Chapter 2

“What are you doing here?” Lori asked. “I thought that I was home free once I moved to
North Carolina and sure enough here you are!”

“It’s nice to see that there are no hard feelings anymore,” AJ said with a hint of sarcasm in his
voice. He took off his sunglasses and stuck out his arms to hug her.

She stood there looking at him. “I wouldn’t touch you if you were the last man on the Earth! I’
m out of here. Thanks you guys for a great lunch.” She turned and started to walk away. “Oh
and Alex, stay as far away from me as possible.” With that, she walked out of the room and
disappeared until the beginning of the concert.

The guys were bugging him all night about what the scene was during lunch. AJ didn’t want to
talk about it at all. He couldn’t believe that she was still bitter about everything. “Mom, she’s
still really mad at me. She totally flipped out today when she saw me. I was shocked as hell to
see her and I kind of liked the fact that she was on tour with us, but now I think this is a bad
idea.”

“Lori is a good person. She will deal with this situation the best way she can. She’s probably
just lashing out at the fact that you were standing in front of her after seven years.” Denise
put one hand on her son’s shoulder and gave it a squeeze. “Don’t let it worry you too much.
Things will get better eventually.” With that, she left the room.

Tears were streaming down Lori’s face as she looked into the mirror. She just finished her set
onstage. She thought the performance went well, but that wasn’t what was bothering her.
She couldn’t believe that AJ was Alex. How lucky could she be, right.

She just wanted to go to bed and not even stay for the concert, but she was informed that she
had to be at the meet and greet after the show to promote her new album that was coming up.
She just fell back onto the couch and fell asleep until someone knocked on her door.

Nick was nervous walking up to her room. He never had acted like this before when it came
to girls. And he had seen lots of them come and go. There was something about Lori that he
liked and he wanted to get to know her a little bit better. He totally did not understand the
reason why she had flipped out on Jay like she did, nor did he understand how they knew
each other. He didn’t get a single answer out of AJ before the show. He figured it must have
been something pretty huge for AJ not to talk about it. AJ blabbed his mouth about
everything, whether it was personal or not.

Lori jumped off of the couch when she thought that she heard something. She was still in her
stage clothes and she wondered what time it was. She heard the knocking again and went to
the door.

“Hey, how’s it going?” Nick asked once she had opened the door. “Were you asleep?”

“Yeah. Shut-up and get in here,” Lori replied as she opened the door wider. “So, I’m
assuming that your part of the show is over.”

“Yeah, it was pretty good. I saw your set. You’re really talented,” Nick said.

“Thanks. I’m glad you liked it. I wasn’t really in the mood for anything at that particular
moment though, so I couldn’t really enjoy myself too much.” Lori went over to the little mini
closet to try to find her clothes to wear to the meet and greet.

“Yeah, look, I just wanted to say that I hope you are feeling better and that you will stay with us
on tour even though you and AJ have bad feelings towards each other,” Nick said.

Lori found what she was looking for and said, “I know. Believe me this is a major career move
and I am not about to let Alex stand in the way. It will not be an issue at all. Like I said to him,
as long as he stays away from me then things will be okay.” She went into the bathroom and
changed into her jeans and tank top. She came out of the bathroom shortly and then went
over to the vanity table where she began to put on her make up for the evening.

“Things will get better, I’m sure,” Nick repeated and then got up and started heading towards
the door. “See ya later, Lori.”

“Thanks, Nick,” Lori said as she got up from the table. She ran over to him and kissed him on
the cheek. “I really appreciate you guys going out of your way to make me feel welcome.
Especially now, since you guys probably think I’m a bitch because of the way I flipped out on
Alex.”

“Nobody thinks you’re a bitch, Lori,” Nick said. “I don’t even think AJ thinks that you are.” He
turned around and walked out of the door.

Lori followed him to the door and watched him walk down the hallway. She smiled to herself
and thought about how nice it was going to be on this tour after all. She was totally feeling
Nick and she thought that he might be feeling her too. So, with Alex thrown into the mix, she
knew it was going to be a very interesting tour.
