“One Last Dance”

**~Walking On Water~**

She hums gently enjoying the cool shower water rushing down her hair and back. Singing softly to herself, she runs her fingers through her wet hair quickly washing it. Stepping out of the shower with ease, she turns off the shower faucet, reaching for a towel she left on the sink. Smirking, she sees the towel was taken off and thrown on the sofa in the den.

“Really funny Dee. I’m so laughing.” Genesis smirks, shivering from the wet drops sliding down her legs. Dripping wet, she pats across the white lucid tiles while the water drops splash the tiles. Exiting the bathroom door, she smirks and inches her way to the towel draped on the sofa. Reaching her hands out to grab the cotton material, she hears a male gasp coming from behind her.

In her shock, she grabs the towel, forgetting to wrap it around her nude body when she turns to see Kevin staring at her. “Uhhh, Uhhhh…hehe. Hi.” She whispers out, realizing she was still exposed and quickly wraps the towel around her, tying and tucking the edges of the towel tightly around her.

Kevin smirks, glancing down at the planks: “Uh yeah…ummm hi Angel. I was just talking with Nadia about the whole thing with the dance performance. I see you didn’t know you had company.” He smiles, glancing back at her.

“Yeah well, if my towel didn’t have legs, I wouldn’t be in this position right now.” She whispers, feeling her cheeks blush a deep red.

“That’s ok. I won’t say anything about this.”

“Thank God. I’m kinda mortified about this whole thing.” She smirks, gulping lightly, pushing a strand of sticky wet hair behind her ear.

Kevin grins: his emerald eyes sparkling under the glow of the gentle morning sunlight beaming through the window. “Ahhh don’t be. It’s ok.”

“What’s ok?” Nadia comes to den, smirking at Genesis in her towel. “Ohhhh… hehe. Sorry Gen, the towel was wet and I thought of putting it on the sofa so it would dry up. But I guess I didn’t know you were using that particular towel.”

“This is why I should have used the bathroom in our room.” Genesis crosses her arms across her chest.

“Well sorry that I had to clean that bathroom: you little ungrateful ragamuffin.” Nadia grins, the smile spanning across her deeply tan cheeks.

Genesis clears her throat, “Yes, well if you both excuse me now. I have to go change.”

“Yes, like putting on clothes. The nerve of you walking around here naked when company is here: you little flashing maniac.” Nadia giggles, watching Genesis snort and brush pass her.

“Anyway…Mind Gen, she doesn’t take embarrassment too well.” Nadia giggles, handing Kevin a sheet of paper. “Alright. Well here are the instructions to filling out the form. The office address is located on the top sheet of the form. If you head out now, you’ll reach the place in about a good thirty minutes or so but of course you gotta head out with Gen.”

“Can’t I go alone? Why does she head out with me if I’m the one with that needs to sign the sheet?”

“Cause she’s your ‘partner’ in the dance performance, both applicants have to be present and stuff. It’s a pain I know, but trust me this ridiculous new rule was just added on to make it harder for people.” Nadia shrugs, brushing her fingers down her long curly ponytail. “Anyways, I’ll go tell Gen about it, she can head out with you. The faster this is done, the better chances you guys stand in being in the performance for sure.”

“Right…I guess.” Kevin slumps into the sofa as his cell phone goes off. Picking it up, he answers: “Hello?”

“Hey Kev, great you picked up!” A.J. grins, watching Howie and Brian playfully argue about the cue pool stick.

“Oh yeah, hey. What’s up?” Kevin breathes out, leaning back in the sofa, the quietness in Genesis’s house seemed eerie to him.

“Oh just hanging, I was gonna ask you if Nick was with you.” A.J. yawns as Brian hoots, shooting a pool ball into a hole.

“Yeah! In your face A.J. I got that point!” Brian shouts out laughing as Howie snickers, taking his turn leaning down and placing the pool stick in his hands.

“I thought Nick was with you? I’m at Genesis’s place at the moment with her roommate as well. I’m gonna fill out some stuff so Nicky boy can be in the competition.” Kevin nibbles on his lip, rubbing his index finger across his lower lip.

“Oh ok. Well he ain’t with us either. I just thought he was with you.” A.J. mumbles, smirking as the pool ball hit passes the corner hole.

“Na. Is that all you called for?” Kevin smirks, sitting up in the couch as Nadia passes by him heading to the kitchen.

“Yeah. Why?” A.J. smirks.

“You’re an idiot Alex.” Kevin laughs, saying bye, hanging up the phone.

