While Nick struggles to deal with what happened on the cruise, Howie’s indiscretions lead to dire consequences.Go Nick!! I found the fact that he told Kevin off to be beyond satisfying!! If I were in Nick's position, I probably would have done the same thing. Sometimes Kevin needs to learn when to keep his advice to himself. In all fairness, I feel as though Nick has every right to hate Howie at the moment. He has put him through hell and it will take him a while to get over it (if he does at all). As much as I feel badly for Howie, I am totally team Nick at this point. :)
Author's Response: LOL I love that there are teams in this story! You seem to be one of the only ones on Team Nick, which surprises me! I think that Nick still cares about Howie deep down, but like you said, he has every right to hate him at the same time. I'm glad his reaction seemed believable to you. Thanks for the review!!
Again, I'm going to start by saying that I'm so glad that you updated this! I like how you have incorporated Q's passing. It must have been such a difficult time for the guys.
It's sweet that Nick cares about Howie even after what's happened. As much as he's trying to be a hardass right now, I can see him and Howie eventually working things out.
Finally, congrats on your house purchase! You must be so excited! I can't wait until my husband and I are finally in a position to purchase our first place. :)
Author's Response: Thanks for the review! :) It was hard to write about Q's death, but I felt like I needed to include it. It's the kind of thing that just might help Nick and Howie settle their differences... maybe. ;) Thanks for the congrats! I close on Tuesday and will be moving next weekend. I'm so ready!! It's been stressful, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Something to look forward to in your future!
So, I just berated you about updating this story in a response to one of the reviews that you left for me. I should have checked the Most Recent page first apparently. LOL
Anyways, I'm thrilled that you updated! There were so many things in this chapter that pulled at my heartstrings that it's hard for me to comment on all of them. I suppose what got to me the most was the "I dreamed of Nick" line. I don't know why, but that was the most powerful line of the whole chapter for me.
Author's Response: LOL I just saw your response and wondered if you had seen that I updated. :) Thanks so much for the review! I'm glad you liked that line. I wanted to get it across that, even though he's still trying to win his wife back, Howie really does have feelings for Nick.
I think I was just as surprised as Howie to find out that it was Kevin and AJ in the waiting room. I was all geared up for a big, emotional reunion between Nick and Howie LOL. I suppose that I will have to wait for that little bromance moment.

My heart is breaking a little for Howie. I think the saddest part of this chapter was that he kept asking about Leigh. I really like how you've managed to capture all of his conflicting emotions. You're making it easy to get inside Howie's head, which is not something that many people seem to be able to do!
Author's Response: Thanks so much!! Your compliment means a lot to me because it's been a challenge to write Howie this way. He seems like such a happy-go-lucky guy in real life that it's hard to envision him as this suicidal mess, even though he has his reasons for feeling this way. I'm glad you find it believable - I wasn't sure!

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the Brian and Nick moments in this chapter. I think it's refreshing that Brian hasn't shut Nick out. I was worried that you were gonna make Brian come across as a total ass who was unable to accept what had happened between Nick and Howie. Thanks for not doing that. :)
I could totally see the boys actually referring to Brian's past behaviour as the "Blurry Brian phase". That whole situation with the House of Carters bit was just weird in my opinion. Like everyone couldn't figure out who he was ... WTF?? That still irks me to this day.
Anyways, excellent update and I'm still "team Nick."
Author's Response: LOL Thanks! I enjoyed writing the Brian and Nick parts too. I think Brian is having a harder time accepting what Howie did than what happened to Nick because I think he sees Nick as a victim of this (maybe because the way he found out about it was from Nick accusing Howie of raping him LOL). I think it would take a lot for Brian to completely turn his back on either of them, but especially Nick. Blurry Brian is what we called him on the forum back in the day after House of Carters, but I could definitely see the guys adopting the same nickname. You know I love Brian, and I can see how an appearance on House of Carters would conflict with his Christian solo career at the time, but it was definitely weird and kind of douchey of him to do that. Ah well... ancient history! I'm glad Frick and Frack seem to be intact these days. Thanks so much for the review! :)
First, I almost fell off my chair when I saw that you had posted an update!! LOL I'm definitely still reading and waiting eagerly for your next update. I'm thrilled that you're writing again. I know how hard it can be to try and fit writing into your real life. I'm struggling to find the time to write at the moment myself. Second, OMG can we all say "DRAMA"???? Poor Howie! What else are you going to do to the poor man??

