Title: Nick on The Masked Singer
Post by: RokofAges75 on October 14, 2020, 08:49:44 PM
We have a thread for AJ on DWTS, so I figured we needed one for our favorite pink Crocodile on The Masked Singer!

I'm not usually a good guesser when it comes to this show, so it's fun watching it and knowing who one of them is from the beginning.  Nick cannot disguise that amazing voice of his, despite his attempts to, but he has so much range that he's got the judges stumped.  Their guesses last week were closer than this week; they were on the right track originally with boybands and Nick Lachey, but this week they were way off.  Which is good; I don't want them to guess him right away.  He's smart to keep changing up the style of the song and the style of his voice.  People that only know his BSB music and have never heard him sing live or his solo stuff may not be able to figure it out.

He has some tough competition though; they have a lot of great voices on the show again this season!

He's got crazy good competition so I hope his next song is a ballad so he can really show off. I'm so amused that he went from Bon Jovi to Britney. It's so typical of Nick but you can tell online it threw people off outside the fandom lol. Just waiting for him to throw in an oldies song or something from Journey.

I have a feeling the judges are going to start guessing him because fans keep tweeting about Nick and @ing the judges. I haven’t watched last night’s episode yet. I’m behind on my dvr watching.

I think he should do an oldies song too!

I wonder how long ago these episodes were recorded.  I don't know what the shooting schedule is for The Masked Singer, but it's not live, so the episodes are pre-recorded.  It could be that the whole season is already filmed, which means it doesn't matter what people tweet the judges.  I'm guessing they started back in the summer because remember when Nick did the two random live streams in July and sang a bunch of rock songs?  I bet he was getting ready for this.

Ah, good point. I didn’t even think of that lol

The episodes were recorded at the end of August. I'm suspecting when fans assumed he was in Florida, he was actually in California doing the show lol.

Yep, that would make sense.

He went dark on social media around then too. I'm so bummed next week is Group C cause I want more Croc songs lol. I think my favorite thing about the Toxic performance is Nick is embracing the madness that is that show and going full on. So great.

I know; I wonder if they'll do Group C two weeks in a row to catch up to the other groups.  Boo.  I'm looking forward to when we'll start seeing him every week.  This is the perfect show for him because it's so random and weird LOL.

I think so cause then we get the Super Nine where they all compete together. Which eh, normally I'd be more excited cause I like this wacky show but I just want more Nick lol. And yes! It's so perfect and why I wanted him on so badly, because I don't think the others would get as like into it as he is.

I could see AJ doing Masked Singer.  Actually, I could see Brian having fun with it too, if Brian was the type to do reality competition shows like that.  And who knows, Kevin or Howie could surprise us someday - what a great way for them to be in the spotlight!  Maybe Nick will pave the way for others to follow in his footsteps like he did with DWTS LOL.
Title: Re: Nick on The Masked Singer

I'd be so here for it if more did it. Lol.

AJ is even more distinctive than Nick, so he'd be easy to spot.

Post by: RokofAges75 on October 17, 2020, 09:36:50 PM
Yeah, AJ's voice would be hard to disguise.  Kevin or Howie would be hard for the general public to guess because people aren't as familiar with their voices.

I can't wait to see what he does next. I'm only watching the croc parts on YouTube as its not on TV here and I probably won't know who the other people are if its anything like The Masked Singer UK lol

I can see them all doing it at some point, let's hope so anyway

Well, at least there's not much competition in Group C LOL.  Most of them last night were not very good.  They definitely put the best singers in the first two groups.  I can't wait till we get Nick back!

These group C people were awful! I’m not even sure if Wendy Williams was aware she was on the show. She always seems so spaced out. At least the two female judges were actually not falling out of their clothes for once, so that’s promising lol
Title: Re: Nick on The Masked Singer

Wendy Williams was so obvious LOL.  Not only did it sound like her, but her behavior - laughing through the whole thing - gave it away too.  I'm not a fan of her, but I could tell right away just from the clips I've seen of her show.  She is a hot mess.

Nope. Back to group A. The week after we get Group B. Finally lol.

I don’t get why they do it this way. Why not split A,B and C evenly from the beginning? By the time we get back to A, you forget what everyone sounded like. Except for Nick, obviously lol

Yeah, I don't understand the way they're doing it this season.  I have a hard time remembering who's who after more than two weeks too.  Maybe they shouldn't have so many contestants if they have to divide them up this much.

Nick definitely has some competition.  I feel like the As and Bs are both pretty strong, especially now that they've had a couple eliminations each.  Hopefully he'll get to the end!

