I am so excited I have a story I really love to share with you all as featured story.  I know this isn't genre isn't everyone's cup of tea and if you give it a try and really don't find you enjoy it, I won't hold it against you.

1) Tell us one thing about your story that no one else knows?

This is the third incarnation of the the story.  The first was only going to be Nick and a female traveler.  Nick's role was the same as it is now but there was no Kevin, and no others planned.  The 2nd incarnation was quite different then what the story actually became. This one was a Kevin story but it was about him being a time traveler, no female planned.   Oh and I wrote most of the first chapter last year, put it aside then opened it this past July and the ideas just flew into my head and I've been going strong ever since.

2) How long did it take you to write this entire story?

Since I first started the story July of '10 I could say a little over a year but I didn't truly start writing the story til this past July so I'd like to say a little over three months.

3) Give us a summary different from the one you have posted on AC, with a few more spoilers to make people tune in.

Time travel what more can you ask for? Elvis? Check. Ancient Rome? Check. Nick eating peaches seductively? Check.  Kevin as a main character? Check.

Volunteers sent through time to find those who were displaced when an experimental time project exploded soon find themselves needing the help of one of those displaced persons to find one of their own,

4) What made you come up with the concept of this one?

I am not positive how I got the idea. I remember talking to Julie (no not my character, rokofages75) one night around the time I started Of Love and Time and mentioning something.  I think I got the idea because I wanted to do a historical fiction and this was one way of achieving that.

5) Who was your favorite character in this story and why?

You all probably think I am going to say Kevin and I do love Kevin but my favorite is Nick.  He is complex, I like it.

6) You had to know this was coming, who was your least favorite?

Probably AJ.  I needed someone for his role and he was free, but there isn't a whole lot I've been able to do with him … he's a “damsel in distress”.

7) Are all the boys in this one? If not why did you choose to exclude them?

All of the boys are in this. Kevin and Nick have the bigger roles but AJ, Brian and Howie all have important minor roles.  I needed more than just the three characters so I used all of them, even needed more so I used a couple of my reviewers.

my beta is my stalker, I just can't seem to get rid of her and that's how I found her too, or rather SHE found ME.  I picked her because she was available.  I really wanted to share the story with someone and I wanted someone to point out possible plot holes/confusion points to me so I knew if I was confusing the reader correctly and making them wonder the right things.   You already have an amazing beta I heard, so search no further.

Did you do a lot of research for the story?

Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick
Post by: Purpura Lipstick on October 01, 2011, 02:38:23 PM
Yes, actually. For all of the historical parts I researched.  For the 60's I actually researched the name of the woman in charge of costumes, Edith was really the costume designer.  I even went so far as to look up what a term of a good looking guy was...  For Rome I researched what clothing looked like, what it was called, the slave market and even some Latin phrases.  I researched some of Valley Forge as well for the scenes that are getting ready to take place.  It was Karin that told me about the germ warfare, I double checked of course, but she gave me that great history tidbit.

I enjoyed the research and it has sort of made me want to do a complete historical fic.  :)   I hope you all enjoy the historical parts of it story.

Congrats Lore!! *throws confetti*

I just love this story...but you knew that already. I probably asked you this before during one of our chats, but why not ask again.

Is this story outlined? Do you just go with the flow? (I'll come up more questions a bit later...)
Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick
Post by: Purpura Lipstick on October 02, 2011, 05:27:38 PM
The basic story is plotted out. I knew what I wanted to have happen and about when... chapter 12 was NOT outlined, that was a go with the flow moment.  I notice that I outlined a lot more the close to the end I got so that I made sure I included everything that needed to be there.

I'm here now and excited to ask you about :

1. Where did you get the idea of combining the sexyness of Nick and the peaces?  :D
2. I've told you this before that the first six chapters was confusing for me, did you get confuse sometimes as well when you were writing this?
3. Do you also have stubborn characters? Like you know what you were going to write for this chapter and then your character suddenly decides he/she wanted otherwise?
Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick
Post by: Purpura Lipstick on October 03, 2011, 10:14:36 AM
1.  I wrote the peach scene the week before I went on my camping trip for the peach festival so I admit peaches were on my mind.  I did not plan it, but when I had him grab a peach from the fridge while Julie was on the phone, well the rest kind of just happened.  I almost deleted the peach scene because I wasn't sure it really fit, you can thank my beta Karin (twofaced) for the peach scene remaining.

