I know for me; I didn't think I'd ever be able to get into writing again either. The hardest part for me was actually just sitting down in front of the keyboard and actually doing it. Once I did that, then the writing just started to flow again. The only thing that I've really had to adjust to is my reading time. Before writing, I spent the time I set aside to write to read so as a result I'm reading less than I normally would. I decided to set my reading goal lower this year. Last year my goal was 75 books and I ended up reading 76. This year I set it at only 60, so hopefully I won't feel like I'm slacking. I'm a little more than halfway through my first book of the year so I'm already going a lot slower than usual. Normally I'd be on my second book by now. I'm also trying to read one fanfic a month as well. Well...more like skim for those lol

Wow 75 books a year! I think I read about 4 last year lol.  I only tend to read a few pages when I go to bed as I'm tired by then

I've just had a nice skive from doing work (it was quiet for a change) and read two chapters of The World Will Be Waiting, which I'm really enjoying.  I actually reset my password on there and signed in rather than leaving feedback as a guest.  Forgot that I'd actually uploaded a few stories on there years ago.

Nice when you get a quiet moment at work. I used to really enjoy those.

Doesn't happen often, so nice when it does

That was always my biggest hurdle too, just making myself sit down in front of the keyboard and write something.  That's why I've started doing it first thing in the morning before I get distracted by anything else.  If I'm not feeling it, then I give myself permission to stop after I've written something, but usually, one word leads to another, and they'll eventually start to flow.  But, yes, getting started is always the hardest part, especially after not doing it for a long time.

It makes sense that your reading productivity goes down when your writing productivity goes up.  The same thing has happened to me.  There are only so many hours in the day to devote to a hobby, and both reading and writing take a lot of concentration and mental effort.  I need to strike a better balance between the two because reading is important to writing, but you setting a goal to "only" read 60 books instead of 76 is far from slacking! That's more than one book a week!

Thanks! It was nice to see so many comments from you and a kudo, too!  I didn't even realize you had been leaving feedback as a guest and not your actual account LOL.  Yes, a lot of us panic-posted stuff there when AC was being so glitchy, we thought it wasn't long for this world.  The main site is basically useless from a writing standpoint now that you can't post anything, but I'm glad the stories and reviews are still there.
