I thought shayla was gonna say she was being transfered out of state which would have made it impossible for nick and alyssa to see each other. Oh Mel... *sigh* So I haven't read this story quite yet (I just finished UMS) but when I went to read the first chapter I saw this link and was curious, so here I am. And Mel... I'm totally with you girlie. I don't condone cheating in anyway either, but that doesn't mean I can't WRITE about it. It's too bad people are taking it far too seriously. It's a story, it's fiction... it's meant to entertain, so it's too bad that people are shying away from getting a chance to read a truly good story and to see the bigger picture that's being presented. I'm so happy you're standing your ground though! Course I relate to you cause of USA, so just know that you aren't alone. Your true fans will stick with you no matter what. I'm just sorry you have to deal with it in the first place. It's unfortunate and it's hurtful, as much as you don't want it to be. *hugs* I was just surprised you were getting this reaction period, cause we talked about the "Poor Nick" syndrome, and I was convinced you would have no problem since it involved him, but I guess not eh? lol Oh well, don't let it bother you! Honestly, I'm against the cheating thing and all, but they are meant to be with each other. Keep Up the good work. You are an amazing writer.

Hey Mel, first of all Congrats on the Felix award!!!! you so deserve it!!! Now, I think it's a shame that you had to write this because of what some people were saying or 'cause they disagreed, I'm a very open-minded person and I'm open to new possibilities, that doesn't mean i think cheating is right, I'm totally against it, but focusing in this story a) it's fiction, even though this happens on the everyday life, in this case it's only "fiction" portraying reality, so I don't see a problem with that, and b) in a story there have to be issues and problems, it can't all be pink, where would the fun be huh? So, I just wanna say that I'm very glad to know that you'll keep writing what you feel and how you want the story to go. So like always, keep the amazing work on :D
Author's Response: Thank you. I'm actually really proud of my award and I think I worked hard to get it and it was well deserved. For me runner up is just as good as winning since I was up against some anazing stories. And as someone did point out to me my story isn't exactly a straightforward romance so I see winning an award in a romance category a really great acheivement. Alright, ... I never really get to leave you a review cause I barely even have time to read. Sorry for that! I know that many writers thrive on feedback and I try to at least leave one once in a while.
First of, I love your stories and your writing style! When I started reading UMS I had mixed feelings about the story, just because it's so different from the other stories. But when I got more and more into it and when the story progressed, I fell in love with it! And you know why? Mainly because of your unique style of writing. I admit, I'm a sucker for those "getting married and living happily ever after" kind of stories, and this story doesn't fit in there. Your writing has way more different emotions in it than many others do, that's what I love and what makes it so much more real! Life is not always easy and just happy and your story shows that. It shows that it life has more than just one side to it.
Okay, enough rambling here ... about cheating in a relationship ... I personally think that it is wrong and at this point would never consider doing it. But as you've said, there are many reasons for doing it and usually both parties are at fault. So under certain circumstances it is understandable.
Anyway, I'll always love your story and I think it's great that you are standing your ground on this one. Keep writing the way that makes you happy :D
And last but not least ... update soon!
Author's Response: Thank you for being honest and it's okay that you don't always get a chance to review. Sometimes I slack off too on stories when I get really busy. As long as you try to pop in every few chapters or so when you can it's completely cool. I'm glad to hear that you think I'm unique. Sometimes I've actually wished I wasn't and tried to be like other authors, but I've finally come to the conclusion that I should be proud of who I am and the way I write, so I'm really trying to focus on standing my ground like you said and sticking to my guns with this one. It seems like majority of you guys will be supportive no matter what. I just shouldn't listen to certain people trying to tear me down I guess. Thanks so much!

Mel, i was so excited I thought it was another update, but I'm glad you brought this up. I've been reading some of the reviews people are leaving ALTOS especially on those "scandalous" chapters and all I have to say is they need to get over the whole cheating thing because it's only fiction! We all watch movies and shows where cheating occurs and it's just entertainment! Mel you are an AMAZING writer especially because you don't write the "always happy" fic but because you make it "real" so just write what you want and your true fans will keep reading and supporting! I know people give Dani alot of crap on USA as well but both of your stories are great so keep up the awesome work!

Nothing you write or portray through your writing should reflect on your personal beliefs unless it's autobiographical. That would be like saying any person who writes about Nazis is themself a Nazi, which obviously is not the case.
You don't have to agree (or disagree) with something to write about it, because regardless of how you feel or I feel it's out there, and it's going to happen despite our opinions however different they may be so why not try to shed what light you can on complex situations.

Author's Response: Yea I know you are a fan of both USA and ALTOS which are similair in some respects. I've spoken to Dani the author USA about the cheating thing and she said she's gotten a lot of hurtful comments about Leslie. And I've had comments made to me that if Alyssa cheats on Sean she's a whore. It's interesting cuz its always the woman that gets the flack. But back to USA Dani and I find it interesting how our stories are so similair, but people are a lil more open minded with my story. At first I thought it was the "poor Nick" syndrome. In fan fiction readers usually always sympathize with Nick no matter what side he's on. But obviously not because some people are still upset. Maybe it IS easier to dislike Sean because he is an original character. If he was one of the guys it would be much worse I guess. Either way it just hurts that some people would just label Leslie and Alyssa whores and be done with it. I LOVE USA and I know for a fact that Dani does a damn good job in trying to show just how torn Leslie is between Brian and Nick and the guilt she feels. I really want to do the same w/ ALTOS.

First off you are a great writer! I love your story and I love the fact that you don't write those lovey dovey stories that some people write. Those are not even interesting. While I think that cheating is wrong and that people shouldn't do it but this is a fictional story. You have to have something to write about plus it makes Alysia and Nick more real as characters.
I am glad that you changed your mind because you can write amazing stories. I am also glad that you wrote a sequal because I did really like how the last one ended. Keep up the great work

I for one am against cheating in any kind of way, I don't think it's right to do people that way. But I like where you are taking the story. I mean this is a fan fiction anyway, it's not real. Even though this stuff does really happen and I hope I won't have to go through any of that in my life time. I think you should do what makes you feel good.....if you want to write the things you do then go a head I mean people fell in love with the way you was writing in UMS so why change it. If you don't write the way you want you'll fall out of love for writing and that's stuff that you love to do so in my mind you should keep doing what you think feels right and not change anything. I was already thinking of quitting, but there's too much I want to accomplish to stop now and I've definitely seen a personal growth in my work that I want to explore more.