2.  Oh hell yes this story confuses me at times too!  I have never had to go back and re-read my story to make sure stuff lined up as much as I have with this one. This is the first time I've had a beta too, to make sure I am not really missing plot holes and such. In fact, as I sit here replying to you I am thinking there is a part in Chapter 29 that I need to adjust to fit with something I wrote in chapter 25.  I've tried very hard not to be too confusing but you can see how I am sort of keeping the reader confused because the main character, Julie is.

3. Stubborn characters: YES!   The peach scene came around because of Nick being stubborn.  Like I mentioned, I wasn't going into that chapter with that in mind, it just came out and I blame Nick!  Kevin is also pretty stubborn but I knew going in with him as a main character that he was likely to change chapters on me (he's done it in the past with other stories of mine).  The basics of my story have been the same throughout, but how they've reached the point they are at have changed due to characters.

You have mentioned before that you listen to a specific playlist while writing for this story to inspire. Do you mind sharing those 15 songs? Am I wrong to assume that they were all from the first album until the Never Gone album since Kevin is your main character here.  ;D
Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick
Post by: Purpura Lipstick on October 04, 2011, 02:08:41 PM
well they are not all BSB songs actually. LOL.

The first song to really inspire me to write this story was, drum roll please, Nick's Falling Down!   Yes a Nick song! LOL.
The next songs to make it on my list was Bless The Broken Road by Rascall Flatts and Need You Now by Lady Antebellum, followed by Honey Bee by Blake Shelton.

Soon Great Divide and Arms by Christina Perri joined those.

Moves Like Jagger -Maroon 5
Misery - Maroon 5
Beautiful Lie
On My Own - from Les Mis
Burning Up
More - Usher
and Love you Like a Love Song *hides* -Selena Gomez
all made it on the list before finally both I Still and Show Me the Meaning made it on, at last some songs with Kevin! LOL.

I need to find another song or two from my IPod or in general to add that will maybe spur the last few chapters along.

This is the first story since More Than That that had it's own specific song list that I listened to.  All my other stories I have a general fanfic writing list...

Mare I am going to have to go through my more rock/metal songs to find something for the end of the story.  Gotta have something to fit the final few chapters.

I always love to use Planet Hell - Nightwish when writing baddies so that might get added.

Some of those songs are on there to give me something else to listen to or it would be maybe 8 or 9 songs.

Is it weird that I don't listen to anything when writing?  Only one song ever inspired me to write a story and that was Resistance by Muse.

Does listening to music help you to write?

If this were being made into a movie, who would you pick to play the characters?  It can't be any of the boys though!

listening to music usually helps me write in general, helps me to evoke the moods or feelings I want to use when writing.

Usually it's just a list of songs that I like to listen to, but some of the songs on my list just spurred me to write CP so I started it's own list.  :)

I will have to get back to you about the movie, I gotta think of people to cast. LOL.

If I have to choose one that is in the story I'd have to go with 1960's.  She was on a movie set with Elvis! LOL.  I would still want to be able to come back though.

I love ancient rome, but I love reading about it. I wouldn't want to actually go there.  Oh and I love Chinese history too... again, I'll stick to reading about it though :)

How did you pick the eras they were in?

Is there a certain reason why you made the age difference in their real time? (Sorry just making up questions)

What so far have you found the most challenging about this story?

Which storyline are you finding the most fun to write?

The 1960's just sort of fell into place when I had Julie jump to a beach.  I don't know why but my first thought was Blue Hawaii and well I went from there looking into the movie stuff.

Ancient Rome - it's one of my favorite time periods and I felt it would make a good place for them to be with the whole slave thing being prominent then.  Plus, Purpura is latin *eye roll* okay that was cheesy and not a real reason.

Not sure if there is a reason behind the rest, I picked random times and places and looked up what was happening then.

What do you mean by the second one. LOL.

I like fantasy, sci-fi probably because I grew up watching and reading it so my mind gravitates towards those kinds of storylines.  I am not great at writing fanfic that doesn't have something unusual about it.  Rather than give my characters a disease I throw them through time, for some reason I am more comfortable giving them unusual obsticles to overcome.  Plus I like to make things up... and in fantasy/sci fi it's easier, at least for me.

