Title: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: RokofAges75 on July 11, 2013, 05:30:03 PM
When I was going through the old question threads, compiling questions, I got a kick out of this post from Mare about a fun-sounding fairy tale challenge.

I was laying in bed when I thought of this question so I got up and put my computer on before I fell asleep and forgot all about it lol That's dedication!

Anyway, since we've been talking about niches and what we think defines who we are as writers, my mind went to an idea for a challenge. To take a fairy tale like The Three Little Pigs for instance and anonymously write our own versions of it and then people would have to guess who wrote what just based on our styles and what we would do to the characters etc... like if I wrote it, I would focus mainly on their brotherly bond as they all fought the evil wolf. If Julie wrote it I'm pretty sure one of them would end up dying of swine flu? If Rose wrote it, one of the pigs would end up as bacon and be eaten by the others, Lore and Steph might have them accidentally transported to another universe, Saka Steph might have the black sheep angsting about the situation, Tracy might have a psycho pig move next door, Karah might have a female pig move in etc... but then after I came to the realization that everyone would say "YAY that sounds like fun!" but no one would actually do it! (besides Tracy and maybe Steph) I figured it would make a pretty great question instead, so here's the question after that big lead up! lmao

Pick a fairy tale that you think best matches up with yourself and your 'niche' and explain why.

I think in my case it would be The Three Little Pigs. You have the brotherly bond. The older one is stubborn and shakes his head at the younger two until he's needed by them at the end to rescue them from the wolf. It's tailor made for me lol

So, what about you guys? For fun you can also name some fairy tales you think other writers would pick as theirs.

And now I can go back to bed lmao I'm such a dorky loser!

It was fun just thinking of an answer to this question, but the actual challenge Mare suggested sounds pretty fun, too, and you know I'm not a challenge person!  I am an elementary school teacher, though, so I love a good fractured fairy tale LOL.

Would anyone be interested in actually doing something like this?  If so, there are a couple of ways we could go about doing it (maybe more, if you guys have other suggestions).  Per Mare's suggestion, we could either decide on a well-known fairy tale, like The Three Little Pigs, that we would all write our own versions of that best fits what we're known for writing, or we could each write our own BSB fanfic version of a fairy tale of our choice.  Or we could combine those ideas and each try to Backstreet-ize the same fairy tale, while putting our own twist on it.  I would just suggest we not do The Three Little Pigs, since Mare already came up with some awesome examples of what we'd each do it with LOL.

Let me know your thoughts on which way you'd want to do it.  If we decide we want to all write the same fairy tale, we can discuss which fairy tale then.

EDIT:  Looks like this is a go!  Here's the challenge:

Here is a link to the traditional version of Beauty and the Beast, if you want to read it for reference: http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/beauty.html  Feel free to use anything from the Disney movie or other versions, too.  As long as your story is recognizable as a twist on Beauty and the Beast, anything goes!

I like this! I could use a challenge to kick me in the butt. I say we do something like the Bus Crash challenge forever ago. Where we take maybe only a small list of fairy tales (or even just one) and put our own personal and backstreetized spin on them.
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: MaggieW on July 13, 2013, 09:28:07 PM
I'd probably try to Backstreet-ize Little Red Riding Hood.  I'd keep Little Red, of course, but make her a mature young woman asked by her parents - one of whom would be one of the guys, perhaps - to visit her grandmother. On the way, she meets the "wolf", perhaps another of the guys, who is either a werewolf or as one of Webster's definitions "a man forward, direct, and zealous in amatory attentions to women" or he's just called "Wolf". Wolf travels with Little Red for a while, or just misdirects her or something while he heads to grandma's. I'll probably have her meet up with at least one other of the guys on the way, maybe one tries to persuade her not to take the trail she eventually chooses - thus meeting up with the wolf - and maybe she meets the woodcutter, or whatever he really is, before she gets to grandma's, and he shows up again and rescues her from the wolf at grandma's.

