I can understand the way that you feel, that's why I've decided to test the waters before jumping in with two feet. It is a little forced. I had the most trouble writing it. In what I have planned in my head, you actually find out that she's not dead in the very beginning before Brian knows. But you're right, it does take a complete turn from the direction of the first story. I'm really glad that you liked the first story though!

I don't know about this chapter...It seems to turn this story into a super cheesy soap opera. In a bad way. I know the story was full of drama before, but that wasn't forced. This seems...quite forced. The first story didn't seem fake, but this seems like it would be. Don't get me wrong, I love the story. I actually read the whole thing today. But I don't think that this goes along with the message of the first.
Hopefully you don't take this wrong. Just trying to give an honest review. I think this is actually only the second review I've given over the years I've been here, so that says something, I hope. Keep on writing. I'll keep reading. You're great :)