A.J. snickers, placing his phone away. “Dude is so weird, B you owe me money for that bet. Smack it in my hands.” He grins while Brian smirks, digging through his pockets to pull out a twenty handing it to him.

“That was as easy bet. I’ll go broke listening to you.” Brian snickers as A.J. chuckles, holding the twenty in the corners with both his hands, flicking it.

“Yeah, you should start listening to me more often, I’ll be living a nice life with your money.” A.J. strolls past him, laughing quietly.

Howie looks over at Brian, shaking his head in disappointment: “You should have known better. You know he’s always up for anything.”

“Yeah I know. I just had hope Kevin would have proved me wrong.” Brian snickers, watching A.J. take his turn, shooting a red ball into the corner pocket, jumping around hollering:

“Brian, think I can win this game?” A.J. grins, raises his eyebrows playfully.

Brian glances over at Howie: “I gotta prove him wrong D.”

“You’ve been warned Brian.” Howie smirks as Brian nods at A.J.

“You’re on.” Brian grins over at A.J.

A.J. chuckles rubbing his hands together: “Excellent.”

Nick whistles, jogging down a forested vacant road. He places the headphones on, listening to a rock song to heed him on down the road. His dark blue plastic workout pants crinkle as he runs steadily, enjoying the cool breeze that flutters past him. He jogs to the beat of the song “One Step Closer.” His black wife beater clings to him in damp sweat, the tiny sweat drops breaking out from his recent run down the road.

He smiles, picking up speed as he closes his eyes for a moment to avoid a dust particle from flying into his eyes. As he does that, he doesn’t see a rather round stone before him, causing him to trip and skid on the hard ground chest first. Wincing, he sits up, gripping his ankle in pain. “Damn no.” He grumbles out, touching his swelling ankle. “Please just let it be sprang. I can’t be breaking anything…not now.” Nick runs a hand over his wounded ankle as he tries to stand up.

“Ahhhh…owww.” He limps over to a large boulder, gazing at his right ankle. “This is so nice. Way a go Nick, now I can’t freakin’ dance let alone walk.” He murmurs out to himself, fetching his cell phone from his waist.

He sighs, calling Howie: knowing that man always had the phone on all day. He leans back on the rock, watching the bright blue sky glimmer above him in the beautiful sunlight.

Howie chokes down his drink from A.J.’s little antics in harassing Brian. “Awww, Alex, leave him alone. He didn’t know.”

“Dude, that’s the second time I got money from him. If he keeps making bets he’ll go flat out broke.” A.J. teases, sitting back in the bar stool of the billiard place they were in.

“Ohhhh, my phone.” Howie sees his phone blinking, letting out a soft medley. Answering it, he places the phone to his ear: “Hey, sup Nick?”

“Yeah, D. Listen to me, I kinda have a little problem.”

“What’s that?” He looks up to see A.J. smirking mouthing out ‘Nick got booty.’

Howie smirks, listening to Nick: “Oh what man? We’ve been looking for you, I thought you left with Kevin.”

“Na, I went jogging while he went to get a form, but that’s not the issue. I’m stuck on the side of the road, sitting up on a rock. Can you come pick me up?”

Howie snorts: “What? Nick if you walked there, you can walk right back cause you’re that far off right?”

“I think I sprang my ankle, it hurts like hell if I try standing on it too much.”

Howie exhales deeply: “Ok wait… you’re not walking on it right?”

“Na, I can’t even if I wanted to.” Nick sighs out sadly.

“I’m sure it’s not broken, but how did that happen anyway?” Howie gazes at A.J. who seemed to take interest in the conversation on the phone.

“Don’t know really. I was just jogging as usual and I closed my eyes for a second, then the next thing I know I’m skidding on my chest as my ankle breaks my fall.”

“Owch.” Howie whispers.

“More than owch…damn, this isn’t good. I mean I can’t be like this. The competition is coming up in three days and what am I gonna do?!” Nick yells out apprehensively.

“Easy man. Look, I’m gonna go pick you up now and we’ll head to the doctor. I’m sure it’s not a big deal. A little fall couldn’t have broken your ankle.” Howie calmly states as A.J.’s mouth drop open, shaking his head.

Brian stands next to Howie, his ears perked at the conversation as well, taking a seat besides them.

“It better not. Anyways…I’m somewhere down the beach side of the road.”

“Nick, what road?”

“A road…I don’t know…It looks like a road with the black stuff on it and little signs.” Nick mumbles out annoyed.

