble lasst night. it posted the chapter twice so I deleted one of them. Now in the Reviews Rec'd section it says there is 1 unread review. when I click it, nothing is there.

Good to know! I forgot to post an author's note this morning. :) As for Great Divide...until favorites are turned back on, just check the Most Recent page. It's the only one of my stories actually making it on there. :)

^Me too, I have never got an email for a story/author I have listed in my favourites. I always assumed it was just hotmail being stupid, because I have got emails from the message board saying I have a new PM and stuff like that.

Try going to Edit Preferences in your account info; there's an option that has to be checked for you to receive emails when your favorites get updated. It could just be that it's been unchecked. Or it could be going to your spam folder, but if you're getting other emails from AC, like for reviews, it's probably not that.

My readers are no longer getting e-mail alerts for favorited stories; however, my SQL problems are still happening on Fallen Angel and Heartbreaker.
NOW I'm frustrated >:(
As a P.S., I asked some readers to make sure e-mail notification was still checked and it was...so that's not the problem. ::sigh::
