“One Last Dance”

**~Already Broken~**

She sits back in the driver’s seat, tracing her hands over the steering wheel as thoughts plagued her mind. She sniffs, feeling a warm tear caress her cheek. “Well, there it is Gen. That’s right. There is no happy ending for me. What was I expecting from him? We’re not dating, hell I didn’t even make it clear to the man where we are.” She whispers to herself, slumping back in her seat.

She blinks and recalls the scene again: that fair headed woman with her arms around Nick, kissing him and he put up no fight. Genesis knew about body language and she knew the kiss he shared with that woman was something more. Grumbling, she glances down to see her phone ring quietly. Blowing air out of her mouth in annoyance, she rolls her eyes letting her mobile phone ring quietly. “I’m not answering, so don’t bother.” She growls out quietly, gazing out of the window to her front porch, sitting in her car. She turns off the ignition and pulls the key out, stepping out of the vehicle and slowly making her way up the steps. She sniffs and slumps down on the wooden stairs, inhaling deeply the fresh evening air as the sun begins to set casting a gentle orange and yellow glow around her. She quickly wipes a hand over her cheek to catch the falling tear that trickled down her cheek. Smiling, she gazes up at the sky and closes her eyes softly. “I’ll be ok.” She whispers to herself and gets up, walking back inside to her house, locking the door behind her.

Nick races down the road and lets a sigh of relief at the sight of Genesis’s parked car in the front of her house. Quickly easing the car to a stop, he parks behind her car and rushes out of the car, leaping up the stairs to knock on the door. “Come on! Come on! Answer the door Gen.” He murmurs quietly to himself, peering through the front windows to see the lit den vacant. Sighing, he leans on the door, raking a hand through his hair. He whistles and paces around the porch hoping that Genesis would somehow open the door to find him there. Annoyed, he takes a seat on the first porch step waiting to see if she would come out. He gazes back at the window and pouts. Slapping his hands on his knees loudly, he stands up and goes down the stairs, leaning on the hood of his car. He looks up at the sky and frowns as the white wisp clouds begin to turn dark and grey, releasing a quick storm down. Sucking his teeth, Nick stands up, feeling the cold piercing drops touch his bare arms and drenching him completely. He grumbles and looks up at the sky, throwing his hands up in the air. “Wonderful! Thanks! I needed to cool down!” He yells out, seeing a small trail of black dye drip off his cheek. Cursing quietly, he smirks, “This is a complete joke. It has to be.” And he takes a quick look in the rear view window to see a small trail of black dye running down his cheek. Exhaling, he clumps up the stairs again, hoping to see if for the last time Genesis would hear him out before he drives back home.

He gulps down his guilt and presses his hands on the cold glass window of the house, peering into the lonely den. “Gen, look if you can hear me…I’m sorry. No amount of apologies can make up for it, but I thought I should try right? I should have been honest from the beginning. I’m so sorry for what you saw. It’s all a big misunderstanding. I didn’t want to give you the wrong idea, I…I…God this is hard. Look, I guess what I’m trying to say is that you’re so different from any other woman I met. And I kinda like it. Gen, I care for you and whether you chose to believe that or not it’s up to you. But look, I’m standing here telling you this to a window with rain pouring down on me. I’m completely drenched and my dye is coming out in case you didn’t know. I have blonde hair, so yeah that’s it. So now you know I look like an idiot all wet and inking.” Smiling, he gazes down at the porch ground, “Anyways, just talk to me when you can ok? I’m gonna go back home now. So…I guess I’ll see ya later at the studio tomorrow then right?” He speaks loudly, looking at the front window seeing nothing but the white lace curtains and empty den of any occupants. Sighing, he shrugs and heavily goes down the stairs, heading back to his car as Genesis peers through her room window with a smile on her face.

She quickly dashes out of her room and swings open the front door of her house just as the car was pulling away, leaving her alone once again as Nick disappears down a corner, the rain storm pouring down on her. She nibbles on her wet lips as the rain drops elude down her cheeks and nose. Smirking, she shakes her head, “I’m still mad at you Nick.”

And she heads back to the porch, heading back inside the house as the door closes behind her.

He slows the car down at the bridge and steps out in the pouring rain, making his way to the bridge railing. He smiles, looking over the railing to see the vast blue ocean fifty feet beneath him as a small trail of the black dye stains his lightly tan cheeks. “So I lose…Couldn’t even get the girl, let alone get her to speak to me.” He snorts and murmurs out sarcastically, “I’m such a ladies man. Real smooth Nick.”

He didn’t hear the soft foot steps clambering behind him as a familiar voice responds back. “Oh yeah, real smooth operator right there Carter.”

Nick’s gaze remains unfazed, still staring at the ocean below him. “Thanks for agreeing A.J.”