The most challenging is because it's time travel.  Keeping all the little details that need to come up again.  Things like AJ's first meeting with Julie is AFTER Julie's first meeting with AJ.  Keeping that information straight...  there are still a few details hanging out there that I hope can get wrapped up in the last few chapters.

The entire storyline is fun to write.  I enjoy writing about the different jumps and throwing in the history.  They are never really in one particular time long enough for it to really be a storyline of its own.

^ I didn't mean to offend anyone that writes those.  Props to those who can, I just can't.

Though I've given people amnesia frequently, guess that's a disease! LOL. And there was Fanthrax... but that wasn't a real disease.  Disease was the first thing I thought of... there are plenty of "real life" topics I have a hard time writing.

Just because you can't though, it's not right to imply other plots aren't unique.

For "sickness" stories, it depends on the disease, the way it's handled by the characters, etc. Like Cancer stories are common, but the way Julie does it in CC is pretty different. Or to toss in my own story, Alzheimer's is a subject rarely tackled. So generalizing isn't fair.

I mean, like in sci-fi/fantasy plots, time-travel actually tends to be overused. Whether in TV, movies, or books. So really, it's all about perspective, and it's just not right to generalize like that.

Just my view since I've written in both genres comfortably.

Do we need to be attacking anyone right now? This isn't a "My genre is better than your genre because...." thread, this is our chance to ask Lore why she's writing what she's writing. This isn't to try to compare her to other stories and say why other stories are better or that her timetravel is overused. I for one am enjoying her story a lot more than most I've attempted to read on this site and I'm damn proud of her for being featured after 4 years of writing in this community.
Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick

Unusual to me means not real and since time travel and alternate dimesions are not real they are unusual.  I never mentioned the word unique because yes, time travel is not unquie to sci-fi.  That is what was meant by my comment not that I think my stuff is better because it doesn't deal with sickness.

If you want to further discuss how you misunderstood my comment take it up with me in PM and not on my featured story thread since this is not the debate thread.  Thank you.
Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick
Post by: Rose on October 09, 2011, 09:26:24 PM
Well considering I've written in both genres, it wouldn't be a "my genre is better than my genre" lol. I have no real set genre, so to speak.  I wasn't putting down her story at all. I was making a point about how assumptions shouldn't be made about different genres, because  "unusual" is heavily based on perspective.

No attacks were made at all, and if it came off that way, I'm sorry you think so. :)

I never said anyone thought their stuff was better Lore. And if I did, please point it out to me, because I didn't mean it that way. However, I don't appreciate being double-teamed over a harmless discussion. Honestly, if you thought I was attacking, it makes me wonder a bit. Because no attacks were intentional, therefore, I see no reasons for PMs. Why not discuss out in the open?

It appears you have different opinion of what unusual means than me. Like I said, to me it means not real.  Unusual does not equal Unique in what my reply to my questions were.  Like I JUST said.  There are plenty of UNIQUE cancer/sickness stories but they are not what I meant by unusual.

That is all I really want to talk about on this difference of what I meant by the word unusual and how it was interpreted.

Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick
Post by: Rose on October 09, 2011, 09:37:08 PM
Okay, fine. It came off badly, and the reason why I know this, is because I wasn't the sole person who read it that way. I'm just the one who questioned it. My post was a reply to both yours and Karin's, since you guys decided to double team me. So that's why my post discussed more than what you wanted to talk about.

As I said, I wasn't attacking. And if I was, I'd appreciate being shown how I did so. Just as you say I misread you, you misread me. So that said, the thread should move on. :)

Correct?

Congratulation s on being a featured author, Lore :) you know I am loving this story. What made you decide to make Nick a "bad guy" and how did you come up with the concept of The Library because I thought that was interesting.
Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick
Post by: Purpura Lipstick on October 10, 2011, 10:09:10 AM
Thanks Tracy, I am glad you are enjoying.

First I love that you used quotes around "bad guy" :-D  there is only one aspect of him that is really a making him a true jerk!  In my original idea for the story it was going to be two time travelers, one "good" one "bad" but it was based on perspective.  Nick was always the one wanting to set history right, to right the wrongs.  Since the story was always from the POV of the "good" traveler it sheds a light on Nick as the "bad guy".  If I wrote it from the POV of one of the volunteers that works with Nick, Julie and Kevinw would probably appear to be the bad guys.

