I was just thinking, "I hope Kevin doesn't decide to go stay with his family!" Oh, that is such a bad idea :( I am so impressed with the case you've built here. So creepy. I'm a little scared of what was in your head here. Lol. And the pharmacist in me has to point out the typo-- it's St. John's Wort, not St. John's Wart. That would be something else entirely :) . I had to have a good laugh before I could go on reading. Sorry! Chances are I may have been one of the only readers who noticed that.

Author's Response:

Yeah, sometimes I scare myself too! Thanks, it was both fun and a pain to try to come up with all the layers of this case as well as the plot twists coming up. You are the only one who noticed lol thanks!

Sad face :( at the little boy and the story of what happened to Kevin's dad.  Young Kevin doesn't seem at all like the Kevin we know.  Though, who knows?  He could have been a terror in high school for all we know.  My best friend's mom was actually one of his high school teachers.  Perhaps I should ask her?  :)  Seriously though, I'm interested to see how what happened to his dad and going through the police academy/ working as an officer/detective changed him.

Author's Response:

That's interesting! You'll have to ask her! I kind of picture Kevin in high school like he was before he left the group, serious and stern. I think I only wrote him young in this one chapter as a flashback but I just went with stereotypical high school age when you're asked to do something you don't really want to do type behavior. his dad is a major part of this story and the sequel so hopefully the more you learn about them, the more things will fit into place.

Love the family dynamic here!  So, Kevin is 21 years older than his youngest brother?  Do we get to hear the story of how that happened?  So sad with the tie-in to Kevin talking to Nick about how he should never go with a stranger.  This is why I don't think I could ever work in law enforcement.  Working in the medical field is hard enough sometimes.  On the other hand, my best friend's husband is a cop, and I can totally see him having his future children arrested for doing something like smoking at school!

Author's Response:

To be honest, I don't really remember if I touched on the big age difference or not. Maybe in the later chapters when we get more into dad and what happened to him, but I guess it's just kind of left to the reader's imagination how it would happen, you know Nick was probably a 'happy accident' lol. I also wanted to show that Kevin was also very much the closest thing Nick had to a father because in a lot of ways as you'll see, that's the kind of relationship they tend to have. There's no way I would be able to work in law enforcement either. I would end up never letting my kids out of my sight! I can ony imagine some of the things you have seen working in a hospital setting. Thanks, Emily!

Hi! I started reading this out of curiosity and oh y gosh, it is SO good! The descriptions and emotion are so well done! I've never read a fanfic quite like this, and though I've only read a few of your stories, I think that so far (as one chapter goes) this is my favorite. I'm so jealous haha. I am having a little bit of trouble with imagining them AJ, Brian, and Nick all as little brothers. I know that this is something you really like in AUs. I like the characterization of them as actual brothers, but I'm having a hard time imagining, say, AJ an Nick coming from the same parents looks-wise. Then there's the age thing. I'm working on trying to see very young Nick, Brian, and AJ, but I just imagined adult AJ getting caught smoking in the boys room. All I can say is god bless Mrs. Richardson! Haha

Author's Response:

Hey Emily! Thanks for reading this :O) I completely understand what you're saying about the guys not looking at all alike. I had a hard time actually deciding whether or not to have AJ as part of the family or just Brian's best friend but he needed to be a part of this family. I actually can buy the other three as siblings because in my head, Nick looks like his mom, Kevin looks like his dad and Brian is a mix of the two. As far as age goes, I like to just think of them in the young, just starting out BSB phase. Brian and AJ are in their late teens so that's what I pictured when I wrote this. I think out of all of them, Nick is the only one I had to keep out of character a bit. I started him out older but for the purposes of this story and the sequel I knew i'd be writing, I had to make him younger. LOL about an older AJ getting caught smoking.

Noooooooooooooo!!! That was mean! So it wasn't another brother, but an evil sister instead?  And they all trusted her? My god, you had me fooled with that lovely happy ending, lol.

Amazing story Mare, I'm so glad I read it as I've enjoyed it from start to finish. I was only going to read a couple of chapters today but as I was getting closer to the end, I just couldn't stop! I'm having to record UOAT as I couldn't stop until I got to the end :)

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reading this, Steph! You certainly put in a lot of time reading today! I am so flattered you chose this over UOAT! Ther is a sequel already completed for this one called Scars Run Deep and Wide. When you have time, feel free to see what happens next with Ariana and the Richardson clan. Thanks again for being such a great reader!!

Hmm, can it really be the very end though? What about the person who killed John? Was it another of the murder gang doing it to shut him up before he gave any details away?

Hopefully I'm wrong and they all live happily ever after though, I do love a happy ending after all!

Author's Response:

Yeah, not gonna happen lol It was fun to at least hint at a happy ending though.

For a moment I thought their dad was dead! I hope he makes it.

Phew, thank god for that! I'm so glad Nick bit him hard enough for him to drop him, and for Kevin to shoot him.  I would've shot him somewhere else though!

Author's Response:

LOL I bet!

Oh my god, that chapter was just so amazing! John and Tyler are completely crazy for doing this.  Poor Nick and Patty, those kids are going to be messed up if they get out of this alive.  And Jackie, I hope she doesn't die too.

Author's Response:

Thanks! I enjoy seeing the word amazing lol I felt really bad for putting Nick and Patty through all that and of course Jackie too!

I'd think it was a dream, or rather a nightmare too!

I just hope Kevin and Howie can get there before anyone else gets killed.  Glad Anita wasn't dead and was able to help, ugh, imagine that, a serial killer for a husband :(

Author's Response:

That was one of my thoughts while writing this one. What would you do if you found out you were married or had a father who was a killer?

OMG so it's Nick's little friend's dad? That was really creepy with the figures.  I just hope his mum is OK and that arsehole murderer doesn't realise she's figured out the connection!

Author's Response:

Oh, Okay. Now I know what you meant in the last chapter's review! LOL I know, I think those Precious Moments figurines are creepy to beign with. That's why I decided to use them.

It's a good thing this story is already complete or this would be one big mean cliffy!

I really wasn't expecting that! How will he find Nick now? I hope he does find him.

Author's Response:

LOL I left a lot of mean cliffies in this one! Not sure what happened but my guess is I killed or nearly killed someone?

I used to play that game where you say whether you're getting warmer or colder to the object, obviously not with dead bodies LOL.

Great chapter, so full of suspense!

Author's Response:

Me too! LOL I loved that game! Thanks, Steph!

No wonder Kevin was so angry with his dad, I don't think I'd be too quick in forgiving him either after thinking he was dead for 8 years.  I'm glad Howie didn't know either, or that would've been a real betrayal to Kevin.

But with some time I hope things get better and of course, that they find Nick :)

Author's Response:

Yeah, I wanted to keep Howie as much in the dark as Kevin.

Phew, at least his dad isn't the bad guy, but still, how could he leave his family for all those years and have them all think he was dead? I'd feel angry too and cheated!

Author's Response:

Yes, he's not bad in the evil sense but he won't be winning any Father of the year awards either! Thanks, Steph!
