Title: New
Post by: rebellious_one on July 23, 2007, 05:35:40 AM
Okay, I'm actually gonna start a topic of my own.  :-\ I feel very rude for asking this question, but is someone, ANYONE starting a new suspense story?! Mare, if you're reading this I've been DYING to read more for The Thirteenth Step, but I'm actually surfing through AC, as well as other fanfic sites, looking for good suspenseful, thriller, drama/angst fic (I know, my genres expanded for some reason, lol.) and I don't think there's one out there that I haven't read. Please tell me that someone is starting on one VERY soon, or could someone just write one?! Lol.  :P

I know what you mean. I haven't seen any straight ahead, non romance suspense fics written in a long time. Hopefully Mersey will start one soon enough. She's great at it. As far as Thirteenth Step, I have been slacking this week and haven't opened any of my stories but after I update Why which I should really do first, i'll work on Thirteenth :)

Actually I just started reading your new story. Seems lie it's going to be a nice, suspensful one. I know that doesn't help you though lol but i'm happy about it.

I should try and write one... haven't done that yet... but the last thing I need is yet another story, so we'll see.

Ha thanks for plugging my story Julie! Yea I just started my first suspense story which is a completely different genre for me because I typically write angsty romances. Scandalicious is only two chapters in, but I've gotten a lot of really positive thoughts from readers so far.

Actually you have a nice suspense one going now! It's non BSB but I was still going to mention it because it's great so far. I don't remember the full title though lmao Something about a Bogeyman. It's under Honey and is a Supernatural Fic.

Children Like Me by Mersey is also another great suspense fic it's a BSB/Supernatural crossover. Not sure if you are into SN but thought i'd throw those out there as well. lol

Like Mare, I was just about to plug "No such thing as the Bogeyman".. I absolutely love that one.

I'd really like to try writing one as well.. but I'm definitely not good enough for that genre!

Aww don't say that! You should try and you might surprise yourself! The toughest part of suspense I think is providing all the character backstory and motive. Especially when you're writing a murder mystery or any kind of crime story. You want a REALLY good reason why the person chose to commit whatever crime they did. Not something lame.

Okay, I'm gonna insert a lot of quotes so I can reply to them, lol.

I really and truly can't wait for that update, like seriously!! Lol. Sounds like it's getting pretty intense, and I'm dying to find out what's gonna happen next!! (this sounds like a review now, lol.)

Why thank you.  ;D Although I had all the chapters posted up in Vaffel before (oops, don't go to Vaffel to read the chapters!! Lol.) I'm making a slow transfer over, instead of throwing it all up at once like I did with Incomplete. And although it doesn't help me, I feel honored to get a review from you Mare! Lol. I know your probably thinking "wtf?!", but I love all your stories!! I actually wrote a little about you in my story called The Rest Is Still Unwritten, where my character gawks at how much reviews you have and how you're sucha good author.
I should try and write one... haven't done that yet... but the last thing I need is yet another story, so we'll see.
I love it when we post story after story that's incomplete, and we can't just stay focus on finishing just one story. Lol. Hey, we're authors... good ideas pop up in our minds left and right!  ;) But if you do start on one, I would LOVE to read it!!  :)

I've actually never really read a story that's supernatural/crossover. Time for me to start reading a new genre!! Lol.
Like Mare, I was just about to plug "No such thing as the Bogeyman".. I absolutely love that one.

I think I'm gonna go read that right now!! And aww, what do you mean you're definitely not good enough for that genre?! I would love to see you do a suspenseful fic!!  :)

Well, you have a point there because it's like you think you've got it good, post the story up and your readers catch on to a little mishap in the story. Say, for instance, Howie got shot in the leg and he's prancing around in the rest of the story. Lol. It's like you always have to go back to what you wrote in the beginning so it can carry on throughout the story. And you're right about the criminals or the crimes/murders that occur. You can't just throw up some dude that commits these crimes/murders and that's the end of that. Lol. I know people still have yet to see how this Jeffery Donner character from my two stories (Incomplete and Empty Spaces) ties in with the Backstreet Boys, but it'll all come together in the end hopefully.

I actually just started reading that the other night, and just like Mare's story, I'm waiting for an update to see where that's going!

