I've been a BSB fan since 1997 and been writing fanfic off and on since 1999. Started out with my own (ultra teenybopper) website, moved on to FanFiction.net, and obviously now AC is where I currently resign ;) Nick tends to make an appearance in all of my stories, whether they're about him or not! He's such an attention whore. I've written a lot of Nick romance in terms of my longer stories, but you'll find that my one-shots are mainly about the boys themselves doing what they do best - angsting and being cheesy and bromantic. Aww I really enjoyed this story, Tracy! Congrats on finishing it up. I liked how you showed the boys in the future and how Nick became a storyboard artist. Yay that his dream came true! I also thought it was very sweet how he and Laura got married and how his son wants to go to Disney for his birthday and takes after him. I'm glad things worked out for the two of them in the end - they really came full circle and grew into that classic Frick and Frack relationship that we all love :) Once again congrats on finishing it up, I'm going to miss the updates for this one, I really liked it!
Oh also how Howie's a janitor. Bahahaha! Karma's a bitch indeed.

I loved the scene in the waiting room with all of them. Especially when Rochelle smelled the sweatshirt and thought how it had seemed like years ago she'd thought about replacing the air freshener in the car. I love the little details like that that you add in, they always make your stories seem so real and human. It's cool too to see how you've written the BSB and they seem like the same guys that were in Borrowed Time, just older. You definitely have a great grip on their personalities - they're so consistent and I love that. It's like I'm reading about the real BSB! (Not that I'd ever want something like this to happen, of course.)
Errr anyway I keep awkwardly fangirling over your writing in the review box. I also really loved the end bit of this and I can't wait to see where you take it. Of course Nick is going to have to find out eventually that AJ died, but I wonder if he'll put two and two together or not... predictions! Okay I'll stop now. As always, I love it. xx
Author's Response: I was actually seriously going for the Borrowed Time but older effect, like I sort of mentioned in the other review this story is really closely tied with Borrowed Time in the research stages and I was even considering making it a sort of sequel to Borrowed Time. Obviously it took a turn from that, but I really liked the way the guys personalities developed in Borrowed Time - I felt like I "got" them a little more because I was working with them younger, so now I have this grasp of their history that I didn't really have before and I feel like it's improved my abilities to capture their personalities. So yes all that to say I'm glad you noticed the BT connection there. <3

I loved the scene at the beginning with Nick and Lauren. It was so heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time, because obviously Nick doesn't know what's going on, and it was good of Lauren not to tell him. I also loved the scene with AJ and Rochelle, when she put their tattoos together, wah! He was so stupid to follow her, but it's so fitting that Nick's going to get his heart and gah. Hannah, this story is so amazing! I loved the bit at the end with Brian. The last line was perfection. I love how you're using the real girlfriends and wives in this too. I just love it. Love it, love it, love it. It's all so real, and I'm somewhat convinced you've made friends with Nick while living in Nashville because you write them so well! Haha.

Author's Response: LOL I wish I'd made friends with Nick in Nashville! Thus far the only celebrity sighting we've had is a Christian singer (who sucks kinda) named Derek Webb. It was really random. LOL But anyways I'm glad you find it so realistic. That's what I go for when I write. I like including reality (ie., the real girlfriends, etc) because I mean technically they're "canon" now and it just seems like that's part of the challenge - fitting a story into actual life events and tour dates and stuff. Ahhh great start Hannah! As always the little details you add are so perfect, with the dogs surveying the scene and such. It makes everything play out just like a movie. Is Nick going to get AJ's heart? OMG. I hope that's the case lol because I had watched a show with a plotline sort of like that, and had kind of wanted to write a story like that but if this story is that and you're writing it than I can just read it and...yaaay!

The idea for this story has been playing around in my head since I read of a situation like this while researching heart conditions for Borrowed Time. I was half contemplating making it a Brian/Nick thing until I realized that Nick's heart is crap too! LOL I think what I have planned for this fits much better with Nick/AJ anyway and it's going to be a fun time getting it written. I'm glad you're enjoying it!
I really liked how you portrayed Rochelle's conflicted emotions in this one. Because of course she would want Nick to get a new heart, but I definitely agree that there'd be resentment there. And she shouldn't blame herself, it's not her fault that AJ got drunk and followed her. Of course all of that is hard to see through her grief. I also liked the point you brought up about the Backstreet Wives, and how their friendships are based on their relationships with the guys. Sometimes I wonder what it's like to be part of the five of them, and how they interact, you know? Anyway, still loving this and can't wait for the next one! :)
Author's Response: It seems natural that the girls would be forced to be friends and their personalities are so different I can't imagine it would be all sunshine and bubbles as a result. LOL But from what I've witnessed of them myself it seems like Rochelle and Lauren are really close, and everyone says Leighanne hates Lauren and various other relationship blips. LOL I don't know how reliable those things are but hey -- they make for a good story element! ;) I bet it's really interesting to be a part of the group of the Backstreet Wives. Bwahaha I wouldn't have ANY OBJECTIONS to giving the experience a test drive either. So long as I got at least ONE night.. ;) Thanks for the feedback!! <3
Oh my Godddd. I understand why Rochelle felt she had to leave, but that scene was so sad. It's easy to tell that she and Lauren are really close, and I hope they continue to stay that way (Or not, because ~drama~!!! lol) And yuck, poor Nick only being able to eat bland hospital food, but I guess that makes sense. I did laugh when he was like "You're low calories, right babe?" lol such a Nick thing to say. I love him in this story. I can't wait to read what happens when the guys finally do visit him and he finds out about AJ!