“No prob man.” A.J. smirks, holding an umbrella over the taller man. “Thought you might need company.”

Nick snorts, “How’d ya find me here?”

“Ahhh, dude I’ve known you for years, we’re like family. I know you always go to where ever water is and I figured where’s the closest place to check out the water? And tada! I found ya!” He grins, glancing over at his troubled friend as he straightens up and frowns.

Nick sighs and glances down sadly at the ocean. “What a cookie for that?”

A.J. held his tongue before he could retort a sarcastic remark at his friend. “Well the dye is leaving, hehe.”

Nick snorts, “No kidding. Black I guess wasn’t my thing: seem to only bring my bad luck.”

Patting Nick’s shoulder, he gazes at him hoping Nick would talk about what’s going on. “So you gonna tell me or just stand around and pout?”

Nick smirks, glancing at A.J. for a second before looking at the cement ground. “Standing around pouting doesn’t seem so bad.”

A.J. smiles, “That and it’s not really manly to be doing that.”

“Please like you know how to be a man.” Nick jokes, glad for the sudden distraction.

A.J. snorts, before turning serious, gazing at Nick for a moment. “Actually I do. See a man takes on responsibilities for his mistakes and goes out of his way to fix it. So whatever you did, I think you need to fix it up.”

“Been there, tried that and failed.” Nick grumbles, shivering from his soaked clothes.

“Well try again. Never hurts to try right?” A.J. raises his eyebrows tugging Nick’s arm to head back to the car.

Nick shakes his head, “I guess.” And both of them walk back to their vehicles.

“The party is over by the way. Farah is still hanging around with the baby.” A.J. closes his umbrella, boarding the SUV.

Nick snorts, “Whoa what? Why is she still hanging around if the party is over?”

A.J. slides into the driver’s seat of the SUV as he raises his eyebrows and honks the horn.

Nick sighs and slides into the driver’s seat of the rented ford focus, dripping wet as his clothes cling to his skin. He looks up as A.J. passes him in the other car, honking his horn yelling something out about “See you over there.” Nick sighs, slumping back in the seat he follows behind A.J. reluctantly, starting up his car and driving slowly away from the scenery.

“Look what’s going on with you?” Nadia prodded her friend, taking a seat on the edge of her bed.

Genesis looks over at Nadia, sighing. “Nothing. Don’t worry about it.”

“This nothing is pissing me off. Talk to me. I know something went down with you and Nick today at the party.”

“Did he tell you?” Genesis sits cross-legged on the floor.

Nadia nods, “Yeah.”

“Well then you know what’s wrong with me.” Genesis mumbles, playing with a strand of her hair.

Nadia snorts, shaking her head, “Angel, I talked with him about it.”

“So?”

“And I think it’s a big misunderstanding what you saw.”

“Ha! Whatever, actions talk more than words ever can.” Genesis trails her fingers through her hair gently.

“Gen when will you stop fronting and just admit you got a thing for him?” Nadia raises her eyebrows, watching her roll her eyes.

“Cause I don’t know what I want with him. That’s why. Part of me wants to believe that he’ll always be around but let’s real Dee, he’s leaving in a few days and that will it. I won’t ever see him again and we’ll have a separate live from then on.” Genesis whispers out painfully.

“Ohhh Angel. Don’t say that. You don’t know what will happen in a matter of hours. You didn’t think you’d fall for him so fast in a matter of a week let alone a day, so it’s a little strain for you. But Gen, he’s the one. I can see it. Don’t let him walk away without knowing what you want from him. Sure he screwed up, he’s not perfect, hell if he saw what you did he’d be in shock too.” She pauses to see Genesis break into a laugh, brushing back a lock of hair.

“But really Gen. Just talk with the man already. If he calls later today, pick up the phone and answer it k?” Nadia whispers, standing up and rushing over to the bathroom.

Once the door closes, Genesis blurts out, “Nadia you know he’s a blonde right?”

Nadia stops mid-way from yanking her top off in the bathroom and opens the door a crack with a smirk on her face. “Really? He’s a blondie?”

Genesis smiles, “Yeah why?”

“Oh nothing. Guess that explains a lot then.”

Genesis laughs and tosses a pillow at her friend, “Shut it.”

“Behave.” Nadia giggles out, her eyes the only thing visible from the crack. “And Gen…”

“Yes?”

“Talk to blondie will ya? Cause if I have to see you grumble and pout over a guy again, I’ll move out and you’ll have to find a new room mate.” She snickers, closing the door in time to miss the pillow hurling at her direction.

Genesis laughs and gets up from the floor, throwing herself on her back on her bed, gazing up at the ceiling when the soft humming of her mobile phone goes off, scattering her lost thoughts. Sitting up, she reaches over and sees the caller ID. “Nick. What a surprise.” She smirks, picking it up, taking a deep breath as she places the flip phone to her ear.