Howie grumbles, knowing Nick wasn’t being sarcastic at all which made hard to get upset with the man, “You have to know what road you’re on, other wise I can’t get you.”

“Dude aight…deep breaths.” Nick smirks, looking down the road across from him to find a scrawny road sign. Limping over to it slowly, he nods: “I’m off Milton Avenue near exit 53, standing roadside.”

“Aight. I’ll be shortly. And Nick, don’t move.”

“Fine, fine. It’s not like I can anyway.” Nick grumbles, making his way back to the boulder to sit and wait.

Howie smiles: “K, I’ll see you then.” And he hangs up the phone shaking his head.

“What an idiot man.” A.J. smirks, sitting back in the stool.

“Aww, don’t say that. You love the knuckle head.” Brian turns around in the bar stool smiling.

“Maybe so but thank God we’re not blood related.” A.J. snickers, taking a sip of his soda can as Howie gets up snickering.

“Aight guys. I’m gonna get Nick, so that’s it for game time.” Howie gets up as A.J. snorts.

“You lucky Nicky called you before I kicked both of your…” A.J. was beginning to say as Howie intercepted him:

“And you need to stop bragging cause if Kevin was here, he would have won and you’re behind would be flat broke.” Howie chuckles, leading the men to the rented ford focus.

Genesis stands at the threshold of the bedroom door, staring at Nadia:

“I don’t know about all this. I haven’t spoken to Kevin that much and there’s that little uncomfortable feeling between us still.”

“Which is why now would be the best time to be open and talk with the man. Besides he’s here with good intentions to help you out.” Nadia throws a pile of clothes on the floor as Genesis narrows her eyes. Nadia grins, “I’m gonna clean it up, relax.”

“Fine. But…I don’t know. It’s just gonna be weird that’s all.” Genesis mumbles, twirling a strand of her dark medium brown locks with her fingers.

“Don’t worry about it. It’s not like you guys will get in a fight on the way there. Just get him to the dance office, sign the form and drop him off back here so he can go back home. Nothing to it Gen.”

Genesis smiles, nodding her head: “I guess it’s not that bad. I mean what happened with us was so long ago anyway.”

“There we go. That’s what I wanted to here. Now go out there and be a good friend to the guy.” Nadia smirks, pushing her room mate out of the door.

Genesis laughs, reaching the den as she waves: “Hey Kevin. Thanks so much for wanting to help out. This means a lot to the both of us, especially me.”

“Yeah well no problem, your welcome. I know you’ve been training Nick and he’s so excited about all this that I didn’t want to destroy his only drive. So ummm…yeah. We each can take our car or what?”

“You can ride with Gen. It’ll be easier plus with the traffic at this time, you’ll never be able to see other or catch up.” Nadia quickly responds, shoving Genesis gently towards the man.

Genesis fakes a grin, glaring back at Nadia, clearing her throat: “Right…umm…yeah. We’ll go together and I’ll just drop you off back here when we’re done.”

Kevin nods, “Sounds good then. Let’s go.”

“Aight. See ya Dee.” Genesis opens the front door, stepping out with Kevin following her.

Nadia grins, giggling: “Aight, see ya later guys. Bye.”

“Bye.” Kevin waves as Nadia closes the door.

“Mind Dee, the doctor told her she’s missing a few normal brain cells.” Genesis jokes, reaching her car as Kevin follows behind. She quickly unlocks the driver’s side, opening the passenger side for Kevin.

Kevin slides into the seat, thanking her gently as he closes the door behind him. They both buckle their seat belts as Genesis turns on the ignition, pulling the shift to drive. “Soooo…how is everything Kevin?” She decided to break the odd silence between them two as she pulls away from the house, driving down a lane.

“Oh just fine.” He whispers, leaning back in the seat: his eyes locked on the side window.

“Ohhh. Ok. Well that’s good to hear.”

“Yeah.” He mutters out, drumming his fingers on his jean covered knees.

Genesis gulps, turning on the radio to a classic radio station. Softly, Whitney Houston’s “Saving All My Love For You” blasts out of the radio as Kevin exhales glancing around the car.

Genesis glances at him quickly then focuses back on the road, her hands grip the steering wheel tightly as she sees through the corner of her eyes, Kevin gazing at the backseat curiously.