OH MY GOD.
I love you just went right into it! And the description of Lauren crying while she was putting the groceries away was perfection. You have such a way of making the simplest of things interesting. I love how Nick proposed to her just as she was about to tell him about the heart, and I LOVED Nick's reaction to hearing the news, calling AJ, and then calling him again as it sank in and he really didn't know what to do or say. Also how he pulled Panda into his lap - interesting because the girls were saying before how he hated her. Hmmmmmmmmm! Great, GREAT chapter Hannah!

I like trying to draw out the poignancy of simple things. I feel like theres a lot of story in the things that people overlook. Awww. I loved this scene with Nick and Lauren, and I feel so bad for poor Nick. Of course he's feeling sort of guilty, but it's not his fault. And that he's the last to know - that sucks, but again, there was the obvious reason. Ack I just want to give him a big hug! And I totally understood Lauren wondering about the proposal, even though it didn't seem like the right time, but he had just asked so it's natural she would have been thinking about it and wondering if he was serious. I'm glad he asked again at the end of the chapter, but it was interesting the emphasis you put on AJ's heart in the last line! Ahhh I can't wait to see where this goes and I am loving every word!
Ooooh, so now Rochelle is going to go live with them and a bunch of drama will ensue! I can't wait! I love reading about Lauren and Rochelle in this story - I think Lauren is actually my favourite character in it so far! And the image of Nick walking around with his cell phone and leaving messages on AJ's voicemail is just heartbreaking. Update soon! Love it! :)

oooooh I like how you had Nick pick up Rochelle at the airport...and how he's been sneaking food LOL that's so Nick. I really enjoyed the scene with him stealing the french fries and then using the blueberries as cover, haha! And I also really liked his "the heart that counts comment" that he made seemingly without even realizing. Great one as always :)
Author's Response: I originally had named this story "The Heart that Counts" but then I heard LWKYUAN and it kind of fits the story so I decided to use the BSB song reference. Now rereading/editing this chapter I sorta wish I'd stuck with the original title. Just a little trivia. And LOL Nick with the blueberries was a fun thing to imagine when I wrote it. :) Thanks once more for the review ...MUAH!
Oh God all I want to eat now is corned beef hash it's legit my favourite meal... I ate it every date in Vegas. I'm not even kidding. Yummmmm. Also love Diners Drive Ins and Dives... this diner Julia, Karen, Alicia and I went to the day after the cruise had actually been on the show! It had the guy's poster in it and everything. So cool. Uh anyway, about the story LOL. I feel so bad for Nick! I could just picture him standing outside the room and listening to everything. And I completely get where Rochelle's coming from - it must be so hard for her to see Nick living and breathing while AJ's dead, but this physical part of him lives on. I also loved the part where Nick was like "I wouldn't forget Rochelle." and how he mentioned she looks different. Those little things that you drop in just make this so realistic and interesting. Gah. I can't wait to see where this goes with the two of them, and with Lauren in the mix too since they're such good friends. I love this story so much, Hannah! It's fantastic!

Oh man, all of these were so perfect. I love how you displayed Nick's friendship with AJ and his grief through them. Like, he'll tell AJ this funny little anecdote and then later he'll be mad at him for dying, then he'll call him and apologize... gah. It's so real and so raw. You write Nick so well, because I could completely picture him doing this and saying all of these things. I don't blame Rochelle for listening to them, I probably would have too, I'd be too curious not too! I also loved how you showed Nick's subconscious affection for her through these messages, like where he picked out the zebra print or how he thought he saw her and his heart did a jump. Ahh! I loves it. :)

Awwww poor Nick! Of course he would call Kevin when he's in distress but what does he expect him to do when he's in Florida and Kevin's in New York? Classic Nick though, lol. Too drunk to realize and his first instinct is to call Kevin. I feel so bad for him, for both of them, really :(
I really liked how each of them when woken up were like "who would be waking me up? Oh, that's who." That was a really nice touch and I thought it worked well to link all the scenes together! I also liked the flashback, and I'm curious as to where Brian is in all of the stuff happening in the present and what his thoughts are on Nick's actions and how he's been in the tabloids recently. Really enjoying this so far.