OMG, so, I totally wanted to scream at Nick in this chapter!! Really?? I know that he's kinda pissed at Howie and all (understatement of the century there), but AJ needed to convince him to go to the hospital?! Come on now!! I know that Nick doesn't really want Howie to die, but I can see how it would be hard for him to suck it up and go talk to him. I'm excited to see where this all ends up. Also, as an aside, it would be great if you checked out Soldier Down. It's been a battle for me to find time to write recently, so I'm definitely appreciative of any type of feedback. :)
Author's Response: No, Nick doesn't want Howie to die, but he's also afraid to face him, after everything that's gone down. He's going to have to get past the awkwardness though, for the sake of his friend. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing! I have seen Soldier Down on the Most Recent and definitely want to check it out when I have more time! I am swamped right now getting ready for school, which starts next week, but maybe this weekend I will have some time to read. I will definitely leave you some reviews if I do. :)
Hmmmmm so I'm thinking that Howie will change his mind about getting the liver transplant and the only way he will be able to have it is from a living donor. None of the other guys will be a match except for - wait for it - NICK!! HAHA Am I right?? :P Seriously though, I enjoyed this chapter. I really felt for Howie; wanting to leave the hospital and see his kids. Like I've said before, the way in which you present Howie's internal struggles comes across as very realistic. Eagerly awaiting the next update!!

So, I apparently missed this update when you posted it. Ooooops! Anyways, I enjoyed seeing the conversation from Howie's perspective. It's always nice to know what both sides are thinking. The description of Howie's mom really got to me. I have a hard time accepting the fact that my parents are getting older so I could totally relate to Howie and what he was thinking/feeling in that moment even though I'm 10+ years younger than him. Great update!
Author's Response: Thanks! I thought this one was a good one to show from both sides. I felt for both Howie and his mom in this situation too. It's hard enough watching our parents growing older and knowing that we're going to face losing them someday, but on the other side of things, I can't imagine being a parent and facing the loss of a child either. Okay, so I'm a little late to the game in terms of reviewing this chapter, but OMG!! Really, Nick? Where do you think you're going? You're just going to walk away from Lauren after she's supported you all this time?? Ugh! I totally understand that he's trying to do what he thinks is best for her, but literally walking away from her probably wasn't the best choice. However, I can TOTALLY see him actually behaving that way, so kudos for nailing his character!! Excited for the next update! :)

I got so busy this spring, I just kind of stopped checking my mail and am trying to catch up on things now so I can post a new chapter. I think Nick definitely showed his impulsiveness/immaturity in this chapter, but I also think he was trying to piss her off and hurt her so that she would be more willing to let him go. He thinks he's doing her a favor. He's a moron, but his heart's in the right place. I'm glad you could see him acting that way - thanks!
Awwwww the end of this chapter gave me the warm-fuzzies! It's so nice to see Nick and Howie interacting with one another again in a way that is almost "normal". I really do think that Howie recovering at Nick's house is the right choice (although, like Nick, I initially thought that Lauren was a crazy person for suggesting it). On a side note, I also HATE having my blood drawn. I feel Nick's pain in that department!! :D

I was so excited to see this update! It barely took me any time at all to jump right back in to this story ... just had to re-read the ending of the last chapter. HAHA Anyways, Lauren is freaking amazing!! It's so obvious how much she loves Nick. I can totally see her sticking by him no matter what, so I definitely think that you've nailed her character. Also, the little exchange between Brian and Nick made me all nostalgic. *sigh* Lovely update!!

I love Lauren!! I've never written a lot about her in fanfic before, but I'm enjoying developing her into a character. She's sure put up with a lot through being with Nick in real life, so I think it would take a lot to push her away. Thanks again for the feedback! :)
I enjoyed that you used this chapter as a chance to present a bit of the back-story. It was a refreshing break from all of the heartache and seriousness of the last chapter. I know I've said this before, but the whole situation is just so believable that I often have to remind myself that it's not true!! HAHA (Sorry Howie!) I totally remember that People magazine article and thinking (like Howie) that Nick looked good. That was probably the first time in my life that I'd ever thought that he was good looking (not as good looking as Brian mind you). LOL I've also grown to appreciate Nick more over the years as he's become healthier and (I think) happier. I'm not sure why I didn't like him in the beginning as he's the closest to my age ... *shrugs* Oh well!

I needed a way to keep up switching POVs every chapter, and it was hard to figure out what to write with Howie comatose, so I thought a couple of chapters of him thinking back on his life and showing some of the back story would be interesting. I'm glad you liked it! I am the exact same way with Nick - he used to be my least favorite back in the 90s; maybe it was because everyone else liked him and I wanted to be different, but I just found him annoying. He started to grow on me after his first solo album, and now I would put him right behind Brian as my favorite. I definitely drooled over the pictures in that People article! He is definitely more attractive, inside and out, than he used to be.