If that was more then what you wanted, lol. Sorry. I chose Nick because I like him as a bad boy? LOL.

The idea of The Library came about because I needed one constant unchanging thing.  Something that would have a record of how history was prior to anyone rescuing, before anyone went back and changed anything.  With all of the jumping the question comes up of how do you know that, for instance, that someone changed the outcome of the Revolutionary War?  There needed to be something that would hold a record of history prior.  One thing about The Library that isn't explained (currently) is how, if the books inside are unchanged, how do they find books and information on how it's been changed.

Also, another as of yet unexplained thing, is how the Librarian is connected to The Library.

I know you tend to write fantasy, what in your opinion makes that so appealing?

I think I need another stab at answering this question better.

I watch a lot of sci-fi and read a lot of fantasy so I think my brain just automatically tries to find some fantasy,  sci-fi, supernatural or just plain weird aspect to add to each of my stories.   I do have a few stories that do not have something "weird" or not "weird" enough and my muse seems to struggle to continue the storyline.

I have a question and you can answer it WITHOUT explanation YET.  ;) Because explaining why might give something away that we shouldn't read yet,

If you are a volunteer whose team would you be? Nick's or Kevin's?  ;D

Oh I can answer that one without a problem.  I'd be on Kevin's.  Not just because he's my fave or anything either.

As tempting as it would be to be able to change something in the past, to right a wrong.  How do we learn if those mistakes or atrocities aren't in our past?  And who's to say something worse wouldn't happen if something was changed?

If this were being made into a movie, who would you pick to play the characters?  It can't be any of the boys though!

Okay I keep thinking about this every now and then but can't think of a good cast, so I'm going to turn the question around to my readers.  Who would YOU cast if this was a movie, not using the boys?

Perhaps this will help me to decide and you all might have some actors I wouldn't have thought of using but would work.  :-D

Hmm let me see!

For Kevin I'd pick Richard Armitage as he's also tall, dark and handsome and has played a character who keeps you guessing whether he was good or evil.

You all know I'd cast Mark Wahlberg but you probably won't watch the movie so as much as I love that guy, he's out for this movie.  :D

James Franco totally needs a role somewhere... maybe as Howie, since he's a winker too?

Agreed!

I'm trying to think of blonde actors for Nick and Brian.

How about Alexander Skarsgard for Nick?  I like him in True Blood as the loveable bad boy Erik!

Post by: kevmylove on October 10, 2011, 02:46:41 PM
EEEEK I love Erik!

Ok...so um...I think I would have Julie be played either by Amy Adams (because she has a sweet side, but I also saw her as a badass in the fighter.) Or Anne Hathaway.

As for Kevin it would proly be Jeffrey Dean Morgan (He looks like a time traveler...lol . He reminds me of Kevin too.)

Nick would be played by Alex Pettyfer.

I'll have to come back for Howie and Brian.

Oh yes, Alex Pettyfer is a very pretty boy, mmm.  And I like Jeffrey Dean Morgan too.

How bad is it that I've only got men on my mind and can't think of the girls? lol

that would actually be a good Howie.

Notice the girl is the first one I found...lol. Those are pretty easy going actresses I thought of Zoey Deschnel (however you spell it) but she's a bit comedic.

It is interesting to see the choices you all are choosing some of them never even crossed my mind.  So far nobody has named the three I have cast... I will give my cast when I complete it. ;)

Once a teaser...alway s a teaser!

Funny, I see Natalie Portman as Julie... She makes an amazing Damsel in Distress turned heroin! We need a lovely bad ass for Erika... Hmmmm, maybe Angelina Jolie?

Here's mine

Kevin - Richard Armitage
Nick - Alexander Skarsgard
Howie - James Franco
Brian - Ewan McGregor
AJ - Milo Ventimiglia
Julie - Hayden Panetierre (because of the character she played in Heroes)
Erika - Angelina Jolie

What about Steph, Steph? LOL. :)

I love seeing the actors that others perceive.  Did you think of any of those while you were reading or just when I asked you to think of some?
Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick

The only one I immediately thought of was Richard Armitage, the rest I only thought of when asked.