Or maybe I'll modernize/sci-fi Little Red. Can you see Little Red as a bounty hunter? LOL :P

Besides The Three Little Pigs, the only other one I could see me doing is Hansel and Gretel. lol

So are we thinking each of us pick our own fairy tale and Backstreet-ize it?
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: mare on July 14, 2013, 04:32:51 AM
I have no idea lol

If we all picked the same one or we picked different ones, the only one I could see myself doing is Hansel and Gretel but I'm also not sure I would do it, so it really depends on everyone else. I do think we should Backstreet-ize them though. Throwing them in as the main characters would be a lot more fun to read and write I think.

Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: RokofAges75 on July 14, 2013, 04:38:24 AM
Yeah, I agree about Backstreet-izing them, especially if we're all going to choose different ones... which I'm fine with.  I'm thinking of doing Sleeping Beauty.

I love Hansel and Gretel; that was always one of my favorite fairy tales.  Please include some cannibalism!
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: Rose on July 14, 2013, 06:37:20 AM
I think we should make a list of the most well known ones and have people choose from that.

So...

Cinderella
Snow White
Hansel and Gretel
Little Red Riding Hood
Sleeping Beauty
Peter Pan

I know I'm forgetting some but I haven't been to bed yet!
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: RokofAges75 on July 14, 2013, 06:40:18 AM
I'd say if we're choosing our own, let's let people choose whatever they want.  If it's one of the more obscure ones that everyone might not know, they could post a link to the original - I think most of them can be found online.

Are we going to allow duplicates, like more than one person tackling the same fairy take, or limit it to one person per tale?
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: Rose on July 14, 2013, 06:43:06 AM
Okay, you make a good point about just linking to the obscure ones.

I feel like we should allow duplicates. One of the coolest things about the Bus Crash challenge was seeing how it was one idea but everyone went somewhere different with it. We really do need another "Same Plot, Different Author" challenge.
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: RokofAges75 on July 14, 2013, 06:45:41 AM
Yeah, that could be cool.  So really, whatever goes - no need to claim an idea; just go for it!  BSB version of a fairy tale that represents your writing.

That would be one of the advantages of everyone doing the same one.

I think if we allow duplicates, then, like Rose said, we'll be able to see different takes on the same story, which would be interesting, but we wouldn't have to all agree on the same story.  While I wouldn't mind doing Hansel and Gretel, I'm not sure everyone would want to... although I did just get a vague idea for what I could do with Hansel and Gretel, so, hm... LOL

It doesn't have to be Hansel and Gretel, it could be any of them. If people all did the same one, then we could guess who wrote which one as an added part of the challenge, but I like the other way too so it doesn't really matter to me. Like I said, I'm not sure if I'd even do it after all this anyway and then I'd end up being one of those annoying people I complain about who always come up with a ton of ideas for the challenges but then don't participate! LOL
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge

The guessing part would definitely be fun.  Maybe we should just start a poll and vote on it.

Edit:  Now there is a poll.  If the majority votes to all write the same story, then we can make another one to decide what story.

Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge

Question though, if we vote on everyone does the same one, does that mean we can't Backstreet-ize it? Because in my mind either way we would Backstreet-ize it.

Oh no, we can still Backstreet-ize it. :)  That would be another part of the challenge, to see the different ways everyone chose to do that.
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: RokofAges75 on July 15, 2013, 08:07:52 PM
Looking at the poll results, it seems that the overwhelming majority would prefer we all pick the same fairy tale to write our own Backstreet versions of.  So... start throwing out some famous fairy tales that you think would work well for this challenge, and when we have enough suggestions, I'll start a new poll, and we can vote on it.  I think the only criteria for suggestions should be a fairy tale that everyone would be familiar with, not one of the obscure ones, and one that you could see being taken in a lot of different ways.

Sleeping Beauty
Beauty and the Beast
Little Red Riding Hood
Cinderella
Robin Hood (not necessarily a fairy tale, but a good story, all the same)
Aurore and Aimee  - had never heard of this fairy tale till I did a search for a list of fairy tales and found it on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurore_and_Aim%C3%A9e

Now that I'm finding all these fairy tales, I want to change my vote to Backstreet-ize a fairy tales.

Mare or Julilly, do you know if there's a way to change the poll settings to allow more than one vote?  I was going to make a poll of all the fairy tale suggestions and allow people to check all the ones they would be interested in writing, but when I made the poll for The Hollow, I couldn't find any options for checkboxes instead of radio buttons.
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: mare on July 17, 2013, 06:40:48 PM
there is a box that you can change the number of times you can vote but it might not show up for you. I can change that or just make the poll. It might be easier if I do it.