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I'd like to get another chapter out soon, but unfortunately I leave for vacation on Sat and I have about 555887 million things to do before then, so there most likely won't be an update until after I get back on August 4th. Although I am considering packing my laptop with me just in case inspiration strikes. We shall see!

lol I totally didn't even think about that one because it's not BSB. I was thinking about BSB stories. Bogeyman is a suspense though huh?  Go me. The fluffy romance writer is ripping apart naughty children in another fandom. hahaha.  That's almost as strange as Mare being excited about one of my stories.  :D

thanks Mare and Nijntje, you two are sweet. I am having a blast exploring the creepy genre.  *sighs impatiently thinking about how far away the new season is.*

OoO... can I suggest something?! *take yourself into consideration and pack your laptop!!* Lol. You're lucky you're leaving on a vacation, even though you have 555887 million things to do before then. But, I can wait till August 4th, so you can enjoy your vacation  ;D, although I still say you pack your laptop, cuz inspiration can strike at ANY time, especially when you're on vacation. They suggested your story to me, and I'm reading it right now. But, I have yet again another stupid question that I must ask. You guys can throw things at me later for asking sucha question, lol, but who is Sam and Dean?! Even though I don't know who they are, it isn't holding me back from reading it. Lol. I'm actually enjoying right now, even though I don't know who they are. Lol. Great job honey!!  ;D
Title: Re: New

Sam and Dean Winchester!!! *giddy squeal* are only two of the best characters on TV. I guess you haven't seen the show "Supernatural". It's really good. It's these two brothers (Sam and Dean) and they are like ghost hunters. (Thursday's at 9 on the CW)

And don't feel bad, there are no stupid questions hun.  :D  And it's ok to be confused because the majority of the stories on AC are Backstreet Boys fan fiction, but Sam and Dean are Supernatural. This story isn't even a crossover so it has nothing to do with the Backstreet Boys. Its actually the first story I've written that has nothing to do with BSB. But I'm excited that you're giving it a try. Hopefully we can convert you to watching the show. I'd never seen it until Mersey's story "Children Like Me" was featured story of the month. I read it and fell in love with the characters so I had to check out the show and now I'm hooked. lol.  If you get a chance, check out that story because it's awesome like Mare said, and it is a BSB crossover.

lmao Well, you are writing a suspense and following my 'things Mare will read' guidelines so there ya go! Not strange at all. Plus you're a great writer, you just don't usually write things I would tend to read so when someone goes agasint the norm and posts a non female pov suspense it makes me excited.  lol

I sure will!!  ;D And I've been meaning to catch shows on the CW, cause they had stuff like America's Next Top Model and The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll or whatever. But now, since your story got me all curious and interested, I'm gonna go check that show out, and more than likely I'll be coming back saying "thanks for getting me hooked girls!!" Lol. Totally random statement, but I've been watching Rock Of Love, does anybody else watch this show?!? I've watched Flavor Of Love, I Love New York, and now this. I LOVE to watch the drama unfold, I'm sucha dork!!  :P But, you suggested Children Like Me by Mersey?! I LOVE that girl's stories, after I finish reading your story, I'm gonna make my way over towards hers. *Sigh*, now I'm glad that I asked this question. Lol.

If the urge ever hits you, you should try it! You're English seems just fine to me. The worst that can happen is you write a little bit of it then decided it's not for you.

True. But I have trouble with describing scenaries, which obviously is very important for a suspense kinda story! So, I gotta work on that a bit more. And come up with a great idea by the way rofl.

I don't have enough english vocabulary either!! Lol. I often wonder if I start reading the dictionary, would that make my stories any better?! And I came to the decision that no it wouldn't, but it's all up to the author in how they paint a vivid picture in the reader's mind just by using words, your simple words. You don't need to expand your vocabulary in order to write a good suspense fic. I believe in you!!!  ;D But, like Mare said, the worst that could happen is that you start writing it, but then realize it's just not you. I know for a fact that romance isn't me, but I wouldn't mind giving it a try one day (romance... with maybe a psychotic twist, lol. I have to always twist my stories in some way) But just know whenever you do decide to give suspense to try, I'll be here to read it!!  ;) I love suspense!!

