This is the Collaboration challenge. :)
You're goal for this challenge is to team up with someone and create a 3 chapter story. A mini adventure if you will. LOL
It can be any genre, any fandom, doesn't matter. The idea is to see if you can work with someone seemlessly enough that we can't tell one author from the next.
Here are the rules:
~ There should be only two people working on the story
~ You cannot collaborate with someone you have already collaborated with
~ The reason it's a three chapter arch is so you can write one, your partner can write one and then one you have to work together on. As a reader we shouldn't be able to tell which chapter you worked on together.
~ Readers should try to guess who wrote what when they leave feedback and then you can let us know if they were correct.
~ No banners!
Also a reminder that as long as your name is listed as an author it counts as one of your updated stories on AC. You can only update two stories a day so be careful. You have been warned lol
If you think this is something you'd like to try but do not have anyone in mind who you'd like to write with, just repsond in here that you're interested and if you think you know who you want to work with, request that person. The worse that can happen is they say no lol
So many people I know became close friends because of their working together so who knows? You might find yourself a new BFF!

Yay collab challenge! Sounds fun!
I'm probably out because I have way too many stories I'm trying to work on before school starts back up, and I don't want to commit to anything else this month. But I think it will be a great way for people who have never tried collaborating and want to give it a shot to take the plunge and go for it!

Not sure if I can do this, just from the amount of time/stories and such. But this is a neat idea for a challenge! I can personally vouch for the fact that collaborating can be awesome. I started collaborating with Julie, and we just really bonded. I think the same happened with Hannah and Jen. :)

There's no word limit on this one, so you could make the chapters however long you needed to. Beginning, middle, end, voila!

You can write as many stories with as many authors as you want, as long as you follow the rules. :)

'Fraid not. At the moment, the only means of communicating are PM's and e-mail. Unless we find each other on FB. Then we can chat there.

Well, carterkid and I are starting to toss around an idea. I've got another idea that I may want to save for myself or use with someone else, based on a title prompt at writingfix.com called "The Video Game that Went Wild": At least one of the guys is taken into a video game, either by getting zapped into it by lightning/electricity, or the enemy characters take a gateway that opened during a power outage (maybe said BSB is beta-testing before the big release), snatch the Boy(s) and take him/them into the game. The only way to escape and return to the real world is to play the game. In hindsight, that's kind of like the movie Tron, isn't it? The new one, I mean. I haven't seen the original.

The game idea sounds good. I wrote a story where Nick was testing a game in which if you died in the game, the monster from the game killed the player for real. LOL!

awww I would love to try this out... I only have one story here in AC and definitely haven't tried making collaboration. But the problem is, since English is not my native language and I'm struggling with words sometimes, if I ever team up with any of you, it would be easier for people to pinpoint which is my work and which is the work of the other writer. That's too bad, I can't join this one.

^ that's not true. The person you pair with could definitely help you with words and help edit it to make sure it flows.

Yep, that's what a beta reader is for. As long as you're okay with your co-author changing any parts that sound awkward, don't let that stop you from joining in! :)

I thought of that but it would bring more work to the other writer and that's not fair to her. Thank you! I guess I'll have to find someone who's willing to do more work that she would have to do. :)

I'm sure it won't be much of a problem to someone. It's their native language so it's not hard for them to correct any awkward English or grammar/spelling mistakes. :) English isn't my native language either and I used to be really insecure because I sometimes struggle with words too. But I realize that every chapter I write is an opportunity to improve both my English and my writing skills.
Hey, you could try and write the chapter in your own language first and then translate it because it's always easier to word things in your own language. I do that when I'm lost, I write the chapter in Dutch and translate it and it comes out just the way I want and mostly the translated version looks way better. :)
I also don't think this challenge is some sort of contest between two authors. It's ok when readers can see that you wrote, for example, the first chapter. You can see it as a way to improve your English. You have no idea how many people on this board think it's awesome we write in a language other than our own, I've had my share of compliments lol. ;) You could see this challenge as a challenge to yourself to write with someone who has English as a native language. You could learn a lot from the person you're collabing with. I sure hope I will. ;D Also, I see this challenge as an opportunity to see whether collabing is my thing or not. Maybe you find someone you will be collabing with multiple times in the future. :)
My point is, don't be discouraged by the fact English isn't your first language. Just go for it!

PS. if the person you're collabing with doesn't really feel like helping you out for whatever reason (but I don't think that'll happen), you can also turn to me. I'm pretty good at correcting English grammar and spelling mistakes, if I may say so myself LOL *no ego*

No, not for this one. I would say if you start writing it by the end of August you're in good shape. Because it's a collab challenge the timing is not really going to be a huge factor. I'd say hopefully you will all be done by the end of September.

I think this is a great example of all the things that 'could' go wrong with collabing with people you aren't 100% on board with. lol and is yet another reason why I don't do them. I would be going all kinds of bezerk right now if I wanted to do this challenge and my partner flaked on me.

I thought it was the end of Sept. we had for this. LOL. My collab partner went MIA and the person I'm attempting to collab with now, well it isn't for this challenge that's for sure.. we like our banners and more than 3 chapters ;)

Maybe it's just easier to collab with people you really know and not as a challenge. If I were you and if you were really interested, that's probably the route you should take. :)

That's too bad it didn't work out for anyone, but I think Mare's probably right - if you really want to collab, you'll just do it on your own for the fun of it, not for a challenge. Commitment is key, though! This proves that point better than anything LOL.
