Epilogue

The wedding had been a beautiful one. It had been almost a year since Jenn and Brian had
been rescued and everyone was gathered at a local church, where they had just witnessed Lori
and AJ getting married. No one had ever thought this day would come.

But it had, and everyone, for a change, was happy.

The wedding reception was now going on, and what a party that was. Music was at full swing as
Sara and Brian danced to the music.

One would never have imagined that just barely a year ago, many believed that Brian Littrell
would never walk again.

Once Brian had begun breathing on his own that fateful day, he was awake in no time. Though,
when he opened those blue eyes to find his wife watching him, he had no desire to tell her that
he couldn’t feel anything in his legs.

He was a strong person, and he showed that everyday. With Sara by his side, he strived to
prove all the doctors wrong. When he had regained consciousness, the doctors had told him
the bullet to his back could cause him to never walk again, he was paralyzed.

Brian wouldn’t accept that. His soon to be born child would have a daddy that could do anything
they wanted.

Physical therapy was one of the hardest things to go through, but finding out that he and Sara
were about to welcome a little girl into their world just pushed him harder. His little girl was
going to have the best daddy if he had anything to say about it. Proving the doctors wrong, two
months after the shooting, he was taking steps on his own. Everyone was so proud of him.
Sure, he was still plagued with nightmares almost every night, and sometimes, he felt cheated
out of things he had missed, but he would never let these things get to him. He had everything
now.

A few months later brought the birth of their daughter, Emily Grace Littrell. The little girl brought
so much light to their lives. They both could see how Nicole had helped Nick and Jenn so much
in the prior year. Without Emily in their lives, they would have been lost.

Jenn and Nick were swaying with the music as well; both of them feeling utterly happy after they
had just watched two of their best friends get married.

A year ago, everything seemed so lost. Now, nothing was going to tear them apart again, ever.

Jenn and Nick had been able to go home about 2 weeks after they were admitted. For the first
time in a long time, they were going home as a family. Nick had sold the old house, too many bad
memories. Jenn was very surprised when they arrived at a beautiful new home. Although her
memory had never fully come back to her, she remembered all that was important, her family.

Nick was fairing quite well, he had to take it easy for him to receive a full recovery. Howie had
been so kind as to stay with them for a few weeks since neither of them was in any condition to
be alone with a child. It would be in no time, though, they were both near fully recovered.
Physically, at least. Jenn was plagued with the same nightmares Brian experienced.

All too soon , Jenn was having the baby. She and Nick welcomed a healthy baby boy, Zachary
Brian Carter. They both felt it fitting that Brian’s name be placed in the there due to all the help
that he had given Jenn. Brian had been truly touched.

A clinking of a glass could be heard as the room quieted down. “Can I have everyone’s
attention, please?” AJ’s best man, Howie stated. When everyone was quiet, he continued.
“Who would have ever thought I’d be speaking at AJ’s wedding one day, I for one never thought
so.” That was followed by a few chuckles. “On a more serious note, I am really proud of AJ. He
has found his soul mate, and they are truly one of the best couples I have ever seen. So I would
like to raise my glass to him, and toast for a happy trouble free future.” With that everyone
clinked their glasses and the reception continued.

Sara smiled at Brian, who stood beside her, his arm wrapped around her waist. “Ya alright?” She
asked quietly, not wanting to attract unwanted attention from Kevin, who still worried about his
cousin.

“Yes I am, baby. I’m with you.” He shot a goofy grin her way. She stopped for a moment, thinking
of a time when she knew she’d never see that face again. How could she have doubted him? He
promised her forever and he intended to keep it.

“Cheese ball!” His comment had caused that laugh. That laugh that Brian knew belonged only to
him. He smiled, proud in the fact that it was he who had won this amazing woman’s heart. “Here,
let’s go sit for a bit, and find our daughter.” Sara scanned the room to find Emily laid out in Kevin’
s arms.

“He must’ve started talking to her. She learns so quickly, Sar.” Brian smirked, as his wife helped
him across the dance floor. He was still going through therapy and sometimes, his legs just got
tired. “HEY! Get a ROOOOOM!”

Brian laughed his best friend raised his face from where his lips were placing gentle kisses on
Jenn’s neck.

“Baby, you look like a deer in headlights.” Jenn smiled at Nick and brought his lips down to meet
hers.

“You like deer.” He kissed her back and she could feel him smiling against her lips. Her mind
couldn’t help but wander to those months that she was without him. How did she make it? He
was her everything now and she was sure she had never loved him like this before.

“Any deer that can kiss me like you, yeah, I love deer.” Jenn smiled now as Nick pressed his
forehead to hers. He watched as the bright sun reflected in the deep brown of her eyes and he
found himself lost in them once again. She absolutely captivated him and, man, the kids that she
had given him. Those beautiful children…

A shrill scream of laughter seemed to interrupt his thoughts at the appropriate time. Nicole, who
had apparently been dancing or, toddling around, with the groom was now being spun by her
captor. Nick and Jenn’s eyes lingered to the other side of AJ, where Lori was cradling Zach in
her arms, lightly rocking him to the light music.

“They’ll make a beautiful family someday.” Jenn spoke as she watched, feeling Nick wrap his
arms around her from behind.

“Not as beautiful as ours.” He whispered.

Suddenly, a piercing scream and the shatter of glass seemed to throw the whole ceremony into
an incredible halt. The look of fright of Brian’s face and the way he took off towards the house
could only signal one thing.

The noise had come from his wife. In no time, AJ, Nick, and Kevin had followed Brian as Jenn
and Lori stayed with the children. The rest of the guests watched, trying to figure out what was
going on.

Brian was first to enter the house. Sara had gone into AJ’s house to pour a glass of water to mix
with Emily’s formula but, something had stopped her from returning.

The guys found her, sitting at the kitchen table, staring in the direction of the kitchen, shattered
glass around her feet.

“Sweetheart, what is it?” Brian knelt, shakily taking her hand. Kevin helped his cousin as Howie
and AJ tried to sort out what had happened.

But Sara’s shaking finger that pointed towards the small TV in the corner of the kitchen
answered everything.

“The breaking news of the hour….armed and dangerous….escaped from prison….”

None of them expected what was said next.

“Rick Cartier and Kara Pitrelli.”