Do you want me to include all the Fairy Tales mentioned?
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge

Yeah, if you would just make it, that would be great!  I don't see the option to allow multiple votes.  Sure, go ahead and include all the fairy tales mentioned.  Thanks!
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge

I've heard that too... I guess they said so in one of the sequels?  I don't watch Disney sequels, so I would have never known.  I think that's a stupid name for him.  It doesn't sound French or old-fashioned.  I wish he would have stayed an unnamed Beast forever LOL.

Post by: RokofAges75 on July 25, 2013, 04:30:37 PM
It was harder than I thought it would be to come up with a good idea for this one!  Beauty and the Beast is kind of limiting because it's hard to stray too far from the basic premise, which is about loving someone for what's on the inside.  That seems to require romance, although I'll be curious to see if anyone does this without including romance (Mare?).  There aren't many characters to play with - when you look at the characters that are in both the original fairy tale and the Disney movie, it's really just the Beast, the Beauty, and the father.  I'm basing mine completely on the movie version because there's just more to work with there.  Sometimes the old fairy tales are better because they've got gory details that the Disney movies won't touch, but this one was just kind of boring LOL.
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: mare on July 25, 2013, 04:38:55 PM
^ yup, that would be me! :) lol that's why I said liberal.

I really didn't think I'd be able to come up with anything for this one but then while in bed I got an idea and went with it. I have 4 pages written so far. It's hard because I'm also trying to not only write this which is a hard story to do in the first place, but I'm also trying to highlight all the things writing wise that make me, me.

Anyway, I do think it's shaping up to be a very me version of Beauty and the Beast but if people were hoping just for a BSB version of the old story, it's not going to happen lol Hope I don't disappoint anyone.

Banners are fine with me, but I had that thought, too, that maybe we shouldn't if only because the style of the banners (or lack of banners LOL) might be a giveaway.  But I will leave that up to everyone to decide.  I don't think I'm going to do a banner.

Even though we are all different people, just remember since we are all posting as 'Challenges" we have to follow the posting rule of no more than three stories up one day. I doubt that would happen, but just in case, if you see three stories up already you have to wait until the next day to post yours or I'll have to lock the account for a week LOL

And yet another thing, while I'm thinking about it LOL

If any of you want to leave a review but are afraid to because then we might figure out who is who, just review by using the Challenges account. When you review just make sure you say right before your feedback that you are leaving an anonymous review because you plan on taking part in the challenge.

To save any confusion for people who do not check the forum, you might want to include in your summaries that this is an anonymous challenge. I'm not sure if anyone gave a review for the story posted yet but I am going to always leave a review as me to also explain why 'Challenges' keeps reviewing themselves to avoid anyone bitching to us about people violating rules etc... LOL and then give them a link to the challenge so this way if they want to participate they can.

Julie, you might also want to include the links to the stories in the first post, as they show up on the site so we can all keep track of them.

Sorry lol I'll stop now. :)

So far, we're 2 for 2 on challenge stories that put Nick in the Beast role LOL.  With so many Nick girls on the forum, I'm not surprised, but I am curious to see if anyone will make any of the other boys the beast (or reverse it and make a girl the beast).

Yes you must!

And so must everyone else! Especially since we've all spent so much time talking about reviews and how important they are to all of us, I was kind of bummed when I just checked the stories out and saw such a small amount of reviews for ones posted. Hopefully that just means no one has read them yet, because if you have and just didn't leave a review, then FAIL!
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge

I can understand people not wanting to read if they're still trying to figure out their own idea, but I agree, Mare, I do hope more people participate and then read and review the other submissions if they haven't already.  I think the anonymous reviewing is really interesting too.  It's been a long time since we had that on the site! LOL

We have a new entry!  "Nick and Belle...." http://absolutechaos.net/viewstory.php?sid=11146

Just a reminder that the story-writing part of this challenge ends August 31.  After that, we'll set up the guessing game part of it.  You still have a couple weeks to write, but it's coming up!

