Prologue

As I sat in the bleak room, surrounded by white walls, I couldn't believe I was actually there. Nurses came and went. Many asked me questions but I could never tell you what they said. Nothing was comprehended. In a matter of a year I had gone from wanting the man lying in the hospital dead to wanting to be with him until eternity. Now as he struggled for breath I couldn't hold back the fugitive tear that dripped down my cheek.

I studied his face, his strong jawline. Everything about the day we met came flooding back making everything other than his face fuzzy. The hospital walls faded away until I was standing in the middle of a track, my long honey colored hair blowing behind me...
