Author's Response: Researched it! Consequently, I also found this really neat article from earlier this month in which doctors were able to communicate with a patient in a deep coma asking yes or no questions and mapping MRI scans. 5 out of 13 patients they tested were able to correctly answer yes-or-no questions this way, by concentrating on the "yes" statement following the doctors asking them - like consistently. It was really interesting, you should check that out if you're interested in this stuff. It'd be amazing if they were able to find a way to communicate with comatose patients.
