Chapter 14

Rick’s grip was released on Brian and the Backstreet Boy took a step back to catch his
breath.

“Oh my God! What’d you do to her?” Brian gasped, hunching over in attempt to gain more
oxygen.

“Hush darling.” Kara came over to rub his back in a soothing way.

He quickly jerked away and from the foreign touch and stood just short of where Jenn
quivered on the floor. A feeling of panic rose in his throat and he had to fight to keep it
from attacking him.

His blue eyes shut out the world, remembering Jenn’s voice.

“One night, Brian, one night you…you had these…convulsions. And it scared me…so
badly. I thought I was going to lose you. I didn’t want to lose you Bri, I DON’T want to lose
you. Don’t leave. Please don’t leave.” She cried.

It had been a night when neither of them could sleep. One night right after the incident.
Sometime when their therapist said it would be good to talk about it. Brian had felt so bad
for scaring her.

“I wasn’t going to leave. I can’t lose you either.” He whispered the words now, standing
there, just as he had the night when Jenn had told him.

“Bribear…”

Damn, here comes that bitch. Brian thought to himself, fidgeting with his hands as he tried
to sort out the things that were drowning his brain.

“Stop it! Stop…calling me..that…” The man stepped over Nick and pushed Rick’s kneeling
form away from Jenn. “Jenn, sweetheart? Can you hear me?”

His heart sunk as her blue eyes reached his, void of any emotion, any life.

“Jenn…” Nick’s raspy voice sounded from the floor behind Brian and his head snapped to
look behind him. Nick’s eyes found Brian’s. They were wet with fresh tears and the older
man saw that his best friend was struggling to bring a hand out to his wife. Swallowing,
Brian took Nick’s hand and connected it with Jenn’s, who had seemed to calm a bit. But
her eyes were drooping closed again.

“No, hang on girl. Please hang on.” The Kentuckian pleaded.

Her eyes gave him one last look. A look of hope. For a moment, Brian almost believed she
was going to grant him his request. Then, Jenn closed them again and they didn’t snap
back open. She had fallen back into the world of darkness.

“Damn it.” Brian cussed, realizing that Nick was just staring at his wife, oblivious to his
surroundings. Therefore, he was no help to Brian.

AJ concerned him as well. The tattooed man hadn’t even flinched since he had been
knocked out. Suddenly, Brian was overwhelmed with a sense of loneliness. His thoughts
were occasionally broken with the loud roars of people celebrating the new year and
fireworks lighting up the dim setting of the bus, casting a shadow on the drawn figures of
the people he loved.

But there was one person that was no where to be found. The one he should’ve noticed
the most.

“Where the hell is Sara, you sick bastard?!” Brian was back on his feet in no time, a rush of
adrenaline shooting through his veins.

“You don’t talk to me like that, you fag!” Rick pushed him down with one hard push,
connecting Brian’s head with the hard floor.

His vision was blurred when he stood and noticed Kara taking off in one direction. The
direction of the bedrooms in the back of the bus. He dizzily took off behind her.

The small privacy door was closed to the bedroom.

“SARA!” Brian took his fists and weakly beat on the door. It was his responsibility, as a
husband and best friend, to take care of the woman that was being held inside that room.
Inside the room with…that fucking bitch.

“Bri…Bri, I…I’m alright.”

She was being forced to say it. He could tell by the quiver in her voice. The voice that was
usually so confident, was definitely lying to him now.

“No you’re not!” He cried.

That’s when he heard her gagging. Worse than he had ever heard her before when she
was sick. Or any other time.

A crash would silence all noise withheld inside the room.

Brian slid down against the wall with tears streaming down his tired face. It was his turn to
surrender.

If he could only figure out how.
--------------------------

Staring into the room, Kevin could hardly believe his eyes. A bottle of champagne lay on
it's side, contents spilled all across the floor. Glass, shattered in the center of the room.
But it was the blood on the floor that caused Kevin's stomach to turn.

Repressing the urge to vomit, he slowly backed out of the room. Backing up against the
wall, he put his hands up to his mouth and let out a sob.

"Oh god, this can't be happening!" He scanned the hallway and found it empty. He fumbled
in his pocket for his cell phone. As he pulled it out he noticed how bad his hands were
shaking.

