Wow! Congrats! That's a pretty huge accomplishment . Add to the fact that you are one of, if not the only person who still has their own site and regularly updates. Big kudos to you!

I guess my biggest accomplishment is just that I'm writing again. I honestly didn't think it would ever happen because my hands are always numb and sitting at the computer hurts, but I figured if I write only a little each day, I can do it and so far, I have been able to. I'm not totally my old fanfic self, but hopefully the more I write the better I'll get at it. Writing suspense is helping.

Thank you!

You should absolutely celebrate the fact that you are writing again!  After such a long hiatus, I can only imagine how hard it was to get back on the horse again.  It makes me smile whenever I get an email saying you've updated.

Physical discomfort is definitely a barrier to writing for me, so it's even more impressive considering what you said about your hands and it hurting to sit at the computer.

I don't know what your writing setup is like these days or what would work best for you, but after swearing off laptops because of their tendency to randomly die, I'm team Chromebook!  I got one five years ago after we started using them at school, and except for a sticky L key that causes me some minor annoyance, mine is still going strong.  I like that it's light and portable like a laptop but much less expensive - and since everything syncs to Google Drive, there's no risk of losing files if and when it eventually dies on me.

I do most of my writing on my Chromebook these days and move around to wherever is most comfortable.  My weekend/day-off morning writing sessions always start in bed because it's the most comfortable, and I'm likely to keep at it longer when I'm comfortable.  I sometimes still write on my desktop computer but usually only when I'm already having a good writing day and just need a change of scenery.  I tend to get more distracted there, and it does get uncomfortable sitting at a desk after a while.

Congrats on posting your new fic, Mare!  It's nice to see your name among the most recently updated BSB fics again, even though I know this one is more Succession than BSB.  I hope the Succession fandom appreciates a good suspense AU!

Thanks! And no, I don't think these guys are as receptive to this genre. I don't have that many hits for the story but I know at least two people are reading it so I guess I will take what I can get. I wish I knew how to promote myself. There's just no way to do it anymore except twitter and that only really works if people follow you and I only have two Succession followers. I was hoping some BSB people might read it, who knows maybe they are. I think the good thing about it, is its so AU that you don't really have to know much about the show to get into the story. I don't know how to convey that to people though lol

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

As we approach Christmas and the end of the year, does anyone have any fanfic-related celebrations to share?

I'm celebrating the fact that I finally finished the monster of a chapter I've been working on all month.  It ended up being over 10,000 words, which is the longest chapter I've ever posted!  I didn't realize that until I looked at this word count plugin I have on my site.  Usually I try to stay within the 2-5k range, but this one didn't have any logical scene breaks, so I just let it go long.  My writing style has evolved since the Broken/BMS days, but I'm still wordy LOL.

Another celebration is hitting Day 700 of my writing streak yesterday!  I've written something for this story or its predecessor every day since January 22, 2022.  I'm going to fall short of the word count goal I set for myself at the beginning of the year, but at least I should be able to say I wrote something every day of this year.

I'm not, sorry.  Too busy plugging away at my own story!  I hope you'll try writing by yourself if you haven't found a co-writer.

Oh, that's nice!  (Unless it means you have to stay at work half an hour longer.)  I know Tracy used to write during her lunch breaks.

One thing in the new year is my schedule shifted slightly where my lunch is an hour instead of 30 minutes. When this was a thing during my training, I brought my chromebook to work and I'd write during my lunch. I might do that again too LOL.