I think he was smart to go so wild on the weeks he had low hanging fruit still around. So I'm hoping he bekts out something and everyone is like woah.

Yes, that was a smart move to really show off his vocals!  It was beautiful.  I'm so relieved he went through to the next round.  Not that he didn't deserve to, but he had some tough competition from Seahorse and Serpent.
Title: Re: Nick on The Masked Singer

Next week is the Group C finals but after that is the Super 6. I'm curious what he'll do next.

So if Nick makes the final 3 after this week, we get a holiday episode next week where they each sing Christmas songs and no one goes home. Then the week after we get the finals. So Nick needs to not be unmasked this week so I get my Xmas song lol.

I know, I feel the same way. As much as I’d love for him to go through, I have a feeling this week will be his last one. Hope I’m wrong but those girls this year are pretty amazing. Of course I’m sure the winner will be the ex girlfriend of the mailman of P Diddy’s butler or something lol

Saaaaaammeeee!!! I was so worried in the Group B playoffs too because Seahorse is great and who doesn't like Elvis the singing surgeon. I figured Nick could beat him, but knew the judges liked Serpent. So it was nerve-racking. My husband made fun of me because "You and Crocodile are doing the same things with your hands during this elimination." The whole time I was like, can't Nick be in Group A (he could easily beat Popcorn and Clint/Linda Black, maybe not Sun) or Group C (they were just here to party until last week)? But then Jellyfish and Mushroom brought it last week and... So nervous. But always excited to see him on TV.

That was nerve-wracking!  I'm glad they got his head to head out the way first so we could enjoy the rest of the show.  So proud of him!  I think Sun is going to be his biggest competition in the finals, although I like how diverse Mushroom is.  I think Nick needs to keep changing it up and showing off both his vocal range and performance skills.  I'm excited for the holiday episode next week!
Title: Re: Nick on The Masked Singer
Post by: mare on December 05, 2020, 03:20:13 PM
He did a great job! Yes, the sun will be his biggest competition even though mushroom is awesome. I feel like that’s the guy who played Hamilton’s son in the original cast.

Wouldn’t it suck if the big reveal was Bindi Irwin as the sun? Lol
Title: Re: Nick on The Masked Singer
Post by: nicksgal on December 05, 2020, 06:53:48 PM
I was an anxious wreck, so I was really glad his faceoff was up first. Can you imagine waiting until last for that? I would have easily started pacing or putting my head between my knees. I was saying that Seahorse didn't do as well this week and I couldn't figure out why, especially while getting told I was being a biased jerk. I think it was song choice. But I also think that they shouldn't have gone with the faceoff format. It definitely should have been Nick, Sun, and Seahorse in the final three. As much as I like Mushroom, he was a number four in my mind.

I've enjoyed that Nick's been singing songs you wouldn't expect! Like Bon Jovi is absolutely in his wheelhouse. But then when Crocy first walked out, I turned to my husband and said, "I'm getting major Backstreet vibes, I don't know why." And he said, "It hasn't done anything besides walk out." And then the clue package started (maybe four words in) and said said "Nick?" My husband was baffled. After waffling because I second guess myself a lot in this show, I told my group chat I would give everyone $50 each if it wasn't Nick. Then doubled down the second week. Sorry, this is a slightly unrelated novel! (Or something you all already discussed.)

Anyway... It's been nice to see things out of his wheelhouse, but I enjoyed going back to his wheelhouse this week with Aerosmith. And that the judges finally started guessing any of the Boys this week. But I was also yelling at the TV when they were like, "Only Howie and AJ have kids," Brian's like the ultimate Backstreet Dad. I'm surprised Ken didn't go for it, especially with the crazy Backstreet knowledge he's brought up. I died last season when he brought up the Backstreet Project.

I'm super excited for the holiday episode! Another week like songs, no eliminations!

I would love it if Mushroom was Anthony Ramos Jr.! I'm pretty sure Sun is LeAnn Rimes. (I'll edit this if guesses aren't allowed.) I feel like there's a solid chance Sun will win, Nick will be second, and Mushroom third, but I really want Nick to win. In a normal season, I would love Croc and Sun, and be happy if either won. I'm so biased though, ha.

MARE!!!!!! It's been five years and I'm still mad about that. She and Derek should have gotten called out that their Dirty Dancing dance had no original choreography and wasn't even whatever dance they were supposed to be doing!!! I don't remember what it was supposed to be anymore, but I'm still mad about it.