Kevin slid down to the floor as he placed a phone call to his bodyguard. He was hardly able
to get a word out as he told the man on the other line the situation. When Kevin hung up
his phone, he just stared ahead at the door to Nick and Jenn's room

Moments later a disheveled looking Howie came stumbling out of his room, cell phone in
hand. "Please tell me this isn’t true!" Howie begged the older man in front of him. When
Kevin didn't answer him and just continued to stare at the door, Howie decided to check
the damage himself.

Once Howie walked into the room dread filled him. Much like Kevin, the sight of blood
turned his stomach, but Howie wasn’t as lucky. He fell to his knees just outside of the
doorway, and emptied the contents of his stomach in the hallway.

Once the security team showed up, they lead Kevin and Howie to a safe room. Both of
them were still in states of shock over the situation, neither of them really wanting to
believe that this all was happening again.

-------------

“Here is everything that they sent us.” Kevin said dejectedly as he handed the FBI agent
all the letters they had received from Kara and Rick.

It was the day after they went missing, and Kevin and Howie had been asked to come to
the police station for some questions.

“Thank you Mr. Richardson, but I still don’t understand why you all thought you could
handle these psychos by yourselves.” Agent Henderson said as he took a seat behind the
desk.

“We were stupid, now I wish we had. Maybe they…they would…still be…with…” Howie
couldn’t even finish his sentence before he nearly broke down. Kevin quickly placed his
hand on the younger mans back to try to give him some comfort.

“Well, we don’t have the ability to change anything now. So now we need to do our best to
catch them. So the missing include, Brian and Sara Littrell, Nick and Jennifer Carter, and
Alexander Mclean.”

“Yes Sir, that’s all of them.” Kevin replied.

Agent Henderson took in a deep breath before he continued. “The results are back on the
analysis of the champagne and blood samples that were taken from the scene. We found
traces of a strong sedative in the champagne, which was so strong that merely seconds
after consumption, whoever drank it would be rendered unconscious. Now, the majority of
the blood it seems to have come from Mr. Carter. The CSI members determined that he hit
his head on the corner of the dresser as he fell to the floor.”

Kevin and Howie were both in total shock over this news. Just the fact that Rick and Kara
had planned this out so much, was almost too much for the duo to handle.

“The rest of the blood came from Mrs. Carter. After analyzing the glass shards that were
also on the floor we believe that landing on the broken glass is what caused her injuries.
We also found a few hairs that belonged to Mrs. Littrell, but no traces of Mr. Littrell or Mr.
Mclean. The fact that they left no kind of ransom note leads me to believe that, just like
last time, they don’t want money out of this. We have an APB out on the bus that is missing,
that shouldn’t take too much longer to locate. We also are trying to find any witnesses that
were out on the street and may have seen anyone get on that bus, but so far no one has
come forward with information.”

Kevin took in a deep breath, “So do you think there is anything that we can do, I mean, I
just can’t sit here and wait.” Kevin was fidgeting in his chair, something that was very un-
Kevin like.

“Anything you can do to help is always welcomed. Just no playing hero, do you
understand?” Agent Harrison responded with his arms crossed.

Kevin didn’t feel like he could answer that question truthfully. He knew that no matter
what, if he had the chance to do whatever he needed to do to get his family back, he would
do it without hesitation. So he simply gave a nod to the agent.

“We will contact you as soon as we hear anything. Are you going to be staying in the
immediate area?”

“We are going to take a trip to Kentucky to check on their children. We should only be
there for about a week at the most.” Howie answered the man. “But we gave your Sergeant
our cell phone numbers, so don’t hesitate to call us.”

With that said the two remaining Backstreet Boys made their way out of the police station.
They had a flight to catch in two hours time.

The news about the others being missing had still not hit the news stations, but tomorrow
morning the news would be out. Kevin didn’t want the families to hear about all this over
the news. So him and Howie decided to fly out to Kentucky to tell Kevin’s family, and Brian’
s family. Howie was going to call the Carters once their plane landed, they didn’t want to
risk Jane to spill the news first. Now, 4 hours later, Kevin stood in front of the door that
held everyone that he didn’t want to break this terrible news to. Resting his hand on the
door knob, he pushed the door open, and put on his brave face.
