I can understand how the last half wasn't easy.  For him to have such a huge lapse of time.  He is progressing rather quickly.  At least he made up with his mother, even if he doesn't remember, she does and will.

Author's Response: They did say he was progressing quicker than they originally expected. That's the thing with this disease it can literally vary from 1 year to 10. It's sad but there's no way to know until it happens. Yep, he made up with Jane finally, but look what it took to make it happen.

Oh gosh... the exchange he had between him and his father, and then his mother seeking forgiveness... DO YOU LIKE TO MAKE US EMOTIONAL ROSE?!? Lol. Fucking damn. And the way you end this chapter... :'( You tapped so perfectly into his impatience and anger towards them, with him really believing it was 2011 and having a short fuse with anyone who tried to tell him otherwise. This disease is a very scary thing, one I don't want to think about, and you portray it so perfectly! Poor Nick. :'(

Author's Response: I always noticed in HOC Nick has a very awkward relationship with his father. More so than the one with Jane even. Like he talked to Bob, when Jane started behaving like Jane... but when Bob came down, Nick did his best to avoid them. They all acted weird, so it didn't seem a stretch to blame part of that on distance. Like you never hear anything about Nick with his stepmom, stepsister, or youngest little brother. It strikes me as odd. And Jane, I knew from the beginning he'd have to forgive her, and that she'd have to ask for it. The only thing was, I knew it would take something huge to get there, so I made Aaron the sacrifice :(. Thanks so much about Nick's episode, a lot of research went into this to make it come off as realistic as possible. I'd never wish it on anyone :(

Once again, tears!  You really know how to put all the emotion in there!

Author's Response: I love hearing I made people cry. As mean as that sounds it tells me I did my job. So thank you! :)

Aww, this chapter was so sad! I love that Jane finally apologized and Nick forgave her, but the second scene, where he thought it was his grandfather's funeral, just broke my heart. :( Poor NMN... Sorry I'm so late reading and reviewing this, ZDR, but you did a beautiful job with it!

Author's Response: I know...:( NMN is getting harder and harder to write. And hey it's okay, life happens! :). Thanks my ZDR partner in crime hehe.

aww poor Nick getting confused as to who was dead. At least his whole family knows now so they can move on with their lives and leave Nick in peace, Janes' speech was nice to hear. Good update!

Author's Response: Yes LOL. Eager to get past the Carter clan? Haha. Thanks Mare! :)

I'm one of those annoying people who's reading your story but never takes the time to stop and review. Maybe because english isn't my native language. But this chapter screams for a review. Great job. Well done. This was amazingly well written! I cant wait for the next chapter.

Author's Response: Well I'm happy I finally wrote a chapter to get you to review! hehe. And for someone who's native language isn't English, I gotta say, yours is impressive. I only speak/read English though so I'm impressed by anyone who could learn another. I never could haha. Anyways...(sorry, I ramble) thank you! I really appreciate it. :) I'm happy you've been enjoying the story so far, hopefully I'll write another chapter that screams for a review LOL.

I'm so glad Jane apologised as it was long overdue. I know it doesn't make up for all the shit she's put Nick and the others through, but it's a start that she is even able to see herself as the person in the wrong. The funeral was so so sad though, the way that Nick lost it and thought it was 2011 is just so heartbreaking. I'm glad Kevin and Brian were there with him to reason with him or there would've been a huge scene. Poor Nick :(

Great chapter Rose, loved it!

Author's Response: It really was, and sadly it took Aaron dying to make it happen. It doesn't make up for it, but I feel Nick recognizes the fact she even faced what she's done is the biggest step so it deserved his forgiveness. The funeral itself was SO hard to write. Especially when Nick loses grasp of reality. That wasn't easy, so thank you! *hugs Nick* I put him through so much LOL. Thanks Steph! And yay, you're all caught up!

Aaaw no :( The disase is getting all of him... I'm glad his mother had apologized. The end of the chapter was so sad! Poor Nick. I love the way you write, it's amazing. While I was reading it, it was like I was there. Please update soon!

Author's Response: Slowly but surely, it had to happen eventually though, sad as it is. Jane needed something big to goad her into into apologizing, sadly Aaron was it. Thank you so much! I always love your reviews. :)

OMG. Rose, this was an amazing chap. I love the irony of a beautiful day but such a tragic end to a life. You were so descriptive for the entire funeral/burial scene. Loved the fact that Jane apologized. Hopefully her and Nick can be at peace. The ending killed me. So freakin sad...poor thing being so confused. Thank God the boys and his family were there for him. I really hope you update soon :)

Author's Response: Thank you Sel! Typically I like to be more of a descriptive writer with thoughts and motives of the characters but there's some scenes that need to be described in as much detail as I can manage. This was one of them, so thank you. I needed Jane to apologize, but I also needed something to make it happen. Sadly Aaron was it. :(. The ending was so hard to write, so thank you again. It's one of those moments where I'm actually nervous about a chapter because of that. I want to churn out another chapter by Wednesday, but I make no promises LOL. :)

I liked the way you described the funeral, how it was a nice day outside but Nick felt like it should have been raining and bad weather. I feel like that too at funerals when it's nice outside. I'm glad that Jane finally apologized to Nick, it's too bad it had to be under these circumstances but maybe that woman has finally come to her senses and figured out what's really important in life. The last bit where Nick forgot where he was and thought he was at his grandfather's funeral was heartbreaking. I loved how you ended the chapter with him breaking down, it was so fitting since he was trying to be so strong for everyone else. I really liked this chapter, Rose.

Author's Response: I almost wrote it raining but decided it was too cliche, especially in California. All funerals should be rainy though, it feels wrong to be otherwise. I knew Jane from the get go was going to need something major to finally admit she was wrong and apologize. I wrote Aaron the way I did not only because it was realistic given his tendencies now (was so NOT shocked at the rehab news), but to have if I realized I'd need a death to make it happen. It's tragic but sometimes it takes a major loss to finally get your priorities straight. That last bit at the funeral was SO hard. I kept deleting and rewriting and second guessing that part. Eventually I read what I had, realized I was being too anal and stupid about it lol, and went with it. So I'm definitely happy to hear you liked it. Thanks Steph! I love your detailed reviews, I really do, they're such a help at times to see what I'm doing right. :)

I'm glad that Jane finally apologized to Nick. Poor him, all mixed up. This is so damn sad. An amazing update as always, Rose.

Author's Response: It's sad it took this, but I knew when I wrote Aaron the way I did that his purpose would be to finally bridge the gap between Nick and Jane. It's tragic it took that, but I felt nothing else would do it. I feel bad for Nick too, writing his breakdown was really hard, actually. Thanks MA :)