Last call for fairy tale challenge entries!  If you plan on participating, you have three days left to post your story.  The last day is August 31.  After that, I will ask for a list of names of people who participated, and then I will set up the guessing game part of it.
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: RokofAges75 on September 01, 2013, 07:44:02 PM
I added our last three submissions to the first post of this thread.  With that, the writing part of this challenge is over!  Now comes the "guess who wrote which story" part.  In order to set this up, I need to know who all wrote a story.  If you participated, please PM me.  You do not need to let me know which story was yours, just that you wrote one.'

Since it's going to be a busy week for me and I'm going to be gone next weekend, I'll give you a week to submit your name.  Please let me know you participated by next Sunday night (the 8th).  Guessing will start sometime the following week.

I'm glad so many people participated in this!  It's going to be fun trying to match up stories to authors!

Let the games begin!

Below is a list of the challenge entries, as well as a list of authors who said they participated.  Your job is to match the authors to the stories they wrote.  Notice that there are 12 stories and only 10 participants.  This means that either some authors wrote more than one story, or someone wrote one and didn't come forward, so you are allowed to guess an author more than once, and you are also allowed to make "wild card" guesses - that is, guess authors who are not on the list.

Please PM me your guesses instead of posting them here - that way, no one will be influenced by others' guesses, and you can guess your own story without giving it away to everyone.  You have one week to submit your guesses.  Next Sunday, September 22, I will post everyone's guesses here, and that's when you can reveal which story you wrote so we can see who guessed correctly.

Challenge Entries:

1.  Shorty and the Deceased

2.  Unintended

3.  Judy and the Beast

4.  Prisoner

5.  Beauty and the Backstreet Boy

6.  Brian and the Beast

7.  My What a Guy

8.  Nick and Belle....

9.  Beauty & The Extra-Terrestrial Beast

10.  Code Name: Beauty

11.  The Beast's Beauty

12.  Blondie and the Beast

Participants:

A.  Alexsgirl_ritz

B.  Carterkid

C.  Carter-Orange

D.  DelphinaCarter

E.  Julilly

F.  Mamogirl (Usako)

G.  Mare

H.  Purpura Lipstick

I.  RokofAges75

J.  Rose

I'll post them all before we announce what we wrote so you can see, but it won't be fair if we make them public guesses because then people can just copy each other's answers.  I submitted my own to myself a minute ago so that I won't have an unfair advantage in seeing everyone else's guesses first.

I have kinda a dumb question. What do you do for your own story to not give it away who it was during the guessing?
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: Purpura Lipstick on September 17, 2013, 09:34:46 AM
since they are guesses sent to Julie and she guessed hers before we started I just said which one was mine. Sure now Julie knows (I'm sure she knew mine already) but nobody else knows what I guessed for which story and when she lists the guesses nobody will know who guessed what just what the guesses where for a particular story.  That way you are sure to get at least one right ;)

Here is a short survey to fill out when you tell us which story you wrote!

Which story did you write?

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?

Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge

Which story did you write?
I wrote two, actually - "Shorty and the Deceased" and "Beauty and the Backstreet Boy."

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?
"Shorty and the Deceased" is a comedic parody, similar to the stuff I write in 00Carter, and involves both choppage and zombies, which are two of my favorite things to write about!  I was actually going to go the cancer story route with my original idea, but it got very disturbing very fast, so I tried to think of another idea, and this was the result.

"Beauty and the Backstreet Boy" was an idea that came later, when I thought about how Brian as the Wolfman in the Everybody video would make a great Beast.  All of the other challenge entries up to that point had been about Nick, so I really just wanted to get a Brian one out there.  This one fits my niche mostly because it's a Brian story, but it also has some humor and some romantic stuff, which I like on occasion.

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?
I figured everyone would match "Shorty and the Deceased" to me - and if not to me, then to Rose because of the zombies.  That's why I liked the idea of writing a second one that would be less obvious.  I didn't know if people would associate "Beauty and the Backstreet Boy" with me purely based on my writing style and the fact that I'm a Brian girl.

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?
I was a little surprised by some of them, but not most of them.  It was fun to see all the different guesses for "Beauty and the Backstreet Boy," but I was impressed that a few of you did match that one to me!