End rant.
Title: Re: Nick on The Masked Singer
Post by: RokofAges75 on December 05, 2020, 09:27:06 PM
LOL At the Bindi Irwin thing!  That would be just his luck.  I do think Sun is a professional singer though - Leann Rimes is a great guess.  I wondered about Anthony Ramos for Mushroom the first week when there were so many Hamilton references, but that seemed too obvious for the first week clues.  I do think it could be someone from Broadway though.  I've seen people say Jordan Fisher, but I don't really know who he is beyond having heard the name.  I'm usually terrible at guessing, unless the person has a really recognizable voice, like Busta Rhymes or Wendy Williams.  And Nick, but only because we're such fans.  It's funny to me that it took until this week for them to start guessing Backstreet Boys.

I hate the format of this season.  The three groups sucked because I would forget who was who from week to week.  And I agree about the faceoffs on this past episode, even though it worked out in Nick's favor.  Seahorse was great, but I do think she picked a bad song this week.  I like Bruno Mars, but I hate that song, and it didn't suit her voice.
Title: Re: Nick on The Masked Singer
Post by: nicksgal on December 05, 2020, 10:16:25 PM
One of my friends is convinced Mushroom is Jordan Fisher and I also am not quite sure who that is. I thought Aaron Tviet for a while, but I'm not totally sure anymore (and by that I mean it's probably not Aaron Tviet, but I don't have a better guess.)

I've gotten three or four of them right ever, besides Nick (and as I said, I second guessed myself like crazy). Joey Fatone took me weeks, but I figured it out the week before his elimination, Donny Osmond also took me until the week he was eliminated, I figured out Gronk right away, and JoJo Siwa. I've been yelling at the TV since the first week, "You've been guessing Backstreet Boys the whole show at people who are clearly not them! Are you avoiding guessing on purpose to make it less obvious?!"

I never liked the brackets, just because by the time you finally saw people from the first bracket again, I felt like I'd forgotten what they sounded like. That was the best part about the first season. Half and half, then they mixed it up every couple of weeks, so I felt like I remembered everyone. I think the terrible aspects of the bracket format were painfully exacerbated this season because of the World Series in the middle of it. Like in this format they absolutely should have introduced A Group them B Group then C Group before going back for second eliminations or done all A Group then all B Group then all C Group, but then B would have gotten split by the World Series and I would have been angry at the World Series for interrupting Nick when I was actually equally interested in it. There was no way to win there. They could milk this show for so long, I'm not sure why they decided to do faceoffs for the final six anyway. I would be perfectly happy watching it for another month and I think several other people would too. Truthfully, I'm surprised they aren't using it as a lead in for Masked Dancer just to ensure people watch it. Because I definitely watched Ken's other show because it was on right afterward, there was nothing else on TV, and I thought "why not?" And then I've kept watching it to figure out why these terrible singers would do this to themselves on national television... Also there's still nothing on TV.
Title: Re: Nick on The Masked Singer
Post by: mare on December 06, 2020, 05:16:40 AM
I only started watching Masked Singer regularly last season so I missed out on the way they used to format the show. I found the way they did it this year, confusing because I did have trouble remembering who I thought was who from week to week. I’m not sure why they did the triple elimination thing either. Seems like with the lack of new programming they should have kept it going for as long as possible. It probably has to do with the judges schedules but if they changed them I’d be happy. I really dislike them all minus Robin. I spend most of my time wondering if Jenny and Nicole have any outfits that actually cover their boobs than I do watching the actual singers and I fast forward through Ken completely lol gotta love DVR technology.

Mersey said the Korean version of the show pretty much is a constant thing. It’s always only one person against another and the winner comes back the next week until they are defeated by someone else. She said if someone gets ten wins in a row they are finally revealed and then two new people go. It sounds more like the traditional game show we have here, like wheel of fortune etc... most likely it’s only a thirty minute show.

I am terrible at guessing who is who and like I’ve said in here several times, I almost never know who these people are when they are revealed so instead of chanting take it off, I say I hope I know you! I had no clue who Tori Kelly or Chloe Kim were lol I guess I’m very out of touch with pop culture these days

I've been obsessed from the beginning! That first episode when Donny Osmond belts out "This is the Greatest Show" in a peacock costume when no one really knew what to expect? I thought: YES! This is the greatest show!

They've had the brackets since the second season. I think a lot of celebrities turned them down the first season because they thought it would be a mess. I remember Wayne Brady saying that specifically.