Genesis sighs, gently singing out the lyrics, smirking at the concept of the love song:

-“ You used to tell me we'd run away together
Love gives you the right to be free
You said be patient just wait a little longer
But that's just an old fantasy.”
I've got to get ready just a few minutes more
Gonna get that old feeling when you walk through that door
'Cause tonight is the night for I feeling all right
We'll be making love the whole night through
So I'm saving all my love for you
Yes I'm saving all my love
Yes I'm saving all my love for you.”
Kevin reaches out his hand to the backseat to pull on a familiar object. Genesis glances at him to see him holding a silver platinum chain with a Cross diamond shaped emblem that belongs to Nick. “That’s strange…” She sees him whisper out as he gazes at the chain in his hands.
“Oh that must have been there for a while.” She gulps, feeling her cheeks tinge a soft red.
“Oh really? This is Nick’s. I thought he lost it. But it’s in your backseat, which is kinda strange since he never takes that chain since he claims it cost him almost all his saving’s account to get it.” Kevin smiles gently, twirling the chain in his hands.
“Wow, he spend that much on it. Lucky it was safe back there.” She whispers, turning up the volume on the radio.
“Yeah…Gen it’s ok. I know about you and Nick. He told me.” He breaths out, gently gazing at her, safely tucking the chain away in his pocket.
“And you’re ok with it?” Genesis murmurs.

“Well yeah why not? He’s my buddy and I see that he really cares about you. You make him happy.” Kevin states: gazing out to the front window.

Genesis smiles: “Thanks.”
“I’m not mad at you Gen for what happened with us.” Kevin whispers, gazing at her.
“You’re, you’re not?” Genesis whispers, turning down another street.

“No…I just want to know what happened to us that resulted in that.” He whispers out.

“I…I was…I wasn’t ready to be in a committed relationship and I know you deserved someone better than me who would commit like you were to me.” She states, feeling guilt wash over her.

“Ohhh…why did you think that?”

“Cause…Kevin, isn’t it obvious? I still had and still do have a lot of growing up to do. I’m still trying to find myself, figure out what I want in my life. While you were ready and passed that part of your life. Besides I didn’t want to be a burden to you.” Genesis tries to explain nicely hoping she could just avoid the whole topic completely.

“Who says I have it all together. I can fake looking like I have things together, placed right…but that was never the case. Maybe I was looking for something else.”

“Maybe…” Genesis whispers, dreading this car trip now more than ever. ‘Nadia will die tonight.’ She thinks to herself, grinning.

“And what happened with us…I mean the morning I woke up and you had left and then with the news about well, you know the pregnancy. I was worried.” Kevin leans his arm on the side door, his thoughts swirling madly around him.

“That was a stupid thing I did and I’m sorry about that. I don’t know what I was thinking. I just thought that if I claim that, you wouldn’t want to be a part of my life. The call a guy saying he was my boyfriend was really my cousin. He thought we shouldn’t be together and tried to break us apart. Guess he didn’t think rumors wouldn’t get started like that. And I was scared…I was late that month and I didn’t want you to think I was holding you back.” Genesis explains the story to him, relieved that it was all out in the open. She hated to have to admit that all to him.

“Well it’s in the past and that’s where we’re gonna leave it at.” Kevin touches the side glass window, gazing at the passing buildings.

“Good. Ok.” She smiles, pulling up to a grey structured building. She finds the parking lot around the building, quickly finding a spot and pulling into it. Turning off the ignition, she sighs, glancing over at Kevin. “Alright, well here we are.”

“Yeah.” Kevin murmurs, pulling on the car door to open it.

Genesis exhales gently, feeling the tension in the car thicken and she needed to get out for fresh air. Exiting the vehicle, she walks behind Kevin as they reach the main entrance of the office building. Kevin, a few inches ahead of her: stops suddenly and gently grabs Genesis’s arm.

She gulps, looking up at him as she breaks into a weak smile: “Ummm…hey, what is it?”

“Nothing really. Just that…don’t break my friend’s heart. Whether he told you or not, he cares for you. He fell for you…fast. I just want to make sure you won’t run out on him when he needs you the most.” He states, his light emerald orbs cutting in her, penetrating her with each word.

“I, I know he does. And I wouldn’t do that to him.” She softly states, pulling her arm away from his grasp.

“Just making sure.”

“No problem. He means a lot to me as well.” She responds, walking pass him to the glass sliding doors.

The main receptionist gazes up wearily at the approaching couple, placing the cradle of the phone down. “Welcome to Fenway Dancing Company, how can I help you? The middle age dark haired woman asks, busily typing away at the keyboard.

