Tangled Trap by Carterkid
Chapter 1 by Carterkid
"So what's the plan for today?" Howie asked. Sleepily, he rubbed his eyes but turned to smile for the few fans that had stayed up all night waiting for them to leave.
It was about five am and he and the rest of the
Backstreet Boys were about to leave Las Vegas where they had just played a sold-out show just ten hours ago.

"I dunno, I think the schedule said that we'd fly into San Francisco. The show's tomorrow…" Brian replied. Looking slightly dazed, he could not help yawning as he signed autograph book after autograph book while posing for photographs in between. The lift doors opened near them and he was relieved to see Kevin,
Nick and AJ step out.

Ten minutes later, they were finally on their way. The last photo had been
taken and the last autograph book signed. Now with their luggage piled in
and the bus moving, they were headed to the airport and the last stop of their tour, San Francisco.

Fumbling with the passkey, AJ finally managed to open the door to the room
he and Brian were going to share. Kevin and Howie had the one on their left
while Nick occupied the one on the right. Understandably, none of them had
wanted to share with Nick, not even Brian, his best friend. By the end of the day, though they were just staying for just two days, the whole room would
be messed up with clothing and other knick-knacks strewn all over.

Flinging himself on the nearest bed, AJ lay there, indulging himself
momentarily in the inviting softness of his bed.Brian walked in slowly,
dragging his suitcase and backpack with him. He set them down in a corner
of the room and gingerly lay down on the bed too. He quietly contemplated
staying in, and maybe composing a new song that had been running through
his head the last few days, when AJ interrupted him.

"Hey Rok, me and the rest of the guys are going to go to the mall. You wanna come with
us? It might be fun…" he offered softly. Stealing a quick glance at his
friend, he saw with great concern that Brian's face was once again shadowed
with pain and loneliness. Although Brian had never confided in any of them
his feelings or the cause, they were all very aware of
his sadness.

Blissfully ignorant of AJ's sympathy, Brian thought over the invitation
slowly, then decided. "Nah, y'all go ahead. I'll just chill by myself.
Maybe I'll take a walk," he said, "I've got a song I wanna think out."

Silently, AJ gave a slight winch. It was worse than they had all thought.
Brian only composed when he was in one of his more depressing moods.
Unfortunately, he couldn't do anything to help. "You sure?" he asked again.
"Yeah," Brian replied.

With a shrug of his shoulders, AJ reluctantly got up and changed into fresh
clothing. Donning a baseball cap that masked his trademark brightly colored
hair, which was currently purple, he paused at the door. "Well, we'll see
you at dinner, 'k?" he asked. Brian grunted and waved him out. "I'll take that as a yes then." he said before closing the door.
