"Watch out for the rocks!" Kevin shouted from the rear of the canoe.
"I see'em! I see 'em!" Nick yelled back.
"Fend'em off!" Kevin spluttered as warter doused his face. "With your paddle, not your hands!"
"Now ya tell me!" Nick called.
Kevin leaned in to jam his paddle against the rocks. "Push or we'll flip!"
Nick did as he was told and the two of them finally steadied the canoe.
They got away from the rocks and drifted into open water.
"We've got to get back to the others before we lose sight of them." Kevin told Nick.
"What? I can't hear you with this helmet on." Nick answered.
Kevin made all the guys wear plastic helmets and bright orange life vests before they got in the canoes.
"Nick, you just heard me ten seconds ago!" Kevin said, making a face.
Nick ignored Kevin and rested while they drifted on the river.
After flowing through a narrow with rocks, the river grew very wide and calm.Giving up on Nick,Kevin rested."Sure is peaceful here...And quiet."
"Too quiet." Nick added.
"What do you want? Rock n' roll background music?"
"Sure, why not?" Nick said as he fingered the end of his paddle,which was split almost to the handle because he ran into so many rocks. "If I wanted quiet and birds and sky, I would tune in to those nature channels you watch!"
"If your so bored with me why didn't you just get in one of the other canoes?"
"Why?" Nick said with a pout.
"Okay, What happened?"
Nick sat up and looked down at his feet not saying a word.After what seemed like forever he spoke.
"It's not fair,Thier always together!"
Kevin rolled his eyes."Not this again."
"Yes, This again!"
"Nick, you have to get over it.Your not a kid anymore."
"Why do they treat me like one?"
"Maybe it's cause your acting like one!" Kevin said with a smirk.
"I wish I could go back in time." Nick said putting his head on Kevin's shoulder.
"And do all that work to get big? No thanks!"
"Not that far Kev."
"What you need is something to get your mind off it.
"Got any ideas?"
"Not a clue."
"Kev, tell me a story!"
"Right now?"
"Yeah!"
"I'm not just some book you can read anytime you want."
"PPPPLLLEEEAAASSSEEE?"
Just then, Kevin heard someone calling for him and Nick. He looked in the direction of the sound.It was the other guys looking for them.
"We're over here!" Kevin shouted waving his hands at the same time.
Kevin looked down to see Nick going to sleep. "Would you get up?"
"I couldn't sleep any last night.I was thinking about them."
"You can't think about them twenty-four seven."
"It's hard not to! Plus they are in my face all the time!"
AJ floated up in another canoe and placed his hand on the side of thier canoe.
"Need some help?"
Kevin smiled. "I thought you guys would never find us."
AJ and Kevin both paddled back to shore with the boats tied together.
As soon as they were back on land and tieing up the canoes, Brian ran by AJ giving him a small push."Tag,your it bone!"
Nick just watched Brian run off wishing he was in AJ's place.