“Yes, hi good morning. I’m Genesis Martinez, one of the contestants to this Saturday’s program. I’m here ‘cause I heard there was a little problem with my partner being involved in it.”

“Oh yes…yes. Hold on. A new regulation was set up but was never put in effect until recently. I’m terribly sorry for the trouble it must have cost you with the dancing partner you have. But as you see, your partner has to have had a professional background in dancing and training before he can take his position as your partner.” The receptionist babbles on as if reading from a manual all the rules.

Kevin rolls his eyes, smirking, gazing at a list of papers and forms piled on the black metallic counter.

“I understand that ma’am. I managed to find a man who does have the background last minute who knows the dance. I want to be able to put him in the competition.” Genesis states nervously, hoping the plan wouldn’t backfire at any moment.

The rather chubby receptionist gazes at her curiously, typing something on the flat computer screen. “Very well. I’ll need to see his information and variation of I.D. so we can continue this.”

Genesis looks over at Kevin as he raises his dark eyebrows, searching through his wallet pulling out two forms of identification and pulling out a manila folder from inside his black suede jacket.

“Everything you need is right there in the folder.” Kevin smiles at the receptionist who giggles and gazes at him gently. He hands her the folder as she gladly take it, opening it up and placing the data into the computer.

“So Kevin huh? You have amazing eyes sir.” The receptionist gazes up at him, licking her lips slowly.

“Thanks.” He smirks, seeing Genesis roll her eyes: taking a seat in the waiting room.

“You can have a seat sir. We’ll call you in shortly.” The receptionist indicts to the waiting room.

“Thanks.” He muses, going over to Genesis. “So that went well.”

“Sure did. I’m surprised she didn’t ask for your number lover boy.”

Kevin snorts: “I’m not that smooth. Besides I already have a special lady in my life.”

“That Kristin girl right?” Genesis leans back in the hard plastic seat.

He nods, a grin sliding on his handsome face: “Yeah. God, she’s so great.”

“I bet. Glad you found someone though.”

Kevin gazes at her, “The same to you.” He leans back in the seat, clasping his hands together across his chest: “Hope they don’t keep us waiting for too long.”

Genesis smirks: “Please, like you got any where to go.”

Kevin sits up, smiling: “Hey I do have a life. Plus my friends staying at my house unsupervised is asking for trouble.”

“True. Though on your account, I’m sure they’ll behave.” Genesis smiles, exhaling out, glad to see that they were on speaking terms again like the old days.

Howie drives down another lane as A.J. and Brian peer their heads out of the car windows.

“Anything?” Howie asks, turning down another lane.

“Nope, nothing but the dirt man. You sure Nick said the right road? The kid doesn’t know his left from his right at times.” A.J. smirks, leaning back in the passenger seat.

Brian chuckles: looking around when he sees a growing figure ahead of them on the side of the road. “Guys, that’s him. I see him.” He points out the window to his left.

Howie slows down the car in front of Nick who seemed annoyed and bothered.

“Yay! Dude we found ya! Get in!” A.J. grins, peering out the car window.

“Easy for you to say. I can barely walk now.” Nick winces, balancing his weight on his other foot, limping towards the backseat.

Brian opens the backdoor and Nick quickly boards in, closing the door behind him.

“Aight, let’s see the ankle man.” Brian gazes at him as Nick sighs, rolling up the left side of his plastic workout pants.
Sighing, he looks at Brian: “So what do you think? Does it look bad?” Nick gulps, feeling the boring of the men on him.

“Gee Nicky boy, what do you think?” A.J. tugs on the of his baseball hat, smirking at him.

“Hoping not bad.” Nick blurts out.

“Keep hoping, you’re gonna be off that ankle for a while.” Brian sighs, giving Nick a comforting glance. “But I’m sure something will come up for the dance thing. Maybe her old partner or someone from her dance group will offer to fill in for you.”

“Or Kevin can.” Howie steers the car down the road, taking off with them.

“Maybe, or maybe I can do the performance.” Nick whispers to himself, slumping back in the seat. “So guys we heading home?”

“Nope, taking you to the doctor to get that ankle looked at.” Howie glances back at his friend.

“Aight…whatever. I can’t stand doctors.” Nick grumbles.

“Well you better start liking them, they’re gonna get your ankle as good as new.” Brian smirks, looking out the window.

“Well yay. Sounds like fun then.” Nick grumbles, closing his eyes as he could only imagine what Genesis’s response will be to this.
