She sat down on the couch and turned the television on. MTV 1515 was on, and the preview had mentioned an announcement from the Backstreet Boys. She loved the group, especially Kevin, and wondered what sort of announcement the Boys were planning. Her VCR was also on, taping the segment.

Chris Connelly’s voice came through the television speakers, "The Backstreet Boys held a press conference today in their hometown of Orlando, Florida. John Norris was there, and this is what happened. John?"

"Thanks, Chris. Yes, The Backstreet Boys held a press conference and everybody came. Instead of giving a recap, I’ll let the Boys speak for themselves." The picture shifted from John to a table where six people, the Backstreet Boys and a short auburn haired woman, were sitting. She looked familiar, but the darkhaired woman watching the screen couldn’t place her.

Denise McLean was standing at the podium speaking, "The reason for today’s conference is to announce some very exciting news. One member of the Backstreet Boys is undertaking a solo project, and would like to share the details with everyone. Kevin, why don’t you come up here and make your announcement?" Denise smiled at Kevin as he stood up and walked over to the podium. The woman watching television smiled and leaned forward. Kevin was going solo? Oh, she was very excited and couldn’t wait to hear when his CD would be released. Finally now maybe his talents would be recognized.

"Thank you all for coming today," Kevin stood at the microphone looking very nervous. He kept glancing at the woman who was seated in between Brian and Kevin’s now empty chair. In her living room, she scowled at the screen, wondering who this woman was and why she had the audacity to think she was part of the Backstreet Boys. Get her out of there, and show more of Kevin, I want to hear everything he has to say.

"But actually Denise has the details slightly wrong. It’s not a solo project, it’s a duet." He smiled again. "My announcement is that Jamie Saxon has agreed to make me the happiest man on Earth and has accepted my proposal of marriage." The room erupted in a flurry of shouted questions, and the camera focused on Jamie, who was pulled out her chair by Brian and AJ and led over to Kevin. Kevin wrapped his arm around her shoulder, and held up his other hand to the reporters.

"Wait a minute, hold on. To answer any of the questions I’m pretty sure you are going to ask, no date has been set at this point in time. We would like to get married in a simple ceremony, and for safety and security reasons, all details will be kept secret. We hope that everyone understands our need for privacy, and that our wish will be respected."

"Are you leaving the group, Kevin?" a voice shouted.

"No, no I’m not. Brian didn’t leave when he and Leighanne got married. We will still be the Backstreet Boys; what happens in each of our personal lives should not and will not affect our music and what we do."

"Can you tell us a bit about yourself, Jamie? Are you in the music industry?"

"No, I’m an attorney. . ." The woman watching television tuned out Jamie’s voice. That’s right, Jamie was one of the attorneys who had represented Kevin and Nick a couple of years ago. But she was seething inside. Married? My Kevin is getting married to someone else? How dare he? Doesn’t he know he can’t do that to me? Jamie’s face was still on her screen and it annoyed her. Who the hell does that bitch think she is? She can’t have my Kevin, no one can except me. Running a hand agitatedly through her long, curly black hair, she watched as Kevin continued to answer questions, smiling and holding onto Jamie.

She couldn’t stand it any longer. She hurled the remote control at the screen, watching in satisfaction as the remote went through the screen, causing sparks to fly out of the now dead television. The picture had blanked out immediately, the last image being another close-up on Jamie. That’s only the beginning, bitch. You will never marry Kevin, I’m going to make sure of that. I am the only one for him, and it’s about time he remembered that. There will be a wedding, but it will be mine and Kevin’s. You will not get in my way, no one will. She smiled again, a cold satisfied smile. Oh yes, no one will ever separate Kevin and me again.
