AN INNOCENT MAN


When I went with the group that fateful day,
I had no idea it would turn out this way.

Letting you slip right through my fingers,
Then having that feeling that constantly lingers.

I watched you die, right in front of my eyes,
Thinking I was helpless, no matter how hard I'd try.

There were so many things, that I could have done,
If only I had thought, and done at least one!

I shouldn't have listened to the other guys,
I should've acted before I heard your cries.

But I thought they were right, that you were okay,
And then I watched as you were carried away.

I stood there in shock, this couldn't be real,
I didn't know what to do; I didn't know how to feel.

Why did I do that, just stand there staring?
Where was my heart? Why wasn't it caring?

Now one man's gone, your life it did steal,
And I still can't figure out how to deal.

What happened that day will always remain,
Inside, where no one can see the pain.
