Trina Whitehead stepped out of her Brooklyn apartment for the first time in 2 months. Her heart was broken by her ex-fiancé. Trina thought everything was going good. All the arrangements were being made and then he just dumps her like that. Trina couldn’t believe it especially when she found out he had another love on the side. Her heart was crushed, broken in two she swore to herself that she’d never love another. Everything was so special that they had just being gone all like that? She couldn’t handle it. Everything Trina did reminded her of him…walks in the park, walks along the sandy beaches, the little café around the corner, work, there was nothing she could do to get her mind off him. Before she knew it her cell phone was ringing.

“Hello?”

“Hey Trina it’s Brian…I was just wondering if you were coming to work today?”

“Yes I am…I actually just walked out the door. Why? Did something happen today at the office?”

“Oh no…everyone here misses you. It hasn’t been the same that’s all. So I just wanted to know. Don’t worry there isn’t any emergencies or anything so just take your time,” he replied.

“Thanks Brian I am glad you are all concerned about me. I am in a hurry to come back to work so I will be there in a little while”

“Okay see you soon,” Trina hung up the phone and got into her car…and started her way onto work.

Meanwhile back at the office Brian sat at his desk waiting for Trina. He was just her secretary but they were also like best friends. They formed a deep bond over the past two years of working together.

“Why don’t you just tell her?” Brian looked up and saw Tori looking at him.

“Tell her what?”

“That you’re in LOVE with her”

“Who said I loved her like THAT?”

“Me! You clearly do. I saw you call her just a few moments ago. Just tell her Brian what harm is it going to do? The worst she can say is no” Tori said. Brian just sighed knowing Tori was right that ‘friend bond’ soon formed into a ‘more than friend bond’ and he couldn’t tell her. It would be too hard. Just then Trina came walking in from the elevator. Brian took one look and smiled. She missed her so much. She wore his favorite outfit…a not to short shirt just above the knee and with a white tang turtle neck…and her hair was just the same as ever pulled back into a pony tail so it wouldn’t get in the way. Brian got up from his desk and gave her a big hug.

“Oh Brian its so good to see you again. I have missed you so much.”

“I missed you too Trina good to finally have you back” he smiled.

“Okay Brian let’s go into my office and figure out what I am supposed to be doing “

“All right” Brian saw Tori mouthing ‘tell her now’ over and over again. Brian of course like normal just brushed if off and didn’t want to pay any attention to it. Trina and Brian walked into her office. She set down her briefcase and soon sat down at her desk.

“It feels weird to be back Brian”

“I am sure it does”

“We shared so many memories. He always picked me up for lunch and we’d go out. I missed that”

“Trina don’t get all sad on me now…you aren’t supposed to be thinking about him remember?”

“But Brian I can’t help it. He’s all around! I look at this desk and I can see him,” Trina looked at Brian with tears already starting to form.

“Please don’t cry Trina. Everything will be all right. I promise,” there was a moment of silence. The Trina got up and gave Brian a hug.

“Brian you are such a wonderful friend. What would I ever do without you?”

“Go crazy?” she laughed.

“Anyway, we gotta hurry up all right? Got a lunch date/ meeting thing.” Brian felt his heart just sink.

“A lunch date?” he questioned, “Why didn’t I just tell her sooner?”

“Brian?”

“Oh sorry um yes…what you’ve missed. Ms. Wilson’s divorce case was settled…I think she got like 200,000 or something like that. I can’t exactly remember, but it was better than nothing. And then the custody over the two little children of Mr. & Mrs. White is still in the process…and that is really all what has gone on..”

“Well I am glad Mrs. Wilson got something out of that damn divorce. She sure in the hell deserved it…and then those poor little kids that have to sit there and go through all of that. My goodness”

“Yea, but now that YOU’RE back you can get it all taken care of right? So it all should be good then”

“Yea…I guess…

That night Brian sat alone in his apartment thinking of only Trina’s mystery date.

“Why couldn’t it have been me? Why couldn’t I have been on that mystery date? Why can’t I just tell her? I am such a coward!” he told himself,” Maybe I should just get out of here? It would just save me the heartache. She’ll never look at me as anything more than a friend. All ready moving on and its not with me…it should be me dammit!! Only if I could make her see?” Brian got out a pad and pen and started to jot some ideas down. All he knew was he just had to get out of there…nothing would come out if it.

Trina walked into work the next morning to find Brian got at his desk.

“Tori where’s Brian?”

“I don’t know? Bill said he was in very early this morning and left something for you and then just kind of left. No one knows where he is at” Tori said. Trina gave Tori a funny look and then walked into her office to find a single pink rose with a letter attached to it. She walked to her desk and sat down and opened the letter addressed ‘TRINA”

Trina,

Hey! This is Brian…today you are probably wondering where I am at. Well, I am at the café down the street where you and Tyler used to always go to. I am only writing you this because I look at you for MORE than just a friend. For a long time now. I thought about leaving town, but I just couldn’t. I have no where else to go. And you are like my best friend. It’s okay if you don’t feel the same way I guess I just wish you’d feel the same way about me as I do to you. Tyler just isn’t worth missing Trina. He just ain’t worth missing. I also wrote you a little song…I hope you like it it’s called ‘He Ain’t Worth Missing”

He’s flying high tonight
He’s got a brand new lover
Here you come a runnin
You’re looking for some cover
I know you’re sad and lonely
I know you’re feeling blue
You miss him so much
Won’t let me get to close to you

Oh he ain’t worth missing
Oh we should be kissing
Stop all this foolish wishing
He ain’t worth missing
I know your head is turnin
I know your heart is burnin
Girl you gotta listen
Don’t you know he ain’t worth missing

You know I’m here to save you
But you ain’t through cryin yet
Look at your pretty face
All red and soakin wet
I’m gonna try and make him
Just a memory
Come on baby let’s get started
First thing you got to see

Oh he ain’t worth missing
Oh we should be kissing
Stop all this foolish wishing
He ain’t worth missing
I know your head is turnin
I know your heart is burnin
Girl you gotta listen
Don’t you know he ain’t worth missing

If you need someone to hold you
Someone to ease your pain
Well I’ll be holding steady
Girl when you get ready
I’m gonna show you
Love is a good thing
Yea love is a good thing

Oh he ain’t worth missing
Oh we should be kissing
Stop all this foolish wishing
He ain’t worth missing
I know your head is turnin
I know your heart is burnin
Girl you gotta listen
Don’t you know he ain’t worth missing

I hope to see you at the café

Love Always,
Brian

Trina couldn’t help but watch the tears run down her face. It was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for her. Trina grabbed her coat and keys and walked out of the office.

“Tori hold all of my calls something just came up

“Okay will do”

~~~
Trina arrived at the café and saw Brian just sitting there alone and checking the time of his watch. She couldn’t help but smile. She walked in and walked up to Brian.
“Hey there stranger,” Brian turned around and smiled.
“You made it!”
“Of course I did. Brian…that was the most sweetest thing anybody had ever done for me”
“I tried”
“No…I really mean it…if I didn’t I wouldn’t have come here. Brian, I would love it if we could be more than just friends. It could be good. I know you, you know me so it’s good right?” Brian nodded and gave her a hug. Everything worked out in the end. Brian decided to stay and Trina decided to give Brian a chance. What better ending could you have asked for?