Lol. There's so many possibilities in the world of suspense!! That's the beauty of writing stories, although describing scenaries would enhance the story, it's a thing of making the story all your own. The story belongs to you and no one else, all of us are simply spectators, if you will, when it comes to your story. To tell you the truth, I REALLY wouldn't mind writing a story with someone else, or maybe even doing a roundrobin!! Lets start a suspenseful story together Nijntje!!  ;D

I would like to write a good suspense, cause it's been awhile since I've tried to write that genre, and I have an idea that I really like, but it's still got some serious plot holes I need to fill.  I hate that, when you have a good idea but it doesn't quite work for one reason or another.  Frustrating.

I haven't managed to catch an episode, but it looks SOOOO funny. I never really watched Flavor of Love or I Love New York, but I did get hooked on Charm School. And at least with Rock of Love I can sort of see what the girls are all fighting over. Flavor Flav? Eww lol He's like a skinny old man. At least Bret Michaels has got the whole rocker image going on.

I always in the back of my mind was thinking about writing a humor Nick fic about Nick being on one of those shows. Ha! Can you imagine?

Aww, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel outnumbered. Lol. Romance is good, lol. It's just, I found myself so wrapped up in the world of suspense, mystery, thriller, drama/angst kinda things. Romance makes me happy too... if only what happened in the stories would happen to me for once!! Lmao. Stories are often the lives we wish we could live.

Hey Julie, you are the one in charge of Dreamers Sanctuary, right?! I've read almost all the stories on that site. Lol. And didn't you, along with other authors write that one story, I believe it was called Survivor or something?! I don't know, but I would really LOVE to see a suspense story from you too ma'am!!  ;D But I totally know what you mean, about having an idea, it's pictured so perfectly within your mind, but when you start it, for some reason it isn't all falling into place like how you pictured it would. Lol. Argh!! Totally frustrating!!

Lmao.  :P I know I said that I enjoy stories that are more realistic, like Brian ACTUALLY being married to Leighanne and Kevin ACTUALLY being married to Kristin, and not some other chicks, but I'm actually enjoying the stories that have some other made up chick with the boys. Like, I read your story Widow's Walk, and even though it has some romance in it (which I'm not really into, sorry honey!!) I really liked that story. You've got us all wondering "what the hell is going on?!" and wanting to know more. That's the kind of stories I like (even though almost all of Mare's stories are like that, leaving us on the edge of our seats, wanting to know more and it actually KILLS me, lol.)
I haven't managed to catch an episode, but it looks SOOOO funny. I never really watched Flavor of Love or I Love New York, but I did get hooked on Charm School. That show is really funny!! As weird as it may sound, it actually is. And as for the other shows, I didn't like Flavor Flav at all (cause you're right, he is... ugly) but it was sooo funny watching those girls fight for this awkward looking man for two seasons straight. We all know good and well that they were only in it for the money, not love. Same goes for I Love New York. Now, Charm School was something different, very entertaining indeed!! And yess, at least in Rock Of Love they have a better looking man that those girls are competing for. And... LMFAO. I think you SHOULD write a humor fic where Nick is actually on one of those shows. That would be hilarious!! Do it Mel!!  :P

Yep, that's me - thank you!! ;D  There is a story called Survivor on my favorites page, the one where Bsb and NSync are actually on the show Survivor.  If that's the one you're thinking of, I had no part in writing that story; it's just one I love!  I do have a collab called "Fight for Survival" about the Boys getting in a plane crash though.  Old, old story; it was my first collab.  I know some people like it though.

I have written several suspenses before, but not in a few years, and the ones I have are kind of "eh..." in terms of quality, I think.  I will get around to writing another one one of these days... I just need to sort out my ideas.

I'm sorry if I come across rude or whatever, but may I ask why that story was discontinued. I would REALLY love to finish reading that story. Oh, thanks!!  No, you don't sound rude at all - perfectly valid question LOL.  The sequel was just trouble from the start because my original co-author of the first one quit on me... then another friend stepped in to take her place... but it just wasn't the same after that.  Combine that with poor planning and the fact that it was kind of unrealistic for the Boys to be put in yet ANOTHER situation like that, and the whole thing just kinda fell apart LOL.

I'm really glad you like the first one, and it's so cool to hear that it inspired you!  Thank you so much! ;D

Aww, that's sad to know. You guys were on a roll with the first one, and with the second one you actually couldn't tell that someone took another's place and whatnot. Although you found it unrealistic for the boys to be put into another situation like that, I thought it was fine... lol. More than fine, GREAT!! Lol.  :P I think it'd be cool for the original authors to come back and finish it, I can't imagine how much people would be in shock, I know it'll blow a lot of people away.   ;)

And... LMFAO. I think you SHOULD write a humor fic where Nick is actually on one of those shows. That would be hilarious!! Do it Mel!!  :P

*sigh* So many ideas for stories so lil time to write them LOL. I'll add it to the list somewhere LOL

LOL oddly enough I don't have any good suspense stories going. Closest one I have that comes to it is 00Carter, but that one has a lot of comedic elements too.

