Same story different author
« on: August 02, 2010, 06:25:50 PM »

I just locked the voting and looks like the tourbus scenerio wins.

So here is your challenge:

Write a one chapter short story

The main plot should be about the boys tourbus breaking down.

Could be any genre and any style

All the boys should be in the story

No word count

No banners!

All stories should be complete by August 31!!

Have fun and good luck!

If i've forgotten anything, let me know!

Just throwing some general situational ideas out there - all group ideas.

- The guys take a vacation together.
- The guys go out for a day at an amusement park.
- The guys get snowed in somewhere while on tour.
- The guys go out on Nick's boat.
- The guys' tour bus breaks down.

Instead of adding to the list of ideas, keep the deciding factor to a minimum, I'm going to vote for tour bus breaks down. Are we going to do word count limits? Time limits? That sort of thing, or just write when and where you want.

I think we'll probably have a couple more limitations just to make sure it's the same plot,  so then we can see how it varies author to author once we pick an idea. At least that's the gist I got.

I do think there should be a limit because it is a challenge. Maybe not a word count but a chapter limit or something. Limit to a short story. I would say one chapter but I know people can't always get their thoughts into only one chapter. Saying all that I think the one that wouldn't fit into this criteria would be the taking a vacation together. I can't see that one being a short story. All the others could easily fit.

I'll turn this into a poll in a second.

Yeah, the point of this is to make sure the plot is the same. I think it's important that the amount of chapters is the same too.

For the bus crash, I think it would be pretty long. Or at least my idea would be. I know some people could do injuries and all that so it could turn out pretty lengthly. I've done challenges where there is a word minimum, so then you can do however many chapters you want. Same could be said about a max, but then people feel as if they are limited to what they are writing. I don't know, whatever you guys wanna do I'm game.

Yeah, I think it just depends on where you take it.  Like the bus thing - that's why I worded it "bus breaks down" instead of "bus crashes" - you could go the bus crash route, or it could be just a simple flat tire or out of gas that leads to something else.  All of those ideas, I could think of completely different directions, different genres, it could be taken in.  I'm not a fan of word limits, BUT that doesn't mean you couldn't just write a one-shot for the challenge and turn it into a longer story on your own if you wanted to. :)

I'm glad you like the ideas!  I was just throwing out anything general enough that seemed like it could be taken a lot of different places.  We can add specifics to whatever idea wins.

I am a big fan of word counts but I know a lot of you guys don't like it so that's why I think chapter limit is better. I know my mind didn't go to bus crash at all lol that's why I like the vagueness of it.

I could probably sit here and come up with a bunch of ideas but once I started thinking about the bus breaking down, my imagination left me in that direction. I'm not a big fan of word limits, but I understand why they are used. I did a Supernatural challenge where the minimum was 1000 words and I wrote over 16,000. Yeah, I tend to ramble a bit. Maybe we should do a due date? Then people could do write as little or as long as they want, but have people try to get it done by a certain time.

yeah a due date is always a must. We usually give everyone a full month.

See, that's why I like word counts because it kind of forces rambly people to not be rambly lol but depending on the story, sometimes rambly is a good thing.