Which story did you write?
I was that other sneaky person who wrote two stories :) Mine were Unintended and Beauty & The Extra Terrestrial Beast.

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?
I'm not really sure I have a writing niche lol.  Unintended came from my love of historical romance type stuff and Beauty & The Extra Terrestrial Beast from my love of sci-fi.  I did plan on making someone else the main character in the sci-fi one, but Nick kind of took over.

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?
I knew some would guess mine due to my English spelling (although I did try to disguise it).

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?
Yes, I was a little surprised with some of the guesses.  A few seem to mix Lore and I up, which is probably due to our love of sci-fi lol.

Which story did you write?
I wrote Nick and Belle.

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?
I don't think I have a writing niche. I just thought of a plot that would suit this challenge. I guess the romance writer in me wrote this one. :)

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?
Yes. Because of how the story was written, the grammar, sentence construction etc.

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?

Not at all. I was happy that almost everyone matched the story to me. I'd like to think you all are familiar with my writing. lol

Which story did you write?
I wrote "The Beast's beauty".

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?
I guess it fit with my love for Brian and for angst/drama.

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?
Yes, I think mine would be very easy to guess since it wasn't a Nick one and for my probably mistakes,

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?
Not at all since almost everyone guessed mine.

Steph, your Beauty and the Extra-Terrestrial Beast one was the one that threw me off!  I thought it was Lore at first, just based on the title, but when I read it, I also noticed the "whilst" and thought it had to be someone outside the U.S.  I thought you at first, and I should have gone with it, but I was pretty sure you had written Unintended and wasn't sure you'd done two of them, so I guessed Ritz because I wasn't sure about the other one I had guessed for her.  I should have gone with my gut!  Good job!

Which story did you write? Judy and The Beast

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?

I took my love for bromance and dramedy and writing in first person and mixed them all together. I knew I wanted to stay away from the romantic aspect of the story and then the visual image of Brian as a basketball hit me head on and I went with it.

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?

Honestly I thought mine was blaringly obvious. lol

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?

I was really surprised at a lot of the guesses actually. I can see why some thought I wrote Julilly's because of the police angle but the others kind of threw me. Maybe a lot of people just aren't as familiar with my stuff as I thought they were. LOL I have to go figure out who write what because of my stupid use of letters. I'm not sure who I got right or wrong. I might repost my answers for everyone else!

I originally thought you'd done Judy & The Beast, but then couldn't decide if I was right or wrong and so guessed Julilly instead.  So far yours is the only one I've got wrong, even though I should know your writing by now!

I was sure Emily wrote a story lol I wasn't sure if it was Steph, Tracy or Julie who had written a second one.

Which story did you write?

I wrote "Blondie and the Beast".

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?

I think it fit because I twisted it up to stray away from the original romantic aspect the story is supposed to portray. Instead of loving someone for what's inside, I went to Lou lusting after Nick LOL. I like mocking things in the fandom (as shown in say 00Carter), so I feel like it showed.

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?
I mainly expected everyone to think I wrote Shorty and the Deceased which is also right up my alley. That's actually part of the reason I decided to go down a less gore filled path.

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?
A little bit. There were some interesting guesses for which one I wrote! (Beyond those thinking I wrote the zombie one lol).

 Which story did you write?

- I wrote Prisoner.

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?

- The suspense part. I really feel comfortable writing suspense :)

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?

- Actually, I thought it would be easy if people had read my stuff before but I tried to make it somewhat of a challenge. That is why I wrote canon and not AU.

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?

- I was shocked people thought Mare wrote mine. I am not sure if that is a compliment or not LOL but if it is I will take it.

Which story did you write?  I wrote Code Name: Beauty

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche?  Well fairy tales are already in my niche, fantasy, so I just added a bit of a twist on who Beauty was and that she had a mission that involved the Beast.

