Welcome back! It's time to nominate your favourites for the Felix Awards 2011!
Please read this carefully...
The nomination period will last for one month! You have until November 29, 2011 at 12:00am EDT to send in your noms!
In order for a category to make it through the nomination round it must have at least three (3) nominees to a maximum of (10) ten, and be either complete or close to complete!
Nominations MUST be sent via personal message to "FelixAwards"! (that's this account.) Any nominations sent to Julilly, Mare, or Chaos won't be counted. Well, maybe the first time but definitely not the second! Please make sure you fill out all of the information, last time many nominations came without links and we will not search for the story for you! If it comes without links, it’s going in the virtual recycle bin.
YOU MAY NOT NOMINATE YOURSELF! Also, don't think you can make a fake account to try and do it either, new accounts must be mod approved and we can see if you're using the same computer as another account.
Things will be going a little different this year. Again, the awards will be 'Reader's Choice' so you will get a chance to vote on the winners. But we wanted to focus a bit more this year on the writer and not just the story.
You will be able to nominate for two different types of genre-based awards; story and author. (They don't have to be the same person, you can choose a story by one person and still say overall your fav author in that genre is someone else.)
Lastly, take a look at the winners from the past three years before you nominate a story. If an author has already won an award in that category for the same fic, they cannot be nominated again! You can only win one time in one category.
PS - If you don't fill out a category you don't need to send it back to us. Just send along the ones you're filling out.

Question: Is there going to be a cap on how many nominations a person and/or story can recieve for one category. Last year 1 author had 3 out of 4 noms in one category. They were almost guaranteed a win but the author won.

I would think it really doesn't matter because it's the readers who are nominating and just like the Emmys where everyone but one person from one TV show can get nominated, that other person can still win? I think with the way the categories are set up, there will be more of a choice for each category then years past so I don't really see it as being that big of an issue.
I'll discuss it with Julilly and get back to you on that though.

I did my votes, but i think i MAY have got a little confused.. LMFAO!! Only cos i read the instructions, but as i hit send realised that i could vote a story, then a seperate author. Oh well haha, i'm still happy for who i voted for LOL

As to the issue of authors being nominated multiple times in the same category, I've always thought that when it's voted on, that actually hurts the author's chance of winning because it splits their votes. If their readers/fans can only vote once, which story do they vote for? If that author has SO many readers that their votes split four ways is still more than the other person gets, they would win anyway, regardless of how many times they were nominated. So Krystle, I wouldn't worry about it. Mare has a good point about the Emmys being set up the same way.

Yay! The nominations started when I was not around, but I still have 29 days to nominate. And filling out a nomination form is on the top of my to do list today! :)
Just a clarifications .... so there would be no Best Author and Best new author this year? Just like what Julie won last year...

Right! Those categories are gone. Instead we are cleberating the authors of each given genre.

Guys just one more thing...please make sure the categories you are nominating these stories for are actually categories they belong to. If the story isn't listed as an AU then don't nominate it as an AU. We just end up throwing away those noms. Same with authors if you list an author as your favorite romance writer but not a single story is liosted as a romance, then they'll be thrown out.
Also, don't forget to include links in your noms and who the story was written by. Most i've been able to figure out but some I have no clue!

so even if they really qualify to the genre we're nominating the story for? but the author didn't just tagged it, like the story I like to nominte for drama, but her story was tagged as romance. so I nominated it for the romance category even if I think it fit more in the drama.

We could go story by story but that would take forever. It would depend on if I read it or Julilly read it. So it's easiest to take the author's word for it. If they think it's drama then it's drama etc... some of them if I do know it's a drama or romance then yes i'll keep it in there but others when i'm not sure I refer to the genre list. So again, if you aren't sure just go by what the authors have posted as the genre of choice. That's the best way to ensure that the nomination will not be thrown out.

To clarify again, when it comes to a genre like romance, I generally think drama as well so chances are that nom wasn't thrown away. The ones I tend to check are AU, and the suspense, action adventure, sci-fi surpernatural categories. Mostly that AU one because out of all the catrgories that's the one most misused.

