I'm kind of embarrassed to ask but what in the world is a muse?

It's like the "spirit" inside you that inspires you to write or do whatever creative thing you want to do.  It comes from ancient Greek mythology.

Basically, it's a scapegoat for writer's block. :D

Julie said it best, it's what inspires you to write. Doesn't have to be physical ... it's more a feeling. :-D