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you?  I thought for sure people would pair me with Beauty and the Extra-Terrestrial Beast lol!  I knew once I saw it posted that people would assume I wrote the science fiction story.  I only have three sci fi stories total... so I'm not sure why everyone associates anything sci fi with me ;)

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story?
No, I did get a lot of guesses for Beauty and the Extra-Terrestrial Beast and after thinking about it, it doesn't surprise me that people thouught Tracy or Steph wrote mine. .. steph and I have found we do share a brain and Tracy and I like a lot of the same plot ideas

In the US, we use "while" instead of "whilst."

except when you co-write with Steph and see all your whiles get turned in whilst... lol that's how I knew her cause she changes those in our collaboration all the time ;)  And Unintended I felt was her but wasn't confirmed until the whilst. ;)

I almost had you with Judy and the Beast but for some reason I thought you wrote the one with Gaston since you like to throw in strange stories from completely different angles, like the house story in that one challenge...

Yeah, that I can see and I have a few AU FBI stories to my credit as well. So it made sense that we were mixed up by a lot of people. I thought the bromance angle in the story would have been the clear giveaway. Julilly isn't a bromancy person typically. But we also share a brain so in the end it's all good! LOL

I tried and tried, and just couldn't get the mojo going to write a story for this one.  I had one very small idea, but it wasn't enough to write a story-- even just a one-shot.  I didn't even read all of these, but if I had participated in the guessing of the ones I DID read, it looks like I would have done pretty well!  I have to say I'm flattered that you guessed Julie's story as mine.  I can't remember if I read that one or not, so I'll have to go back and check it out.  I think it kind of makes sense, though!

Ugh, I'm mad at myself for not getting my guesses done on time! I set time aside to do it yesterday and I got about half of them read but I didn't make it... fail.

Which story did you write? I wrote My, What A Guy!

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche? To be honest, I had a lot of trouble figuring out what the heck my "niche" was when I went to write my story. Then, thanks to the help of the other half of my brain, I decided to focus on my love of procedural crime dramas. None of my stories are without their lighter, more humourous moments so that's where I took my version of the fairy tale, picking out the part of the Disney feature where Belle's dad gets carted off to the loony bin for ranting and raving about the beast except I put Gaston in his role instead as sort of a backwoods lunatic.

Before seeing everyone else's guesses, did you think most people would be able to match your story to you? I figured everyone would have it figured out before we even got to the guessing LOL I first thought everyone would figure it was either myself or Steph that had written it because of the British English, then I thought the plot would give it away.

After seeing everyone else's guesses, were you surprised at the guesses for you or your story? Quite! I have to say I was very flattered that people thought that I had written Mare's story - I'd consider myself lucky to be half the writer she is!

How did your twist on Beauty and the Beast fit your fanfic writing niche? I didn't think I had a writing niche but I guess some people know it. LOL

Bumping this thread because I think it would be fun to do another challenge like this, where we write anonymously and guess who wrote what.  I am not a big challenge writer usually, but I always have fun with those.  Any ideas for a new one?

I think maybe not with a fairy tale but I do like the idea of being given the same plot idea and then everyone having to guess who wrote what story.

Yeah, exactly, do the same type of thing but with a different idea, not fairy tales.  We did the opposite for that one challenge years ago where we had to write something completely outside our comfort zone and then guess who wrote what, and that was fun too.  I really just like the whole game aspect of it!

And there was that one year where everyone wrote a bus story for the Bous. We didn't guess but it was neat seeing everyone's take on it.

What about a picture challenge? We find a pic and we all have to write stories for it and guess who wrote it. I'm thinking one of their old school pics lol.

I guess we didn't. I just looked. I could swear we did that. I know we used to do those picture challenges awhile ago but I thought we did an anonymous one. Probably just another thing I thought happened but didn't. That's been happening a lot lately. lol

A picture challenge might be fun, depending on the picture I guess lol

Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge

But not too crazy. I feel like just a picture might be too easy. Should we add a genre?

Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge

Hmm we could do an old school fanfic cliche instead? Last time was bus problems and that worked out okay.
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: mare on July 10, 2014, 07:31:03 PM
People can look for pictures and then we can figure out which one we want to use and take it from there I guess? So if anyone has any picture ideas just post them in here. Or maybe we should start a new thread.
Title: Re: Fairy Tale Challenge
Post by: RokofAges75 on July 10, 2014, 07:57:42 PM
I feel like some kind of premise would be more fun than just a picture, like the bus crash one, and then it would be up to the writer to decide what genre to make it and which way to go with it.  But we'll see what kind of pictures we get.