And original fiction. There's been OF stories listed as 'AU' or 'drama' but they are original fiction and this year there is no category for OF since we've never been able to get enough nominees to fill it.

Couldn't original fiction still be nominated under the genre categories - drama, romance, etc.? Obviously not AU, since that's a fanfic term, but I don't see why it should be disqualified from non-fanfic-specific categories if someone wants to nominate an original fic.

We decided against it this year opting to keep it purely a fanfiction awards.

Guys just another thing, when you are sending in noms please put who the story is actually by as well since some of you are nominating a story but then a different author for your author pick. Otherwise I have to look them up and sort through and I don't want to do that.
Also please please please remember to include links to these stories. I've been really nice and looking them up if they haven't been there but that will stop after today. If you really want a story nominated you'll take the time to look up the link to it.
Otherwise, yay! Good job everyone! None of the categories at this point are in danger of being lost because of lack of noms. :)

If you look at the nomination form there is a place to nominate a story and then a place to nominate an author. I know a lot of people are getting confused and are thinking that's where you put who wrote the story you nominated but it's actually two different nominations. So let's say you want to nominate a story but not necessarily the person who wrote it, you don't have to. You can nominate another author for that genre instead.

It's alright, if it was only you I wouldn't have bothered saying anything. A lot of people are doing that. I already found all the authors etc... no big deal just don't feel like doing it anymore lol

First comes the bitching about only clique members being nominated when certain non-clique people were not... THEN comes the bitching about only clique members winning awards when non-clique nominees don't win.
I guess next year you should just spell it out in the rules that only kewl clique peeps who get lots of reviews win awards, so don't bother nominating non-clique people or begging for nominees if you're not in the clique. We should probably check with She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named to see what the cut-off is for being in the clique... how many reviews do you need to have to qualify?? This could really use some clarification!

Well if people actually read the directions and followed the rules we would have been able to put them up pronto, but no... some came with no links, some came with only links and no story names authors etc... some never copied their noms to me like I asked them too... some nominated stories in categoires the stories shouldn't be nominated in...

I'm not sure how people would draw the conclusion that its all about being in a clique when last year the awards were voted on. Everyone was only allowed to vote once. That tells me its about having a popular story... and no I don't mean that in a bad way. A stroy can gain popularity in man ways. Being well written, being well promoted by the author, extra.
I just know I wish everyone could just find a way to be thrilled they are nominated. Last year I knew going in I had no chance of winning but I still felt honored to be listed. It told me someone somewhere enjoyed my work and gave me hope that I am getting to be a better author. It told me that maybe one day I would win.
Also, mare and julilly, I know you guys must deal with a ton more then all of us even know so I want to thank you l. Without you guys putting up with bullshit we wouldn't have this site at all let alone the awards. I love being able to get on here and post my stories and just feel free to be a fan fiction writing Backstreet fan. Here I feel no need to be ashamed. Even if I'm not well liked, I am still in a way understood because there are other fans here who write just like me! So thank you guys!

I am so envious of those girls in the Miami right now and will spend 4 days with the boys. Now, if we (non-cruisers) will get to see the list of nomination before them, then I think we will feel a lot better. LOL

I wouldn't say I think there are "cliques" but it does seem that the same people always win. But I'm sure it's because they deserved it. I myself have been nominated the past two years for which I feel very honored. I thank whoever is out there that felt my work was worthy enough to be even considered. Maybe some day ...

Good luck with getting everything organized.
I've been nominated and I won an award and I'm not in a clique.
Though I do know that there are members on the site who are friends and who communicate in more ways than just reviews and the "outsiders" probably feel that because these people are all friends, then it means they're somehow staging things in their favor or they have a disadvantage because they're not "in the know" like they think the groups are. I could be wrong since I have no idea who thinks who is a clique, but that's how it's come across to me in what I've read.

I only have a few more categories to go through before posting the list of nominees. Hopefully by Tuesday night i'll have the list up and ready for you to look at. :) Not voting ready, that's when Julilly takes over, but at least you'll be able to see who was nominated.