I'm alright with Robin. I think they should replace one of them with Joel McHale permanently and it would be fun if the winner from last season was a full time panelist for the next one. Just mix it up a bit. I love probably 80% of Jenny's outfits and wonder if I could pull them off, haha. But you're right, they're all pretty boob-tastic!

I wonder if that's a hard schedule for the stars on the Korean version. Are they live? I haven't looked into it much. But I bet Nick could run a ten episode gauntlet.

I recognize 99% of the people once the masks are off, but I'm basically the Ken in my other chat. Just throwing out random guesses.

Don't remind me about Bindi lol.

So I only know if it's someone I listen to a lot or someone I used to as a kid. Joey took me a few weeks. So did Bow Wow last season. Jesse McCartney I knew INSTANTLY last season as he's my guilty pleasure. Wayne Brady too cause I used to be obsessed with Whose Line lol.

Seahorse picked a bad time to go outside the wheelhouse. Nick did it when he had weaker competition still and I think showing off his range was a smart move as he's a fan fave now. Because no one's been that diverse right off. Seahorse I think got nervous and tried to one up him and instead showed her weaknesses. She had a great voice though. She should be in there with him and Sun and Mushroom should've gone home. Bad format.

Sun is definitely LeAnn Rimes, one of the few country singers I like. I'd be rooting for her if Nick wasn't on this season lol. Love that this week there's no elimination. No stress!

I mostly consider judge guesses and think, "Ooh that is a good guess." Like Paul Anka was one of those. "Canadian" was the best part of my week. I laughed so hard.

Oh Whose Line. Now that people are watching it on HBO Max again, I've gotten the Arctic Tern sent to me so many times. Almost as much as the Brooklyn 99 open.

I think I would have liked it more if they had a face off between the triple eliminations and kept one of them. It's more fun when they fight for it. And same, I would for sure be Team Sun without Nick but I am so biased, it's not even funny. I'm so glad for the lack of stress this week. Now all I have to worry about is what stupid pun I'm going to send the group chat. I'm leaning toward "Christmas Songs, ALRIGHT!" this week, but I just broke down and bought the "As Long As Yule Love Me" shirt because I have a problem... So maybe I'll borrow that pun.

My general rule is I have to think about anything I'm buying (unless it's $20/$30 or less) for a couple of days. If I forget about it, I don't need it. I should have just bought it when I first saw it though, because I laughed for maybe ten minutes straight about it. The one time I broke this rule was the DNA jacket with the fancy printed lining. I'd seen the similar starter jacket at their residency, but just couldn't afford it, so when we saw it at the concert my friend said, "Just buy it, we go to enough 90s theme parties, you'll use it." And I was like bold of you to assume I won't just wear it on the first semi chilly fall day. It's a regular staple in my wardrobe for sure.

Christmas Time? Wishful thinking. He probably didn't most of his childhood singing Jingle Bell Rock at school holiday concert, so I'm willing to lean toward that one as a good guess. I've been hoping he goes a capella at least once this season, but worry that it would feel like copying Sun at this point. Maybe this is the week to do it. No stakes.

That article was misleading, but I loved that, it was beautiful. I want a BSB holiday album so much. I also liked how the little lyric heads danced along with their voices, it was an added beautiful visual.

Also, as previously mentioned, puns get me. "Santa jaws. Get it?" Hahahahahah, I got it Nick.

Dr. Elvis is a treasure. And I spent all of Busta Rhymes repeat clip thinking, well now that I know who it is, I'm surprised I wasn't sure it was Busta Rhymes at the beginning. That sounded just like him.

The holiday episode was a little underwhelming, but I enjoyed Nick's rendition of Silent Night.  I wish they'd had more holiday songs and fewer repeat performances.

Excited for Wednesday!  Even if Nick doesn't win, it's nice to have him in the finals.

I also thought they would have everyone singing new performances of holiday songs, especially after the backlash for the season three clip show.

Super excited for Wednesday! It's giving me something to look forward to.

I loved Nick's cover of Silent Night. I always enjoy when he holds a note forever lol. I'm hyped for Wednesday! Plus he's teasing single news so thanks Nick for saving the year. I want him to win but honestly him being in the finals is great too cause we got the maximum amount of performances lol.

I saw an interview with him where he said he was working on an album and the interviewer asked if he was Croc. And he was like "What's the Masked Singer lol?" But his face for sure said the opposite. I'm excited to hear some new songs.

And yes, maximum amount of performances! I've got my pink ready for Wednesday.

OMG I saw that one and laughed cause he's a terrible actor and liar lmao. You could tell he wanted to say it. Then posting on IG after croc beat seahorse about his seahorse tattoo? He's such a troll lol.

