Title: Posting fics
Post by: FrickFrackGirl on April 06, 2012, 07:57:34 PM
I have a question.  How do all of you post your fics on AC?  I'm hoping someone can help me here. I can only post my fics if I sign into AOL.  I HATE AOL and I use FireFox as my main browser but it won't let me copy/paste into AC from it.  Is there a trick to it?  And I can't edit my fics from it either.  Whenever I go in to edit from FF, the body of my story doesn't show up.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I use Chrome as my brower, and before that, I used Internet Explorer.  They both worked fine with AC.  I always write my stories in Word and then copy/paste them over when posting to AC.  I don't use the text editor because it messes up the formatting from Word, so in my preferences on AC, I have "Use tinyMCE WYSWYG editor" unchecked.  Do you use the tinyMCE editor thing?  That could be why you're having issues with copy/pasting and then trying to edit.  I just have to add in the tags by hand to do any formatting, like putting something in bold or italics or centering it.  It's kind of a pain in the ass, but at least it posts right that way.

I use WordPerfect to type out my stories.  But unchecking that tinyMCE editor seemed to work.  Once I unchecked it, the banner and story popped right up!  I feel silly cuz after HOW many years have I been messing with posting stories, I still don't know much about the site! *shoots self*

Thanks Julie.  I'll try that next time I try to post a story.  You da bestus!!!

There have been a couple people using Firefox who have had compatibility issues with TinyMCE in the past. I've never had a problem myself, but I use Chrome for the most part.

Just check off "use TinyMCE" before you copy/paste and it will do it in text only instead of in HTML. So much easier that way!

Oh good!  Yeah, the editor and Word are not very compatible... Word adds its own formatting that seems to mess up the editor, but if you just paste it as plain text without the editor, all that formatting gets removed and you can start fresh.

I write my chapters in Word, then save it. Then i make save another copy as an html file. Then all I have to do is hit browse and upload the file in Story Text (file). I have never had trouble with doing it that way.

Mine never posted correctly when I tried uploaded them as html files.  It seemed like there were always extra spaces between paragraphs or something weird like that.

It's only done that to me a few times and that was because the formatting in Word was being goofy. You know how you can't always fix it in Word because it likes to do it's own thing.

Yeah, I know, I hate that about Word.

I used to copy and paste from my word doc, but sometimes it played up.  Now I usually do the same as you Rachel, save a copy of the chapter as a html doc and add it that way.  Only trouble I get with that though is that I get these Z88 things popping up in random places in the chapter :(
