What's next for us?
« on: December 19, 2006, 09:37:08 PM »

Hmm, well now that the board is up and running I think that definitely the next advance for the site should be a fanfic awards. Obviously we all have more than enough on our plates right now with a server change, the holidays, and the new board but it's something to think about for 2007. What does everyone else think? Awards? Good idea? Crap idea?  :D

I think fan fic awards would be a great idea since there's such a wealth of authors on AC!

And if you wanted any help, I would love to. ;D

I started thinking about it, and I find that most of the time when you come across a fanfic awards in passing, 60% of the fics are from AC, so I figure why not an awards? I rarely know about awards things until people are posting their winners banners, and I know most awards have a tough time getting participation, we KNOW we would have lots of fics entered because there are so many fics being posted daily and people visit often enough they would know about it.

I noticed that also. Back in the hey day of pop music though, they were just from ordinary websites. Which is funny. But it's nice having AC, since it brings everything together. :)

True. The categories would all close really quickly, I think.

Yeah, I remember waaaay back in the '98-'02 days when we all had our own sites, and fanfic awards were abundant and full of entries...how the world has changed lol

Well, there were more diverse readerships then. More people went around looking for them. No, they really don't.

Course, we can't expect everything to stay the same forever. :)

I think this'd be an excellent addition to the site. I'm more than happy to set up nominating forms and all that good stuff.

Would you rather have judges who read it all and pick the winners or a free for all vote for the winners? Or perhaps some that are judged categories and some that are voted on?

This is just my little old opinion....

I think the categories should be judged, but the readers should also get to vote from the nominees for a Reader's Choice award for the categories. :)

I think a fanfic awards would be a great idea!  It's hard to find awards that actually follow through on a season these days, so one run by AC would be great!

Hrmm I think judging would be a good route but I also think voting would work as well as long as you could only vote once per category. And not once per day but once and that's it. I never understood the point of voting over and over again lol

Either way, it seems like a great idea!

I like the reader's choice idea! I think unbiased judging makes it less of a popularity contest and more about the fics, but a vote to decide a reader's choice or honourary mention award is a very good idea.

I agree on the judging + Reader's Choice too; that seems like the most fair method.

I think that without judges it would go into chaos. I've seen a reader's only based vote before where fan fics that had nothing to do with the category won said category. ???

I don't like that multiple voting thing either, Mare. I never got it.