Maybe when I knock off another fic I'll try a suspense.

LMAO omg one of us at AC needs to do that

I just started reading, and I love it. I like the whole intro and everything, very clever how you guys put that fanfiction site together, bravo!!  ;D I'm waiting for more episodes to come out though.
I think everyone who said they wanted to try a suspense inthis thread should do it! lol
And I agree with Mare!! Lol. Or maybe... just maybe... a whole bunch of authors from AC can collab and do another story, similar to Mizpah and those other big time collab stories. Well, when 00Carter is complete. Gosh, so much fresh ideas I would love to see (including Nick being on one of those dating shows, lol.)

You know what?! This is just a random thought, and I don't mean to bash anyone (if someone takes it this way) but I really wish that the stars on AC were working. I'd at least like to know what my stories rank. Don't mean to come across conceded either, it's just I liked to see those gold stars right next to my stories.  :'( I'm sucha dork. Lol.

Haha! We actually not too long ago had a big debate on here about them and actually convinced Chaos to get rid of them. The thread is around here somewhere, but basically they were being abused. People were marking stories lower and not giving reason or purposely rating other writer's lower. And sometimes what readers saw as a mistake actually wasn't, so they would only give an author a 7 or 8 out of 10 hen they deserved a ten. So yea... To make a long story short we felt that it was unecessary to have them.

And haha Rose! I actually have some pretty good material for some of the fans based off of fans that I've encountered throughout the NG tour LOL
Title: Re: New
Post by: mare on July 25, 2007, 01:27:03 PM
LOL yup like Mel said, people were abusing the star ratings and even though I do agree it felt good seeing 5 stars next to your story, they were taken down more for the people who would only get 2 or 3 because people felt the need to lower star counts and not leave reviews.

Hopefully we'll be able to come up with a better system even something as simple as not being allowed to leave annonymous stars or being able to see who is leaving you what.

Wow... another random statement I'm throwing out there. I did not know that "Inconsolable" is going to be BSB's first single. I went to LD and discovered that. Strong vocals in that song, but a lot of people seem to have a problem with it, along with BSB in general. *Sigh*, I honestly feel that whatever BSB decides to do is their decision. I've never seen so much cutdowns in my life. Lol.

Lol. I have to agree with you two. I just don't understand how they can post polls on who'll be the next to leave and all that. Sure, I understand freedom of speech but I can't imagine how I'd feel if I was one of the boys reading what they are saying on LD. And from my understanding, Nick goes on there at times or something. I just find something highly wrong when they're "supposed" fans go on and do this sort of thing. Music is music. If anything, I appreciate the fact that they aren't following the crowd in what the world is listening to today. They are releasing something different, that's apart from what's being played all over the radio stations. But, that's just my opinion, which sadly, everyone's entitled to their own opinions, no matter how nasty it is.  :'(
Title: Re: New

^ most of the people who post stuff like that also think songs like My Humps and Sexy Back are the greatest things ever so you take it all with a grain of salt. I know I said that I enjoy stories that are more realistic, like Brian ACTUALLY being married to Leighanne and Kevin ACTUALLY being married to Kristin, and not some other chicks, but I'm actually enjoying the stories that have some other made up chick with the boys.

Well that's the romance I have in my stories... not usually blantently out there. More Than That is probably the closest story I have to an actual romance but I'd say it's still suspense/supernatural. :-D  I'm glad you are liking Widow's Walk, it's actually almost finished. :-D

Why would someone take the time to do that, then call it full?

Weren't the two versions of varying quality anyway? Because I have the one you edited up from them.

Yah, I think I heard that clip. It's like, Nick and Brian's singing part is good, and then when it gets to the chorus and AJ's verse, the quality just plain out sucks, and then it gets good towards the end. But yess, I know what you mean, why would someone take the time to do that and fool everyone that it's the fool version.  ::) I remember reading something about that on LD, but it sounds like it's gonna be a good song, they're vocals are strong.  :)