Hmm, for Steph I don't know, she's got to be a bit of a nasty character, but who?

Drew Barrymore as Jessica

Okay here is my cast love it or hate it all you want

Kevin  - Alex O'Loughlin
Julie  - Mila Kunis
Brian - Robin Dunne
Howie - Henry Cavill
AJ -Milo Ventimiglia  (thanks Steph)
Steph - Kristen Bell (and I tried to think of someone else but everything I wrote her I pictured her)
Erika - Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Charles - Kevin Kline  ( I wanted to cast Mark Ruffalo but he's not old enough..)
Jessica - Juliet Livingston
oh who's left that's right Nick...he was definitely THE hardest to cast... Justin Hartly

I had Kevin, Julie and Steph cast for the longest time, the others I figured out today.

I am still not loving my choice for Nick.  Blond actors that aren't 10 are hard to find! LOL.

I had Chris Pine cast for awhile as Nick but my friend said she couldn't see that...

I could see him as Nick but I can see Alexander Skarsgard too, because of the whole bad boy thing, lol.

I looked him up, he didn't have the "look" for me.

screw it, I'm changing Nick to Chris Pine and Charles to Mark Ruffalo (with some grey added to his hair)

Not real anyway. LOL.

and yes, Henry Cavill yummy! Is it wrong I like him with a full beard more?? LOL.

me too, I still have to finish the last season.  He's married to Katherine Parr but that's as far as I got, I need to finish just a few more episodes.  I get this way about shows that are over, I avoid watching the last ones just so I still have it to watch.  HEH!

so back to the story... lol.  I have 2 chapters of CP left to write are you girls ready for the last 4 chapters?

Is there anything you regret about this story?

Do you always intend on ending it the way you did? Even though the ending hasn't beeen posted yet.

If you could pick one of your characters to spin off into another story or sequel which one would you choose?

I don't think I regret anything that I have done with this story.  I admit that a few things got added to the story that was not originally planned *coughspeachscenecoughs* But I don't regret anything about this story.

There were two aspects of the end that have always been the same but how they got to that point was not planned until a few weeks ago.  The epilogue (the last to be posted at this point) is not the original epilogue that I had written one night that just sort of came to me.  I think I might still post that as a one shot at some point, it has a tie in to the story still.  Still gives some "missing" information.

I think anyone that lives through the first would have to go on to any sequel if one was written.   If it was a spin off, I might spin off one of the other agents, AJ or Brian and follow a story with them.

why didn't I kill Kevin? hrm... I don't know, could be that everytime I turn on my computer his twinkling eyes and sly smirk greet me. He seemed to be saying "don't kill me Lore you know you don't want to do that"  :)

He was actually never intended to die...

he was never intended to die because *gasps* Yes there was a sequel planned.  I can say that now that the first chapter has been posted. :-D  That is why I did not kill Kevin, even though he was never supposed to die.. he is after all, alive in 2045 at one point :)

Happy Saturday once again! :)

Time to finish reading Chronos Project so let's read chapters 29 to the end.

Congrats on finishing your story, Lore!!

What made you decide to write the sequel and did you always know you were going to do it?

Can you give any spoilers for your new story?

Are there any new characters in the new one?

Title: Re: FS for October: Chronos Project by PurpuraLipstick
Post by: Purpura Lipstick on October 22, 2011, 02:12:30 PM
Well I was going to do spin offs of the characters orginally, focus on their missions. When I started thinking more about it the plot for the sequel started forming so about 2/3 of the way through I decided to go ahead with the sequel. Then my muse started focusing on it and it was like pulling teeth to get the end of Chronos Project out. HEH.

Spoiler huh... lemme see...  I am not sure how much I can say without giving stuff away.  More Kevin and Julie, something Julie thought would never happen again starts all over again and Howie doesn't know why, I don't know much more I can say without giving stuff away though.

New characters:  Jessica who is mentioned and seen briefly in the first story takes more of a role on in this story, she is the co-founder of the      project; Tessa and Justin are new volunteers introduced; Kyle is a new rogue volunteer introduced

Kyle was actually supposed to be in the first story, he was originally AJ's captor but as I wrote that chapter he just didn't fit in.  He's not based on anyone in particular