He's an absolutely terrible liar! I laughed so hard. I'm surprised he didn't just take a sabbatical from the internet until his unmasking aired. If someone else wasn't already running his social media, I imagine he hired someone just so he wouldn't retweet BSB fans something even more telling like "That crocodile seems familiar.... Hmm... Someone we know? Justin Timberlake?"

That has to be a hard secret to keep, especially since he filmed this back in the summer.  That's a long time to stay silent!  It'll be so satisfying for him to be unmasked this week.  He really has no poker face LOL.

I was so excited, I shrieked! I was waiting for that song the whole season! I knew he would!

I teared up!  What a perfect song choice.  I'm disappointed he didn't win, but so proud of him for making it to the finals.  Everyone was extremely talented at this stage, so it could have been any one of them.  Sun / Leann Rimes is amazing as well.

I was too excited to cry, haha. But as I said, I was preparing for that exact song the whole season. I'm a little sad he got third, but he was still amazing and I loved every second of his time on this season. And the added bonus of bringing me back here in round-about way. This season was stacked with amazing performers! I would have been happy with any of them winning (obviously happiest if Nick won), but I think I already said here that I would have pulled for Sun in a season without Nick. So good for Sun (I think it's Leann Rimes, it's still ten minutes out for me).

(I gotta stop responding on my phone. It auto corrects so stupidly. "Leanna" Rimes?)

See I'm sad he didn't win, but I think he should've gotten 2nd LOL. But hey, Masked Singer gets it wrong sometimes. They got it wrong last Season. LeAnn was great though so I'm not mad she won. Still happy he made it to the end. I KNEW he'd pull out a Journey song this season. I get why it's at the end though, cause he's covered Open Arms before. Can't give himself away LOL.

Also can we talk about the fact he has a new single on Friday?!

Oh, I mean, I'm for sure sad he didn't win. I also thought he was better than Aloe Blacc.  I was patiently waiting for it all season, but you're right, it would have given him away more.

I am so excited for it!!!! He literally just added all his other albums on spotify today (FINALLY) so I think it will drop at midnight! Excited to listen to some other stuff than Now or Never without dusting off the CD player.

Speaking of, yesterday, I was doing my weekly tradition of listening to Now or Never while fixing formatting issues on AC to post and my husband sits down next to me while I was listening to "Do I Have To Cry For You?" and says, "Why are you listening to Bryan Adams? I thought it was Nick Carter Wednesday?" And I was like, "Babe, this is Nick." And he just goes, "Oh, it sounds like Bryan Adams. It's good." And I laughed so hard, boys are so dumb... "Can't enjoy that, they dance and girls scream at them." Just thought you all would enjoy that funny tidbit. :)

Apparently, my plan this weekend is to listen to it on repeat until it's the top song on spotify. Except I'm also trying to finish my holiday story and it's very distracting, so I think I have to change over to something else. Help me!

I'm in love and fun fact it's written by Nick and the guy who gave them Don't Go Breaking My Heart. I've noticed in recent years Nick's the Boy who tries to make connections with producers. Love that he reached out to him for his solo album cause this guy gave them A material for DNA (six songs I think it was).

I love it!!!  I'm so excited for his album and glad at least one of them is making music while they're out of work LOL.

Super excited for the album! I think I read an article where he said it was half done?

And I also love that he's being business savvy. I think he's the one who's made the connections for a lot of their recent collaborations (FGL and Steve Aoki come to mind).

Also, I read an article yesterday on People where he was talking about how he was lying terribly (he admitted it) and avoiding talking about it with people, except the other Boys. He said when they asked, he just told them. And my 90s fangirl heart died a little from the joy, haha.

I love how Kevin said he recognized his thighs LOL.  So funny.  There's no way the other Boys would not have recognized his voice.  They would know his voice and his mannerisms even better than us.  So he couldn't keep denying it for long, especially since he's such a bad liar LOL.

That about killed me LMAO. Only one Boy has thighs like that.

I read that yesterday evening and DIED laughing! Both at the "I fooled AJ for a little bit" quote and Kevin not mincing anything and just saying "You're doing great, buddy." Because of all of them, Kevin wouldn't even bother asking. He would just move on like it was already confirmed, haha. And then I got to the "linebacker thighs" and I almost woke my husband up from laughing so hard, especially because that was the first thing he said, "Is this the football player? Look at his thighs."

I love the Masked Singer. It's so wonderfully weird every season.
